Chapter Text

"Hooo ho ho ho! Welcome, everyone, to the grandest racing experience to date: the CrossWorlds Grand Prix! My name is King Dodon Pa and I'll be hosting this extraordinary event! Many racers from across the world (and dimensions) will be participating in this event. These racers will be using these highly customizable machines and the extremely experimental gadget system to burn the racetrack to achieve the gold prize! What will this prize be? Who knows! Hoooo ho ho ho! Well, that's enough out of me! We hope you all have an amazing time in this grand competition! And to all racers, I expect great things from you!"

"Geez, he sure loves to hear himself talk. He almost rivals Eggman."

"Sonic, don't be rude... Even though I kind of agree. Heh heh."

"*Chuckles* RIght. Anyways, what the heck does Dodon Pa wants us to do again? Something about going to other dimensions to invite more racers?"

"You should really learn to pay attention more. But yes, that is what he wanted."

"Ha! And you said I need to learn. My ears never fail me."

"There he goes again..."

"Alright! Let's get this over with! I wanna get back and beat everyone in my cool as blue machine! Where to first?"

"According to Dodon Pa, the travel rings will guide us. Are you ready to go, Sonic?"

"I'm always ready! Let's get going!"

Chapter Text

SONIC: "Whoa. Everything is so...blocky. Hey bud, where the heck are we?"

TAILS: "According to the travel ring, it says we are in the world of Minecraft!"

The first world the dynamic duo has entered is the world of Minecraft, where everything and anything is possible. Their mission is to recruit a resident in North Village who goes by the name Steve. With their mission clear, Sonic and Tails set off to find this Steve. Unfortunately, what they found first is big trouble! 

"Help! HELP!"

The plea for help caught the duo's attention almost instantly. The source of the shouts came from a man running away from what appears to be a skeleton. Sonic, knowing what he does best, made quick work of the skeleton and rush over to check on the old man. "Hey, are you okay?", Sonic asked with concern. The man, still shaken, looks up to the blue hero and relaxes. "Thank you, kind sir.", the man responses, "I thought I was a goner! I should've known better than to go out at night." Tails then speaks up with a simple question. "Why?" The man looked at the fox like he was crazy but soon understood when he took a closer look at the pair. "You folks are not from around here, huh? In that case, heed this warning: never go out at night! At least not without placing torches around you! Dangerous monsters come out at night. Be careful." Sonic scoffs at the man's warning, nods regardless.

"By the way, do you know a guy name Steve around here? Apparently, he lives in the North Village."

The man lights up at Sonic's question. "Ah, Mr. Steve! He's the local hero around these parts. I can take you to him if you like!"

"Much appreciated! Thanks!"

The man guides the duo to the North Village, which was actually not that far from where they were. The village was filled with growing crops, waterfalls, and wooden houses. Despite its blocky appearance, Sonic and Tails found the sight beautiful. Sonic was even tempted to drop everything and explore to see what other areas are this beautiful, but thankfully, he resisted the urge. "Steve's house is that way. I pray that you both get along with him." And with those parting words, the man returns to his house in peace. Sonic and Tails made their way to the house, knocked on the door, and after a few minutes, they found their man. 

STEVE: "Whoa! A talking blue hedgehog and a yellow two-tail fox. I didn't eat anything weird today, did I?"

SONIC: (Sarcastically) "Didn't your parents tell you to be careful what berries you eat?"

TAILS: "A-Anyways, are you Steve? We're here to invite you to the CrossWorlds Grand Prix."

STEVE: "A racing competition? Hmmm..."

Just as Steve was contemplating on the invitation, a monstrous roar echos in the night sky, gaining everyone's attention. After a brief pause, chaos ensures. "OH GOD! IT'S THE ENDER DRAGON!" Both Sonic and Tails looks at each other in confusion. "Ender Dragon?" "It's a terrifying dark dragon that almost no one can defeat...", Steve explained, "...But I don't understand. It shouldn't have anyway to appear anywhere near the village! So how?" Tails has a suspicious idea on how, but to prevent any mistrust or misunderstandings, he kept his thoughts to himself. Sonic, like expected from the blue blur, reassures Steve that they're ready to help at any time. Steve, while somewhat doubtful of Sonic's abilities, was relieved of the offer. "Then let me grab my gear and we'll send that dragon back to the underworld!"

