Avid stepped back, his face ashen. “No! Are you insane? I-“
“The way I see it, Avid, is you have two choices.” Scott smiled, the sharp teeth glistening in the red moonlight. “Either you agree to let me turn you, or we turn both you and Drift.”
Avid's breath caught, his eyes widening as he stared at the blue haired vampire. “Leave- leave her out of this!” His voice was panicked, and Scott laughed.
“As I said. You have two options. Choose wisely.”
Avid sucked in a breath, eyes darting to the shadows around them, to some of the vampires within said shadows. He wouldn’t be able to escape. Scott was right, there was no way out for him. But Drift- “If I agree,” his voice shook. “And keep your identities secret, you won’t turn Drift?”
“If that is what you wish,” Scott started agreeing, and Avid snapped angrily at him.
“No! Phrase it as an actual deal. None of you will turn her as long as I don’t fight back and don’t go telling people about your identities.”
Scott stared at him, interest flaring in his eyes. “Very well, I agree to those terms.” His voice was a purr. He stepped forward smoothly, and Avid took a hurried step back. Scott tilted his head. “I thought you said you wouldn’t fight back.”
“This- I’m not fighting!” Avid hurried to explain, still backing up. “I just- I’m scared! I’m scared and my brains telling me to run but I can’t and-“ his breath caught as he backed into a wall, and suddenly Scott was right in front of him.
“That’s right. You can’t.” Scott grabbed his shoulder, using his other hand to lean his head sideways before leaning down and biting. Avid let out a scream of pain, his legs kicking slightly and causing Scott to let go of his head and shoulder to lift him off of the floor and up the wall.
He drank and drank and drank, and Avid got more and more dizzy, his loud cries turning into soft sobs into sniffles. By the time Scott finished, dropping him to the floor, he was too weak to move.
“Find him a coffin.” Scott’s voice rose above the rest. “And get an animal of some kind. I will deal with him after he fledges.”
Avid let go of consciousness as vampires moved towards him, the tears that filled his eyes falling to the floor like unholy rain.
Avid swallowed, wavering in place in the shadows as he watched Oakhurst be set on fire. The six or so humans remaining screaming in fear and anger.
He was hidden, watching this all happen, watching as Scott and Owen parade in front of the captured humans, talking through their faults and stupidity. “You didn’t even notice us turning people until about seven fledglings in!” Scott laughed. “And really, you really should have noticed the eleventh that I turned.
“Why’s that?” Drift hissed it, her words sharp and angry.
Scott turned. “Come out now, come along,” he paused, grinning. “Avid.”
The cries of horror as he stepped into the fire light made tears fill his eyes. He kept his head down to avoid looking at the humans as he stepped up to Scott’s side.
Scott leaned forward, gripping his chin in a way that was simultaneously soft and hard as iron, to lift it up. Scott stared down at him, something strange crossing his face as he swept his thumb over his lips. “None of you even noticed when dear little Avid stopped accusing people of vampirism. None of you thought to check on him when he became more withdrawn and fearful, when he suddenly followed my word as if it was law.” Scott smiled.
“None of you noticed how one person has been left entirely alone as of yet.” Scott let go of his chin, pointing Avid's head at Drift. "We have followed the agreement you laid out.” He purred. “None of us have turned her. Nor will we. So now it is your choice.” He looked at Avid, grinning. "Either you turn her, the only vampire not held under that oath, or we kill her.”
His grin sharpened further as he stared down at Avid's horrified face. “Make your choice quickly, we don’t have all night after all.”
