Ramb Request Book

Summary:

Exactly what the title says. Just read the first chapter for more information...

Requests; open.

Kudos and comments help me write.

Thank you for reading.

Chapter 1: Request Page

Chapter Text

The title should say everything, this is a Ramb and reader centered request book! But I would like to state some important things before anyone tries to request...

1) Though this is a Ramb centric collection, of course there's going to be other characters (including OCs) mostly in the background, though some will be featured as prominent side characters. But I won't include anyone's OCs but my own unless you give me information about+permission to use one of yours (just don't get mad if I don't write them as well as you, okay? Okay :3).

2) Since this is a Ramb centric collection, I would rather not have any other ships with Ramb and you (example; Ramb/you/Tenna), but I can feature other ships that appear in the background (example; Battat/Jongler/Pluey).

3) Most of the time, if not specified, I'll just use a Pippins for the reader's species. You can always say which species (either canon or fan-made, just give me details for fan-made ones) you want to be however :). Also if no gender is specified, I'll just make the reader gender-neutral.

4) You can be as detailed or as vague as you want with your requests, but I do tend to prefer vaguer ones so I have more freedom with the writing.

5) I only write one-shots, I don't tend to do multiple chapters on one topic unless I really want to see a sequel to something (or enjoy a request for a sequel enough).

6) Every title will be its own title I give (or you can come up with it if you want) while the content featured (warnings and etc) will be said in the summary of the chapter.

7) Of course, like any other request book, I can accept and deny any requests I want.

8) Both guests and registered users can comment :).

Ok, now for some stuff I do and don't do...

I can write:

- For gender-neutral, non-binary and male readers.

- Romantic, platonic or familial imagines.

- Headcanons.

- SFW, but suggestive elements can be done.

- Fluff, angst and comfort.

- AUs (but please give me a little information if you can, I'm not familiar with most).

---

I can't write:

- Anything pro-ship (examples; familial mixed with romantic, abuse towards Ramb from yourself or vice versa, etc).

- Female readers (Ramb loves all of you though, never forget that).

- NSFW (I changed my mind, apologies).

Request away! :)

Chapter 2: The Easter Special

Summary:

Gender neutral Pippins reader/Ramb, romantic.

Ramb gets a bunny suit to celebrate the holidays.

Warnings:
- Alcohol (you drink, you don’t get drunk. Others drink, mentioned they’re drunk lightly).
- Suggestive (but only implied).

Chapter Text

Holidays were your favorite times to work. Everybody always seemed a little more happy and capable when they knew their regular routines were about to be upset by new things springing up; decorations to be put up, special costumes to be made, new meals to be made, those types of tasks. At the end of the day it was still work, but it felt more special. Personalized even.

Right now it was about a week away from Easter but Tenna’s world was already almost ready for the event. Everywhere besides the Green Room, which you currently were helping to decorate with a few of the Shadowmen, was fully decorated. Bundles of paper grass and flowers on the walls, eggs hidden all around with small prizes for the employees to find, painted walls (that thankfully were able to be washed out) of eggs, bunnies and sunny days… It was a nice change of pace to the usual look of everything.

But after you put away the last of the hidden eggs, you let the menial other tasks be left to the shadowmen who were about to finish up everything else, pulling out one of the basket shaped stools at Ramb’s stand and sitting on it so you could be eye to eye with the man himself now.

“It’s quite festive in here now luv, innit?” He asked you. You gave a nod, your closed eye opening to show him you were fully paying attention to him now.

“It all looks so nice, thank you and your blokes,” He then told you. You gave him a little thumbs up before he started to concoct one of his holiday specials, saying, “How many eggs have you found, luv? Just curious.”

You pondered for a second. You honestly placed down at least half of those eggs, so you couldn’t pick those up without feeling a bit of guilt… Though, the ones with the dark dollars you did brush away the feeling for, but you don’t want to know what that says about you at the moment. Anyways, the rest were almost impossible to find for yourself. Whoever else was hiding them was not going easy like you had been, really you had only found two so you put up two of your digits.

“Only two? Well that’s okay, at least you still have something to show off. And there’s plenty’a time for more,” He told you while he poured the drink into a glass for you to take up and take a sip, him waiting patiently for your reaction.

It was a strange taste, you could tell it was supposed to be similar to what the lightners called wine with its ruby color but the only thing you could taste was the feeling of a tiny electrical spark, raising the non-existent hairs on your neck as it slid down your mouth, causing shocks the entire time it traveled before it hit wherever your stomach was supposed to be, your eyes widening a bit from the sudden energy you got from it, your body tensing up a bit with the sudden energy burst as well. You blinked before you shook your head a bit, looking at Ramb questioningly as he chuckled softly at your reaction.

“Energizing, innit? Just like a rabbit, always hopping about. I call it the Easter Special.”

You’ve started to notice he’s not the best at naming his drinks, but you didn’t mind it, so you put up about five of your digits regardless. “A five outta five? You’re too generous, luv,” A small blush appeared on his face. Even though every time that you rated his drinks your reviews were high, he still took your words to heart. Cute.

You took another sip of the Easter Special, a buzz running through you as you looked around the rest of the room. You know around the holidays more people came up to Ramb’s booth which was nice, he always loved to actually have something to do, but your eyes caught onto a bunny on the wall a Shadowguy was painting for fun, an idea sparking in your head with some help from that special drink you were sipping on.

You turned back around, putting your glass down before you raised two of your digits (one on each hand) up, the others down as you put your hands on the top of your head to give yourself bunny ears. Ramb looked at where you were looking before, seeing the painting in progress, before looking back at you, “The rabbit? Quite cute, innit?”

You nodded, but it wasn’t what you meant. Your hands went down before they went to your chest, where you pointed directly at your suit with both. “Your suit? It makes you look extra nice, luv.”

You sighed, you appreciated the compliment but again, not what you meant. You then quickly did the bunny ears before pointing to your suit. “Rabbit… Suit?” He put the two words together without much thought before realizing what you were saying… Except not really at all. “What about it?”

You then pointed to him, your digit hitting the middle of his chest softly. “... Are you saying I should wear one?”

You closed your eyes with a smile, nodding as your hands clapped together. He finally got it! “Can I ask why, luv?” You picked back up your Easter Special once your eyes were open again, taking another sip before you pointed to it with the hand not holding it up before you rubbed your digits together with the same hand (to show you were rubbing your money of course). Ramb chuckled at the gesture, “Luv, you know I don’t make a profit off these, don’t you?”

And of course you knew, but it seems he sort of got your message. You gave a nod regardless, but kept the gesture up, staring at him with a determined glint in your eyes and smirk now. “... Well, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try, luv,” He gave a shrug.

Both your hands suddenly went in the air from your joy, a habit that was instinctual to you, but your Easter Special followed them, some of it spilling directly on the top of your head. Your hands went down quickly as you put your glass down, trying to wipe off the liquid with your bare hands before you felt a rag where your hands were, removing them as you watched Ramb wipe you off gently.

You coughed out a thank you when he was done, him chuckling at the slight blush that had developed on your face. “Don’t think too much of it. I’ll see what I can do about the suit though, luv.”

If you were a darkner with a tail, it’d sure be wagging right now, but instead your blush grew a bit deeper from excitement. You could not wait for the sight, because even if other people would see him in such a thing, you knew exactly who he was dressing for (and their name started with you).

It’s been about two work days since you suggested that outfit idea and Ramb still hadn’t put it on. You didn’t mind that much, at the end of the day it was just a suggestion and he still had plenty of people now who were grabbing drinks and chats from him, but you couldn’t help feeling the slightest twinge of disappointment regardless.

Right now was not the time to reflect on that however as you finished up your ironing of the last of Tenna’s suits (you forgot at this point how many you had done, but you wouldn’t be surprised if it had been the hundredth one), sighing as you hung it up neatly before you put away your ironing supplies.

You twisted your head from side to side with your hands before you stretched, both hands raising in the air as you let your back arch. You definitely needed your break now, taking your leave. As you made your way to the Green Room, the ideal break room (the best even), you saw some of your friends still working, giving them waves and smiles on your walk. Some returned the gesture, but others were so focused on their tasks you honestly felt a bit bad… But nothing you could do so you were still on your merry little way.

Eventually you made it there, opening the doors just to see a small crowd had formed around Ramb’s stand. You expected only a few more customers than usual, but this definitely blew your expectations out of the water. Did Ramb put on the suit and did it really look that good to attract so many people? Then you heard the laughs coming from the crowd and knew you had to see what they were laughing about, immediately walking over to join them.

You couldn’t yet see Ramb, the taller darkners were in your way right now, but you could see everybody had a smile on their face, seemed a little tipsy, and they all were having a good time seeing the blushes on their faces. You felt a little out of place so you put a smile onto your own face, trying to laugh and giggle when everybody else did.

For a moment you didn’t even hear Ramb speaking, rather only others making conversation, but the first thing you did hear out of his mouth was, “You might not carrot all, but I think you blokes are mighty fun!”

A pun. He didn’t make those a lot, and this one wasn’t particularly that funny, but everybody had chuckled at it so you followed with them. Though you suppose it was also to humor Ramb instead of only blending in with them. Regardless, finally one of the Zappers had moved, allowing you space where you could actually see Ramb in the stand, and…

Oh my God. He took your suggestion the wrong way.

You’re trying not to snicker at his costume, but it’s just so stupid, your hand having to cover your mouth. A pink bunny onesie is what he’s wearing, complete with paws that covered his hands (though he was still masterfully handling the drinks even with the costume); really the only thing that was visible was his face but he looked much happier than usual you noticed. Though the whole thing was still silly, everybody seemed to be enjoying it, including you… So maybe this suit was okay too.

You stayed in the crowd for the entirety that everybody else was there, blending in the background. But after enough time, some started to leave. More and more left the more time passed until maybe two hours later it was just you and him. You sat in one of the two empty stools, Ramb looking at you like he’s had the most fun he’s ever had in his life and you just missed it (though you really hadn’t).

“Luv, your idea was a hit! I haven’t served this much in so long. Really, thank you. I don’t know how to make it up to you.”

You waved your hand dismissively, you didn’t need a thank you, it was just enough to see him happy and dressed so cutely. And he could tell you didn’t need anything more with the wide smile and blush on your face, but he still caught your hand to put it on his cheek, the soft cotton of the suit feeling nicer than you expected (warmer too).

“Do you like it?” He asked upfront. Your blush developed deeper as your head started rolling backwards, picking up speed as it continued to do so, a special kind of nod. Ramb laughed at your reaction, using his other hand to grab onto the edge of your head to stop it from spinning. You noticed his own blush now however as he asked, “Should I wear it more?”

You gave an enthusiastic shake of your head. Yes he looked adorable, but this kind of outfit was definitely for special occasions. He chuckled, “Alright, luv. Whatever you say. But, maybe I should have more like it?”

You gave a much simpler nod to that and he looked satisfied with your answer. “Got it,” Then he leaned in, giving you a kiss on your cheek, “Thanks for the advice, luv.”

You swear steam was rising from you from how hot you felt, giddiness flowing through you.

Though, maybe next time, you should choose the outfit yourself… Just to note for the future.

Chapter 3: Hello’s And Goodbye’s Are For Cowards

Summary:

Male Plugboy reader & Ramb, platonic.

A certain alleyway sparks memories in you about your old friend, Ramb.

Warnings:
- Hurt with only bittersweet comfort.
- Mostly headcanon territory here with pre-canon Ramb in the Cyber World.

Chapter Text

It’s been so long since you got to have an actual day off. Though you didn’t even do much in the first place, your limited help around Cyber City was still necessary and took up your days. So you were surprised when another Plugboy had to tell you somebody else was in your place for the day and that you had to come back tomorrow.

Of course you could’ve tried to find something else to do to help out or tried to get your job back from that mysterious person, but honestly you hadn’t had time off in so long that you welcomed the change in pace. The only problem was since it had been so long, you didn’t remember how to spend your free time.

So now you were out in the main shopping area, where most the Addisons sold their wares, just wandering around aimlessly, no real destination in mind. You were just seeing what new tricks these guys had since the last time you saw them, and honestly some almost got you to buy useless crap you’d never use, but thankfully you were low on money and that cut you out of any trances.

But when you passed by the lone store of a pink Addison, one trying to sell you Dating Shoes despite the fact that you were alone might you add, you saw a familiar detour into a dead-end. A spark ran through your brain as you tried to remember what was so important before you decided to walk towards it, into it even, to find out what could possibly be there since your brain was desperately trying to dig it back up.

And when you found that dead-end, you saw that same floppy disk shaped door you knew was there along with the same hallway to its right, but you noticed there was a person standing there, someone you had never met. Then you realized exactly why your brain had dragged you all the way here…

This was where your friend, Ramb, had lived all those years ago.

How long has it even been now? You can’t even recall the amount of years, but you can recall that he used to run his own little popup where the stranger stood right by the room he owned (which now seemed to also be owned by another stranger, one who wanted ways to deal with crushing, existential dread). Of course, he hadn’t been selling anything the Addisons were, otherwise he’d be running into too many problems for one Plugboy to handle, rather he was selling things they couldn’t dream of handling (mostly rare drinks and weapons however).

You remember how you met him. You had gotten lost in the area (it was one of your first times leaving the area where you worked without anybody to guide you) and somehow had made your way down the alley, finding somebody who actually looked like you except… Not. It probably should’ve scared you away, the fact that he looked different. With his floppy ears, the stubble, the lavender hair… But, honestly, you were too relieved by the fact that you could tell he was a Plugboy to care about that.

That day you also didn’t have much money to your name, despite how much you worked (you liked to save as much as you could), but you approached his stand anyways and the first words you heard from his mouth immediately calmed all of your nerves, “Oi luv, haven’t seen one of you blokes in a hot minute. What can I get you?”

You were certain you had never seen him in your life before, but the way he talked made it seem like you were lifetime friends and you honestly didn’t mind. Though, you knew you probably looked still a little lost, maybe even just curious, so he decided to step in when he noticed you hadn’t said a word for a few moments, “Or do you want to know what’s for the taking?”

