Chapter 1
The Arrowed Wing
Scar
Scar could barely make eye contact with him through the avian’s mask. Those deep black soulless eyes had so much cruelty behind them. His smile was twisted in such a way that further reaped the selfishness behind his eyes.
“Wow Sunflower, you came all this way for little old me?” He asked, his voice gave off a cackle. “I’m honestly flattered.”
Scar couldn’t help but fall back slightly; he was so caught off guard by the entire comment. So, surprised that Echo would even go there. Echo flapped his black wings causing the wind to pick up. The streetway was already empty enough.
Sunflower Striker was called to the scene randomly, something about The Spanner’s leader robbing a bank? He had gotten called a bit too late though so now he just had to chase him down before he got away. A task that would be easy with any other criminal but with Echo it was a lot harder.
“Yes I will do anything to stop you villians!” He snapped. He wished that his fellow bamboozlers were there, his two best friends and crime fighting partners Lizzie and Jimmy. The two of them were both busy though so he had to deal with this alone.
“Then do it,” Echo gave a playful smirk.
Scar ran to punch him, he expected the white fabric of his red trimmed enchanted gloves to turn bloody but Echo dodged it.
Then suddenly everything went dark, this is what happened when Lizzie used her power, Shadow. Echo had the ability to mimic any power, as long as he knew how somebody’s power worked he could recreate it. From what Scar had gathered through research though, it had a limit. The power itself was something Scar envied, why do villains always get the cool powers?
Scar glanced around trying to see anything but it was all darkness, everything around him was dark, he hurled at where he remembered Echo being. But alas he had moved. Instead of launching his fist into Echo’s stomach, instead Echo was able to land a punch into Scars stomach. It was unusually strong and only then did the shadows start to fade. Echo used Scar’s own power against him.
“Not so funny when the shoes are on the other foot huh, Sunflower Striker?” He joked, his clear satisfaction grew at the sight of Scar’s grimace in pain. He then started to dash away, the sack of cash in his hand.
It was probably smart to start to use his wand abilities, he grabbed his trusty bow, hot guy which was fastened tightly along his glittery red belt.
He was great with a bow, he always knew to aim where the person was going to next. To guess the person’s next move, and Scar had a suspicion he knew what Echo’s next goal was.
He strung back the arrow, his magical wand was able to give him enhanced abilities. It was similar to his punches but he had knockback.
He aimed where Echo was certain to be next. Scar had learned Echo’s strategy, his movements.
He let go and just as Scar expected, before the avian could lift his feet off the ground the arrow pierced through his wing.
Echo instantly froze, if Scar wasn’t too certain he was sure he would topple over right there.
Echo’s movements then went quick he ripped the arrow out of his blackish purple wing, as he ripped it off you could see the dust particles from the paint he must have used to disguise his wings. Doing so he dropped the money bag.
Scar ran over and grabbed the bag, he then went over in hopes of grabbing him. Taking him in this fatal state to the police where he would be reprimanded. But as he reached for him there was nothing to grab.
He must have used Jimmy’s ability, invisibility. Scar tried to chase the wind but it was no hope he’d gotten away again.
Eventually the police and interviewers showed up and it was a big hassle. It must have been two hours before Scar got back home.
He twisted his doorknob, and unlocked it then walked into his apartment. The smell of cat hair from Jellie flooded the room. The place was a mess at the moment.
Lizzie was currently in the process of trying to find a new roommate ever since she and her ex broke up so boxes of all of Lizzie’s stuff sprawled across the oak wood floor.
Scar invited Lizzie to stay with him because he thought nothing of it. A temporary roommate until she can find another one.
As much as Scar loved Lizzie it felt more like a burden.
Whenever he and his boyfriend, Grian would hang out they would usually go to Scar’s apartment because Grian was roommates with Mumbo. Now there seemed to be no place of privacy.
But tonight was different.
