Work Text:
“It seems she still is drunk, huh?” asked Jax as he leaned on the counter as Zooble looked down to see Ragatha.
“From the looks of it? Yeah.” Zooble answered. They looked at her, “How much did you even drink of that stuff?”
“About… a bottle-”
“A bottle?”
“and… a half.” Ragatha answered, still drunk as shit from the Stupid Sauce that Spudsy’s had for some reason.
Pomni looked back at her fellow employees and looked at Ragatha in a worried tone, “Is she going to be alright?”
“If it’s anything like alcohol, then yeah, just give her a few hours and she will be fine.” Jax shrugged his shoulders as he looked at the clock and sighed. “God damn, when will this shift end?”
“Just give it a few minutes.” said Zooble as they walked to the grill, “Your shift ends in 9, and there are still customers here.”
“And they want more of that Stupid Sauce.” said Pomni as she placed the order on the counter.
Jax sighed as he grabbed the order and then knelt down on Ragatha’s level.
Jax, on any other day, would’ve had the time of his life seeing someone like Ragatha be the almost opposite of herself. Unorganized, done with everything, lazy, but now, after what Gangle put him through the entire day, just decided to roll with it and grab the bottle of Stupid Sauce and help Zooble with the burgers.
Jax helped Zooble with the burgers. From flipping them, to steaming them, to putting them on patties, filling them up with sauces to wrapping them. It kinda shocked them how he can help others, even when he is tired to all hell.
After what appeared to be the 5th Gloink Queen and her children, they were finally done with the orders.
Jax looked at the clock and then grinned ear to ear, “Finally! This shift is finally done!” yelled Jax.
“Calm down, it was 5 minutes when you actually tried to help.” said Zooble as Jax placed a finger on their ‘mouth’.
“Shut it, Zoobie, I can finally leave this boring as sin of a restaurant while you guys keep working,” Jax started walking towards the board where his papers were, but was stopped by Zooble.
“Not so fast, Bunny Boy.” said Zooble as Jax turned around.
“Oh what now?! Do I have to clean the mountains of dishes again?” Jax yelled at them.
“Nope. You,” Zooble then pointed at the still drunken Ragatha, “have to drive Ragatha back to the circus.” Jax gawked at them, “Don’t give me that look, you know no one is supposed to drive drunk. They need a designated driver.”
“Well, why are you asking me to do it? I didn’t give her the sauce, she herself did!” Pomni raised a brow at that, “If I did, then I would’ve gloated at that.”
“Touche.” said Pomni while taking her order.
“Well, you’re the first to leave and quite frankly, she is a bit of a liability at the moment when she can’t help.” explained Zooble.
“I very… well can be useful.” Ragatha raised her hand.
“You can’t even stand up.” said Zooble.
“I can! W… Watch!” Then Jax and Zooble had to see through what might as well be the hardest thing a person can watch, as it took her a solid minute to even stand up straight, which she had to grab onto a counter to even stand up. She then fell down a second later.
“Point proven.” said Zooble.
Jax looked at her and then back to Zooble. He groaned, “Fine, as long as I can leave here. Tell Gangle we’re leaving.”
“Will do.” said Zooble.
Jax walked towards Ragatha, smirking seeing her down like that, knelt towards her, “Rise and shine, dollface. Cause, we’re leaving.”
“Awww, really? But I was doing sooooo well.” Ragatha moaned as Jax rolled his eyes.
“Sure you were.” said Jax as he picked her up and wrapped her arms around his neck as they walked towards the registry, which he had to make sure to place the paper to the other side.
After that, they went outside of Spudsy’s and then to its parking area.
Jax slowly walked to his own car, trying his best not to react with Ragatha leaning her head on his shoulders.
He grumbled under his breath as he opened the passenger door and then threw her to the passenger seat.
Ragatha giggled as her head moved in a circle-like way, “Oh, don’t be so rough~”
“Oh shut it, be grateful I am helping you out.” said Jax as he then got into the car and then started the car.
Once he started driving the car, he drove off, with Ragatha trying her best to sleep.
Then, the whole world changed into an office with Caine being the executive manager with a bulletin board of how well they’ve performed. Jax groaned as Ragatha, somehow still under the influence of the Stupid Sauce, dropped herself down.
Jax picked her up again as Caine began to list everything that the two of them did, with Jax surprisingly getting a B+ while Ragatha got a B-, mainly due to how she was drunk under the influence.
After that, they had to wait for others to come back from their own shifts, which was incredibly boring for Jax.
That didn’t help with the fact that Ragatha was petting his digital fur, “Stop that.” Jax pushed her hand away, but then another hand went up to his arm, “Oh come on. Are you going to do this until the others arrive?” asked Jax which was given a response of the drunk Ragatha giggling.
“Maybe~.” she said.
Jax grumbled, “Stupid Stupid Sauce.”
After waiting for Zooble (who was still shocked that she was still drunk), Gangle (who seemed to ditch her plastic mask) and Pomni, they were finally able to leave.