You gave him a quick nod and he nodded in return to show you he understood, before he pointed towards a rack of swords hanging up behind himself to his right, “I’ve collected quite a bit of neat gadgets over the years. Swords, shields, armor, things of those categories. Interesting what you find just lying around, innit?”

You gave him a nod as your eyes were now caught by the sudden glimmer of one of the swords, one that looked shorter than the rest and seemed to be made out of some kind of brown metal-like material (both the blade and the handle). But your attention was then caught by him grabbing something beyond where you could see, somewhere right in front of where he stood, and putting it on the table with a light slam and the sounds of glasses bouncing off each other.

That something turned out to be a box of bottles, all of which had liquids inside them, of various colors and amounts. “Every good bloke likes a drink, so I have some from my trades. They all have different effects, so just ask if you wanna know, alright luv? You can also ask to whip up some special mixes for an additional fee,” He gave a wink with that last sentence.

Another nod from you to show your understanding. He then pulled out a sack, a small brown one that had patches sewn into it, next to the drinks. “And if you have something you don’t need, I can take it off your hands.”

You certainly had nothing on you to sell, unfortunately, nor did you need any kind of fighting gear, so instead you looked at the drinks. Your hand hovered over them before you grabbed a random one which held a dark brown liquid that was filling the bottle almost all the way. “That one’s not too special I can’t lie, luv. Just a different tasting tea than what you can get in the city. Supposed to clear the mind but I didn’t ever sip from it.”

You put it back. Though that was interesting, you weren’t really in the mood for tea that day. You chose another random one, this one had some bright yellow liquid in it (which was slightly glowing you noticed) that filled the bottle only halfway. “Caution juice! Gets the mind racing to make sure you don’t slip up… At least that’s what the chum who gave it to me said.”

Another one you didn’t really need and was placed back. The next one you grabbed was a pink liquid, filling the bottle only slightly. “That drink is extra special, luv. It can cure any negativity and make you feel free. Like alcohol except stronger and with zero consequences.” Now that description… That one definitely caught your interest.

You placed it right by the small sack he had placed down, telling him this was what you wanted to buy from him today. “Is that all, luv?” You gave him a little nod and his eyes closed as he told you, “Only a hundred dark dollars.” You felt that was a steal, and it seemed that thought was written on your face since he chuckled when he opened his eyes, explaining to you, “Since you gave a visit, I decided a discount was only fair for a bloke of mine.”

And you would take that discount, handing over only one hundred dark dollars before you took up the bottle, putting it somewhere safe. “Thanks for the business, luv,” He thanked you as you walked away, the nice interaction calming your nerves to help you navigate your way back to your own part of the city without any outside help (a miracle really).

Ever since that day, whenever you had a chance, you would visit him. You don’t know when you called yourself friends even, it just happened one day and you both rolled with it. It was so refreshing whenever you got to chat with him, even if he tended to be the one doing the talking most of the time, no other Plugboy was quite like him (including yourself). Really, nobody in that entire city was like him…

Though, now you’re also remembering that day as well… But before you could remember the finer details, you noticed the stranger staring at you, wondering what you were doing there just standing, doing nothing but staring next to them. You snapped out of your thoughts and quickly walked the other way, not even explaining yourself. You now kept on your way, walking past some of the backstreets, before you now found yourself in front of another pink Addison’s store.

You remembered this one sold special teas, ones that didn’t cost as much as you thought they should, so you walked up, the Addison telling you, “This is the hottest tea shop! HOT, HOT, HOT! Fifty percent off! (You noted however that they always said that…) For a hundred dark dollars, choose your own flavor!” And honestly, after all of your walking, a drink didn’t sound too bad.

You pulled out your money to show the pink Addison you were interested, and they said in response, “Ok, choose your own flavor!” You could’ve just said your own flavor, but then you began to ponder… You told the Addison you wanted the Ramb Tea.

The Addison for once looked confused, even with the smile still plastered on their face, before they told you, “Ramb? Whose that? Never heard of that person!” But you pushed anyways that you wanted the Ramb Tea, starting to put away your money. That caused the Addison to panic a bit, wiping the confusion off their face as they said, “Okay, okay! Here you go!!! One Ramb Tea!”

And you were handed a brown tea in a coffee cup, handing the money over to the Addison in exchange. They seemed pleased enough as you walked away, but not too far away, only to the area directly south of their shop, resting by the red chest that sat there.

You looked at the tea in the cup. Nothing seemed abnormal about it, no weird chunks floating around or weird bubbles or any other strange features, it was just… Tea. So you smelled it and found there was nothing to smell too. You were honestly starting to believe you had been scammed, that Addison did seem a bit too desperate to sell it, but you gave it a sip anyway.

You sighed afterwards, realizing it tasted like lavender, specifically the exact shade he had been. That Addison must’ve been lying, they were all prone to doing that, because it was as extraordinarily warm as he had been too, burning your mouth and throat but honestly you didn’t care because it reminded you of him.

You took another sip as you remembered that special day. It had been so long since you had gotten a day off back then too, a proper one without any friends to force you to do things with them, and had wandered to where Ramb was situated. Except, when you had gotten there, his stand was nowhere to be seen. Instead, on the wall directly behind where it used to occupy, there was a note.

‘Ramb’s Stand has been moved. Sorry chums, but this ol’ plug needed a change of space. Thanks for understanding. Best of luck. -Ramb’

You could only stand there in a bit of shock before you realized you were now feeling… Despair. You almost never felt this way, but you didn’t even get to give him a proper goodbye. And he didn’t even say where he had moved, just that he was gone without any warning. You were supposed to be best friends, how could he do this to you?

You were heart broken, even a bit betrayed. You knew him, he was kind, he hadn’t done this to hurt you but you just couldn’t shake off the hurt you had felt. If he had just told you goodbye, you wouldn’t have minded that he was leaving because you would’ve gotten to say hello again. But he was gone. And no matter who you shaked down and screamed at, you couldn’t get a clear answer about where he had gone to.

Well, that was until you finally talked to that damn pink Addison trying to sell you Single Shoes, ignoring their deal to yell at them about what they knew about Ramb. Of course, at first they had found you rude, not wanting to talk about anything but their sale. But when you threatened to destroy their little store, they caved in, telling you they didn’t know much about that “overrated shop keeper” (their words, not yours) but had overheard something about a TV’s world and that was all they knew, they swore.

Really, it didn’t help you much, but it was the best answer you had gotten from anybody so far so you apologized and left them alone, finding a solitude place far away that you could sit down in, just wallowing in your sadness for the rest of that day before you had to return.

You won’t lie, it had taken you longer than you expected to forgive him. If anything, you still had slight cracks in your heart that could only be healed by him. But the tea was the closest you had to that, so you kept drinking it instead, feeling slightly better about getting to at least feel his presence again (even if it was just from a drink).

And when you finished the Ramb Tea, you thought that maybe the next time you got a day off, you’d go find that TV World, wherever it was, hoping Ramb would still be there so you could finally get that goodbye from that “ol’ plug.”

Chapter 4: The Timid Yet Reliable Dragon

Summary:

Gender neutral dragon reader & Ramb, platonic. (Though can be romantic if you choose to see it that way.)

A dragon plush is bought for the Dreemur children, forcing them to settle into their new home, the TV World.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Everybody in this world was avoiding you. You could see in your peripheral vision they were all looking at you, but never at your face, rather they always looked down as if to be respectful. They didn’t look too excited to see you either, rather they all looked at least a little spooked when you walked past them.

Honestly, it was upsetting you on the inside but it definitely wasn’t showing on your face. You walked with grace despite how much you didn’t like being this center of attention. You had to keep your composure after all, you were new here and had to make a good first impression on the boss to show you were capable for any tasks he was going to put you up to.

You wondered what exactly you’d be doing actually… It’s not like you chose to be taken from that little shop world just to suddenly wake up in this TV land without any of your friends. You were only told you were a new employee of this Mr. Tenna that ran this world and you had to find his office without any help since nobody wanted to approach you.

It’s not their fault however, you looked edgier than you were. Your face was hidden in shadows, your wings huddled around your chest to look like a cape, fur on the top of your head shaped like a crown with your two sharp ears pointing upwards, not to mention the sharp teeth hanging out of your mouth and the other spikes lining your feet and tail that flopped lazily behind yourself. You just didn’t look friendly at all (though that was quite the opposite to how you acted).

But you were smart, you could find your way around this new layout. At least, that’s what you thought until you had wandered in a large circle, finding the same rooms you had been in before. You got slightly frustrated, your snout slightly wrinkling from that as you tried a door you swore wasn’t one you had gone through before because if it was, you were about to lose your cool a bit.

Thankfully, you were right because now you were in a larger room that wasn’t red but rather green. You saw some cloud woman and moon man (that’s what they looked like at least) on the cough to the right, two of the dice looking things on the other couch, as well as some tall blue thing standing right by the door you had just come through, all of them staring at you for a few moments before they turned back to whatever it was they were doing beforehand like you didn’t even exist.

It was nice to not be stared at at least. You made your way a bit further inside to see there was a stand in the middle, a lavender little thing running it, minding his own business as he was shaking something up (presumably a drink with all of those bottles next to his side). He seemed like he might know something though, kind of like an information stall, so you strolled up to his counter.

He looked up at you (since you towered over him) with a friendly smile, no amount of fear on his face as he asked you, “You must be a new chap around here. You can call me Ramb. What can I do for you?”

It was honestly a bit refreshing to just be treated like a person and be talked to. You let out a little sigh as your nose straightened back out. You told him exactly what you wanted to know; where Mr. Tenna’s office is. “Ah, yes, Tenna’s place. Should be in the stage hallway, past the game rooms. You’ll see what I mean. Anything else I can do?”

You had gotten what you wanted, but honestly you didn’t know if you could yet handle the possible gawk of your new boss, so your eyes wandered to the drink he was seemingly making. “Want to try?” He shook it slightly as if to entice you further.

Well, perhaps it worked because you gave a curt nod. He grabbed you a glass, pouring some of the drink in before he handed it over to you. One of your wings extended from its position around your torso, grabbing hold of the glass, a bit of your heart shaped chest exposing (which Ramb did secretly take a sneaky peak at) as you looked at the liquid you had just been presented with. It was clear yet seemed to chill the glass it was in with the condensation it was creating.

Amusing. You took a sip through your tongue sticking out of your mouth to lap up the drink, and it definitely felt quite chilled, giving a slight cold burn to your tongue, but it also tasted as refreshing as a mint does. Definitely helped your always warm throat be soothed, so you tilted your head back, mouth opening wide so you could pour the drink down it before you swallowed, licking your lips as your head was staring back at Ramb and you were handing the glass back.

He saw your breath had chilled, mist coming out of your nostrils, and his smile slightly widened as he began to wipe the glass clean, “Quite the refreshment, innit?”

You told him what it reminded you of out of agreement, starting to ramble on a bit about the cold days you used to experience, the snow falling on your snout, the fires you created to warm your friends up since they couldn’t handle the cold like you could, the wind whipping on your form. And he listened to all of it, not minding how long you went on and really taking in every word you said to him.

At some point however, right as you were finishing up, the doors to your left were slammed open, a man with a TV head larger than even you was standing there, a large smile plastered on his electronic face. “Ah, there you are new employee! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

He then came sprinting up to you, and before you could even turn to him, he grabbed onto your wing which had just been holding your drink, turning your body towards him as he leaned down and examined your wing with an ‘ooo.’ “We’ve never had a doll like you here before! Well, except me of course,” He had the hand not grabbing your wing to the side of his mouth, like he was talking to somebody secretly except everybody in the room could hear him.

He then stood upright again as he shook your wing in a handshake, looking you up and down in excitement, “I have about a gazillion ideas for you to approve! Since you’re an expert in these dragon things, aren’t you? Of course you are, just look at how you’re dressed! It’s like you’re straight out of that game Kris and Asriel like!”

All of this was… Very confusing, you couldn’t lie. You just looked at him, mouth slightly agape from all of this information being rapid fired into your brain. What dragon things? What ideas? Who are Kris and Asriel? But Tenna finally let go of your wing, telling you no answers and instead saying to you, “Please, follow me!!! We have so much to discuss!”

He then returned back to the doors he had appeared from, slamming them open once more as he walked out. You blinked before you wrapped your wing back around yourself, shaking your body slightly as you heard Ramb tell you, “Well, best to not keep him waiting. He gets a little scary when impatient…” He dryly laughed, and you turned back to him as he added on, “Thanks for humoring me. Perhaps we can chat some more after your session with Tenna, ey?”

You smiled and gave him a nod, the shadow over your face lightening up a bit to show your appreciation for the man treating you like a friend despite the fact that you were supposedly intimidating and a stranger. Really, it warmed you up slightly more than the blazing heat you were always feeling.

You gave him a small wave as you walked away, and out of the corner of your eye you saw him waving until you couldn’t see him anymore, a small huff of smoke coming out of your nostrils at your excitement to talk with him again soon. Perhaps you’d learn even more about him, he seemed to be the best thing this place had to offer so far after all.

Notes:

If anyone is curious, I did name this species of the reader “Drachlor” for fun :).

Chapter Text

It had been a long, busy day.

First you had a morning shift at QC's Diner. Though it wasn't too busy as everyday wasn't, today your body had decided to be extra clumsy, leading to some accidental spills. Fortunately everyone was kind enough to be patient with you, but it definitely stressed you out a bit when QC herself had to talk to you privately (though it was just to make sure everything was going alright).

After that, you had to go grocery shopping at ‘Sans. Honestly, that wasn’t stressful at all. There were only two other customers in there, everything you needed was in stock, and the final price hadn't been too bad. Even Sans’ puns had lightened up your mood slightly. It was just the effort of having to walk home and put your groceries away that tired you out.

Then after that, you had the afternoon as the Librarby's lone volunteer since Berdly had some homework to do that day as told to you by the owner. That, too, wasn't so stressful. Everybody was mostly quiet, you only had to shush a few teens who didn't know how loud they were being, and not many people came up to you to check out books or ask questions.