Tonight Lizzie was busy getting the final stuff from her ex’s house. Lizzie always took forever to pack so Grian and Scar had the apartment for the evening.
That meant that Scar had the entire apartment just for him and Grian to hang out without fear of people listening to their conversations. Just one on one time with him and his boyfriend.
At this point it was 5PM, Scar never set times to hang out with Grian, just dates and general terms. Grian wasn’t good at keeping track of stuff. So Scar decided to call him, check up on him, make sure he was doing alright.
He called Grian, the cellphone ringing for a good minute before Grian picked up.
“Why Hello There.” Scar said.
“Scar- hey,” Grian said, Scar could vaguely read some uncertainty in his boyfriend’s voice.
“So I was wondering if you know when you're going to be over here?” Scar asked, he could hear faint yelling in the background of the call, almost cartoonish panic.
“Sorry that's Skizz I’m at his house right now,” Grian explained, “Look Scar I’m not feeling the best I got really hurt. You know Skizz, doesn’t want me to leave until I'm better.”
“Oh, okay.” Scar said. Skizz was one of Grian’s coworkers and closest friends. Despite being a lot older he tended to tag around a lot with him and Mumbo. He was also one of Grian’s only Avian friends. They worked at the “Bird Brasserie,” together. Skizz was a pretty good healer and was sort of like the dad of the friend group so it wasn’t odd that he wanted Grian to stay over.
“Oh I have to go now, bye.” Grian said, his voice empty. Before Scar could even say goodbye, the phone call was hung up.
Scar felt guilty for wanting to see Grian anyways. Was he selfish? He was upset that his boyfriend was sick and couldn’t spend time with him, maybe he was selfish. His phone suddenly buzzed, stopping the moral dilemma.
“Lizz :3” The contact name read, Scar accepted it.
“I know you're supposed to hang out with Grian later but Hey could you pick me up and help me finish packing all the boxes?”
“He cancelled so sure.”
———————————————————————————
Grian
“Okay Okay, G you are going to be okay,” Skizz said, he seemed to be the main person panicking. Despite the pain in Grian’s wing he felt like he should be the one comforting Skizz.
Skizz was an amateur healer, being a dove avian he had that magical ability. Mumbo was also there, somebody who probably shouldn’t have been.
Mumbo was terrible in stressful situations, blood made him wince. He was probably the worst person to be a super villain, not only was he not a hybrid but his power was pretty specific, and even with wand applications wasn’t all that useful.
“Tech Deactivation.” It was useful whenever they were fighting one of the more robotic heroes but it never really came into use. Also using it was a major energy drainer to the point where most of the time whenever used it would knock him out. That was most of the time though, it seemed it didn’t have that effect whenever he did it unintentionally which was a lot. There had been multiple occasions when the three were driving to work and suddenly the traffic lights would go out.
“Mambo, get the bandages.” Skizz demanded, although his voice wasn’t very demanding.
“Where are the bandages?” Mumbo said in the same cadence that a wet cat would.
“Fine I’ll get them, make sure G-sharp stays awake.” Skizz said. It was odd how he could still be referring to them as nicknames as Grian had an arrow lodged into his wing.
He didn’t even think about passing out until Skizz mentioned it. Grian wished he could have gone to a hospital, but alas being a supervillain had its downsides. Like whenever you publicly get an arrow wound on television if you walk into a hospital they tend to connect the dots.
The pain had only worsened, he wanted to take the arrow out the second it entered his wing, but they didn’t have the bandages. After the fight Sunflower Striker Grian made his way to an alleyway and called Skizz and Mumbo.
Skizz was luckily in the area at the time so it was no trouble. Skizz was able to fly him home and Mumbo drove to Skizz’s house. Grian asked for Mumbo to meet them there “for emotional support.”
Mumbo was nice and all but he seemed more panicked then Grian was.
“Don’t go to sleep,” Mumbo said, shaking his head frantically.
“Wasn’t planning on it,” Grian said.