To which Jax had to still hold Ragatha for.
“Finally, I get to rest from that boring place,” said Jax, ignoring Caine and his antics and pushing away Kinger, “I’m walking dollface to her room and then I’m going to bed. Night.”
Pomni glanced at Zooble and Gangle and then back to them, waving them goodbye.
Jax returned the gesture and walked away.
During the walk, Jax had to endure what most people had to endure when they were carrying someone who was drunk.
Mostly incomprehensible sentences or mumbling.
Unable to move straight no matter how much you try.
Mostly dizziness.
Trying their best to avoid their potential puke.
Or even them trying to annoy you, no matter how much they try you.
And Jax, for the first time in… forever, felt as though he was what Ragatha felt during their time here at the circus.
Annoying the shit out of him to get a reaction, sentences that will annoy him to no end, actions that would’ve caused a reaction, but he tried to keep it cool.
It was the first time that Jax was the responsible one in this weird relationship he had with the others.
It was weird, but not in a way that he didn’t hate it.
Or, that’s at least what he thought.
It did take them a few minutes to get to the halls, as their rooms were incredibly close to each other.
“There, now we are finally done with this and I can sleep.” said Jax as he then felt a hand on his cheek.
“Jaxxxxx.:..” the rabbit closes his eyes as he know has to deal another drunk tendencies, “can I ask you a question?” asked Ragatha.
Jax sighed, “Yeah sure, go ahead. What’s up?”
Then Jax heard her mumble.
“Huh?”
Then Ragatha repeated herself, but a bit louder.
“Speak louder, I can’t hear you!”
Ragatha was quiet, even in this state.
Then she asked him.
“Do you hate me?”
That was what got his reaction the most out of anything that she has done throughout the entire night.
That single sentence was what got to him since it was something that he never expected from her to ask.
“Huh?” was all that he could say at that.
“I just… I,” Ragatha tried to find the right words that she could to describe what she was feeling, but couldn’t really find them.
“Rags… Is everything okay?” asked Jax, out of actual concern.
“It’s just that I don’t want people to hate me, is that selfish of me to ask?” asked Ragatha, her grip on Jax’s neck getting stronger, “Today, I made so many people mad at me, but I don’t want them to… oh my gosh. What I told to Gangle- it was so- insensitive of me to say- I’m-”
Jax sighed as he cut her off “Look,” as Ragatha, trying to look at Jax as he said that, “You don’t have to worry about that type of stuff. I get what you’re feeling, but you shouldn’t start believing stuff like that. Heck, I don’t even think anyone here really hates you here.”
“But- but-”
“It was just one day. Relax, it’s not like you’re like me when you do that every day. They’re sure to forgive sooner than later.” said Jax as Ragatha softened her grip, “You’re not like me, you’re the opposite, so relax for a moment.”
“Do you believe so?” Ragatha asked.
Jax shrugged, “Probably. But hey, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t hate you.”
“You- You don’t?” asked Ragatha, almost as if she couldn’t believe it.
“Nah. I mess with you only because it’s fun, nothing personal.” Jax smirked, “So don’t take it negatively. You’re fine as it is, and I don’t hate you. At all.”
“You…” Ragatha got off of him and looked at him in the eye, “Really mean it?”
“Of course I do.” Jax took a step backwards to push her, “So come on, go to bed and sleep with at least something positive in your mind.”
Ragatha smiled, wiping away her upcoming tear. “Right. I will!”
She then took a step-
And fell down.
Jax then walked over and flipped her over. He furrowed his brows.
She was still drunk under the influence.
“AGAIN?! What the [%&!#] is in this Stupid Sauce?!” Jax yelled as he then groaned. He never once hated something as much as the Stupid Sauce that apparently made someone be every form of drunk imaginable.
“Come here, dollface, I’ll carry you.” said Jax as he then carried her by his shoulder to her room.
He opened the door and then carried her to her room.
He then placed her onto the bed and turned around.
And then he was grabbed by his arm.
“Nooooooooo…. stay….” Ragatha moaned as Jax closed his eyes and then looked at her.
“You don’t want me to leave?” Jax asked, tiredsly.
All Ragatha could do was nod.
Jax, knowing that it probably won’t be the best idea to not at least listen to her, sighed, “Fine, but only if you let me close the door. I’m way too tired to argue at this point.”
Ragatha, reluctant, let go of him.
Jax then walked to the door, closed the door and then locked it so that no one could get in and take an embarrassing photo. Jax then walked back towards Ragatha and her bed. “Scoot over.”
Ragatha rolled to the side as Jax laid beside her, however, once he tried to roll over, Ragatha grabbed him by the waist.
Jax smirked a bit, “Not letting me leave, huh?” he asked as all he was answered with was her sleeping.
Jax then closed his eyes.
“Good night, Jax.” was the last thing that Ragatha said before going back to bed.
Jax then smirked.
“Good night, Rags.”
A genuine smirk.
