Chapter 1: The Horse and the Infant
Chapter Text
(A man is surrounded by a group of soldiers outside the city of Troy. It had been 10 years since the Trojan War had started. The soldiers were being led the 32 year old king of Ithaca. His name was Odysseus).
[Odysseus]
Alright my brothers listen closely
Tonight we make the Trojans pay
Ten years of war they killed us slowly
But now we'll be the ones who slay!
Think of your wives and your children
Your families wonder where you've been
They're growing old and yet you're still here
Do what I say and you'll see them again
[Soldiers]
Yes, sir!
[Odysseus]
Diomedes will lead the charge
Agamemnon will flank the guards
Menelaus will let our mates through the gates to take the whole city at large
Teucer will shoot any ambush attack
And Little Ajax will stay back
Nestor, secure Helen and protect her
Neo, avenge your father, kill the brothers of Hector!
[Soldiers]
Yes, sir!
[Odysseus]
Find that inner strength now!
Use that well of pride!
Fight through every pain now!
Ask yourself inside!
What do you live for?
What do you try for?
What do you wish for?
What do you fight for?!
[Soldiers]
What do you live for?
What do you try for?
What do you wish for?
What do you fight for?
(A woman appeared. Her back was turned to Odysseus, but he knew who it was).
[Odysseus]
Penelope…
Penelope…
(Imaginary-Penelope turned around. She was holding a baby).
[Odysseus]
And Telemachus…
(Odysseus embraced them both).
[Odysseus]
I fight for us…
I fight for us…
(Odysseus snapped back to reality).
[Soldiers]
What do you live for?
[Odysseus, spoken]
Penelope...
[Soldiers]
What do you try for?
[Odysseus, spoken]
Telemachus...
[Soldiers]
What do you wish for?
[Odysseus, spoken]
I'm on my way!
[Soldiers]
What do you fight for?
[Odysseus, spoken]
Attack!
(The soldiers opened the gates and the battle began. Odysseus defeated an opponent before climbing a wall. He reached the top, but before he could go further, a figure appeared and swung its sword at him).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Argh!
Who was that?
(The figure had disappeared. Odysseus raised his head. In the cloud, there was another figure).
[Zeus]
A vision of what is to come
Cannot be outrun
Can only be dealt with right here and now.
[Odysseus]
Tell me how.
[Zeus]
I don't think you're ready.
(Odysseus was now in a corridor of the castle, walking towards a closed door).
[Zeus]
A mission to kill someone's son
A foe who won't run
Unlike anyone you have faced before.
(Odysseus placed his hand on the knob).
[Odysseus]
Say no more, I know that I'm ready
[Zeus & Gods]
I don't think you're ready.
(Odysseus pushed the door open and… froze. In the room, a soft lullaby echoed. There in a crib, lay a sleeping infant).
[Odysseus]
It's just an infant...
It's just a boy...
What sort of imminent threat does he pose that I can not avoid?
[Zeus]
This is the son of none other than Troy’s very own prince Hector
Know that he will grow from a boy to an avenger
One fumed with rage as you're consumed by age
[Zeus & Gods]
If you don't end him now you'll have no one left to save
[Zeus]
You can say goodbye to
[Gods]
Penelope.
[Zeus]
You can say goodbye to
[Gods]
Penelope.
(Odysseus picked up the baby and held him in his arms).
[Odysseus, (Zeus & Gods)]
I could raise him as my own (He will burn your house and throne)
Or send him far away from home (He'll find you wherever you go)
Make sure his past is never known (The gods will make it known)
I'd rather bleed for you, down on my knees for you (He's bringing you down on your knees for you)
I'm begging please
(Oh, this is the will of the gods).
(Odysseus fell to his knees. He looked through an open window).
[Odysseus]
Please don't make me do this, don't make me do this!
[Zeus]
The blood on your hands is something you won't lose
[Zeus & Gods]
All you can choose is whose.
