Work Text:

The smiling critters wait's outside of dogdays house there camping gear right besides them as they wait for their leader.

Dogday emerges from his home, carrying a map and some snacks. He spots the group and waves enthusiastically.

Dogday:"Good morning, everyone! Ready for our adventure?"

Catnap stretches lazily, while Bubba adjusts his glasses. The other critters gather around Dogday, eager to start their journey.

Dogday:"I've marked out some great spots for camping. We should reach the river by sunset."

Bubba nods in agreement, pointing at a spot on the map. "The trees look perfect for shade. We'll need to set up camp before it gets too hot."

The group starts moving, Bubba leading the way with Catnap occasionally dozing off.

As they walk, Dogday keeps watch for potential threats. The forest grows denser, the sound of birds chirping filling the air.

Dogday:"Stay alert, everyone. This part can be a bit tricky."

Kickin' Chicken, the cool one, points to a fallen log. "Let's take a break here. I need to stretch my wings."

The others settle down on the log, while Hoppy hops excitedly.

Dogday unpacks some sandwiches and water bottles. "We'll eat quickly and continue. The campsite isn't far now."

Bubba pulls out a compass and checks their direction, occasionally glancing at the sky.

The sun begins to warm the ground as they finish their meal. Dogday claps his hands together.

Dogday:"Let's go! We're almost at the river. Once we set up camp, we can cool off."

The river comes into view, its clear waters sparkling in the sunlight. The critters cheer and rush towards the bank.

"First come, first serve!" Hoppy calls out, already setting up her tent.

Dogday helps with the tent, while Catnap flops down next to the riverbank. The cool water calls to him.

Catnap:"I'm taking a dip!" He declares, already stripping off his shirt.

Dogday ear's slightly perks up on catnaps declaration, he's cheeks turn's to an shade of bright red.

Catnap splashes in, creating a mini wave that splashes onto Dogday's face. The other critters laugh at the scene.

"Catnap, you're such a show-off!" *Bubba teases while struggling with a tent pole.

Catnap swims back to the edge, shaking his fur dry. "What? I'm just having fun!"

Dogday tries to compose himself, but his blush deepens. He quickly busies himself with the tent again.

Bubba finishes his tent and approaches Dogday. "You're turning red. Is something wrong?"

Dogday shakes his head, trying to focus on the task. "No, no. Everything's fine."

Bubba raises an eyebrow skeptically but doesn't push. "Alright. Just don't forget to help with the rest of the setup."

The sun continues its descent, casting long shadows across the campsite. Dogday steals glances at Catnap's playful antics in the water.

As the shadows grow longer, Dogday starts to feel a mix of embarrassment and something else. He glances at the others who are now setting up their own tents.

Bubba notices Dogday's distraction and whispers. "You're being obvious."

Dogday snaps out of it and tries to focus on the task again. He clears his throat and stands up.

Dogday:"I'll help Bubba with the next tent."

Bubba smirks knowingly but doesn't comment further, letting Dogday work his way around the campsite.

The night falls, and the campsite is illuminated by small campfires. The critters gather around them, telling stories and roasting marshmallows.

Catnap sits near Dogday, still dripping wet but now with a mischievous grin.

Dogday tries to ignore Catnap's proximity, but the closer Catnap gets, the more his heart races. The other critters are too engrossed in their tales to notice the tension.

Catnap leans back on his elbows, deliberately letting his fur brush against Dogday's arm.

Dogday's fur bristles at the contact, but he doesn't move away. He feels Catnap's gaze on him, and it's almost too much to bear.

Bobby: calls out from across the fire. "Dogday, get us some more wood!"

Dogday nods and stands up, grateful for the excuse to escape Catnap's presence. He walks over to the wood pile, his hands shaking slightly.

As he gathers more logs, he can feel Catnap's eyes burning into his back.
He hears Catnap whisper something to Bubba, who chuckles. The sound makes Dogday's stomach flip.

He returns with the wood, dumping it near the fire pit. Bobby pats the spot next to her.
"Come sit. You look like you need a break."