Sonic, Tails, and Steve located the Ender Dragon near a volcanic area. It seemed it was on its way to the South Village first before it'll begin its rampage on the others. "Alright tall, dark, and disgusting, let's see if you can keep up!" Sonic drew the dragon's attention while giving both Tails and Steve some time to build a weapon that can push the dragon away. Tails advised that a gigantic stun ray should be enough to make the dragon an easy target. Unfortunately, Steve explains that the world of Minecraft lacks such technology despite its massive pool of creative designs. Deep in thought, Tails thought of other ideas that could help defeat the Ender Dragon. A giant sling shot that could send a giant boulder at it could work, he thought, but would it be fast enough to hit it? Just as he was about to gamble on the idea, Tails soon saw sunlight slowly rising; An idea instantly hitting him. 

"Aha! A giant mirror!"

Steve raised an eyebrow. "A... giant mirror?"

"Trust me! I think this will work!"

Although there was doubt in his mind, Steve agreed to help Tails build the giant mirror. Steve grabbed all the materials he collected throughout his previous journeys to begin construction. Unfortunately, progress was slow, and it was pretty clear that the dragon grew tired of Sonic's antics. Anxiety in our heroes grew as the dragon became more and more restless.  They all knew that if they don't act fast, the world of Minecraft could be doom. But then, one key word popped into one of the hero's head: fast. "Yo Steve!", Sonic shouted, "Switch with me quick! I can build whatever you two are building in a flash!" Steve hesitated, but Tails reassured him that Sonic will do just fine. Steve thought about it for a moment and eventually nods in agreement. "Alright, but you better make it quick!" Sonic chuckled. "Let me put your doubts to rest supersonic style!"

The Ender Dragon's mighty roar echos in the skies, signaling Steve to move in quickly. Tails gave Sonic the instructions on how to build the mirror and, in a blink of an eye, Sonic finished the giant mirror almost instantly. Steve looked at the mirror and was caught off guard at how quickly it was made. This dangerous mistake, however, caused Steve to receive massive damage by the dragon, putting him on the verge of death. Just as things looked dire for the local hero, the sun finally rosed in the sky, putting Tails' plan in motion. "Hey creep!", Tails shouted, "Bring some sunglasses next time!" With the mirror adjusted at the right angle, a massive ray of light hits the dragon, causing it gravel in pain. Steve slowly got up and, with his diamond sword in hand, stabbed the dragon between its eyes, finally defeating the dragon for good. Thanks to their teamwork, the world was saved once again!

"I can't thank you guys enough for the help.", Steve said in relief, "You two aren't so bad after all." Both Sonic and Tails gave Steve a warm smile and a thumbs up in return. Sometime later, Steve managed to recover from his wounds via a few plates of steak (to which Sonic witnesses in disbelief) and agreed to join the Crossworld Grand Prix. 

STEVE: "By the way, mind if I bring Alex along? She's a good friend of mine and I'm sure she'll spice up the competition."

SONIC: "Fine by me! The more racers I beat, the bigger the bragging rights!"

STEVE: "You're something else, Sonic the Hedgehog. But I accept your challenge!"

TAILS: "Don't forget about me! I'm just as fast and smart too!"

STEVE: "Of course, little dude! I'll be back in a bit!"

 

Despite the trouble they went through, Sonic and Tails completed their mission in inviting Steve and Alex to Dodon Pa's racing tournament. The duo was introduced to Alex and made their way back home through the travel ring along with the new racers. Unbeknownst to the group, however, a certain creeper snuck their way into the competition as well.

Welcome to the Bikini Bottom, a sea bottom town famous for its sandy beaches, fast food restaurants, and shenanigans even Neptune himself can't quite explain. It is the home of Spongebob Squarepants, Sonic and Tails' next invitation target. Tails was concern about inviting a sea creature to a competition that mostly takes place outside of the ocean, but as Sonic reassured him, Dodon Pa will most likely find a way. He would not invite him if he didn't. Finding the yellow sponge looked tricky. The ocean is a big place after all. Fortunately, they didn't have to travel far (much to Sonic's disappointment) as they bumped into their man instantly. 

MR. KRABS: "Spongebob me boy! You're 0.5 seconds late! That's coming out of your paycheck!"