Chapter 2: Just a Man
Chapter Text
(Sometime later, Odysseus was sitting against the wall, the infant still in his arms).
[Odysseus]
I look into your eyes and I
Think back to the son of mine
You're as old as he was when I left for war
(The baby in Odysseus’ arms changed, going from Hector’s son to Telemachus).
Will these actions haunt my days? Every man I've slain?
Is the price I pay endless pain?
(Placing the him back in the crib, Odysseus covered the infant’s eyes).
Close your eyes and spare yourself the view
(Odysseus raised a sword over the infant’s head).
(Odysseus turned away from the infant, lowering his sword).
How could I hurt you?
I'm just a man who's trying to go home
Even after all the years away from what I've known
I'm just a man who's fighting for his life
Deep down I would trade the world to see my son and wife!
I'm just a man…
But when does a comet become a meteor?
When does a candle become a blaze?
When does a man become a monster?
When does a ripple become a tidal wave?
When does the reason become the blame?
When does a man become a monster?
(Odysseus picked the baby up, exiting the room).
[(Odysseus), Soldiers]
When does a comet become a meteor?
When does a candle become a blaze? (Forgive me)
(He stood at the top of a wall. From below, various soldiers looked up at him).
[(Odysseus), Soldiers]
When does a man become a monster? (Forgive me)
When does a man become a monster? (Forgive me)
(Odysseus held the baby over the wall).
[Odysseus, slowly]
I'm just a man.
(Odysseus let go, and the baby fell).
Chapter 3: Full Speed Ahead
Notes:
I know some lyrics should be bolder or italicized instead of having asterisk, but I found using asterisks easier than using the formatted text option, so just remember that while reading the rest of this
Chapter Text
(Odysseus was standing at the front of a ship. Him and his crew had just begun their journey back to Ithaca. They were already a few days in. He turned around to look at his men).
[Odysseus, *Crew*]
Six hundred men
Six hundred men under my command
With only one goal in mind
*Make it back alive to our homeland*
(Odysseus turned back around, looking at the ocean).
[Odysseus, *Crew*, **All**]
Six hundred men, six hundred miles of open sea
But the problem's not the distance
*It's what lies in between*
And Ithaca's waiting! *(Ithaca's waiting)*
My kingdom is waiting! *(The kingdom is waiting)*
Penelope's **waitin'** for me!
So full speed ahead, full speed ahead!
(A man appeared behind Odysseus).
[Eurylochus, *Crew*]
Captain *(Eurylochus)*
Six hundred men *(Six hundred men)*
Six hundred men with big mouths to feed
And we've run out of supplies to eat
*Curse the war, our food store's depleted*
Six hundred men *(Six hundred men)*
Six hundred reasons to take what we can
So Captain, what's the plan?
*Captain, what's the plan?*
(Odysseus smirked and pointed at the sky).
[Odysseus, *Crew*, **All**]
Watch where the birds fly *(Watch where the birds fly)*
They will lead us to land *(They will lead us to land)*
There we'll hunt for food, my **second in command**
Now full speed ahead!
[Eurylochus, *Eurylochus & Crew*, **Odysseus**]
We're up, we're off, and away we go
*We're up, we're off, and away we go* **(Full speed ahead)**
*We're up, we're off, and away we go*
(Another man appeared).
[Polites]
Captain!
[Odysseus]
Polites!
(Odysseus gave him a wide smile).
[Polites]
Look! There in the distance, I see an island
I see a light that faintly glows
Maybe they're people lighting a fire
Maybe they'll share some food, who knows?
[Odysseus]
Something feels off here, I see fire but there's no smoke
[Eurylochus]
I say we strike first, we don't have time to waste
So let's raid the place and—
[Odysseus, spoken]
No...