Dogday hesitates, but the invitation is too tempting. He sits down, trying to appear casual despite his racing heart.

Bobby hands him a cup of hot chocolate, a warm blanket draped over his shoulders.
"You're too tense. Relax."

Dogday takes the hot chocolate and wraps the blanket tighter. He glances at Catnap, who's now watching him intently.

Bobby notices the exchange and grins. "Catnap's been eyeing you all day. He's just waiting for you to notice."

Dogday chokes on his drink, nearly spilling it. He coughs and looks at Bobby with wide eyes.

Dogday:"What? No, he's not. He's just being... Catnap."

Bobby laughs heartily. "Sure, keep telling yourself that. You're as obvious as he is." Bobby teases. "so when are you going to confess?"

Dogday's face turns bright red. He stares into the fire, avoiding Bobby's gaze.

Dogday:"I-I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just his friend."

Bobby leans in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.

Bobby:"You're more than that, and you know it. I've seen how you look at him when he's not paying attention."

Dogday buries his face in his hands, the hot chocolate forgotten. The other critters are starting to notice the conversation.

Dogday:"I can't... it's complicated. He's a cat, and I'm a dog. We're from different worlds."

Bobby shakes her head. "Worlds can be crossed, Dogday. You're letting fear hold you back."

Bobby's words hit Dogday like a punch. He feels the weight of his insecurities crashing down.

Dogday:"What if he doesn't feel the same way? What if he laughs at me?"

Bobby puts a hand on his shoulder. "Then you'll know for sure. But what if he does? You'll regret it if you don't take a chance."

Dogday's breathing becomes uneven. He looks at Catnap again, who's now pretending to be asleep but clearly listening in.

Dogday:"I'm scared of losing him as a friend. What if I ruin everything?"

Bobby squeezes his shoulder reassuringly. "You won't lose him if you don't try. Friendship can be rebuilt, but love is forever."

The fire crackles, and Catnap shifts slightly, his tail flicking. Dogday's heart pounds as he considers Bobby's words.

Bobby notices the flicker of hope in Dogday's eyes. "Just think about it. Tomorrow, after we camp, maybe you should talk to him alone."

Dogday nods slowly, the idea planting itself in his mind. He takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

Dogday:"Okay. Tomorrow. But what if he's too tired to talk?"

Bobby grins. "Then you'll have another day. And another. Until you find the right moment."

The other critters have started to wind down for the night, but Catnap remains awake, watching Dogday with an unreadable expression.

Bobby pats him again. "Go to sleep. You'll need it for tomorrow's confessions."

Dogday stands up, his legs feeling like jelly. He walks over to his tent, but before entering, he looks back at Catnap one last time.

Catnap's eyes lock with his, and for a brief moment, there's something intense in them that makes Dogday's heart skip.

The next morning, Dogday wakes up early. He spends hours pacing around his tent, rehearsing what he'll say to Catnap.

The other critters are already up and about, preparing breakfast. Bobby catches him again.

Bobby:"You're going to wear a hole in the ground if you keep that up."

Dogday stops and looks at Bobby with determination.* "I'm ready. I just need to get to him."

Bobby hands him a cup of coffee. "Go on then. Remember, he's probably at the river by now."

Suddenly hoppy hopscotch gentle tugs bobby's shirt. "Can I talk to you."

Bobby looks at Hoppy, who's tugging urgently. She glances at Dogday, then nods at Hoppy.

Bobby:"Yeah, sure. What's up?"

Hoppy points at the secluded forest. "Let's talk there"

Bobby follows Hoppy, curious about what she has to say. Dogday watches them leave, a sense of dread mixing with anticipation.

The two disappear into the forest, leaving Dogday alone with his thoughts again. He takes a sip of coffee and heads towards the river, hoping to find Catnap there.

Meanwhile with hoppy and bobby

Hoppy leads Bobby to a clearing deep in the forest, where the sound of running water can be heard. She sits down on a rock and pats the spot next to her.