“Is Scar upset with you?” Mumbo asked, it was weird that after that phone call Grian hadn’t given it much of a second thought. Why would Scar be upset with him?
“I don’t think he minds, I mean I am not feeling the best.” Grian tried to slightly move his wing then yelped out in pain.
“Stop mate, stop!” Mumbo said. You could see the black powder slowly dissaulting from Grian’s wings revealing the bright shades of red, yellow and blue. “Thats not what I meant I mean don’t you think he’d start to get suspicious with you blowing him off all the time?”
“I don’t do it that often,” Grian said defensively. Who did Mumbo think he was? Trying to insinuate that Grian was a bad boyfriend.
Skizz then ran in with the bandaging. “Okay this will only hurt for a second.” Skizz said. He approached Grian’s left wing. Grian couldn’t help but shift back. “Stay still buddy” Skizz said it in the same way he would have said it to his dog, Kevin Bubbles Malone Refrigerator Jimmy Madeye Dugan.
Skizz finally made his way to Grian’s wing, then with two hands pulled out the arrow. Pain erupted Grian’s body, he wanted to scream or cry out but he did everything in his power to not.
Skizz was already in his magic form. Magic forms were powered by wands, mysterious items, wands bestowed and placed by the Gods. Nobody knows where to find them, only that there is some way that people get access to them. Watcher Corp gave them their wands. It gave them a disguise but the main reason Skizz was using his magic form was to amplify his powers. He needed all the healing magic he could physically get.
Grian grabbed onto Mumbo’s hand he just needed something to hold onto. Skizz started the healing, he held the feathers of the arrow wound, and Skizz’s hands started to glow.
“Divine Healing,” was what he called his power, although there wasn’t much divine about it. The reason why he nicknamed it that was because whenever you pray to higher powers you never know if it will go through and Skizz’s dove magic was just like that. It would only sometimes work, usually on a scale of zero to hundred. Sometimes it could ease the pain a little, not work at all and on the lucky and rarer days the wing would have been as good as new.
“I still can’t believe you think I mistreat Scar!” Grian said, he was trying to find another focus point that wasn’t on the pain.
“I’m not saying that it's just you stand him up a lot y’know?” Mumbo stuttered, “Like three days ago you did this exact thing.”
“I’m tired after I turn into Echo. What's the matter with that?”
“Look- I’m not trying to say that you're in the wrong, but I just think that you should be a bit more mindful of Scar. We wouldn’t want him to catch on,”
“Catch on?” Grian asked.
“Everytime you stand him up, are the same days that Echo fights crime!”
“Even if he did become suspicious I don’t think he’d turn me in.” Grian said. “I mean he thinks the same way that I do, that the government is wrong for its treatment of hybrids. He would defidently support me.”
“Whatever you say.” Mumbo said, “I’m going to make some tea.” Mumbo then left the room, leaving only Skizz and Grian.
“Is it working?” Skizz asked hopefully, he knew he would break Skizz’s heart but the pain was exactly the same.
“No.”
“AW DANGETTE!” Skizz yelled. “I could probably try again tomorrow.”
Grian knew this wouldn’t work, the wing would only get worse and more damaged. His best bet would be going to a hospital but that wasn’t an option suddenly the door creaked open.
“Everything, okay in here?” Impulse asked, he stared at the two avians on the floor in confusion.
“Dippledop your back!” Skizz said excitedly as if seeing his husband made him forget his bleeding friend.
“Hi Skizz,” Impulse said “What happened here?”
“Haven’t you seen the news?” Skizz asked. ”G man took an arrow to his wing.”
“And you're trying to heal him?” Impulse asked. Skizz nodded frantically. “Is it working?” Skizz shook his head frantically.
“We were planning on trying again tomorrow.” Grian said.
“Nonsense, do you really think waiting will help? Also what if it doesn’t work tomorrow then do you just wait until the next day?” Impulse asked.
