Bruce and Clark had been dating for a couple months, and it was going well enough that they'd agreed to let their family and friends know. The news had gone over well, and Bruce had thought that would be the end of it.
But it seems it was only the beginning. Clark's family was now poking their noses into his business constantly. It was all innocuous and each incident on the face of it was innocent enough, but together they made a pattern. None of them would ever offer or ask for assistance so often before.
Clark's family, and Clark as well, despite their friendly reputation, tended to keep to themselves for the most part. Oh sure, they were on teams and would go to bat for their teammates each and every time, and would help if asked or in the area, but they didn't share personal details or pry for them.
Which is precisely what made their current behavior so unusual.
They especially did not stop by Bruce's home.
Superboy was just about the last person Bruce expected to see in the kitchen at 4 AM after getting back from patrol.
"Batman, hi! Or should I call you Bruce? Man, you have a lot of protein drinks in here."
Bruce blinked, trying to get what he was seeing to make more sense. "Superboy, what -"
"Kon. My name is Kon-El." Superboy - no, Kon - said firmly.
"Kon. Right. Uh. Why are you here?"
"Can't a guy drop in on the new partner in the family? Ugh, you don't have any soder cola?"
"Tim has some." Bruce said on autopilot.
"Yeah, but that's Zesti. Not as good." Kon said.
"Did you break in just to rummage through my refrigerator?" Bruce asked, still trying to figure out why exactly Kon was here. "Do you . . . need something?"
"Nah, just wanted to stop by." One of Tim's soda cans floated out of the refrigerator and into his hand - presumably some of Kon's much talked about TTK, and it was rather alarming to realize he could use it through air now - and Kon wandered off. A whooshing sound indicated he left the premises.
Bruce blinked. Well. That was odd.
Supergirl was a little more blunt and directly to the point, when she greeted him in the Batcave a few nights later.
"You're dating my cousin."
"I am." Bruce said evenly.
Kara stared at him for a long moment.
"Surprisingly, you're pretty good for each other."
"Thank you?"
Kara shrugged. "Keep it that way, okay? You two have a good thing here."
"Your family keeps breaking into my house." Bruce announced.
Clark groaned. "I'll talk to them about it."
"It's fine, just - odd. I don't know what they really want from me. They were just - there." He frowned. "Do they not like me? Do they not approve? Are they trying to communicate that?"
"Hon, if Kara didn't like you she would have told you to go fuck yourself. They're just curious and trying to figure you out."
"Are you sure, though? They didn't seem very inclined to ask questions."
"It's more likely they were trying to get a sense of what you're like when you're not being Batman or Bruce Wayne, CEO. They just wanted to see what you're like behind all your masks."
"And that's supposed to reassure me?"
"Well, you've already impressed them, they've said they like you to me."
"Really." Bruce said skeptically.
"Well," Clark ran a finger along Bruce's chin. "You are pretty likeable underneath it all, in my opinion."
"You are incredibly biased." Bruce grumbled as Clark kissed his cheek.