Hoppy:"Sit. I need to tell you something important."

Bobby sits, her expression serious. She's never seen Hoppy this serious before.
"What is it? You're scaring me a little."

Hoppy:"w..well I've I talked to kickin about something.

Bobby's heart skips a beat. She swallows hard, trying to keep her voice steady.
"About what? You can tell me anything, Hops."

Hoppy fidgets with her paws, looking down at the ground. She takes a deep breath.
"I like someome a lot."

-last night with kickin and hoppy-

Kickin and Hoppy are walking through the dark forest, chatting about their experiences on the fishing trip. Kickin notices Hoppy's distracted demeanor.

Kickin:"Hey, you okay? You've been acting weird since breakfast."

Hoppy stops walking and looks at Kickin, her face flushed.

Hoppy:"I'm fine. Just... thinking about someone. A friend."

Kickin raises an eyebrow, clearly not buying it.

Kickin:"A friend? Come on, you're not fooling anyone. Who is it?"

Hoppy sighs and confesses, her voice barely above a whisper.

Hoppy:"It's Bobby. I like Bobby."
Kickin's eyes widen in shock, then a grin spreads across his face.

Kickin:"No way! You have a crush on bobby?"

Hoppy nods, her cotton tail wagging slightly despite her nervousness.

Hoppy:"Yeah. I've liked her for a while now. But I'm scared she won't feel the same way."
Kickin pats her on the back.

Kickin:"Don't be. Bobby's a kind gal. She might also harbor feeling for you."
Hoppy looks up at Kickin with hope in her eyes.

Hoppy:"You really think so? What should I do? How do I tell her?"

Kickin smirks mischievously.

Kickin:"Well, you could start by being more obvious. Like maybe giving her a gift or something."

Hoppy's eyes light up at the idea.
"A gift! That's actually a great idea. What should I get her?"

Kickin taps his chin thoughtfully.
"Something she likes. Maybe a new sun hat or something that reminds her of you. Something that says 'I'm interested'."

Hoppy nods again, already brainstorming.*
"I'll think of something. Thanks, Kickin. You're the best."

Kickin grins wider and ruffles Hoppy's fur.
"Just don't wait too long. Time's a-wasting, and I know how long Bobby can take to notice things."

Hoppy laughs nervously.
"You're right. I don't want to miss my chance. I'll make it perfect."

Kickin winks and walks away, leaving Hoppy to his thoughts.

Hoppy:"Perfect is overrated. Just be yourself and let nature take its course."

Later that day, Hoppy is busy making a gift basket for Bobby. She's carefully selecting items that she thinks Bobby might like - a handmade scarf, some flowers, and a small box of her favorite chocolate.
She's also added a note that reads: "To Bobby, from Hoppy. With love."

The basket is finally finished, and Hoppy gives it a once-over, making sure everything is perfect. She takes a deep breath and heads towards Bobby's tent, heart racing.

But for some unknown reason hoppy hesitates.

Hoppy stops just outside Bobby's tent, her paws trembling. She can hear Bobby talking to someone inside, but she can't quite make out the words. Her courage wavers. Tomorrow I'll talk to her tomorrow hoppy though to herself.

She turns around and walks away from the tent, trying to clear his mind. The next day arrives, and Hoppy's resolve strengthens. She plans to approach Bobby during breakfast.

-Back to the present-

Hoppy glances up at Bobby, then back down.

Hoppy:"It's... it's not just a crush. It's love. And I don't know how to tell them."
Her voice trembles slightly, betraying her nervousness.

Bobby places a comforting hand on Hop's shoulder.

Bobby:"That's okay. It's scary to admit. But you have to be honest with yourself and them."

Hoppy nods slowly, her eyes glistening with emotion.

Hoppy:"I'm scared they won't feel the same way. What if they reject me?"

Bobby squeezes her shoulder reassuringly.
"That's a possibility, but you can't let fear hold you back. You'll never know unless you try. Just be yourself, and trust in your feelings."