“So what do you suggest we do, Impy?” Skizz asked.
“I could ask S-Changeling if he’s still at the base.” Impulse said
“He’s a shapeshifter though,” Grian said,
“Yeah but him being a unicorn hybrid gives him strong healing abilities too.” Impulse explained, “I’ll give him a call.”
Impulse was also a supervillain not in the Spanners though. He was in a group called “The Gs” nobody understood where the name came from but they were the most infamous super villain group in the Traffictopia area.
People would come up to Grian as Echo and tell him that he should leave the Spanners to join them. That he was stronger and they were just holding him back. Grian always laughed at the civilians. Sure they were probably stronger but Grian didn’t even know most of the G’s real identities, only Impulse.
Shortly after Impulse came back into the room. “He said he’s still there and would be more than happy to heal you. I can drive you there but we should probably hurry.”
“I’ll come too!” Skizz offered.
Mumbo walked back into the room holding a cup of tea.
“Where are we going?” He asked.
“You should probably stay here,” Impulse suggested. “We don’t know how long it will take and we don’t want anyone to get suspicious. And also Gem is supposed to come back tonight so if she realizes that nobody’s home she will be confused.”
“Fine.” Mumbo said reluctantly.
And just like that the three headed off.
———————————————————————————
Scar
Scar helped Lizzie carry the boxes into his trunk. The last few remaining ones.
“So that's it?” He asked.
“Yep I think that's the last of my stuff.” The box she was holding had pink stuffed animals overflowing and one blue stitch standing out.
“You cannot bring that plushie into my apartment.” Scar said, eyeing the stitch plushie.
“Oh come on! He's so cute.” Lizzie said, squishing the stuffed animal.
“As long as I don’t have to see it.” Scar said. “We should go say goodbye to Cleo.”
”But why?” Lizzie asked.
“I think it's the polite thing to do.” Scar basically dragged Lizzie back inside the house.
“I think we got the last of her stuff.” Scar said. Cleo was currently sitting on her couch staring at her phone.
“Great.” They said it was always awkward whenever friends broke up. Scar didn’t want to pick sides so he tried to look at it from both angles. Even still he didn’t fully understand the breakup. The two seemed happy together. Lizzie had even moved in a couple months prior.
From what Scar had been able to gather Bigb and Cleo had a falling out and afterwards Lizzie defending him and that was the start of their breakup. Scar didn’t know what to believe but he knew it was best that he was there for both his friends.
“Thank you for letting us come back Cleo.” Scar said.
“Yep, of course.” Cleo was still staring at her phone.
“I-I’m gonna go.” Lizzie said she made her way back to the car and must have expected Scar to follow.
“Okay the cars unlocked I’ll be out there in a minute.” Scar stayed in Cleo’s house. It was awfully colorful, various patterned blankets, rugs and tapestries gave the entire home an “eighties vibe.”
"Looks like I have to find a new roommate now.” Cleo groaned.
“Looks like you have to.” Scar echoed.
“Always kind of knew it would end like this.” Cleo said, “Just like how it went with Etho.”
“Etho’s hard to read, I can't blame you.” Scar said. Cleo was quite a bit older than him, and was weirdly enough sort of a parental figure. He’d accidentally called her mom his fair share of times.
“That's what everyone always says y’know?” Cleo said, “But when does it actually become my fault if the blame always feels shifted?” They glanced at Scar wanting some form of answer.
“Well I feel like most breakups are mutual, like sometimes you meet someone who seems great but when you really get to know them you realize they aren’t the one.” Scar said. “So no it's not your fault, Grian dated like two guys before me.”
“How is Grian doing?” Cleo asked, her eyes sharpening.
“He is feeling sick today apparently, we made plans and he had to call them off.” Scar explained. “He did the same thing a few days ago and last week. So I’m guessing he's just going through something.”
“No matter what he’s going through, no reason to continuously ditch your plans.” Cleo said.