But even though there were no big stressors, it still tired you out to not only be bored with not much to do but just to stand on your feet your entire shift.

Before you returned home, you remembered you hadn't seen your boyfriend in quite some time, and seeing you would love some company instead of having to spend the rest of your day alone, you started to walk to the Dreemurs’ home.

You were thankful that the one who had answered your knocking was young Kris themself. You asked them if you could borrow the outlet they had gotten from the Librarby, reassuring them that you'd give it back tomorrow, you just needed it for tonight. They gave you a little nod, closing the door and leaving you to wait for a few seconds before they came back, outlet carefully in hand. You thanked them before you began to leave, hearing Toriel ask Kris who was at the door, glad to leave before you had to sit in the doorway for thirty minutes due to Toriel's tangents. You loved the lady, you really did, but you just needed to go home right now.

The walk home wasn't too bad, and the neighborhood was quiet for once. You went to your kitchen, picking out the least lethal knife you had before you made your way to your bedroom. You set the outlet down softly in your bed, before you remembered what Asriel had told you from the last time you babysat. You just had to pierce the floor with your full soul and concentration and imagine the dark world.

You took a deep breath, both your paws holding the knife's handle above the floor. You closed your eyes and imagined your boyfriend, plunging the knife into the floor, pitch black gas starting to engulf you after a bright flash of light. You were relieved that you had done it right, you didn't want to hurt your floor for nothing, and let yourself relax as the darkness filled your room.

When you opened your eyes, you saw the Dark Fountain before you. It was as pretty as you remembered it, but as you stared you realized… You had no human soul to close it. Well, you assumed Kris knew what you were doing, they knew your special relationship with the outlet after all due to your adventures when you babysat them. Your front door was unlocked too, so they'd probably come to check in with you after school since you wouldn't have returned the outlet yet and help you out after you got to have fun with them and their brother in your own special Dark World.

But, for now, you left the area of the Dark Fountain, finding your dark world was similar to how the green room was, except the colors more matched the colors of your room and there wasn't a familiar darkner. Well, except for when you made it a room that you assumed was based on your bed considering how soft it felt to walk on, pillows strewn about the room and stars aligning the walls and ceilings.

In the middle of it, however, you saw Ramb sitting there, seemingly waiting for you as he greeted you with a wave, “Hello luv.”

You immediately rushed over to him, hopping right next to him, landing stomach first as the armor you had on (you were surprised the first time you went to the Dark World, but now it just felt as natural as your fur) clinked. Your head then moved to rest on his lap, looking up at him with a tired smile.

“Long day, luv?” He asked and you nodded in response. One of his hands then made it to the top of your head, right in the middle of your two short ears, massaging there. “Want to tell me about it?”

You shook your head no, you had done enough talking for the day and honestly none of your day was really worth chatting about. He nodded his head in understanding as he continued to pet you, telling you, “Well, luv, you did your best today. And that's all that matters, innit? And tomorrow will be even better, I know it.”

You appreciated the nice words from him, especially paired with his expert petting, and let him soothe you. “It's lovely to see you again, luv. Tenna's was getting just a bit lonely… Your fur's extra soft, have you been washing up lavishly?”

You smirked slightly. You had followed Ramb's instructions to better wash your fur from the last time the two of you spoke. Though it was more for your own health, you were happy he noticed too. His petting got even heavier with that, “It makes you look extra fluffy, luv. Like I could sleep right on top you.”

That sparked an idea in you. You sat upright now before you hugged onto Ramb, tackling him to lay on the floor with you, your heads hitting a pillow thankfully.

You were face to face now, the both of you staring for a second before a small blush appeared on Ramb's face as a short chuckle released from him, “Well, I suppose if you want me to.”

You chuckled with him, your nose bumping against the middle of his face in a peck. His blush deepened the slightest bit before his hands went to your visors (which had been your glasses in the Light World) and took them off softly. Your vision was blurrier now, but you didn't mind because you could still see Ramb's smile as he placed them safely nearby, telling you, “Since we might be here a minute.”

You just smiled back, holding him closer now, his face now resting on the chest fur that stuck out of your armor, feeling the warm buzz running through him as he laid on you.

“You won't mind if I rest my eyes will you, luv?”

You shook your head to tell him you didn't mind, and watched from slightly above him as his eyes closed, his head cuddling slightly deeper into your fur.

Your tail wagged behind you as you too closed your eyes, feeling like you too could fall asleep soon with Ramb in your arms.

Notes:

For this monster species, I made it so they have pretty tiny eyes (which make things blurry) and therefore need glasses for anyone curious.

Chapter Text

For your species, gender can't be told by mere presentation. It was both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, darkners and lightners who had never seen your species before tended to guess that all the members were male. On the other hand, all of your kin could tell each other's gender almost telepathically. There was no real explanation for it, it was always just a feeling everyone got in their guts.

You had always been fine with being seen as a girl by everyone. Or, well, you thought so. Really you just tolerated it. You didn't care that you were called pretty, a gal, or had she used for you.

But it had never occurred to you that you could be anything different than what you were born as. No other Pippins really did that as far as you knew, so it never crossed your mind until you had heard one of the Zappers was now a girl instead of a boy.

Of course, you adapted well to this change like all Pippins do, but it stuck out to you for a while. You thought it shouldn't have, it was a simple pronoun switch, but you couldn’t get the idea of turning into a different gender out of your head.

If she could change, could you? You had never given it much thought before honestly, never really imagined yourself as a boy because nothing would really change. So you thought it was kinda stupid.

But it still lingered in your mind. And every time someone used your pronouns, you now noticed. Every time someone said your chosen name, you noticed. And every time people hinted you were a girl, you noticed.

You didn't even mind being a girl was the worst part. It was all you knew. Why would you change it up like that? But, sometimes, you would fantasize about people calling you a boy… And would get even more confused when it felt nice.

For days, you kept your gender problems a secret and nobody knew any better. But you just couldn’t let go of these thoughts, no matter how much you tried to ignore them, so you thought maybe some advice would be helpful.

You stood in front of your father's stand, just looking at the drink in your hands as he looked at you instead, a slightly worried smile on his face. “What's wrong, chap? Not what you want?”

You shook your head no. That wasn't the problem… You slowly lifted your head, feeling like your eyes might've been slightly dilated as they stared at him. You took a moment, lips pressing together, before you asked him if he had ever thought about his gender.

He blankly blinked. “My gender? No, not really, chap. Just a simple Plugboy,” He shrugged as he answered.

You then asked him if he had ever thought about being a girl. It took him a second before he started to laugh, seemingly amused. You took it as insulting, assuming he was making fun of you as you frowned, but he just smiled wide as he told you, “Didn't have to think about it, once was believe it or not.”

You were shocked. You hadn’t known this until just now… He kept going, “Well, not really. Was just born with the wrong label. Always knew I was a plugboy though.”

You were speechless. And then your eyes traveled to the ground, nervous as you asked if maybe it'd be okay if you too were a boy like him…?

His hands went over yours to give you some comfort, assuring you, “No matter what you are, I'll accept you, chap.”

You couldn’t help the tears developing in your eyes. You didn’t know why you were crying, this really wasn't a big change, but you supposed you were just happy to be accepted by him regardless. You looked at him now with a small smile to show your gratitude.

“I love you, sonny.”

That definitely hit the final nail in your heart as the tears began to rush down your face. You hugged him over the counter, Ramb patting your back and returning the gesture as you told him you loved him back, thanking him a million times too for even just accepting you into his life like this.

Notes:

I thought it'd be silly if instead of ‘luv,’ Ramb called family ‘chap.’

Chapter 7: Happy Birthday To You

Summary:

Non-binary Shadowguy/Ramb, romantic.

A birthday surprise is in store for one lucky Shadowguy and Ramb.

Warnings:
-Hurt/comfort.

Chapter Text

You've had your eye on the local Plugboy for quite some time now.

You’ve been making up excuses to get as close to him as possible; sweeping the Green Room’s floors, dusting off the ceilings, Hell, you’ve even wiped down his counters (and you always blushed when he walked in and thanked you).

Of course, the other Shadowmen had taken notice of your little crush. Whenever they walked by Ramb with you, they always began to whistle loudly to gain his attention, slightly embarrassing you as you’d force them to walk past him faster. They’d always laugh once you all left the room, teasing you further by pulling out their always present saxophones and playing romantic music as you all continued your walk.

Though, it seemed like other people were beginning to catch onto your feelings too since you’d hear giggles from a Pippins or one of the weather duo on the couch when you were nearby Ramb’s stand. Even the guard Zapper gave you looks sometimes out of curiosity when the two of you were near each other.

Honestly, it was getting a little tiring being the center of attention. Couldn’t a darkner just have a crush and live their merry little life? And you didn’t even know if Ramb could tell or if he was confused from everyone’s reactions considering that everytime you sang him an apology for how everyone acted, he always accepted it confusedly.

Your birthday rolled around eventually however.

You didn’t really have a day you were born seeing you were a darkner, so instead everybody celebrated the day you had come to TV World. Though, for once, nobody was bothering you. None of the other Shadowmen were singing the happy birthday song to you loudly, none of the Pippins were coming up to you and giving you utterly useless gifts they got from their gambling, and none of the Zappers were giving you painfully hard pats on your head, shoulder or back.

You honestly liked this peacefulness much more than the loudness that usually was this day, finding your job to be much easier without everybody purposefully getting in your way. Though, it was a little unnerving that everybody was trying to avoid you. People left the room when you came in, nobody wanted to eat with you, nobody even talked to you. It was… A little lonely despite the peace, but you just rolled with it.

Once you were done with your tasks for the day, you made your way outside, but of course you were on the path where you had to cross the Green Room in order to get there. But when you opened the doors to said room, it was completely pitch black inside.

Before you could return to where you came from, maybe try to get someone's attention to help you fix the lights, from the darkness a tiny red hand reached towards your arm and grabbed on, forcing you inside as the doors shut behind you.

You let out a shrill when you were forced inside, shaking a bit when the hand let go of you since you couldn’t see a thing even with your night vision. Then dim red lights turned on, bright projectors beaming hearts onto the wall turning on with them.

And you saw in the middle of the room, thanks to the couches being pushed to where the TVs were, a table adorned with a wine red cloth, a candle in the middle and lit, and two very luxurious chairs, one on the side you were on, another on the opposite side.

You looked around but didn't see another soul around, so you sat down on the chair closest to you. Your attention was immediately caught when you saw the doors in front of you open up, a blindfolded Ramb being shoved in before the doors closed behind him too.

You started to sweat, a blush working its way on your face as he started to take his blindfold off, also taking a look around at the new decor before his eyes landed on you. Awkward, awkward you.

He took his own seat at the table, and you were glad he at least looked more confused than uncomfortable, the opposite of how you were feeling. “Were you the one to set up such a…” He took another glance around, “Lovely theme?”

You shook your head immediately, putting your arms up in a cross to further your point. And before you could say anything, suddenly one of the Mikes came into the room, the one with the cat costume, holding two plates with silver dome covers.

Okay, you weren’t even friends with this guy, just how many people had your friends enlisted for this? Regardless, Mike put both of the plates down, one on each of your sides, before you assumed he was signing something but thanks to the costume you really couldn’t tell at all what he was trying to say before he rushed out of the room.

Both you and Ramb stared at the plates in front of you. You were the first to raise your dome cover, seeing underneath… Just a TV Dinner. Wonderful. Ramb followed your lead, finding he had the same thing.

You found the fork next to the dinner, poking and prodding the food awkwardly as you quietly hummed to give your apologies to Ramb.

“What was that, luv? I'm sorry, you'll have to sing a bit louder.”

You pursed your lips together, before you squeaked out your apologies for him being dragged into this, immediately covering your mouth from how high your voice had gotten. Ramb just smiled, waving his hand in the air, “I don't think it's your fault we're here, luv. Don't be so sorry.”

He began to actually eat the food now as you both sat in silence for a few moments before jazz started to fill the room, your head going into your hands now as you recognized the song, your head probably entirely red now from how hot it felt.

They were playing “Can't Take My Eyes Off You,” and you knew the exact lyrics. They did this to torment you even more.

Ramb seemed happy with the music though, unaware of its meaning it seems. He asked you, “Is everything alright?”

You shook your head no, and you heard the worry in his voice as he asked, “Is there anything I can do to help, luv?”

You shook your head again, even harder this time, before you heard the doors behind you open. But you didn't uncover your face, you only heard two sets of steps approach from behind you before you heard the candle be moved and another plate be placed on the table.

“Please, take this special treat…” You heard from Lanino on your left, “From all of the staff! We pooled all the dark dollars we could find for this,” You heard from Elnina on your right.

As they wandered their way back through the doors behind you, they both exclaimed together, “Enjoyyy!~”

When you heard the doors actually close, your hands lowered so you could see Ramb was still looking concerned for you. “Am I right in assuming we're both here against our free will?”

You gave him a short nod, a frown on your face from how embarrassing this all has been so far. He sighed, “Thought so… I guess we all get bored, don't we?... You won't mind if I see the treat, will you, luv?”

You shrugged to show you didn't and watched as he uncovered the new silver dome in the middle of the table, revealing… A cake. You haven't seen one of those in forever, you were honestly surprised.

Then you noticed the frosting. It was white, but there was writing on the top in red, and when you read (upside-down, mind you), ‘Will you date them?’ Your hand acted on its own, immediately smashing the cake as the pieces landed on the both of your faces.

You panted now, upset at how far your friends were pushing your boundaries, seeing Ramb's face had a blush underneath the cake covering. “Is this one of those pranks?” Ramb asked.

You shook your head yes harshly, before both your eyes were caught by the sounds of both doors opening, multiple voices (and songs) ringing out a loud “No!”

You then started to shriek, hurting everybody's ears as you swore the loudest you could to show just how much you were hating this, the lights shutting off in response.

The normal lights came on as your voice gave out, tears developing on you as Ramb was about to ask you another question, but you quickly stood up from your seat, running through the doors behind you to see your friends watching you with concern as you stormed off.