SPONGEBOB: "Sorry, Mr. Krabs... I was helping these guys find something to eat."

MR. KRABS: "Well you better have brought them to...the..."

SONIC: "...Yo. Got any chili dogs here?"

After bumping into Spongebob, Sonic and Tails invited him to the Crossworlds Grand Prix, to which he agrees but it will have to be after work. With their mission basically done, Sonic decided on getting something to eat. Fortunately, Spongebob works at a fastfood establishment and guided the pair to his workplace. Now, the Krusty Krab usually doesn't sell these chili dogs this blue hedgehog is going on about. But as the proud owner, Mr. Krabs would never let their customers leave disappointed. he will only disappoint those who only come in for a free glass of water, to which he eventually charges for the low price of $5. "Coming right up!", Mr. Krabs says with unusual confidence. 

Making a mad dash to the kitchen, Mr. Krabs grabs a fresh (totally not moldy) hotdog bun, some pippin' hot (definitely not cold, month old) chili, and combined the ingredients together into a magnificent chili dog! Satisfied with what was made, Mr. Krabs rushed back to Sonic and have him be amazed at such a delicious delicacy. Sonic was not amused. 

"I'll uhh...take one of those krabby patties you guys keep hyping up instead."

"...Of course! Heh heh heh! SPONGEBOB, GET THIS FINE COUPLE THEIR ORDER ON THE DOUBLE!"

"R-Right away, Mr. Krabs!"

It was then that Tails realized something. "Wait, did that guy just called us a couple?" Sonic ignored such a comment and sat patiently for his order. To his surprise, Spongebob came back with his order the moment he sat down. "Here you are my blue friend: two krabby patties and two shakes!" Sonic was impressed. He could tell that Spongebob is very experienced in this line of work. He was, however, not that impressed with the krabby patty. It was...just an ordinary hamburger to him. If this what counts as "famous" in these lands, Sonic can't begin to imagine what this town was eating before. Tails seems to be enjoying it though. After their meal, they waited outside for Spongebob to finish with his work. They WOULD'VE waited inside, but apparently, there was a "sitting down and do nothing" fee. Not even Eggman or Rouge was this greedy, Sonic thought to himself. 

"Ugh. I'm tired of waiting. I'm going to go for a run."

"You do know you're not supposed to, right?"

*Sighs*

A quick nap it is then. Of course, as if on cue, he felt that his little nap will have to wait. Coming out of the Krust Krab was...a moving burger? Sonic picked up the burger and... heard it talk?! "Put me down you oversized popsicle!" Looking under the burger, he sees what appears to be a small green bug. Was it a customer? If so, it was best to put him down and let him be on his way. "Aha!", Spongebob exclaimed with sweat covering his face, "I got you now Plankton!" Or maybe not, Sonic quietly thought to himself. "Friend of yours?", Sonic asks. "Nope. That's Plankton. He's always trying to steal our krabby patties so he can get the secret formula out of it." Sonic slowly turns to this Plankton guy and effortlessly sling him back to a building that looks like a bucket. "Whelp! Problem solved!", Sonic says proudly. Of course, the problem only begun.

Rising from the Chum Bucket was a giant robot Sonic and Tails knows all too well. It was the Death Egg Robot! "Eggman tech?!", Sonic exclaimed in both surprise and confusion, "How the heck did he get his hands on that?!" Coming out of the robot was Plankton's signature laugh. "I have no idea!", Plankton says, "But who cares?! This giant, ugly robot will be just enough to finally get my hands on the krabby patty secret formula! Muahahahah!" Mr. Krabs, wondering why it was suddenly getting dark, walks outside and sees the robot with a panic look on his face.

"DEAR NEPTUNE! Mr. Squidward, all hands on de-"

Mr. Krabs then sees Squidward snoring away with a sign besides him that says "Don't bother me. I'm on break."

"...Remind me to take that out of your paycheck, Mr. Squidward."

It seems a battle was unavoidable. Sonic, Tails, and even Spongebob prepare for battle as the menacing Death Egg Robot slowly marches towards them. Sonic fought this robot before, so he knew what to do next. Reving up his super peel out, Sonic gets ready to initiate the attack until... a random starfish appears? "Oh, hey Spongebob! I'm starving!" Spongebob looks ahead in shock. "Patrick, don't come any closer! That giant robot is right behind-" Suddenly, the Death Egg Robot, who was marching dangerously close to our heroes, tripped over Patrick and exploded after hitting the ground. The explosion was so great that it caused both the Chum Bucket and the Krusty Krab to receive damage from the blast radius. Sonic and Tails stares at this unbelievable display with a blank expression. Never in their lives did they expect a battle to end so...anticlimactically. 

