Work Text:
“Are you sure you’re ready?” Phil asked Dan, nervously fidgeting in his chair.
“I mean yeah, we filmed and edited the whole thing, people made stuff for this, it would be a waste of everyone’s time if we didn’t.” Dan said, his voice smaller than usual.
“Hey,” Dan’s hands were taken and held, “We don’t have to if you aren’t ready, I trust you, I trust your judgement. This has to be okay with you or it isn’t okay with me.”
Dan took a deep breath and let out a long exhale. He closed his eyes and paused for a minute, letting himself reflect on how life ended up at this moment. “I think I’m ready, we worked so hard to get to this moment.”
“I want you to push the button, it wouldn’t feel right otherwise.”
“Actually I think we should push it together.”
Phil smiled as the pair took the mouse into their hands, Phil’s hand on top of Dan’s, as they awkwardly made their way towards the upload button on their YouTube page. A page they had spent years building together.
The button clicked.
The views began pouring in, comments one after the other.
“People really couldn’t have finished the whole thing before commenting?” Dan laughed.
“Just think of the headlines, hopefully they choose the one I suggested.” Phil laid back in his chair confidently.
“Absolutely not, your one was the worse!” Dan half heartedly slapped him on the arm.
His mind was a mixture of joy and worry, would all of this be for nothing? Would people care too much and begin an even intense form of invading their private lives? Would the audience even understand?
“You did good Dan.” said Phil, tuned into his boyfriend's mind, he couldn’t have spent so much time with the younger man to have not developed a sixth sense for his worry.
“I know, but -”
“But nothing, let your worries go, this is a good thing we did. You’ve got a therapy session tomorrow right?”
“Yeah, definitely needed, my hands are shaking.”
“Everyone is being so nice in the comments, this is the start of a whole new chapter for us,” said Phil, once again taking his partners shaking hands into his own, “I’m proud of you Dan.”
“I’m proud of you too, Phil. Thank you, for everything.”