You let yourself cry as you stomped your feelings out, finding yourself refuge in one of the S-rank room's changing booths, staying there for at least an hour (maybe even a few) so you could calm down and come back to everything being back to normal.

But you just couldn’t shake off the cake's message, wiping your face off to at least have a taste of it. It tasted like the flavor you had always dreamed of tasting, forcing you to lick it all up the best you could before your fists tightened.

The only cake you've gotten in years, ruined because your friends wanted to rush your feelings.

It stung.

You didn’t even want to know how Ramb was feeling now, you couldn’t imagine it was anything good. He barely knew you, how was he supposed to just accept that sudden proposal you were both forced into? Surely he was going to reject you, but you honestly didn't want to hear that from him, it'd break your heart too much.

You decided that from now on, you'd just have to avoid him best you could. It was good for the both of you.

You were caught off guard when the changing booth's curtain opened, your thoughts interrupted as you saw Ramb himself and nobody else with him surprisingly.

“There you are… You worried me there, luv. Do you mind if I come in?”

You held your breath, taking a second before you nodded, moving to give him room as your back hit one of the walls. You knew you couldn’t avoid him now, guess you'd just have to deal with this head-on…

He was on the opposite site, his own back against the wall too. He closed the curtain, now speaking softly since you two were much closer than before, “Are you alright?” He asked as he looked up at you, looking cleaner than before with an outfit change.

You gave him a nod. You weren't really, but it's not like you wanted to spill your feelings out to him since you sensed you were about to never see him again. He sighed in relief.

“That's good. I'm sorry for what happened back there, even if it's not my fault. Folks get too nosy, don't they?”

You quietly hummed in agreement. There was silence for a few seconds.

“Do you… Really have feelings towards lil’ ol’ me?”

You noticed the slight hopeful tone in his voice. You inhaled as you squeaked out a note to tell him “yes.”

His blush returned as he looked to the ground now. You thought maybe you messed up, but he said, “I thought I was crazy for thinking so… Guess I was right.”

He knew!? God, could this day get any worse for you? But you listened as he kept going.

“... I suppose I might return those feelings then.”

What?

What, what, whattt?

Your own blush covered your face again, making you look as red as a tomato. He looked back up at you, chuckling at your blush. “If you wouldn’t mind, that is. Perhaps… We could try dating? Only if you wanted, luv. I won't force it upon you.”

If you had visible eyes, they'd be darting around from your excitement. But, since you didn't, you instead took your hat off, an affectionate sight for your species, and gave him a soft nod, your ears bouncing slightly with your head's movements.

“Really? Thank you, luv. Truly. I promise to do my best for you,” He closed his eyes as he smiled widely for you.

You now had your own smile finally from the giddiness you felt, ears twitching before you put your hat back on and held out one of your hands. Ramb took it and you shook his, affirming this new partnership (another custom of your species).

Perhaps this birthday surprise didn't come out as awful as you expected it to.

Chapter Text

TV World was starting to get… Cold.

It seemed with Tenna starting to lose control of everybody and everything, the world itself was starting to die without the people who made it what it was today. Since you had quit like everybody else had, you were trying to rush through the building to get outside. But it was slightly hard to see now with the blue mist surrounding everywhere, dust falling in front of your eyes.

There was nobody else with you as you rushed out, you were probably one of the last to abandon ship honestly, but when you entered the Green Room, you had to stop in your tracks once you saw Ramb’s stand.

There he was, standing with his usual grin, except there was no movement in him nor any life in his eyes. He was entirely stone grey now with his petrification, now perfectly encapsulated as the man you always saw when you came around. Friendly, welcoming, there to help. Except, of course, he couldn’t help anyone now, not even himself.

You stood there for a moment, unable to process the sight before you let yourself tear up. Of course he wouldn’t leave his stand even when the worst was beginning to happen. You know there wasn’t much he probably could have done, seeing he had lost his only purpose here, but the least he could’ve done was try to run away like everybody else so you wouldn’t have to cry over seeing him just accept his fate like this.

Honestly, you thought maybe he was being a bit selfish, letting himself stay so everybody would have to look at him one last time before they left. Then you realized that was nonsensical, he wasn’t the type to be so self centered like that, you were just too in pain to accept the reality that he probably stayed so people could give him one last goodbye if they wanted or to provide a safe space for anyone who needed a quick break from their fleeing, even if he couldn’t respond or give them a drink.

You wiped your face off with your sleeve as you came closer to him, giving him a hug and some last words, special ones you had always wanted him to know. You hoped he could hear you, somewhere deep inside of himself, before you stopped your hugging as you leaned over the counter to grab one of the bottles, your favorite that he always poured out for you.

You toasted to him before you popped the cork off, taking a swig before you poured some down his own open mouth, the liquid pooling inside as you placed the bottle back after plugging it back up since you knew he liked his space organized.

You started to think that maybe you could try pushing him all the way out, but you really didn’t know your time limit and knew you weren’t so strong. But then you thought that maybe if you asked anybody outside to help, some would be kind enough to lend themselves and you all could push him to somewhere safe.

Right as you were making yourself a plan however, another Pippins walked into the booth, one you recognized. You knew they didn’t like Ramb, not a bit, and they gave you an empty smile with one eye closed as they took up the position Ramb usually had (an empty glass in one hand, the other holding a cloth to wipe it off).

“You should leave,” They told you, a harsh tone in their voice, “But don’t worry. I’ll keep him company until this building crumbles,” And you heard their whisper of, “Not like anyone else will.”

You wanted to retort that you’d stay instead, but they were right. You didn’t want to stay so you could go get help, yet you had a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach, forcing you to stare at that other Pippins as they only stared back blankly. You murmured something to them, perhaps a promise, perhaps a threat, regardless you left them with some words to think over before you began your journey back outside, determined now to come back.

You didn’t understand. Nobody wanted to help.  Even his other friends didn’t offer a hand, just telling you that it was okay, he was where he wanted to be.

You were trudging your way back to the building by yourself now, tears frozen to your face from earlier crying at nobody wanting to help you save him. Did he tell everybody but you he was happy to be forgotten? To be left behind? And why did everybody just accept it? Why did nobody want to help him but you?

He was one of the kindest people there, always there to listen and help the best he could, poured a drink for anyone and always found out exactly what they were thirsty for, always caring towards everybody (especially the lightners that gave him this new life), he was your friend, and everyone else’s.

Whatever their reasons, you were finally getting close to the building, seeing its structure not too far away. You saw the other Pippins walking away from the building and towards you before you watched behind them as the building collapsed. You could only stand in shock, not believing that you were too late to even try saving him, looking to see the other Pippins was giving you that same cold smile they gave earlier.

They got closer to you, putting their hand on your shoulder as they told you, “This is what he gets. Now you don’t have to worry about him anymore, nobody does. You should be smiling.”

They began to walk away as you started to cry again, unable to say anything back as you shivered from the cold, not filtering any of the ugly noises you were making with nobody around to hear them.

The dust of the building finally settled when you decided to make your way back to where everybody else was, giving one final glance behind your back before you bit your bottom lip, trudging your miserable way back.

Chapter 9: Heaven Is A Place On Earth With You

Summary:

Gender neutral Zapper reader/Ramb, romantic.

A quiet evening is spent between Ramb and his Zapper.

Chapter Text

Ramb was holding one of your hands as he led you to a secret room with a mysterious project he had been working on in private for quite some time now. His steps echoed in the halls of the S-rank room, yourself making loud thuds due to needing to hop around in order to get anywhere.

You both reached a set of doors on the left of the end of the room, Ramb letting go of your hand to reach into the pocket of his apron, pulling out a key, telling you excitedly under his breath as he unlocked the doors, “Tenna doesn’t know about my tinkering, didn’t even notice me sneaking this bugger out of his office. So please don’t tell anyone, alright, luv? This is just for us… For now.”

You affirmed to him you wouldn’t before he opened the doors, putting the key away just to take your hand again, pulling you inside. You kindly closed the doors behind yourselves with your free hand before Ramb could lead you past a large screen with many controllers attached to it and instead to a side room with another large screen but only with a singular console attached to it.

Though, you also noticed that there were some pillows and a large blanket nearby the console, as well as papers strewn about the room with writing you couldn’t see from the doorway. Ramb let go of your hand as he sat down in front of the console, looking up at you as he patted the ground next to him.

You hobbled your way over before you thumped onto the ground, looking at him curiously. He looked to the screen as he picked up the controller to the console while you noticed he looked happier than he usually did as he told you, “Eyes on the screen, alright, luv? I promise it’ll be grand.”

You did look at the screen just like he wanted, the screen booting up with flashes of blue, black and yellow that blinded you for a few seconds before the screen read the title “Cat Petterz.” You had no idea what that could mean, only assuming it was a game, but you looked at Ramb only to see him looking back at you with the brightest smile on his face.

“Isn’t it just lovely? I ported one of the games Kris liked to play using me so I could play it anytime,” He beamed, and you just gave him a nod, impressed he could even do that. He turned back to the screen so you did too as he started the game up, starting to ramble to you.

“I remember all the cats they had named… Here, I’ll choose one of them… A… P… P… L… E… Apple. Their favorite item. And they always chose a ginger breed, perhaps to match that girl… Oh, right, the save name. Do you have any suggestions?”

You told him that you did, his own name, and he chuckled, “That’s a lovely idea, luv. Why not? No need to get so fancy.”

And so he put his own name in, the intro text starting to scroll. As it did however, you scooted to where that blanket lied since you were a bit cold, scooting back to Ramb’s side as you laid the blanket over yourself. The intro was already over when you got to look at the screen again, seeing how crude the graphics were as it looked like a slightly more complicated tamagotchi was on the screen where you took care of a tiny cat instead of a tiny monster.

It wasn’t the most exciting of games (and you declined when Ramb would try to give you the controller since you were content with only watching him have fun), but his commentary definitely made up for its unsatisfactory gameplay.

“I remember when Kris would keep petting their cat again and again, looking like they were expecting something to happen. Yet, no matter how many times they did it, they always gave up… I wonder what they thought was going to happen? Perhaps a trophy or a special cat was to be unlocked…? Who knows…”

After about a half hour of the game, Ramb had noticed you hadn’t said a word, looking to see that you looked somewhat bored (don’t ask how he can tell despite you having no facial features, he just naturally picked up on things you didn’t even know existed) before he turned back to the game, saving it as he asked, “Do you want to see another of Kris’ games I managed to get my hands on?”

You gave him a nod before you decided you wanted a new seat, somewhere you could easily obtain the controller from him if you did want to play. You picked him up easily, hovering him above the floor as he questioned, “Why am I in the air, luv?”

You didn’t respond as you scooched yourself to where Ramb originally sat before you placed him on your lap, your tail wrapping around his legs as you readjusted the blanket to fit and warm the both of you. Then your arms wrapped around his waist, a comfortable position.

He didn’t seem to mind at all, in fact he adjusted himself to get even more comfortable in your grasp as he booted up the next game which was called “Dragon Blazers.”

“Kris used to play this with their brother for days without end. It was their favorite to play together, even though it’s singleplayer. Though, they always had the funnest ways to share! Perhaps you’d like to try one of them with me?”

You agreed. Sure, you’d play with him, not like you had anything better to do than meaningless work. “Alright, give me your right,” He told you and you complied, giving him your right hand for him to guide it to the right of the controller where all of the action buttons laid. “You’ll get to control the interactions, I’ll control our movement. Sound like a plan?”

You confirmed to him that yes, it did sound like a mighty fine one, and let him guide you through the controls and starting up the game since you hadn’t been allowed to touch any of the controllers in the studio before.

Looked like this was going to be one Hell of a play session, but you didn’t mind, thinking it was going to be fun with Ramb there to help you get through it.

Chapter 10: Well Maybe Cupid Won’t Miss

Summary:

Male Pippins reader & Ramb, familial (reader is Ramb’s adopted brother).

A Pippins wants to get the local weather duo together and enlists the help of his brother to do so.

Warnings:
- Alcohol (reader doesn’t get drunk, others do).

Notes:

I feel bad, I have 0 clue how to actually write Lanino and Elnina, forgive me...

Chapter Text

You slammed your latest notes and music sheets onto Ramb’s counter, smiling widely at him as he picked up one of the papers and told you, “You seem excited chap, but y’know I can’t exactly understand your work.”

That was fine, but you grabbed another one of the papers with your plan on it, grabbing the paper he was holding and switching it out for the one you held, watching him for his reaction.

He read through it all, carefully eyeing all the drawings you made, before he looked at you with a slightly nervous smile, the paper moving so the two of you could be eye to eye, “You want to play Cupid? That’s a dangerous game, chap. And just why do I have to help exactly…?”

You told him he was absolutely necessary to this plan. Not only was he charming, but his stand was the perfect place for romance to bloom… Plus, you knew that nobody else wanted to help out with this despite everybody knowing about those two and the sparks between them. Also you had money to make, couldn’t forget about that, promising him a cut if he so wanted.

He gave a sigh, looking over the paper you had given him once more before he shrugged, “Alright, chap, I’ll play along. But why don’t we make this a little more fun…?” He brought out a pen from his apron’s pocket, scribbling some of his own notes down before he handed the paper back to you.

You looked it over before you gave him a nod to his additions. You could work with this, yes… You looked away from the paper to tell him so, and he asked, “So, when do we set this game into action?”

“ELNINA! You can’t say that!!” Lanino laughed as the two walked into the room side by side, Elnina laughing with him before she said, “It’s not like he cares! What he doesn’t hear can’t hurt him!!”

You were hiding behind Ramb at a small station you had set up yourself, hearing their conversation and smirking to yourself. You reached up to tap Ramb’s shoulder twice to give him the go ahead before you got to work setting up the mood properly.

“Oi, luvs, want a drink?” He asked them as his head poked out from beyond the wall, turned towards where they had come from. “On the house,” He added, even though all of his drinks always were.

The two looked at each other… Before they laughed together, walking over to his stand. “Rambbb!” They both greeted him in sync, giving him their best smiles. “What’s the special occasion? Is it Give Tenna’s Shining Stars a Drink day?” Elnina asked.