[Odysseus]
Polites, gear up, you and I'll go ahead
[Polites]
You and I'll go ahead
[Odysseus]
We should try to find a way no one ends up dead
[Eurylochus]
We don't know what's ahead
[Odysseus, *Crew*, **All**]
Give me 'til sunrise, and if we don't return
Then six hundred men can make this whole place burn
Now full speed ahead, **full speed ahead**
*Full speed ahead*
We're up, we're off, and away we go
*We're up, we're off, and away we go*
Full speed ahead
*We're up, we're off, and away we go*
*We're up, we're off, and a—*
**Full speed ahead**
Chapter 4: Open Arms
Chapter Text
(Odysseus and Polites were walking through a forest).
[Polites]
You can relax, my friend
[Odysseus, spoken]
Huh?
(Polites swung one of his arms around Odysseus’ shoulders).
[Polites]
I can tell you're getting nervous
So do yourself a service
And try to relax my friend
(Odysseus pushed Polites away).
[Odysseus]
I'm fine, Polites
[Polites]
Think of all that we have been through
We'll survive what we get into
I know that you're tired of the war and bloodshed
Tell me, is this how we're supposed to live?
Look at how you grip your sword enough said
Why should we take when we could give?
You could show a person that you trust them
When you stop and lower your guard
Here we have a chance for some adjustment
Give it a try, it's not that hard
I'm telling you
This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms
Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart
No matter the place, we can light up the world
Here's how to start:
Greet the world with open arms
Greet the world with open arms!
(Something appeared. Some sort of creature).
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
Welcome!
(Odysseus swung his sword. They were surrounded by the creatures).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Stay back!
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
Stay back!
[Polites]
My friend, greet the world with open arms
[Odysseus]
We're only here for food
[Lotus Eaters]
Food
[Odysseus]
Six hundred friends are waiting
for us to show our faces
[Lotus Eaters]
Food
[Odysseus]
Stay back, I'm warning you!
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
Food! (Om-nom-nom!)
[Odysseus]
If we don't get back safely
my men will turn this place into blazes!
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
Here you go!
(The creatures held out a basket full of fruits. Fruits that were glowing).
[Polites]
See? This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms
Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart
No matter the place, we can light up the world
Here's how to start:
Greet the world with open arms
Greet the world with open arms!
[Odysseus]
My friend, I wish that I could say that I agree
But look at the way this fruit is glowing and filled with glowing seeds
(Odysseus broke one of the fruits into two pieces).
[Odysseus]
It took me a while to notice what kind of fruit they eat
It's a lotus, it controls your mind and never lets you free
That's what we'd get with open arms.
(Odysseus turned and walked away. Polites turned to the Lotus Eaters).
[Polites]
Lotus Eaters, I'd like to show my friend that kindness is brave
Could you tell me where there's other food to eat?
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
The cave (Scary cave)
[Polites]
A cave! You're saying there's a cave where we could feast?
And where do we sail to find this food-filled cave?
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
East! (That way!)
[Polites]
Thank you!
[Lotus Eaters, spoken]
Welcome!
[Polites]
This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms
I see in your face, there is so much guilt inside your heart
So why not replace it and light up the world
Here's how to start:
Greet the world with open arms
Greet the world with open arms
(Polites once again swung one of his arms around Odysseus’ shoulders. This time he was not pushed away).
[Odysseus]
Greet the world with open arms
[Polites]
You can relax, my friend
Chapter 5: Warrior of the Mind
Chapter Text
(Odysseus stood in the middle of the forest).
[Athena]
Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you?
(He looked around, searching for where the voice came from).
[Odysseus]
Athena!
[Athena]
Have you forgotten to turn off your heart? This is not you
(Odysseus ran, still searching for the voice, and ended up in front of a lake).
[Athena]
I see you changing from how I've designed you
(He knelt in the water, looking at his reflection).
(Odysseus’ reflection’s lips moved as Athena spoke).
[Athena]
Have you forgotten your purpose? Let me remind you
(The reflection pulled Odysseus into the water).
