Work Text:
“How did you get this number?”
Stephen frowned. The abrupt question was the last thing Stephen had expected after Stephen’d been missing two months. He’d expected a little more concern. “This is our number.”
“Huh.” Silence. “FRIDAY told me only my husband had this number.”
…worrisome comment. “I am your husband.”
Stephen didn’t have the energy for this. Stephen just wanted Tony to come pick him up from where he’d been dumped on the side of the road by his dimensional ‘hosts’. Maybe then Stephen would feel safe, after two months of hell.
More silence. “FRIDAY also told me my husband is dead.”
What!? “Why is FRIDAY telling you that?” Yes, Stephen’s situation had been… not good. But the very idea that Tony thought he was dead just… didn’t compute.
“…I had an accident,” Tony said slowly. “My memory’s been… fuzzy. FRIDAY’s helped. She said you were dead.”
“Not dead,” Stephen said. “Just… missing.” He winced. “Long story.” He needed to figure out what Tony remembered before he started talking about dimensional hostage situations. “Given you’ve lost your memory, I’m pretty sure we have bigger problems, right now. Just… come get me?”
Another silent moment. “Yeah, I’ll come get you.”