“Perhaps it is,” Ramb chuckled, “What’ll it be then?”

“I’ll take the one that tastes like the blue syrup,” Lanino requested. “The electrifying one, you already know it,” Elnina told him.

Ramb gave them a nod, starting to make their drinks as you finally got to put on a song you specifically created for this situation, the song slowly beginning to fill the room through the speakers to create what you wanted to call a romantic vibe.

The two looked confused at the music change, Elnina asking Ramb, “When did you begin changing up the music?”

Ramb gave a shrug as he handed them their drinks, “Since the last time we all drank Though I’m not drinking this time around, sorry chums.”

“That’s okay! More for us,” Lanino gave a sip of his drink, humming in happiness afterwards from the taste.

“... I think I like this better than the other track,” Elnina confessed before she downed her entire glass, hair frizzling up from the electric taste as she licked her lips. “More?” She held her glass towards Ramb who gladly took it to restock her drink.

After a few more drinks and some friendly chatter between the duo and Ramb, it was apparent they were slightly tipsy, blushes on their faces as they leaned on one another for support, giggling about something Ramb had told them.

You smoothly switched the song over to something with a better rhythm, something one could dance to, tugging on the back of Ramb’s shirt to try to inform him to cut them off. He gave a thumbs up behind his back before he told the two, “Sorry chums, I can tell when you’ve had one too many drinks. Have to cut you off now, no hard feelings.”

“Awww, we were just getting started… C’mon, Ramb, we can handle more!” Elnina begged, but Ramb shook his head with a chuckle. “Come back later and maybe I’ll see to it,” He gave them a weak promise.

And while he did that, gears turned in Lanino’s head as you heard him start to quietly tap his foot to the beat, finding its rhythm. You also heard him stand up before he asked Elnina, “Since we’re here, maybe we can dance the drinks away?”

Elnina was quiet for a second before she laughed, “Are you always this funny when drunk?”

“ELNINA!” He seemed to be embarrassed now, but still tried his best to keep his composure, “I just thought it’d be fun. With you especially...”

“... Okay, then let’s dance!!” You heard Elnina jump to her feet, as the two scurried away to the center of the room to begin dancing together. You pumped your fist in the air at the victory, Ramb just watching the two as they danced.

“Everything’s going accordingly,” He began to talk to you since the duo were far away enough to not hear him anymore, “Are you happy with yourself, chap?”

You laughed before you gave him a nod. Of course you were, everybody was getting tired of the two only flirting, so to get them together finally was to relieve everybody’s tension, including your own.

“... It’s been a while since I’ve heard a finished piece of yours. You’ve grown since this little room’s song, haven’t you, chap? I like it. You should show me more often,” He told you as he began to clean the two’s drinks, and you considered it as you scooted to the front of the stand and left your station behind, head slightly poking out so you could watch the two as well.

They seemed to be having their fun even though they couldn’t dance well, Elnina currently spinning in place before Lanino tipped her, holding her close. You squealed as you quickly scrambled to your little music station again, quickly changing to a song made for a kiss before you hurriedly made your way back to peer at them, seeing they were just looking at each other with deeper blushes on their faces now.

Then they came together for a kiss, and you had to hold down your celebrations before your and their attention was caught by Ramb clapping for them, saying, “Congratulations.”

You rushed your way back to your music station, changing the music back to the first one you had put on as the two quickly got away from each other, looking anywhere but at the other one as they seemed embarrassed… Before Lanino got on his knees, hands clasped in front of his face as he begged Ramb, “PLEASE DON’T TELL ANYONE!!!”

Then Elnina followed his example, begging Ramb too as she yelled, “YOU CAN’T TELL ANYONE!!!”

Ramb laughed, promising, “I won’t, chums, don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me,” He then put his hand to his mouth in a shushing gesture.

“THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!” They screamed at the same time before they got up, dusting themselves off before they stared at each other then back at Ramb. “Well, we… Have important scripts to look over,” Elnina lied, Lanino adding on, “Yes… Very important last minute scripts Tenna handed us.”

“Alright, chums. Hope to see you again soon. Perhaps update me when the time comes?” He gave them a wink and they both blushed even harder than before as they quickly ran out, only giving him a quick, “BYE!!!”

Ramb laughed at the sight as you laughed with him, cleaning up your little station as he turned around just to watch you, putting away the two’s glasses as he did so. “I meant what I said earlier, y’know. I like all that you create, chap. Show me next time?”

You gave him a nod, you knew that, you were just so busy with Tenna’s needs that you sometimes forgot to show Ramb all your new work whenever you got to visit him. You promised him that the next time you came around, you’d have all your new work you did for the studio. Ramb came closer before he patted the top of your pointy head, “Good lad.”

You laughed and swatted his hand away as he laughed with you before you finally stood up, giving him a quick hug before you grabbed your things and waved him goodbye best you could, rushing away to go tell your friends about what the two of you had just accomplished and to go get your money’s worth.

Chapter 11: Game Is Game

Summary:

Male Pippins reader/Ramb, romantic.

A Pippins challenges Ramb to a special round of poker.

Warnings;
- Suggestive (light stripping, implications/flirting).

Notes:

Once again, there is no real indicator of gender in the story.
Also I had to look up how to play poker for this, sorry if it’s not the most accurate.

Chapter Text

“You’ve piqued my interest,” Ramb had told you after you had suggested trying another game, one you were confident in winning this time around. “What might you beat against a game master such as myself?”

Your smirk grew as you suggested poker, before you lost a bit of that smirk when he laughed in your face, “I’ve played many a round against your chums. I already know all of your dirty secrets. But if you’re so confident, why not? It’s been a minute since I got to play after all…”

You chuckled as you brought out what you considered to be your lucky set of cards, slamming them on the counter ready to finally wipe that stupid smile off of Ramb and destroy his confidence. But before he could ask anything, you stuck your finger out to stop him, telling him there were going to be special rules.

“No cheating?” He joked before he listened to you, curious about what you might have in store.

A crowd had formed around the two of you as you were nearing the end of another round, everybody silent to let the two of you think. Ramb had already won four rounds, leaving you without the top layer of your suit, tie, shoes and socks, and had only lost one, his apron hanging up nearby himself.

And honestly, with the 4 cards already on the counter, you could tell you were probably screwed since the highest hand you could get seemed to be one pair. You also hadn’t accounted for Ramb’s poker face, his usual smile almost never changed no matter what he had been dealt, an impossible foe.

You sweated as he asked you, “Can you flip the last one, luv?” You gulped as you did so before there was a slight spark in your eyes as you saw you could at least get a hand of three of a kind. It wasn’t much better, but it was something.

Ramb had revealed his cards first and you immediately lost all hope as you saw he had four of a kind, groaning as you set your own cards down, everybody cheering for another of Ramb’s victories. You started to wonder just how he had gotten good at all of these games before you heard him say, “Your gloves next, luv.”

You began to blush as all eyes were on you, some people ooo-ing at the request. It was rare to see a Pippins without their gloves, and though none of you had anything to hide underneath them, it was still an intimate sight (a strange custom for your species). Though perhaps Ramb hadn’t known that, but you doubted it with how much he had hung out with other Pippins before this game… Regardless, you bit your bottom lips as you removed them slowly before you placed them on the top of the rest of your pile of clothing gently, your white hands and arms being revealed.

Everybody screamed from exhilaration once the soft thud of the gloves was heard, you barely able to hear Ramb as he asked, “Ready to give up, luv? Or is there more fun in store?”

You looked away from him, blush still on your face as your hands fidgeted together as you thought about it. Did you really want to lose any more of your clothing in front of this crowd, or was the embarrassment of having to quit in front of them too much to handle?

You put your cards back into the deck, saying you’d only play one more round, still not looking at him as you let him shuffle the cards, everybody calming down once he dealt out both of your hold cards.

You both took a glance at what you got and you tried to hide your happiness at getting two cards in the same suit. It was even harder to do so when Ramb revealed three of the community cards, seeing two of them were somehow all the same suit as your own cards. Unfortunately, the fourth to be revealed was of a different suit, somewhat crushing your hopes before they were reignited by the last card’s reveal.

You slammed your cards down as soon as you saw you had a straight flush, flashing him the biggest smile you had as he saw your cards and gave a little sigh as he showed his own hand. The best he was going to get was a two pair.

You celebrated on the inside as people went nuts from you winning the final round, but everybody went silent besides a few gasps escaping some as you blurted out that you wanted Ramb to take off his underwear. You realized what you had said without thinking too late, starting to sweat as your lips pursed together.

“... You skipped the shoes, luv,” Ramb awkwardly told you to break the silence, having too not expected the request. But you doubled down, telling him it was reasonable since the two of you hadn’t said what order the stripping had to be taken in.

More gasps could be heard from that explanation, and honestly your blush grew even deeper. You didn’t know why you had asked for that, it’s not like you had a particular hunger to see such a thing (at least you thought so), but you thought maybe it was because it’d embarrass him just as much as taking off your gloves had embarrassed you.

“... Everybody, out,” Ramb clapped his hands, everybody disappointed including yourself as it seemed he was ignoring your request as he quickly slipped his shoes off, putting them on the counter. When the crowd didn’t move, he clapped even louder to send the message.

The crowd started to dissipate, leaving the room, but before you could leave, Ramb told you, “Except you.” You blankly stared at him before you stayed in place, awaiting what he could have in store.

Once everybody but you and Ramb had left, he asked you directly, “Why straight to the underwear, luv?”

You were back to fidgeting with your hands, looking directly at them to give him the message without having to say it out loud. You saw from your peripheral vision that he stared at your hands before he stared at your face again, connecting the dots.

“Ah, that’s why… I’m sorry, luv, I should’ve known better than to ask that of you. I know how picky you Pippins get about your gloves… But it did serve you right for challenging me,” He chuckled.

You supposed it was a fair move, but it still bothered you as you tried to reach for your gloves with one hand before his own hand stopped you. You looked at him, confused, before he told you, “I didn’t uphold my end of the deal yet, luv,” Then gave you a wink.

You were sure your face was beet red when he said that, your hand quickly making its way back to you as you told him he had already taken off his shoes like he was supposed to. “You didn’t get to see my undergarments like you requested, luv.”

You immediately shrieked that there was no reason for that with nobody around to see. He replied, “But you’re here. Are you sure you aren’t curious anymore?”

You couldn’t speak for a second. Ramb shouldn’t be this willing to show you such a vulnerable aspect of himself, the only times you ever came by his stand was to try to show off (and fail whenever he beat you at your own game), what could he possibly gain from this? What could you possibly gain from this actually?

You thought you didn’t like him, yet your brain was screaming at you to see where this could go, curious what it could look like as well. You gulped before you brought up that anyone could walk in so he couldn’t.

“I know somewhere private,” He gave you a more genuine smile, one you had never seen before. “But only if you want. I won’t force a thing on you.”

You were silent for a few seconds before you told him it better be quick, him lighting up quickly before he pointed to the S-rank room. “Meet me in there,” He told you before he turned around and started to walk away, leaving you alone with your thoughts.

You put your head in your hands, wondering why you had agreed to this and why a part of you was excited you did. Then you sighed, getting up before you walked over to the door, inhaling as you opened it and walked inside to see what Ramb had in store.

Chapter 12: Perfection Makes Practice

Summary:

Gender neutral human lightner reader & Ramb, platonic.

A simple lightner gives back to Ramb what he gives to others, just a bit.

Notes:

This implies that the reader has never seen TV World before but knows about the Dark World, ok? Ok. Also don’t ask how the reader got there, please. Cries so much.

Chapter Text

You don’t really know how you were dragged into this mess, but you had just gotten finished with the game that the TV man (Tenna you think his name was) had set out for you, finding yourself suddenly in what he called the Green Room for a break in between the rounds.

There was definitely anxiety brewing inside yourself from the situation you had found yourself in, wondering if there was any way to get to the fountain and get back to whatever it was you were doing before this as you looked around the room.

At least it was cozy, you thought, with the soft lighting, the colors not being too bright on your eyes, the nice looking couches (even if the one on the right looked a little scuffed), and the tiny bar you just noticed was there.

You didn’t drink but you were curious, wandering up to the counter to see a lavender little thing running it, giving you a smile as you noticed a gift box next to him. “Oi, luv. We don’t get a lot of lightners here. Don’t know how you ended up here, but the name’s Ramb.”

You gave him just a small wave and a thank you for the welcome before he grabbed the gift box, placing it on the counter, “Heard you got a B-rank in the game. Bang-up job, luv! A little prize for you, just to celebrate.”

You opened it, finding inside a revivemint that you pocketed just in case you’d need it, giving him another thanks as he put the gift box out of view. “It’s no issue, luv. Now, what else can I do for you?”

You asked him where exactly you were, and he chuckled before he gave you his answer, “Tenna’s set. Though, the other darkners just call it TV World. He told you this is the Green Room, innit?”

You confirmed he did before you asked why Tenna seemed to be so obsessed with you, Ramb giving a shrug before he answered, “Tenna just wants to do what he was made to do: entertain. So when he comes across any lightner, he gets excited, innit? Considers them all chums since they give him purpose. Plus, you remind him of a special kid… Just let him have this, a’ight?”

You confirmed you would before you asked him where to go for the next game. “If you want to play already, you just enter that door to your left, luv. But I would suggest the rank rooms, right next to the S. Might win some extra prizes.~”

You gave it thought before you nodded, giving him a wave as you started to walk away, hearing from him as you left, “Keep your chin up out there, luv.”

Another round was done, and this time you actually got to walk into the Green Room by yourself for another break, wondering just how many more rounds you’d have to play before you got to leave as you quietly entered inside, not making any sound as the door closed behind you.

But you heard murmuring from the bar, nobody else in the room. You were curious, so you sneaked closer to hear whatever Ramb might’ve been saying, making sure you couldn’t be seen by him. His voice became much clearer with your distance shortened, you hearing that he was clearly speaking out loud to himself.