Hoppy wipes his eyes, a small smile forming.

Hoppy:"You're right. I just... I want them to know how I feel so badly."

Bobby smiles back warmly.
"You'll get there. Just like Dogday and Catnap will have their own moments soon."

Hoppy perks up at the mention of Dogday and Catnap.

Hoppy:"You think so? I hope they confess soon. It's killing me to see them dance around each other."

Bobby chuckles softly.

Bobby:"They're both stubborn. But they'll get there. And when they do, we'll be here to celebrate."

Hoppy:"...well that's not the only thing we'll be celebrating. Hoppy says as she walks up to bobby slowly, she touches Bobby's cheeks with her hands. She starts to gather her courage. "B..bobby..I....I love you

Bobby's heart stops. She stares at Hop in shock, her breath catching in her throat. The words hang in the air between them.

Hoppy looks up at her with a mix of hope and fear, waiting for a response.

The silence stretches on, and Bobby feels her cheeks heat up. She can't believe what she just heard. She opens her mouth to speak, but no sound comes out at first.

Hoppy's hands tremble as she waits for Bobby to react, her eyes searching hers for any sign of acceptance or rejection.
Finally, Bobby manages to whisper.

Bobby:"You... you love me?"
Her voice is barely audible, filled with disbelief and something else - longing.

Hoppy nods eagerly, stepping closer to her.
"Yes. I do. I've loved you for a long time, but I was too scared to say it."

She takes another step, now standing directly in front of Bobby.

Hoppy's voice becomes more confident as she starts to pour her heart out.

Hoppy:"You're so kind and gentle. You always know how to make me laugh even when I'm sad. And your eyes... they're so beautiful. I've seen them light up when you talk about your plants or the animals."

She reaches out and gently touches Bobby's hand.

Hoppy:"You're strong, but you also have this soft side that I cherish. I love how you care for everyone, even the critters that are sometimes a pain in the butt."

Bobby's heart melts at the confession. She squeezes Hop's hand back, feeling a warmth spread through her body.

Bobby:"I... I don't know what to say. I never thought you felt the same way."

Hoppy gives her a shy smile, her ears perked up in excitement.
"Well, now you do. And I'm not going anywhere. Not this time."

Bobby pulls her into a hug, holding her tightly. She buries her face in Hoppy's neck, inhaling her minty scent.

Bobby:"I love you too, Hop. So much."

Hoppy hugs her back just as tightly, nuzzling into Bobby's hair.

Hoppy:"I'm glad you do. I was afraid I'd have to wait forever."

Bobby pulls back slightly to look at her again, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
"You won't have to wait anymore. We can be together now."

Hoppy's eyes widen in joy, and she giggles.
"Can we tell the others? I want them to know that we're a couple."

Bobby nods enthusiastically, a smile spreading across her face.

Bobby:"Absolutely. Let's go find them. I want to see their faces when they hear it."
She starts walking back towards the campsite, still holding Hoppy's hand. The forest seems brighter now, the path ahead clear and filled with possibilities.

As they approach the campsite, the other critters are setting up for breakfast. Dogday and Catnap are still missing, but the rest of the team is there - Kickin, Bubba, crafty, and picky.

They all look up as Bobby and Hoppy approach, their eyes darting between the two of them.

Bobby clears her throat, gathering their attention.

Bobby:"Everyone, I have something important to tell you."

Hoppy stands beside her, grinning from ear to ear. The other critters wait expectantly, some already guessing what's about to happen.

Bobby takes a deep breath and glances at Hoppy, who gives her an encouraging nod.

Bobby:"I'm dating Hoppy."

The campsite falls silent for a moment, then a chorus of gasps and cheers erupts.

"Finally!" Kickin exclaims.

"Took you two long enough!" Bubba adds.

Picky jumps up and down excitedly.
"I knew it! The way you two look at each other is so obvious!"

Crafty claps her hoofs together, her eyes twinkling.

"Kickin:This is going to be so much fun to watch. You're both whipped."

