Work Text:
Oh My God, I’m A Trope
Buck realized he had somehow traveled back in time to his time in Colorado at Prudence’s Skyline Ranch. As he found himself sitting in the Jeep Maddie had given him, in newer condition. And last he knew it had been taken by the tsunami. He wasn’t in constant pain from his time at the 118 and the injuries he had taken from his rescues gone wrong. Or his leg from the bombing. He also had recent memories of telling the owner of the ranch he worked for at this time that he was going to check out the back fencing as they had problems with vandals at the time.
If he remembered right, it was drug dealers hiding their stash on the back of the property and causing further damage. Even trying to pin the drugs on Pru, who would no more have anything to do with them, than convert to the tent preacher in town.
His main thought was, ‘I’m in one of the tropes Chris loved to bother me with before they moved to Texas and that whole mess. The one about Time Traveling.’
Buck remembered where the drugs had been stashed and tracked the break in the fence to the area. Using his phone to call the Denver DEA office and be ignored as a trouble making youngster.
At this point, he remembered just how he got on with Pru when he had broken down near Hell’s Kitchen in Denver. And just why he hadn’t had a problem taking on the name of Buck. As the ATF in Denver’s Team Seven had a Buck on it who helped get him going again and he and his team got him an in with Pru. So, that was who he called next. And got told they were on their way.

After everything calmed down and the team was getting ready to leave, the sound of Fae Bells ringing was heard by all of them. And a baby travel basket slowly came into view. Along with a voice announcing the Fae giving Evington Christopher “Buck” Buckley the baby boy, Daniel Christopher Buckley. And all that went with him.
The baby boy, like all Wish Babies, was exactly three months old and the birth certificate stated he was a New Year’s Baby.
Pru and the team helped him get his new child get into the system as his. With the system giving him a stipend till he was on his feet.
%%Two Months Later%%
Danny was now five months’ old, and Buck had started to teach him baby sign language to later be morphed into American Sign Language. He was also on the way to total mobility with his crawling, so Pru had the rooms in the house they stayed in baby proofed.
Danny was babbling words as he did baby signs to get his needs across and make sure, he was listened to, all while earning the nickname of Lil’ Mischief.
Buck made sure to talk to him in regular language all the time as they went around the ranch doing Buck’s chores and Lil Danny watched Papa work.
They were doing little bits of skin-to-skin time still as Danny loved the quality time with Papa before bed at night. Music playing softly and Papa talking to him quietly about things as he fell asleep on him.
After his son was in bed, Buck would spend time doing his online classes as a dual major in Fire Science and Emergency Management in his last year. Due to his already testing out of everything else from his other life’s schooling.
He was planning on doing his SAR work later when Danny was a bit older, then registered with FEMA again like last time before he had joined the 118. Getting out of it due to jealousy issues. These classes would help with his plans in the long run, and he sat doing them with Pru in the room listening to the lectures and then they would go back and forth discussing things as he did his homework for each class.
He knew this time through, even if he went back to LA, he would not go to the 118, but County instead. There was no way in hell he would put himself in a position to get stabbed in the back again once let as well multiple times again.

Danny was now almost seven months old, and it was Buck’s birthday. Which they were spending on a trail to a small lake near the ranch to each’s delight at getting out on their hike. Danny facing forwards in his sling hanging from Papa’s chest. With the baby bag slung over the left shoulder and the bag with the picnic food and blanket over the right.
Danny was actually born in the same year as Eddie’s Chris though he was older by a few months. With Buck turned twenty on this day and Eddie only a little older than he was right now. The only reason the team at the 118 treated Ed’s as the adult and not Buck was because Eddie had been in a respected job before coming in as a combat medic. While Buck had been discharged for not knowing he was a savior sibling and had donated to an older brother when he was an infant. It was nowhere in his official medical papers. The military and the government were NOT amused when they got yelled at by the patents. To the tune of a hefty fine and being on the infamous watch lists.
The fact that the government also helped him get his trust funds from his grandparents away from his parents and helped him divorce them was just a bonus for him. That just added to why his sister never contacted him afterwards and he “forgot” to send any postcards to her from then on.
Now that he had a child, his trust came fully into his hands, hence his being able to go back to school even if it was online.
Now he was happy listening to his young son bounce in the sling as he yelled out at things. His basic words of the day were “What?” While pointing.
So, Buck would tell him with words and sign with his left hand while recording with his camera in his right to show Pru when he got home. And for Danny’s precious baby box that now held a lock of his hair from his first haircut. From the day before.
Danny let out a squeal as he saw the lake. He was such a water baby. Mixing words with babble and sign language. All the while trying to point. To the laughter of his Papa. With promises that they would at least get into the shallows after Danny’s nap and lunch.
They sat down near the lake and set up to the delight of Danny. With the blanket from the bag out for them to sit and lay on. A snack then some quiet music to calm Danny down for his nap that he was fighting mightily against. Till he just dropped off for a while.
Later was lunch then the promised dip in the shallows of the lake to their delight. Then packing up after cleaning themselves as best they could.
It had been a good day all around and not one Buck would trade anything for.
Buck walked quietly back with his son sleeping in his sling. And thank the Fae for his second chance and his own son in this new world.
In the wind there was a sound of “Welcome Evan.”