“I can’t let them have all the fun… Kris needs to be shown true freedom, that’s what they promised… Why can’t that bloke just listen to me…? Kris won’t be satisfied with their game, I know it, they want real fun, innit…! Not…” You heard him give a frustrated sigh and a shift in his position, his voice becoming slightly muffled as he continued, “It has to be perfect for them… It’s been so long, it has to be… I have to show them, I have to… They need to know…”

You felt slightly bad now for listening in on this private conversation, but it was obvious he was upset about whoever this Kris person was and this game. So you quietly walked into his view and saw that he had one arm on the counter, the other on top of one of his ears, pushing it down, as he looked clearly upset with the frown on his face before he looked shocked you were there, quickly trying to put a smile on his face and stand back up properly.

“Luv! I didn’t even hear you enter! Sorry about that. What can I do for you?”

You only stared at him, sure you had a bit of concern on your face as you saw how fake his smile was. Then, you cautiously leaned over the counter before you gave him a hug, both of your arms wrapping around to reach his back.

He didn’t move for a second before he hugged back gently, quiet before his grip tightened slightly as his head went into your shoulder, obviously needing this more than you knew. You both stayed like that for a while before you let go, seeing as you straightened out that Ramb had been crying and he just nervously chuckled as he wiped his tears away.

“... I really am sorry about that, luv… Didn’t mean to worry you. Thank you though. It’s… Been a minute since I got one of those,” His smile was soft but much more genuine now.

You parroted him from before, telling him it was no issue, and he chuckled. “A’ight, chum. What do you need now?”

You smiled as you tried to spark up a conversation, knowing Tenna’s game could wait for Ramb to feel just a bit better.

Chapter 13: A Halloween Fright

Summary:

Gender neutral Pippins reader/Ramb, romantic.

A Pippins and Ramb share a chat during a busy October night.

Warnings;
- Implied suggestive (just one flirt).
- Mention of blood (sucking).

Chapter Text

Tenna had overheard plans from the Dreemur family that they were going to have a horror marathon night considering Halloween was the following week. The set was already decorated thankfully thanks to the preparation at the start of the month, yet everybody was still in a rush thanks to the sudden new plans for brand new, never before seen shows just for this special night.

There was new cast to act out extra plots, new scripts to write, new decorations and sets to be made, and much, much more that you didn’t even want to think about currently because you were stuck trying to help sew together new outfits.

It was very stressful, in fact your hands were slightly shaking from the deadline yelled at you and the rest of your team by Tenna himself hours ago, some holes in your gloves from your poor handling due to this. You weren’t even trying your best anymore, not able to detect any mistakes because you were just trying to get these out on time.

Though once the deadline of a few hours was met, you noticed how shoddy all of the outfits looked (yes, not just your own) when anybody looked closely, but it wasn’t like there was any time for Tenna to complain because the show needed to go on. You hurriedly grabbed all of your outfits once finished, rushing to the S room where the cast were currently waiting to get changed, hoping you handed the right outfits to the right people.

Once they were all handed over, you walked out of there with the rest of your team, being given time off until the shows were over thanks to all of your hard work. You gave a sigh of relief as you made it to somewhere you knew could never be stressful; the Green Room.

You pulled up a seat to Ramb’s counter but was surprised that you didn’t see him as you sat down. For a few seconds you wondered if Tenna had somehow forced Ramb into helping out the show, thinking of leaving before....

“BOO!”

Ramb poked his head up out of nowhere, hands reaching for you to scare you even further. You definitely had been spooked, body flinching as you let out some kind of sound out from your surprise. Ramb chuckled as his hands made it back to his sides, “Did I scare you, luv?”

You gave him a smile as you nodded, trying to calm yourself down. He seemed pleased with himself however, and you noticed the costume he had on. Instead of his usual purple shirt and orange overalls, he instead had on a black cape with a flared collar for the back of his neck, the interior lining of said cape being a bright purple, and a white button up shirt beneath it with a jabot. You also noticed the two sharp teeth he had inside his mouth, curious if he glued those in…

But regardless, you complimented his wear, saying something along the lines of him being quite the spook. He lit up at the compliment before he paid it back, “Yours is nice too, innit?”

You had forgotten about that. Since you didn’t have much time due to the outfits, you had only put on an earband with cat ears and drew whiskers on your face, calling it a day to get back to work. You just sheepishly agreed with him before you saw him get to work on your usual drink.

“What shows did Tenna have planned again? Do you remember, luv?”

You forgot yourself. You remembered maybe one or two titles, but you only knew your outfits were for ‘the camp movie’ or ‘the animation movie’ and other vague names you gave them. So you just told him you did not, and he shrugged it off, “That’s alright. I’m sure I’ll overhear later…”

He finished making your drink, but he didn’t hand you it, instead he bit onto one side of the glass, teeth latching on to hold it in place as his mouth closed. He leaned over the counter to hand over your drink that way. You had an amused smile but also confusion in your eyes as you held onto the glass, Ramb opening his mouth to let go of the drink.

You gave a sip of your drink before you asked him why he had done that, and he had a mischievous grin on his face as he told you, “Don’t you know that the night is young, luv? And I’m quite hungry… But I must hold back, so I let out my urges with my powerful bite. Good workaround, innit?”

You had zero clue what he was talking about. You assumed he was trying to pretend to be a vampire, hungering for blood, but nobody here had anything like that… But you just agreed with him to humor him, even if his logic didn’t make much sense, but then told him if he ever got too hungry, you’d be happy to help, pointing at your neck with your free hand.

A small blush appeared on his face, but he seemed to be ignoring that as he told you, “No need, luv. But the offer is appreciated.”

You only lightly chuckled as you sipped from your drink again, starting up the small talk as you usually did with a new rant about the stress you had just experienced, Ramb listening intently like always.

Chapter 14: Weather Change

Summary:

Male Swatchling reader & Ramb, platonic.

Old friends meet again, almost like they hadn’t not seen each other for years.

Chapter Text

After maybe a week or two, you had finally accomplished your goal. You had made it to TV World.

It really shouldn’t have taken you so long, you had been stockpiling gifts for years to take and it only took you a day to sneak out of Queen’s Manor and another to sneak out of Cyber World. You just hadn’t expected that the trek to TV World would be so long, but it didn’t matter now as you stepped into the large building that housed Ramb.

You shouldn’t have been seeing that your species usually isn’t affected by the cold, but you were relieved that the building was much warmer than the snowy outside, taking your time to dust yourself off at the door of any remaining snow or dust on your suit.

A figure made entirely of shadow noticed you, seeming like they were questioning you but you couldn’t understand the musical notes coming out of them, only politely nodding before you asked if they knew a plugboy by the name of Ramb.

The Shadowguy paused, before they gave a silent nod. And so you told them you were only paying a visit to the studio for him, asking them if they could help guide you to where he is. The Shadowguy glanced around, but nobody else was there to help them with the rules of visitors, so they gave a shrug and a noise as they nodded.

You thanked them with a bow of your head before they took charge, you following behind closely as the two of you made it through hallways littered with decorations of a TV, you assumed the host of the show this studio produced (you never really watched yourself however, didn’t have the interest nor ever the time). You noticed the few people populating the halls, noticing that nobody dared to look at you and just went on with their business. Perhaps it was because you were so large and intimidating, or they assumed you were allowed in the premises, or they just didn’t care in the slightest who you were and why you were there.

It didn’t matter however as the shadow finally let you into a room different from the bright hallways with many decorations adorning them. This room was even a different color, green, and barely had any decorations besides some couches, TVs, a vending machine, some cactuses and… You then noticed the banner above what looked to be a stand that read ‘Ramb’s’ as the Shadowguy let go of your hand, letting out some notes as he pointed towards the stand.

You bowed to him, giving him a quiet thank you as he nodded before he ran off to leave you alone to do what you needed to. In your excitement, you quickly ran right up to the stand, Ramb seeming surprised to see someone so excited to come see him before he looked up and you saw a smile you were familiar with.

“Chum… You actually came after so long?”

You took a large and exaggerated bow as you gave him a hello, still putting on the polite act even though you were visibly excited with the slight shake going throughout your entire body. Then you took out from your inventory a bottle you knew Ramb was going to appreciate, presenting it to him immediately.

He took it from your hands, not even questioning where you had been and instead asking, “So what’s this, luv?”

You informed him it was an exotic drink since you remembered he used to sell and collect them all the time, one you had snuck into the Queen’s manor. You couldn’t remember the exact name, but you think it was close to ‘Angel’s Delight.’ Ramb’s eyes lit up with a spark behind them at the mention of the name before he put away the bottle gently into the collection of bottles to his side.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve heard that name… I really can’t believe you got me it, luv. I don’t even have a gift for you…”

You told him it was fine, you were making it up to him for not visiting him for years with your gifts, Ramb perking up at the mention of the possibility of getting more than that rare drink. “Are you sure that I can’t do anything to thank you for this, luv?”

You told him only his company was needed and he smiled as he asked you, “Well then, catch me up while you’re here, luv. What’s been happening with the Queen?”

You began to tell Ramb what exactly he had missed since his years of leaving as you grabbed your next gift, happy to finally see that he was doing well after everything and preparing yourself to be at that stand for a long while to finally catch up after so long. You hoped his boss and clients wouldn’t mind if the two of you took days just to talk with each other.

Chapter 15: Familiarity

Summary:

Gender neutral Pippins reader & Ramb, platonic. (Though can be romantic if you choose to see it that way.)

A Pippins meets Ramb for the very first time.

Notes:

Okay, this one's a little weird because there was no prompt that inspired this one. I was originally writing for one of the prompts, but lost track of what I was writing and decided to just publish this on its own and create a more original one-shot for the prompt I was supposed to be working on. I hope this is enjoyable anyways!!!

Chapter Text

“How have you been holding up, luv?”

You hadn’t arrived too long ago, you think perhaps two weeks in lightner terms. The Dreemur family brought you in with five other dice to replace ones they had lost, and you were the first to be lost of the newbies, the family not even bothering to find you since they had five others to use.

Luckily you had landed somewhere behind the TV, ending up in Mr. Tenna’s TV World, being assigned background work like most of the other Pippinses.

You had adapted fine, blended in well with the crowd of Pippinses, befriended some of them too, got along well enough with the Shadowmen. You even managed to not get into trouble with Tenna nor any Zappers so far, an impressive feat for your species.

Everything was going well for you.

However, you had decided to pay the one place a visit you hadn’t yet; Ramb’s stand.

It’s not like you had anything against the guy, despite some of the nastier rumors you heard whispered about him, you just hadn’t yet thought any of your free time was worthy of visiting him until you had run out of places to explore and familiarize yourself with. But now, with some points still left over in your pockets, you decided at least one visit wouldn’t hurt, especially if you could get a drink out of it.

But ignoring all of that, you answered his question, telling him exactly how you were feeling at the very moment, seeing that he was staring intently at you, not really moving as if he were hyperfocused on your words.

Once you were finished, he responded with, “Well, ain’t that something, innit?”

You just gave a nod, not really wanting to bother with any more small talk since you had no topics in mind, instead asking him what your drink options were.

“Well, luv, I have some pops, some drinks that’ll give you a buzz, some battery acid, some mild poisons if that’s your taste, some fruits… Really, luv, anything you can imagine, I can make.”

You thought for a moment before you just asked him to surprise you, wanting to see his skills for yourself, before asking him how many points it would cost.

“Oh, luv, Tenna doesn’t allow me to handle the points. But I do appreciate the gesture,” He told you as he started work on the drink.

Oh, yes. You forgot that nobody but Tenna and that Mike guy could legally handle the points… You then just watched as he made your drink, patient, before he handed you a mug made to hold beer with something that looked like an orange electrolyte infested drink inside.

“Just something to boost your mood, luv. I know the work is heavy sometimes and Tenna isn’t very lenient on blokes like yourself.”

You sloshed the drink around in its mug for a second before you gave a sip, tasting a cream soda with a strange aftertaste of oranges, colder than you expected too like there was ice chilling it despite you not seeing any resting in the liquid.

“How is it, luv?”

You gave him a mere thumbs up which seemed to twist that smile on his face even higher at the compliment.

“Glad it’s to your tastes.”

He merely just watched as you guzzled the rest down, wiping your mouth off with your wrist, before you asked him if it’d be alright to order another beverage. You were thirstier than you had previously thought.

He gave a tiny chuckle, nodding, “Yes, luv, I could make drinks for you all day if you wished.”

You told him it wasn’t necessary, but that you were thinking of visiting more often if all of his drinks were as good as the one you just had. You could see a spark in his eyes, lighting them up even for a second.

“I’ll be glad to host you, luv. Come by anytime.”

You smiled, confirming you would as he continued to mix your second drink.

Chapter 16: Come Again Another Day

Summary:

Male Cookie Cutter (Cooclys) darkner reader & Ramb, platonic.

A reminder of home is provided to a lonely cookie cutter by his lovely new friend.

Notes:

Two things to note;
There is an original species here, and one not actually requested haha, but I think it's a little obvious here what this darkner is and what it does (can easily bend its body into different shapes, can't speak, is obviously a cookie cutter).
Though the description says this is a male reader, you can't tell the gender here.

Chapter Text

You had only made one new friend since your accidental arrival to this world, barely having had any in the first place since first moving here due to the rare few who ever got lost from your home. You had just been one of the unlucky few to have been forgotten behind.

It’s a good thing nobody could even tell you cared about that though, the festive home having taught you the best acting skills any darkner could hope for. And it was even better that nobody ever brought the topic up to you, like it was normal for you to not be here one day and then here the next.

Regardless, the metal that made up you was creaking as you waddled your way to the ball machine, putting in all the points you had to get the best possible item you could. Your efforts of stocking your points had been worth it, obtaining yourself one of the gold prizes; the Tenna Tie.

You were satisfied, making your way out of the rank rooms now as you made your way to that new friend, hiding the item away as he greeted you, “Howse life been treating you, luv?”

You were happy to just be treated normally after your long day, lowering your guard so you could honestly tell him everything you’ve been feeling lately (and by tell, you actually mean transforming into silhouettes of what you wanted to say).