Scar took a seat next to her, he felt somewhat guilty that the situation had shifted to talking about him but she didn’t care.
“I mean it's fine it's fine.” Scar said. “It does hurt a little, but I trust him- I think,” Scar
said.
”You think?” Cleo asked. “Did he do something to make you not trust him?”
“No he didn’t, but like I said he just keeps on blowing me off,” Scar explained. “Four out of five times I ask him to hang out he says he can then suddenly something happens and he can't. I feel horrible for feeling this way, he’s sick and I'm upset because he can’t hang out with me.”
“You think he could be cheating?” Cleo’s eyes thin into a plotting look, as if excited at the prospect that he is so that she can carry out whatever she is thinking.
“No- I mean I guess I wouldn’t know it's my first relationship.” Scar didn’t know he liked guys until college and then he met Grian at the cafe he worked at. Grian on the other hand dated two guys before Scar, first it was a guy named Sam who seemed like a total asshole and then there was a guy named Taurtis who Grian was on semi good terms with. Anyways Grian knew more about relationships then Scar so who was he to assume his boyfriend was cheating.
“You should go to his house, check up on him.” Cleo suggested. “Bring him cookies or something.”
“You're right, we can even stop by Bigb's." Scar caught himself, “I meant the super market.”
“Right. If he is cheating, tell me, I will yell at him the next time I see him.”
“He isn’t, okay?” He’s probably just sick and the cookies would defidently cheer him up.” Scar said. “Thanks Cleo bye!”
Scar then ran off, he was pretty excited he’d get to see Grian tonight.
“Bye Scar.” They said, Scar went back to his car.
He was about to sit down before he jumped jumpscared. In the driver's seat sat the blue plushie that he never wanted to see.
“What the heck is this Lizzie?” He asked. She was giggling. Scar grabbed the plushie then tossed it into the truck.
“Hey, don't hurt him like that!” Lizzie whined then she glanced back at Cleo’s house. “Did they mention me?” She asked.
“What- No, just needing to find a new roommate.” Scar said. “They actually gave me some good advice?”
“Was the advice to hold grudges long term and not mention them until she broke up with you?” Lizzie asked bitterly.
“What no! I thought you guys were chill.” Scar said.
“That's what everyone says Scar, avoiding drama or whatever.” Lizzie said, “Now what is this genius advice Cleo bestowed upon you?” She rolled her eyes.
”Well Grian said he wasn’t feeling the best, She was thinking maybe we get him cookies at Bigb’s store then stop by Skizz’s house to make him feel better.” Scar explained.
“Well that sounds like a great idea!” Lizzie said.
Scar pulled out of the driveway and then punched in the direction to Bigb’s cafe. The drive was short, Lizzie turned on some random pop music. Before long they arrived in front of the colorful blue building.
At this point the sun was setting so Scar was somewhat scared that it wouldn’t even be open.
“Do we think that Jimmy’s working?” Lizzie asked.
“I can’t remember exactly, hopefully we can either see him or Bigb.” The two friends walked into the store, a little bell rang as they did. The bakery was pretty much empty, the only table taken was two girls, a butterfly hybrid with black hair, and pastel purple wings who held a sheep plushie and a girl with brown hair wearing a mushroom beanie.
Lizzie seemed to recognize them so she went to say hi and started doing small talk. Scar took it as his sign to go order his cookies. He made his way to the counter and an unfamiliar face was at the counter. If Scar was correct he was either a bug hybrid of some sort of alien hybrid. His hair was all brown except for a green streak down the middle.
“Hello, what would you like?” He asked. When he spoke Lizzie made her way over.
“Is Jimmy working tonight?” Lizzie asked. The man's demeanor changed completely; it seemed like whatever annoyance being near Scar gave him Lizzie did the opposite.
“Oh for goodness sake, You actually just missed him, I could shoot him a call if you’d like.”