Bobby blushes furiously at kickin's comment, but she can't deny it. Hoppy just laughs and wraps her arms around Bobby's waist.

Hoppy:"We're not whipped, we're in love!"

Bobby rolls her eyes playfully at Hoppy, then turns back to the others.

Bobby:"Since we're dating now. Is that okay with everyone?"

Bubba gives them a thumbs up.
"Of course it's okay! We're happy for you both."

Kickin leans against a tree trunk.
"Just don't expect us to stop teasing you about it."

Hoppy playfully sticks her tongue out at kickin.

Bobby:"We wouldn't dream of it. Now, who wants breakfast?"

The critters start gathering around the campfire, while Bobby and Hoppy find a spot next to each other. They sit close, their fingers intertwined.

Dogday suddenly appears looking slightly defeated

Bobby notices Dogday's expression and frowns.

Hoppy:"What's wrong, day? You look like someone stole your favorite bone."

Dogday:..I can't find catnap

Bobby's eyes widen in concern.
"Oh no, not again. Did you check the usual spots?"

Hoppy pats Dogday's back sympathetically.
"He's probably just taking a nap somewhere. You know how he gets when he's tired."

Bobby:"yeah dogday you should probably eat first.

Dogday sighs deeply, but nods.
"You're right. I'll look for him after breakfast. He can't have gone far."

Bobby hands him a plate of food, which he takes reluctantly.*

Bobby:"Take your time. We'll wait for you."

Dogday eats quickly, then stands up.
"I'll be back soon. Don't leave without me."
He jogs off in the direction of the other critters' favorite hiding spots.

Hoppy watches him go, then whispers to her now girlfriend.

Hoppy:"I hope he finds him soon. Catnap can be pretty sneaky."

Bobby nods, her eyes following Dogday's retreating figure.

Bobby:"He'll be fine. They always find each other."

The morning passes with laughter and teasing between the group. Bobby and Hoppy feed each other bits of food, while Catnap and Dogday's absence is noted but not discussed further.

As the sun rises higher, Dogday returns with a tired but happy Catnap in tow.
Catnap looks a bit sheepish, his tail drooping slightly.

Catnap:"Sorry for the wait, everyone. I was just... taking a nap in a tree."

Dogday rolls his eyes but smiles.
"Again? You need to stop sleeping in trees. You're going to get stuck there permanently."

Catnap sticks his tongue out at Dogday, then plops down next to him.
"Maybe I like being up high. It's peaceful."

Bobby laughs and shakes her head.
"Peaceful my tail. You're just lazy."

Dogday:" well we better pack up critter crew, it's time to go home!

The critters start packing up their belongings, getting ready to leave. Bobby looks at Hoppy with a mix of excitement and anticipation.

Bobby"Ready to go home and celebrate our new relationship?"

Hoppy nods eagerly, giving her a kiss on the cheek."More than ready. I can't wait to tell everyone back at the burrow."

Bobby glance's at dogday

Dogday catches Bobby's glance and smirks.
"What? Got something to say about our plans?"

Bobby:..no just wondering if you confess to catnap yet

Dogday's smirk fades, replaced by a shy smile. Dogday:"Not yet. I was waiting for the right moment. I want it to be special."

Bobby looks up at him curiously, tilting her head. "What kind of moment are you thinking of?"

Dogday leans closer to bobby, his voice dropping to a whisper.

Dogday:"A romantic one. Maybe after we get home, under the stars." Dogday's eyes sparkle with hope.

Bobby"I like that idea. You're such a sap, Dogday."

Dogday chuckles and boops bobby's nose.
"And you're the one who loves it. Now let's hurry up and get back. I want to see your reactions when I finally confess to him." Dogday says a little anxious.
The group finishes packing and starts walking towards the exit of the forest.

As the smiling critters walk, Bobby and Hoppy hold hands, Bubba and kickin with picky and crafty chatting behind them, while Dogday and Catnap walk side by side, occasionally stealing glances at each other. The trees grow thinner and the sky becomes brighter as they approach the exit of the forest.