(Odysseus reached the ‘bottom’ and found Athena standing in front of some frescoes).
[Athena]
Goddess of Wisdom, Master of War
My life has one mission, create the greatest warrior
I had a challenge, a test of skill
(On the fresco, a boar moved, attacking a group of men holding spears. They were defeated).
A magic boar only the best could kill
(Athena looked at Odysseus, something akin to pride on her face. Hesitantly, Odysseus smiled).
(On the fresco, a boy jumped in front of the boar).
One day a boy came for the thrill
(The fresco disappeared, replaced by an actual living boy, no older than twelve).
A boy whose skills rivalled the boar's own will
[Young Odysseus]
Let's go!
(The boy — young Odysseus — was shown standing next to the defeated boar).
[Athena]
Maybe one day he'll follow me
And wе'll make a greater tomorrow, thеn they'll see
I know he'll change the world
'Cause he is a warrior of the mind
Maybe one day I'll reach him
And we can build his skills as I teach him
If there's a problem, he'll have the answer
He is a warrior of the mind!
(Young Odysseus stood in the middle of a forest).
[Young Odysseus]
Show yourself
I know you're watching me
Show yourself
I can see you
(Athena materialized in front of him).
[Athena]
How can you see through my spell?
[Young Odysseus, spoken]
Haha! I was lying and you fell for my bluff!
Hahaha-Ha
[Athena]
Well done, enlighten me, what's your name?
[Young Odysseus]
You first, and maybe I'll do the same!
[Athena]
Nice try, but two can play this game
[Young Odysseus, *Ensemble*]
Naw, don't be modest
I know you're a goddess
So let's be honest
You are Athena (*Athena*)
Badass in the *arena*
Unmatched, witty, and *queen of*
The best strategies we've seen
[Athena]
If you're looking for a mentor, I'll make sure your time's well spent
[Young Odysseus]
Sounds like a plan
Goddess and man
Bestest of friends
(Odysseus raised his hand for a high five).
[Athena]
We'll see where it ends
(Athena did not return the high five).
[Young Odysseus]
Okay
(Young Odysseus high-fived himself).
[Athena]
Maybe one day they'll follow me and we'll
[Young Odysseus & Athena]
Make a greater tomorrow, then they'll see
I know we'll change the world
'Cause we are the warriors of the mind
Maybe one day we'll reach them
And we can build their skills as we teach them
If there's a problem, we'll have the answer
We are the warriors of the mind!
(Odysseus and Athena were back in the present).
[Athena]
I still intend to make sure you don't fall behind
Don't forget that you're a warrior of a very special bunch
You are a warrior of the mind!
Don't disappoint me…
Chapter 6: Man of the House
Notes:
Here we are! Our first difference! This isn’t part of a saga, but just kinda its own thing. I included it purely for the Suitors’ lines later, and I like the idea of them singing that because they’re trying to replace Odysseus. Sorry, I’m rambling. Here it is!
Chapter Text
(As his crew sailed towards the island, Odysseus stood on the front of his boat, thinking).
[Odysseus, spoken]
I still remember how I became the man of the house…
(A vision of a young Odysseus and his father played out in Odysseus' mind).
[Odysseus]
When I turned nine, my dad pulled me aside and said—
[Laertes]
Son, I'm going insane
I’m loosing my mind, don’t have much time, and soon
You’ll take over my reign
Your cunningness will make you tough
Cause bravery is not enough!
[Odysseus]
I could tell his time was getting shorter
His voice was getting weaker
He could barely speak!
And all I could think was...
Where is he?
Where is the man who was larger than life?
Where is he?
Where is the man who was sharp as a knife?
Cause in my darkest days the pain was our drive!
Time is fleeing, it's running out!
Time to be the man of the house!
(A vision of Odysseus being crowned king appeared).
At the age of thirteen, I became the third king of Ithaca and did it with pride
The years passed by and it clearly was time for me to find a faithful bride
Everybody wanted Helen of Sparta
I wanted someone smarter
Part of her family tree was the girl for me!
