Work Text:
Stephen slumped in relief when Tony’s car pulled up. Tony climbed out, moving towards him. “Are you okay?” he asked carefully.
“I will be,” Stephen said. The embrace came natural, instinctive, a search for comfort and safety he could only find in Tony. Tony froze in his arms.
Right. Tony didn’t remember. Memory problems Stephen was going to have to investigate. Knowing their lives, it’d be more than a concussion gone wrong. No, it’d be far more complicated. Stephen started to pull back, but then Tony’s arms came up. Stephen relaxed into the embrace. Memories or not, this was Tony.
After a moment, Tony pulled away. “Am I taking you home?”
Stephen shook his head. “I need to go to the Sanctum.” He didn’t have his sling ring, which was why he’d needed Tony to come get him. His hosts hadn’t cared about setting him down somewhere convenient. He’d been lucky to borrow someone’s phone.
Tony blinked in confusion. “Okay…” He helped Stephen to the car.
“I’ll explain everything,” Stephen promised, giving Tony the address.
Tony drove them to the city, gaze darting towards Stephen. “What happened to you?” he asked, finally.
“That is… really complicated,” Stephen said. “I’m hoping Wong will help me explain. And hopefully help me determine what happened to you.”
“What makes you think something happened to me?” Tony asked. “It was an accident.”
Stephen huffed a laugh. “That’s just our lives, Tony.”
Tony looked skeptical, but didn’t push.
They reached the Sanctum and Tony followed him in.
Wong appeared at the top of the stairs. Pure relief crossed his face. “Thank the Vishanti.” He glanced at Tony. “You brought Tony, too. Good.”
Stephen frowned. Why would Wong need Tony? “What?”
“Let me check you both over; then I’ll explain,” Wong said. “To both of you.”