"Curses!", Plankton shouts in rage, "The tech was state of the art! How can this be?!"

Sonic decided not to entertain another thought. Instead, he grabbed Plankton and threw in far far away.

"I'LL DESTROY ALL OF YOOOOOOoooouuu...!"

A few hours later, the Krusty Krab was rebuild to its former glory thanks to Sonic and Tails. Spongebob then told Mr. Krabs about the Crossworlds Grand Prix, hoping for Mr. Krabs approval to leave early. Mr. Krabs agrees as long as he brings back the prize money or else it will be a month of unpaid work.

SPONGEBOB: "Yipee! Thank you, Mr. Krabs!"

MR. kRABS: "Alright, alright! Just bring me back that money or you're fired!"

TAILS: "I thought he said-"

SONIC: "Shhh."

PATRICK: "Oh! I wanna come too! Can I come too, Spongebob?"

SPONGEBOB: "Sure thing, buddy! With you there, we can definitely win this!"

PATRICK: "Hooray!"

SONIC (In thought): "We totally didn't agree to bring the starfish, but he did take out that robot..."

And with that, their mission was officially done. It seems that after the events of today, Sonic and Tails learned to never underestimate the unexpected ever again. As they go through the travel ring with their new racers, Sonic has this acking feeling he was forgetting something...

MR. KRABS: "Hey wait a minute! That blue hedgehog didn't pay for his meal!"

...It was probably nothing important.

"3... 2... 1... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAC-MAN!!!"

In the peaceful world of Pac-Land, Sonic, Tails, and the people of Pac Village celebrate the hungry hero's birthday. During the birthday party, Sonic and Tails gives Pac-Man his invitation to the Crossworlds Grand Prix to which he agrees to with a smile. "Thanks, blue buddy! I definitely needed an excuse to get the ol' ridge racer running. It's been collecting dust for years." Sonic response with a peace sign and a grin. "No problem! It's been a long time since we've hung out. Who would've thought that the next time we do, it will be on the racetrack." Pac-Man chuckled. "To be honest, I was expecting a certain plumber to take my place, but I'm glad his stubbornness came in handy this time."

Sonic and Pac-Man has been crossover buddies for years. They've been on many adventures not many have even heard of. The two even fought in the Smash Bros Universal Tournament to which Sonic came out on top, only for himself to eventually be defeated by the hero of Erdrea. Now, with this invitation to the biggest race in the universe, it seems their bond will grow even further! "Enough with the chit-chat for a bit...", Pac-Man says with a little impatience in his voice, "...let's get to the cake already!" Sonic's face lightens up with glee. "Alright! Now we're talking!" However, before they can indulge in anything, the (unfortunately) expected mischief of the ghosts came popping up to the surprise of...no one. "Happy birthday, Pac-Man! My, what a delicious cake you got there. Would be a shame if something were to happen to it!"

"Clyde, buddy, you couldn't at least wait until next week?", Pac-Man says unamused. "Of course not!", Blinky barged in, "If there were ever a good time to make the fat man sing a tune, it would be on his birthday!" "Rude...", Pac-Man responses, giving a blank glare in return. Tails, after finishing his snacks, rushes in to see what was going on. The sight of the ghosts terrified the poor little fox, but he put on his best poker face to hide such fears. Nobody wasn't convinced, except for the ghosts themselves apparently. "Alright, enough with pranks.", Sonic says, "Hand over the birthday boy's birthday cake and we can all have a happy Tuesday, yeah?" Pac-Man wanted to correct him by saying it's actually Saturday but decided to keep it to himself. Inky then appears. "If you want it that badly, you're gonna have to come and get us!" Sonic chuckled at such a challenge. Chasing and catching is Sonic's expertise. A couple of ghosts are no match for the blue blur's signature speed. His signature smile, however, drops when he finds out that catching the ghosts wasn't going to be as easy as he thought.

