Work Text:

Not my Jedi, but family

They had been on a play date. The three best friends; Fox, Rex and Wolffe.

They were best buds to the core. Them all having fun together when their Jedi protectors where having a meeting on Coruscant, coming over from Kamino to visit.

Fox, living on Coruscant with his group of brothers however did not have a Jedi protector. Not per se unless the Jedi Council was counted as they were close by.

But both Rex and Wolffe had their own big brother type Jedi’s to watch over them while they were learning stuff and things and still growing.

Fox, did not.

Fox, sometimes feeling left out. Perhaps a tad jealous too of all the affection and attention the other two were getting from these so called big bros of theirs.

True, Fox had his own crew around him. The Corries, as they were all called.

But it wasn’t the same. They were mostly the same age after all and so, Fox really felt left out, sometimes.

“Oh hey, Ani is here. I’ve gotta go.” Rex sounded happy enough even if it meant the play date was over. “He’s got a treat for me.” Rex whispered eagerly as the Jedi usually having something for Rex when the pickup was upon.

“Bye!” Rex waved already half running towards his precious Skywalker.

And if that hadn’t been enough, Plo Koon was there for Wolffe as well. The second kid eager too to leave with his older brother of a Jedi!

“Plo promised to help me paint a proper wolf on my helmet!” Wolffe seemed so happy and chipper and eager for this rather than saying goodbye to his friend.

Yeah they were spoiled like that for sure! At least in Fox’s mind they were. As nobody was giving him treats or helping him paint or… well, there was no big brother around for Fox to lay his trust in.

Wolffe too waved his goodbye while running to his Jedi. Leaving a very sad and sniffing Fox behind. The poor kid ready to cry at any moment.

So much for having best friends! Them only too eager to run off as soon as someone better came along. Fox was certainly feeling neglected and discarded like… well… trash by his so called friends.

Just as Fox was about to slump down and have an ugly cry, he heard it right behind him.

The rustling of small feet running towards him.

“Fox!”

“Hey Foxy!!!”

“Fox look!”

“We made these!”

“For you, Foxy!”

His posse, his Corries were coming to him. The lot of them holding something in their hands.

“What’s going on, boys?”

Fox tried to act all cool and calm, wiping away the starting tears before they could happen.

“These!”

“Yeah we made ya these!”

“Cause yer the best!”

“Best big bro ever!”

“Our bro!”

The lot of them were soon enough crowding Fox, holding up what looked like colourful paintings in their hands.

“For me?”

“Of course.”

“Always.”

Fox looked at the various paintings of him and his crew. The names scribbled on top of each character drawn indicating whom each person was.

Fox suddenly choked, having realised something.

He, was the big brother for these kid troopers. They all looked up to him just like Rex and Wolffe did to their Jedi.

At that moment Fox jumped and started hugging his brothers. Fox could not have felt more loved and appreciated like he was at the very moment.

“I love them, all of them!”

Fox held onto his brothers for a long while.

Fox realising he really wasn’t alone or in need of someone else either. True, that he loved his two best friends. But Fox too, had a close family and that was all he ever needed. Of course his other friends too, but these were his, family. The Corries. The lot of them sticking together through thick and thin, always.
