Hi! I am Odyssey. Where do I even begin?
I think I'll start by yapping about how this AU even started and then move onto the pieces of media themselves.
This AU started as a fun little thought experiment. At the time, I didn't have much to do so I did some reading. I found this book (The Count of Monte Cristo) one day through a YouTube video and decided to read the book. The plot seemed cool enough and I have been surprised by classical literature before. I got a copy of the book from a family member and began to read the book on my own time. I had a hard time putting the book down because it just did a great job at captivating my attention. The Plot, characters, setting all of it was amazing. I haven't really read a book like it. So, I did something for fun, I made an AU of it with my favorite anime, My Hero Academia.
My Hero Academia doesn't really need much of an introduction if you have been on the internet. The fandom has a really bad reputation that often times dissuades people from even giving the show a shot, but once you get past that you are in for a good time. It is not the best anime out there (at least to me) but the world and characters are fascinating. The story follows our protagonist Izuku Midoriya as he tries his hardest to become a hero in a world where superpowers and superheroes are the norm, and superheroes are even a profession. The anime is really fun, and it helped me get through one of the hardest times in my life. I highly recommend it.
Meanwhile The Count of Monte Cristo needs a bit more of an explanation. The Count of Monte Cristo is a story written by Alexandre Dumas. You may know him as the guy who wrote The Three Musketeers. The story was originally published in a French newspaper in 18 parts with the story later becoming a novel. The Count follows our protagonist Edmond Dantes, the local cinnamon roll in the town of Marseille. He has a loving fiancé, a loving dad and is about to become captain on the ship he works at. I can only describe what happens next without spoilers with this vine. '🎵And nothing can go wrong!🎵 Oh no it all went wrong.' In all seriousness, yeah- things go downhill for Edmond FAST. The story is a classic for a reason, the plot is great, and the characters are as well. The only thing that throws people off of this epic story is the length, most unabridged copies of The Count have pages counts ranging from 1200 to 1400. That's a lot. But if you are uncomfortable reading this book there are many other movies, books and even an anime of The Count's story.
But why would anyone ever make an AU with these two, they are so different. It's simple, I love both of them. Nearly every crossover AU that I have is just because I want to see this two worlds and characters that I love be fused into something amazing. Another reason is this specific AU is just very sentimental to me. This was the first AU I have ever shared with a friend. This AU has stayed with me for years; it went through a complete overhaul. Yet it's still here. As I have been writing the prologue many emotions have come up, I have prayed to God to help give me strength to write this.
What inspired me to even make this fic was that very same friend I shared this AU with. They have made a TMNT fic called Hamato's Forever, a ROTTMNT fic. They have made an amazing fic and if they can do it so can I. All I want to with this fic is hopefully inspire others to check out the things I love. It may not adhere to canon or have the soundest logic, but I hope it will at the very least be fun. I don't know if I will live long enough to finish this fic, but I hope I will.