Out of thin air, the four ghosts summoned a travel ring and made their escape. Sonic, Tails, and Pac-Man quickly jump in and found themselves in a very familiar location. "G-Green Hill Zone?!", Sonic and Tails say in union. Pac-Man looks around in confusion. "Familiar with the area?" Tails gave a tired chuckle. "Very. Actually, this place is from our world." "And we're kind of an expert of the area!", Sonic adds. With that brief explanation out of the way, the three decided to split up to look for the ghost. Sonic and Pac-Man searched together as a pair while Tails looks around in the sky with plane. Being familiar with the area, Sonic hoped he would find the ghosts easily. Unfortunately, the three were coming up short. After 2 hours of searching, the trio regroup. "Seems finding these troublemakers is gonna take more time than expected.", Sonic says in annoyance. "I know...", Tails responses, "...I just hope they haven't gone even farther away." Just then, Pac-Man came up with an idea. "Hey fox buddy, don't you have some kind of device that can track ghosts? Sonic has told me you were an expert with machines." 

Tails in fact did possess such a device. Upon grabbing it from his workshop, Tails instantly found the ghosts' hiding spot. "Geez, it was so easy. Why didn't I think of this sooner?", Tails says, feeling stupid. A sarcastic remark came to Pac-Man's mind, but for the sake of getting this ridiculous side quest over with, he once again kept his thoughts to himself. The trio soon made their way to Marble Zone and eventually found their culprits. "Oh man! I thought they finally gave up!", Blinky says in distress. "Alright you guys, enough with the party games. Hand over my cake.", Pac-Man demands. Clyde scuffs. "Hmph! Before we give you the cake, why didn't you invite us to your birthday party?" "Why WOULD I?", Pac-Man answers in disbelief. Of course, a bunch of troublemakers weren't going to be trusted to behave. Pac-Man thought it was silly that the ghosts would even dream that they would ever get an invitation. 

"Oh darling, you're so mean!", Pinky cries, "it just makes me want to do... THIS!" Suddenly, the ghosts pick up the birthday cake and threw it into the lava. Seeing Pac-Man's sadden expression made the four chackle in union. "Oh... you done it now..." With his fist tighten and his patience at his limits, Pac-Man grabs a yellow pellet from his pocket. The ghosts stop their laughter when they realized what's coming next. "E-Easy there, Pac-Man", Clyde says in a shaky voice, "We'll bake you another cake! Whatcha say?"

"I say get ready for a hurricane!" Sonic then revs up his super peel out and formed a tornado around the ghosts, trapping them.

"Right! I almost forgot!", Pac-Man exclaims, "Today is your birthday too. Here, let me give you all a present!" With a mighty swallow, Pac-Man became Super Pac-Man and chomp his enemies back to the travel ring. The ghosts' mischief was finally undone at the sad cost of Pac-Man's birthday cake.

"Sorry, buddy, I'll make it up to ya.", Sonic reassures Pac-Man. Pac-Man, however, reassures Sonic that everything is okay and that this little adventure makes up for the cake. When the trio returns to party, they were surprised to find that there was a second cake waiting for them!

Ms. PAC-MAN: "Happy birthday, sweetheart!

PAC-MAN: "I-I don't understand. I thought-"

Ms. PAC-MAN: "Oh sweetie, did you think I didn't came prepared in case something like this happens?"

PAC-MAN: "And that's why you're the best wife in all of Pac-Land!"

SONIC: "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dig in!"

TAILS: "Woo-hoo! Finally! Cake time!"

In the end, Sonic and Tails enjoyed their dear friend's birthday a little longer before finally making their way back home (again). Pac-Man was invited, and the duo can't wait to eventually meet him on the racetrack. However, although they were expecting only expecting Pac-Man to appear, Pac-Man himself has other ideas.

CLYDE: "Aw geez! My neck is still killing me!"

BLINKY: "I told you we should've waited til' next week! My back is still acks from last week when we stole those golden fruits!"

CLYDE: "Oh shut up..."

PINKY: "Hey guys! Look!"

CLYDE: "What now?"

PINKY: "It's Pac-Man! He invited us to this Crossworlds race thing!"

CLYDE: "Seriously?! Haven't we been tortured enough by that yellow freak?!"

INKY: "...M-Maybe we should join. I rather not get eaten by that guy again for a very long time."

CLYDE: "...ahhh..."