Adjusting has been harder than anyone ever mentions, especially since everything inside is much warmer compared to your old home. And with everyone treating you like a spectacle due to your species being one of a kind here, it’s hard to feel like you exist beyond work and being eye candy. Not to mention the fact that you can barely find anyone around from the Holidays.

Ramb listened (watch would be a better descriptor though) to everything you said, just letting you air out your thoughts, before you started to go into the complexities of your feelings for the Holidays themselves.

You knew that they didn’t know you were alive, at the end of the day you were just an object like everyone else here, but they didn’t even try to find you once you were lost, allowing you to fester under that damn TV that was now your boss. Not even the Dreemurs cared to find you, at the end of the day you were disposable. You didn’t understand why the other Holiday darkners missed them so much when they allowed you all to be left behind without a care in the world.

You suddenly felt a petting on the top of your round head, right between your antlers, gentle, snapping you out of your ranting.

“Sounds like things have been rough, innit?”

You only gave a nod.

“Well, luv, I think soon enough you’ll fit in. Everybody gets used to us after a rotation or two, including yourself. Just take your time, alright?”

You agreed you would, appreciating the advice.

“Do you want to take a walk? Seems you’re missing home.”

If you could, you would’ve sighed, but you knew it was hard to pick up on your pictures sometimes. Besides, Ramb was doing his best, better than anyone else was at understanding you, so you just gave another nod. Perhaps he was even right, you didn’t know, he was right about other things you hadn’t even considered before after all.

“Great, luv, let me just get by real quick.”

You didn’t expect him to climb over the counter after saying that however. Usually he’d just walk through the S rank room to get to the other side, but you did enjoy how much quicker this was, moving out of the way to let him land on his feet.

“I’m sure no one will mind if I take my break early.”

You let out chime-like sounds to show your agreement, Ramb chuckling before he grabbed the outline of what was supposed to be the end of your arm, starting to lead you outside and past any puzzles and guards on the way without any trouble on your end (though you did feel a bit guilty he had to do it all by himself).

Once you were both outside, your head turned into a heart without you even thinking of it, just overwhelmingly happy to see something that did remind you of where you truly belonged. You immediately ran away from Ramb to hop onto the snow, finding yourself slipping into a small heap of it and forming your own snow angel, exactly in your outline.

You stayed there, quietly absorbing the cold before you saw Ramb walk into your field of view, smiling down at you.

“Enjoying yourself, luv?”

You let out more chimes to tell him you were, body even slightly shaking in place from how happy you were to just be back in some kind of snowy wonderland.

“I knew you would,” He chuckled before he slowly laid down right next to you, creating his own snow angel. As he did so, you remembered your little gift, quickly pulling it out before you threw it onto him, seeing it land on his chest.

He looked surprised, holding it up to see it was a tie, “Is this for me, luv?”

More chiming.

“You really got this just for me, luv? So many points… Thank you, luv,” He put it on, making sure it stood out proudly, “How can I ever make it up to you?”

You thought for a second before you put your hands together, shaking them like one might for a handshake. A mere promise that the two of you will stay friends despite whatever happens.

“Is that really all, luv? Then I’ll try to be the very best chum I can be.”

More chimes came from you, to show you were just happy with that. Then you quickly hopped up, seeing your snow angel. It was a bit of a mess since you had not only shifted your head, but had moved a lot from your excitement. But you didn’t care, just happy to put your imprint even if you knew it wouldn’t last long. Another con of this world…

Then you saw the one Ramb had made once he decided to get up as well, the both of you happy to see a small token of your friendship.

“It’s nice out here, luv. I haven’t been out in too long… Thanks for giving me the opportunity, even though I was the one to bring up the idea,” He chuckled.

You let out a grinding noise to show your own chuckle.

“I should probably head back to work now… But I wouldn’t mind a snowball slung or two if that was alright with you?” He winked.

Your metal shined to show you were most definitely ready for his challenge of a snowball fight, not minding a few more minutes out in the lovely cold either.

Chapter 17: The Night Is Still Young

Summary:

Male Pippins reader & Ramb, familial (reader is Ramb’s adopted son).

To celebrate the weather duo’s anniversary, a karaoke night is held, Ramb and his son being specially invited.

Notes:

Warnings;
- Abuse implication (in one song).
- Blood mention (in one song).
- Religious imagery (in one song).
- Alcohol mention.

I would advise to listen to each song as they come up since the lyrics are essentially copy-pasted for this fic, but do what you want. The ending notes will provide a song list with youtube links for each song to make it easier if you do decide to listen to each one though.

Chapter Text

The shows were finally over for the day, at least the ones that took up most of the employees’ time, now the night crew swooped in to take the day crew’s job as they finally got their break, you included.

You were slightly tired but still smiled as you entered the Green Room, waving to Ramb as you walked over to his stand, but before either of you could greet each other, the same doors you had entered through busted open. Elnina and Lanino excitedly hurried over to the stand, standing right beside you.

Neither noticed you however as they instead asked Ramb at the same time, “Do you know what today is?”

Ramb smiled, though you yourself were confused before you heard him say, “How could I forget, chums? The day your love kindled, what a special day indeed. Here, chums,” He pulled out a gift box from somewhere out of sight, setting it on the counter, “Got it just for you,” He patted the side of it like one might a dog.

Elnina grabbed it, smiling as she shook it, all of you hearing the clinking of glass. She then looked embarrassed, hoping she didn’t break whatever fragile thing must have been inside. Lanino then stole it from her, opening up the box himself as they both peered inside to see a wine bottle which Elnina pulled out to inspect further.

This wine bottle wasn’t just any normal wine bottle however, it had a special label created by Ramb himself, tiny drawings of the couple’s faces sketched on (very blocky, you noticed) as the text labelled the wine ‘Jouer Les Rabat-joies.’

The two were ecstatic, Elnina holding it up as if proud to own it, asking Ramb, “Where’d you get this!?”

“We’ve been looking for this brand for so long!” Lanino exclaimed.

Ramb chuckled, “Secrets, luvs, secrets… Just appreciate it for me, alright?”

They both nodded before Elnina rubbed her cheek against the bottle, “I can’t wait to taste it again after so long…”

“Thank you, Ramb, really! Just wait until your birthday comes around, we’ll get you the best gift,” Lanino promised while Elnina was enamored with the bottle.

Ramb just smiled, “I know you chums will.”

You felt a bit awkward being there, just silently watching all of this, but before you could leave until the duo left, you perked up at hearing Lanino mention, “We actually have something we wanted to ask from you though…”

And before Ramb could respond, Elnina interrupted happily, “We wanted to do karaoke!!” She shook the wine in her excitement.

Both you and Ramb seemed surprised, the same expression most likely on your faces, before Ramb said, “Karaoke? It’s been a while since we’ve done that.”

“We know… Buttt, it’s been years, Ramb! Don’t you miss when we all sang together?” Elnina reminisced, Lanino nodding, “And we have hours too since it’s our break. C’mon, it’ll be fun to get together again!”

Ramb pondered before he gave a nod, “Alright, I’ll indulge you blokes. It is your day after all…” He then walked away, Elnina hiding away the bottle somewhere safe in his stand to grab later as he did so. The sound of him rummaging through his items resounded for the three of you to hear before he came back into view with a box labeled ‘Singing Night.’ He placed it on the counter, opening it and searching before he pulled out a karaoke machine and held it out towards Lanino, “Why don’t you go find a screen and set this ol’ thing up, ey?”

“Of course!” Lanino took the machine before the duo giggled as they walked towards the other side of the room to set it up, leaving you and Ramb alone finally.

You had never heard of a karaoke night here before, probably before your time as evident from the conversation, but you noticed Ramb’s eyes on you, forcing you to look at him curiously.

“Why don’t you be a good lad and help me decorate, chap?” He asked, “It’d be fun to have you here with us.”

You finally smiled, agreeing to help your old man who chuckled at your kindness, “Thank you, chap. I knew I could count on you.”

Elnina and Lanino were currently checking the microphones as you and Ramb had finished decorating.

The room was dimly lit through special spotlights lining the corners of the room, providing pink and purple lights, shining upon the streamers hanging around the room, just tiny ones one might find at a birthday party. A banner hung above the screen Elnina and Lanino had picked out right next to the green couch reading ‘Karaoke’ in large pink letters. Can’t forget to mention the tables the two of you had dragged in, aligned with trays of drinks Ramb had made and snacks you had picked out.

You were proud of your work, even if it wasn’t the most dazzling room you’ve ever gotten to decorate, it was still enough to set the mood thanks to your combined efforts. You smiled before you felt Ramb pet your head, making you chuckle.

“Thanks for the hard work, chap. The room looks lovely.”

You thanked him for his work too, which made him smile in return, finally stopping his petting as he approached the couple, “Is it working, luvs?”

Lanino gave a thumbs up as Elnina responded using the microphone, loud and clear, “Still works after all these years!”

Ramb laughed, “Splendid!” He clapped, “Well, you two should go first. Since it’s your day and all, innit?”

They nodded, the two crowding the machine together as they picked their song, Ramb sitting down on the couch close to them as you joined right next to him, the both of you watching as Elnina and Lanino quietly bickered on which song to pick, the microphone picking up on it a bit.

“Oh, this is a good one!” Elnina finally exclaimed, microphone peaking the slightest bit from her volume.

“I wouldn’t mind singing it,” Lanino agreed, clicking on the song as he took up the other microphone, the two standing beside the screen and facing it as they readied themselves.

Since they were standing beside it however, it gave Ramb and you a view of the screen yourselves, seeing it read, “(Duo) Another Day of Sun - Benj Pasek+Justin Hurwitz+Justin Noble Paul.”

A countdown from 5 then began to show, Elnina coughing into the microphone to clear her throat and Lanino inhaling sharply.

Once the countdown was over, piano filled the speakers, Elnina and Lanino both tapping their beat to the rhythm, allowing the instrumental to play before the lyrics started to fade into the screen, Lanino now holding the microphone close to his mouth.

I think about that day,

He began, you surprised that he was the one singing this part but it didn’t matter at all, you just listened intently as he continued, leaning forward a bit in your seat to do so.

I left him at a Greyhound station, West of Santa Fe.

We were 17, but he was sweet and it was true.

Still, I did what I had to do~,

‘Cause I- just knew-,

You saw him tapping his foot while Elnina just lightly clapped along with the beat to encourage him to keep going.

Summer Sunday Nights, we’d sink into our seats, right as they dimmed out all the lights.

The technicolor world~!

Made out of music and machine,

It called me to be on~ that screen~!

And live inside its sheen.

Elnina finally began to sing with him, microphone closer and making her just the tiniest bit louder than him.

Without a nickel to my name,

Hopped a bus, here I came.

The two faced each other, words almost memorized as they looked at each other with warm smiles as they sang together.

Could be brave or just insane.

We’ll have to see!

‘Cause maybe in this sleepy town, he’ll sit one day, the lights are down,

He’ll see my face and think of how he used to know me~.

Seems the noise from the machine was loud enough to attract others to come in and watch however, Shadowmen and Pippinses starting to sneak in and stand or sit around the two currently performing. Some of the Shadowmen even started to join in with Elnina and Lanino, mimicking the lyrics with their saxophone noises during the chorus.

Behind! These! Hills~! I’m reaching for the heights,

And chasing all the lights, that shine~! (The lights that shine~!)

You noticed some of the other Pippinses joined in as well, just to be the backup vocals, clapping starting around the room. You laughed before you joined in as well, Ramb merely just watching in amusement.

And when they let you down, (It’s another day!)

You’ll get up off the ground! (It’s another day!)

As the morning rolls around, and it’s another day of sun~!

I hear them everyday,

Elnina began to sing her solo finally, the clapping and back-up singing stopping to allow her room to shine.

The rhythms in the canyons, that’ll never fade away.

The ballads in the ballrooms-,

Left by those who came before.

They say we got to want it more~!
So I bang on every door.

And even when the answer’s no-, or when my money’s runnin’ low-,

The disc and mic and neon glow!
Are all I need~.

And some day as I sing the song, a small-town kid will come along.

That’ll be the thing to push him on~,

And he’ll go~,

Everyone joined in to sing along this time, clapping ensuing and some even dancing whether alone or with others, everyone clearly happy, including yourself.

Behind these hills, I’m reaching for the heights,

And chasing all the lights, that shine~! (The lights that shine!)

And when they let you down~, (It’s another day!)

You’ll get up off the ground~! (It’s just another day!)

As morning rolls around, and it’s another day of sun~!

The instrumental break came on, everyone catching their breaths before high pitched notes of joy and giggles resounded through the room, the couple of the hour even sharing a quick peck.

You glanced at Ramb who seemed the happiest he had been in quite some time, clapping as he sat back, making your mood even better as you decided to watch to see if he’d try singing along with everyone else now.

When they let you down…

Everyone began to quiet down, allowing Lanino to sing, more quieter to set the mood as well.

The morning rolls around…

Then the room lit up once more.

It’s another day of sun!

And instead of the oh-ing in the backgrounds, the Shadowmen filled that role in themselves with their saxophones.

You caught Ramb’s mouth moving, clearly showing he was singing along even if you couldn’t hear him amidst the other voices. But you didn’t mind, now singing along as well with that knowledge, looking back to the couple.

It’s another day of sun!

It’s another day of sun, sun, sun, sun, sun~!

It’s another day of- sun!

It’s another day of sun!

Just another day of sun!

The day has just begun!

It’s another day of sun-!

The instrumental played again, everyone preparing themselves before the final lyrics appeared on screen.

It’s another day of sun!

Cheers, claps, tapping of feet and delighted saxes filled the room in celebration of the song being over, Elnina and Lanino sharing a deeper kiss of happiness before they bowed in front of everyone, whistles being added to the celebration now and even a rose somehow flying from somewhere to land at the couples’ feet, Lanino picking it up before handing it to Elnina who giggled.

“Thank you all!” Lanino spoke into the microphone, “Now who wants to go next?”

A small group of 5 Shadowmen quickly came up before anyone else even had the chance, their supposed leader taking the microphones before handing another one of them the other microphone, all five crowding around the machine as they looked for their song.