“No-no it's fine, we are just his friends and we wanted to see him if he was still here.” Scar explained
“Ok, Lizzie and Scar right?” He asked.
“Yes! How did you know?” Scar asked.
“He talks about you guys like a lot.” The man explained. “My name is Joel its nice to meet you guys.”
“How have I never met you before?” Lizzie asked, “I mean I come to this bakery like twice a week!”
“I just started working here a week ago and have only really had the night shifts,” he said. “Not a lot of places in the world that hire hybrids y’know?”
“Oh I know, it sure is limited, there's only five cafes in town that even looked at my application past the hybrid part." Lizzie said, she pointed to her axolotl ears.
It was a sad truth that the treatment of hybrids was never that good. Even in Traffic City, a place with so many hybrids, there still weren't a lot of job opportunities for them and overall there was a lot of discrimination. The reason why most of the super villains were hybrids really said something. Scar had tried to bring this up in meetings but it was always brushed aside. Scar wasn’t a hybrid himself but his best friends Jimmy and Lizzie being bird and Axolotl hybrids was enough and he was dating a hybrid. It was all so stupid to Scar. The only hybrids who really got jobs were the ones with powers to benefit those jobs.
“That sounds like a pain, I had a job for a while and then it all came crashing down and suddenly I found a new one.” Joel said. “Oh right the cookies sorry I got you guys off track.”
“Can I have a dozen chocolate chip ones?” Scar asked.
“Yep,” Joel grabbed the box, put on gloves and started loading them in.
Scar could feel Lizzie staring at him, he groaned and then gave in. “And one pink sugar cookie.”
“That can be on the house for her.” Joel said.
“Aww really? That's so nice.” Lizzie said.
Scar took the cookie box and paid. It took him a few extra minutes to get back into the car because Lizzie and Joel decided to exchange numbers but soon they were finally on the way to Skizz’s house.
Skizz’s house was decent sized, especially considering the fact that it housed both him and his husband. Scar parked the car then made his way in. Lizzie followed shortly after him.
Scar rang the doorbell. He was expecting Grian, Skizz or Mumbo but who he wasn't expecting was Gem.
For a second fear boiled inside of Scar’s chest was he hanging out with a bunch of friends? Did he just not want to tell Scar that he didn’t want to see him?
“Oh hey Scar, hey Lizzie. Can I help you?” She asked.
“Grian said that he was here.” Scar explained. Suddenly Mumbo came in from behind Gem.
“Oh hey Scar.” He said nervously, sweat trickling down his face. “Sorry Skizz and Impulse wanted to take Grian to the er- hospital quickly to make sure he was ok.”
“Oh it's that bad?” Scar asked nervously.
“No no no! It isn’t, they just want to make sure, you know how overprotective those two are.” Mumbo said. “They said they were on their way back soon, did you want to come in?”
“Sure.” Scar said. Lizzie and him walked into a living room with Gem and Mumbo. The living room was pretty clean outside of one area with blankets on the floor. Mumbo nervously sipped his tea.
“Maybe I should call him.”
“That would ruin the surprise though,” Scar said.
“Ok I’ll just call Skizz then.” Mumbo left the room with his phone in hand.
“So Gem, how's it going?” Lizzie asked.
“Oh it's going fine, I’m doing an internship right now actually.”Gem said excitedly.
“Oh really that's lovely.” Lizzie said.
“Yep, a whole lot of science, it's great!” She said, “I haven’t really found a place of my own so I’m staying here until I can.” She explained.
“Do they make you pay rent?” Scar asked, confused. He didn’t know that Gem had been staying there, he didn’t even know that Gem, Impulse and Skizz all knew each other.
“No- why would they?” Gem asked.
“I mean- wow that's awfully nice of them,” Scar said.
“Scar is making me pay rent, cause we are moving in together for a couple months.” Lizzie said.
“Yeah, that's normal Lizzie.” Scar said. “I’m sorry I’m not as generous as Impulse and Skizz!”