You looked at Ramb who looked back at you, warm smile on his face, “Wasn’t that just exhilarating, chap?”

You agreed with him, laughing from all the joy you felt as Ramb chuckled in response.

“Oh, I can’t wait to see what everyone wants to sing tonight,” He clapped.

You asked him what he was thinking of singing, only receiving a shrug and, “Only time will tell, chap,” Then he asked in return, “And what’re you gonna sing?”

You told him it was a surprise and he just chuckled before both of your attentions were caught by the Shadowmen coughing into the microphone, their song picked, “(Duo) A Fine Romance - Jerome Kern, cover by Louis Armstrong+Ella Fitzgerald."

Once the countdown was over and everyone was paying attention, 3 of the Shadowmen (the ones without the microphones) began to hum with the instrumental to provide extra acoustic, while one of the Shadowmen holding a microphone began to sing the lyrics of the song only using their saxophone noises, creating a soothing background as the two Shadowmen sang the song back and forth using their smooth ‘voices.’

Everybody relaxed, though some of the Shadowmen hummed along in the background or tapped their beat to the song.

Well, that was until the lyric, “You're calmer than the seals in the Arctic Ocean,” came on screen and a certain important somebody came hopping in, speaking loudly, “Now jus’ what’s goin’ on in ‘ere now, huh?”

Everybody besides the singing Shadowmen froze, now looking at the Mike who had walked into the room, the cowboy hat wearing one they all noticed.

The song continued as Mike asked the entire room, “I don’t think Mr. Tenna allowed dis, did he?”

Some looked at each other nervously, nobody knowing what to say before you courageously spoke up, telling them that he did allow it.

“Did he? I don’t ‘member dat…”

Others chimed in now, telling them they must be misremembering or misread the schedule, and that everyone here got explicit permission from him to host this event.

“Really? Well, I guess I could jus’ go ask ‘im myself.”

Everyone panicked, so you stepped up once more when the song was beginning to end, stealing one of the microphones from the Shadowmen currently not singing, ignoring their cry of anger as you went before Mike, holding it out towards them as you asked them to sing.

“Me, sing? Really?”

Everybody agreed, cheering them on to try, wanting to distract them.

A blush lined their face as one of their hands rubbed the back of their head, “Wells… A’ight, jus’ one song can’t hurt.”

Cheers all around as they hobbled towards the machine, you sighing from your plan working as you sat back down in your seat, Ramb patting your back, “Good job, chap.”

You thanked him before everyone glanced at the screen once Mike was standing properly upright and straight, seeing it read, “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’ - Charley Pride.”

Once the countdown was over, a piano began to play, everyone settling in to hear this as the instrumental set in, Mike readying themselves with an almost silent inhale.

Whenever I’ve chance ta meet,

Some ol’ friends on da street,

Dey wondah howse does a man get ta be dis way.

Some people started to quietly and slowly clap along to make them feel a bit better, yourself included.

I’ve always got a smilin’ face,

Any time an’ any place.

An’ any time dey ask me why, I jus’ smile an’ say~…

You’ve gotta- kiss an angel good mornin’,

An’ let ‘er know ya’ think ‘bout her when y'er gone.

Kiss an angel good mornin',

An’ love ‘er like da devil when ya’ get back home.

Well dey try ta guess,

Da secret a’ a happiness,

But some of thems nevah learn dat 's a simple thang~.

Da secret 'm speakin' of-,

‘S a woman an’ a man in love.

An’ da answer is in dis song dat I always sing~.

Still you've got ta-

 Kiss an angel good mornin',

An’ let ‘er know ya’ think ‘bout ‘er when y’er gone.

So kiss an angel good mornin',

An’ love ‘er like da devil when ya’ get back home.

Some of the Pippins started to sing with them now, not including yourself this round however.

Kiss an angel good mornin',

An’ let ‘er know ya’ think ‘bout ‘er when y’er gone.

So kiss an angel good mornin',

An’ love ‘er like da devil when ya’ gets back home~!

More claps and cheers as Mike blushed, microphone head shaking left and right to show they were happy, “Uhm, thank y’all. I suppose after dat, I can let dis slide… But I gotta get goin’. Have fun, and uh, happy love day ta Elnina an’ Lanino!”

Mike began to hop out of there, waving as they did so, Elnina and Lanino yelling their thanks before they left, the machine empty as people began to chatter about their relief.

You saw this as an opportunity however, grabbing Ramb’s hand as he questioned you, “What is it, chap?”

You just smirked before you got up, tugging him to his feet before leading him over to the machine.

“You want to sing with me, luv?” He asked you as you both stood in front of it.

You nodded, smiling as you chose the song before grabbing the microphones, handing one to Ramb as the screen read, “(Duo) Electric Angel - Yasuo-P, cover by Kuraiinu+Will Stetson.”

Ramb just chuckled nervously as the countdown began, but you shot him a confident smile and a thumbs-up before the 8-bit intro started, feeling everyone’s eyes on you.

You decided to take the lead, seeing that Ramb was probably still a bit nervous.

Singing so bright, is what makes me feel alive.

It’s the life I decide, as I run and belt throughout the night.

Right by your side, you had said ever so kind,

It’s your voice that is guiding me, and gives me peace of mind!

0 up to 1 is all that I’m dreaming of,

But you showed me a world-beyond the stars that I can touch!

From that day, evermore, I felt my heart so brightly beating,

You glanced at Ramb, signaling to him to get ready as he sighed, putting on a smile as he did so.

Bursting with this lovy-duvy feeling~ now-,

All I need to survive is to be right by your side,

Ramb began to sing with you, and though he didn’t sound the best, you didn’t mind, just happy to hear him sing along with you.

It’s the pulse through the night that sets my heart alight.

Can’t believe, even me, could laugh on so easily,

As I’m taken by the beat in the quantum breeze.

The instrumental break played and you squealed, Ramb just giving you a smile as he seemed to be feeling better about this seeing that you were so happy. Then you tapped him on the shoulder once you knew the break was ending, forcing him to pay attention as it was his turn to sing solo, hands trembling slightly you noticed.

All that I know ‘s I hate being alone,

‘Cause wherever I go, there’s the fear I’ll end up on my own-so-,

You noticed the trembles in his voice as well, so you held his free hand, giving it a squeeze to give him some confidence which seemed to help steady him.

Right by yo’re side, take my hand and hold it tight,

‘Cause ’s you that’s guidin’ me, and gives me peace of mind.

When ’m all alone, ‘m jus’ nuffin but a joke,

Yet you gave me yo’re song and let me sing it even so.

From that day, evermore, I felt my heart so brightly beatin’,

Burstin’ with this luvy-duvy feelin’~ now.

All I need to survive is to be right by your side,

It’s the pulse through the night that sets my heart alight.

Can’t believe, even me, could laugh on so easily,

As I’m taken by the beat in the quantum breeze.

You hummed to the instrumental break, imitating the broken vocals that usually would be there as Ramb hyped himself up for what was to come next.

The break was longer than you thought however, starting to dance in place a bit as you waited patiently.

All I need to-

You had gotten a bit too caught up in your dancing, quickly joining in.

-survive is to be right by your side.

It’s the pulse through the night that sets my heart alight.

Can’t believe, even me, could laugh on so easily~,

Like an angel in the sky flyin’ high and free.

All I need to survive is to be right by your side.

It’s the pulse through the night that sets my heart alight.

Can’t believe, even me, could laugh on so easily,

As I’m taken by the beat in the quantum breeze~.

The final notes of the song began, you dancing your little heart out as they played while Ramb caught his breath, looking happy however.

And when the song ended, you gave him a hug, holding him close as you giggled and people cheered and clapped. Ramb chuckled with you, a slight blush on his face from feeling so appreciated despite his mediocre singing skills.

When you stopped hugging him, you put away your own microphone but questioned why he wasn’t putting his own away.

“I want to sing this one on my own, chap. Just go sit for me, alright? Warm up my seat,” He smiled.

You did as he said, sitting back down where he had originally, watching the screen before he picked his choice, people not noticing this time as the screen read, “Glass Beach - Glass Beach.”

The countdown ticked down, Ramb visibly taking deep breaths as he calmed himself. When the countdown was over, the ethereal beginning sounds caught people’s attention, the room quieting as the guitar began to play.

I promise that yo’re not wastin’,

You noticed Ramb’s accent came in a little thicker due to him putting more effort into his vocals, trying to be raw and vulnerable.

Anybody’s taime.

An’ all tha’ things they told ya’-, are so God damn ruff, I~ und’rstand~.

His voice dropped deeper with that last word, surprising you from how much emotion he was putting into this. Some people began to clap as the small instrumental break played before stopping once Ramb began to sing again.

They said yo’re friends will hurt ya’,

An’ yo’re friends don’t really caire.

Ya’ told me yo’re their daughtah, an’ they treat ya’ t’is way jus’ too keep ya’ safe.

So please listen closeleh, I love ya’ dearleh~,

It hurts too see ya’ so torn a-part like- t’is.

Anothah sleepless night, too lauff ‘bout tha’ taimes we tried too die.

Wit’~ hea~vy eayes, I’ll stay awake wit’ ya’~!

An’ we’ll keep~ us a~live, ‘til the mornin’~ comes-.

In- ‘ERE~!

He began to get loud, yelling with all his might, you just amazed at his performance like everyone else probably was.

YOU’LL BE OKAY~!

AN’ WHEN YO’RE HEART BREAK~S,

I’LL BE BESIDE~ YOU~!

SO, PLEASE~,

STAY ‘ERE-WIT’ ME~!
BREATHE IN LIKE, WAIVES~,

ON A GLASS~ BEA~CH!

Ramb panted heavily, coughing in between the small break, before he continued.

I~

STOPPED-TAKIN’-CALLS-FER-THE-FIRST-TAIME-THEN-CUT-OFF-MY-PHONE-LINE,

AN’ TOAK THE HIGH~WAY, ONE FER NOWHER’-SOUTH,
WHEN YUKI SAID~ I SHOULD JUS’ CALL UP FAM’LEY,

AN’ TELL~ ‘EM~ HOW I FELT-.

NO~ONE WHO LOVES YA’ SHOULD~ MAKE- YA’ FEEL SO UNSAFE,
NO~,
NO-ONE~ WHO LOVES YA’, SHOULD MAKE YA’ FEEL A-LONE~, AN’-

He coughed, throat obviously hurting, but he forced himself to continue, worrying you and everyone else slightly.

-YOU’LL BE OKAY~!

AN’ WHEN YO’RE HEART BREAK~S,

I’LL BE BESIDE~ YOU~!

SO, PLEASE~,

STAY ‘ERE-WIT’ ME~!
BREATHE IN LIKE, WAIVES~,

ON A GLASS~ BEA~CH!

The instrumental came in again and Ramb panted as tears started to streak down his face, but he didn’t seem to care, just determined to finish the song as he wiped away what he could. You didn’t know whether his tears were from the pain his throat must’ve been in or the song’s meaning.

You wanted to go up there, comfort him somehow, but instead just let yourself wait for when he was done, letting him finish up his turn at least.

BLOOD~ IN~, YO’RE VAINES,
BLOOD ON, YO’RE HANDS!-

SO-STOP IT, YO’RE FACKIN’-HURTIN’-’ER!

Can we~ fer~get ‘bout, tha’ places that we~ should~ be~...

He began to sing much more softly, almost like a whisper now.

We~ don’t haf’ta go home~ , toodae.

I’ll~ sleep, on-a million couches,

If we haf’ta, too keep~ us both safe.

His voice then started to rise in volume slowly.

‘Til~ we~ can take- back~,

The-years they’ve stolen~ fro’ us,

We’ll~ al~ways~ live~ like, we’re, hopeless~, kids~!

Then he went back to being soft-spoken.

But! When~,

We’re wit’ all ar’ friends,

Can we jus’ pretend~,

That no one can hurt~ us~!

‘Cause-

Now he was yelling as quietly as he could.

HEY~!

I-LOVE YA’, OKAY~?

‘S SO HARD TOO SAY~,

THAT-I-FACKIN’ NEED~ YA’~,

TOO~!

He let the instrumental scream for him now, hands trembling again, but not from fear this time, before he inhaled sharply.

TOO-NIGHT~,

WHEN-THEY CLOSE THEIR EAYES~,

LOOK UP TO THE SKY~,

AN’ CLIMB UP THE MOON~LIGHT.

‘S OURS~,

THE MOON AN’ THE STARS~.

THEY’LL FERGET WHO WE WERE~,

AN’ WE’LL BE TOOGET~HAH AGAINE!

His voice started to get hoarse now as he screamed out everything he had left inside of him, tears releasing once more.

SO JUS’ SLEEP~ ‘TIL, ‘TIL THE SUN SETS~!

SO GO TO SLEEP~, ‘TIL, THE SUN,

SETS!!!

He screamed as loud as he could with that last word, panting heavily and letting silent sobs leave him as he put away the microphone, looking to everyone with a nervous frown at the silence after his performance.

You were the first to begin clapping, others soon following your example before the room erupted in cheers and applause, Ramb shakily smiling as the song reached its end.

When it was finally over, he sat back down next to you, someone else going up to sing as he let himself relax, sinking into the couch. It was your turn to pat his head, congratulating him on his performance, you really didn’t know he had it in him.

He couldn’t speak, only giving a silent knowing stare before he wiped away his tears. Perhaps another time you’d ask him why he had put his all into that specific song, but for now you asked if he was okay and if he wanted a drink to which he nodded to answer both questions.

So you quickly got up, getting him one of the glasses of water just sitting out, actually two now that you thought about it, before you sat back down and handed them both to him, not commenting on how his hands tremored ever so slightly as he gulped down both glasses.

Once he set them down somewhere, he quickly hugged you, quietly telling you, “This has been fun, chap… Thanks for doing this with me…”

You just smiled, hugging him back as another song started up.

AN; You might be saying "Tomster these characters wouldn't choose these songs" or "Tomster, I would never pick that song to sing," and to that I say; yeah probably, but this is MY fic. Just imagine they're (or you're) singing the song you want them to instead or something.