“Did your guy's parents make you pay rent when you lived with them?” Gem asked, somewhat concerned.
“Your parents?” Lizzie asked, confused.
Gem laughed, “I cannot believe that neither of you guys knew this oh my god.” The laughter seemed uncontrollable.
“I mean I just- nobody told us, how were we supposed to know?” Scar asked defensively. ”When did that happen?”
“Like a few years back, they adopted me when I was sixteen.” Gem explained.
“Ohhh.” Lizzie said.
“I still can’t believe neither of you guys knew!” Gem said, her laughter was interrupted by Mumbo entering the room.
“They will be here in a few minutes.” Mumbo said.
———————————————————————————
Grian
“We are almost back, DippleDop can I take off his blindfold?” Skizz asked.
“Sure.” Impulse replied, not glancing back, keeping his focus on the road.
When Grian could finally see again he was once again in Impulse’s car. He could recognize the street he was on. The brightness of being unable to see for the last hour caused him to wince back.
“Wow now I know a street leading to the G’s hideout. You guys are going to have to execute me.” He said jokingly. He glanced outside his window to see the bare streets leading up to Skizz’s house.
“Are you glad that Scar showed up?”
“Somewhat, I should probably be happier.” Grian said, as much as he hated to say it, Scar could be overwhelming at times especially when you just had a long hour of healing while blindfolded in a super villain base. His wing still hurt but the wound wasn’t visible and with the magic The Changeling used. The Changeling said that the wound would heal over time but it would be best to not fly with it for a while.
The car soon finally came to a stop. They parked in Impulse and Skizz’s garage. Grian got out of the car and three walked into the house.
The living room had four people in it, which felt like a lot more than it actually was. Lizzie, Gem, Mumbo and Scar all sprawled out across the couch.
“Oh wow, it's so great to see you guys!” Grian said in the most believable way he could. Scar immediately hugged him, something that felt warm but out of place.
The trio all made their way to sit on the couch. Grian sat next to Scar, he had a strange feeling he’d be upset if he didn’t.
“Can we finally eat now?” Gem asked.
“What?” Grian asked, confused.
“Your dingas boyfriend brought cookies and wouldn’t let us eat them until you got here.” Gem exclaimed.
“It was Cleo’s idea!” Scar said. “She said that I should do something to make you feel better.”
“Oh wow this is so nice.” Grian said. As much as he loved cookies he couldn’t help but want to go to sleep. He needed to bare it out for Scar’s sake for a little longer. Grian reached for a cookie he forgot to read the box but he immediately recognized its taste.
“Are these from BigB’s bakery?” Grian asked.
“Yep.” Scar said, “He actually got a new employee one that Lizzie has a crush on-“
“Shut up! He literally asked for my number.”
“You’ve been texting him all night!”
It was about an hour before the party cleared out. It was a pretty long hour but Grian didn’t want his face to show it. Mumbo had left and Gem had gone up to her room.
“Hey Grian, do you need a ride home?” Scar asked.
“No, I might just stay here tonight. That way Skizz can drive me to work in the morning.”
“Oh yeah. Well uh I better get going.” Scar said, “Wanna walk me out?” Grian nodded.
“I’m so sorry about what happened to your wing!” Scar said.
“Its not your fault.”
“Oh I know it isn't, it's just that, it must have been pretty scary to hit that sign in the middle of flying.”
“Yeah, so scary.” Grian echoed. “Anyways you better get heading, don't you have classes tomorrow?”
“Right-right, it's just your a lot more important than classes to me Gri.” He said it in a way that Grian would have usually found cute but now it just felt cheesy.
“Yeah.” Grian said.
“I’ll text you tomorrow. Please respond, I want to know if you're alright.”
“Alright.” Grian responded he walked Scar closer to the door.
“I love you Grian goodnight.” Scar said before leaving.
“Goodnight Scar.” Grian said then he shut the door.