A girl I would give the world to see!
[Ensemble]
Penelope!
(Young Odysseus sees Penelope for the first time).
[Odysseus]
She made every heart in our vicinity soar! Felt like infinity roars!
She was the first thing I had an affinity for!
She's what I saved my virginity for!
Oh! She was the cleverest girl I'd ever seen!
Articulate, serene, the wittiness of my dreams!
I wanted to scream!
[Odysseus, *Penelope*]
And long before we had a chance to meet,
I knew we were thinking the same thing! We were wondering:
Where is he? *Where is he?*
Where is the man who'll have you to wife?
*Where is the man who'll have me to wife?*
Where is he? *Where is he?*
Where is the man with whom you'll spend your life?
*Where is the man with whom I'll spend my life?*
Cause in my darkest days, Penelope's my drive!
*Cause in our darkest days, Penelope's his drive!*
[Ensemble]
Time is fleeting, it's running out
Time to be the man of the house!
Chapter 7: Polyphemus
Chapter Text
(Odysseus and some of his men were in a cave. An arrow flew through the air, killing one of the many sheep present).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Over here!
(The men looked around the cave, impressed).
[Polites]
Look at all this food! Look at all these sheep!
I can't believe this cave has all this for us to keep
[Eurylochus]
I've gotta hand it to you both, this is quite the treat
There are enough sheep here to feed the entire fleet!
(Odysseus turned to face Eurylochus and Polites. He seemed nervous).
[Odysseus]
It's almost too perfect, too good to be true
Why would the lotus eaters pass up on all this food?
(Behind Odysseus, something abruptly appeared. A gigantic red eye opened).
[Polyphemus, spoken]
Who are you?!
(Odysseus turned around to see a huge cyclops standing in front of them, and he looked furious. After a good ten seconds, Odysseus spoke, raising both of his hands).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Hey there!
We're just travelers
We come in peace
[Polyphemus]
You killed my sheep
(Odysseus’ expression turned even more nervous than it already was).
[Polyphemus]
My favorite sheep
What gives you the right to deal a pain so deep?
Don't you know that pain you sow is pain you rеap?
Time to drink
Your blood over where you stand
Your life now is in my hand
Before I'm done
You will learn that it's not so fun to take
You came to my home to steal
But now you'll become my meal
A trade, you see?
Take from you like you took from me
[Odysseus]
There's been a misunderstanding!
We never came here to steal
But now that I see we've done some damage
Maybe you and I can make a deal?
(Eurylochus handed Odysseus an amphora).
I'll give you our finest treasure
So long as we leave alive
You can keep the world's best tasting wine!
(Odysseus gave the amphora to the cyclops).
[Polyphemus, spoken]
Wine?
(Odysseus smiled at the cyclops).
[Odysseus]
Have a drink
One sip and you'll understand
The power that's in your hands
A wine so fresh
You'd never wanna eat human flesh again
(Odysseus took a step back).
Then we shall be on our way
No bloodshed in here today
A trade, you see?
A gift from you and a gift from me
(The cyclops drank the wine).
[Polyphemus]
Ah, I'd like to thank you
Stranger, what's your name?
[Odysseus]
My name is Nobody, Nobody, Nobody
[Polyphemus]
Nobody, for your gift I've one to reply
[Odysseus]
I'm so glad we see eye to eye
(He looked half nervous, half hopeful).
[Polyphemus]
Yes, you shall be the final man to die
(Odysseus’s face fell).
[Odysseus, spoken]
What?
WATCH OUT!!
(The men ran).
Chapter 8: Survive
Chapter Text
[Ensemble]
Po-ly-phe-mus
Po-ly-phe-mus
(The cyclops roared as he stood up, towering over Odysseus and his men).
[Odysseus]
My brothers
The rest of our fleet
They wait at the beach
And if we're defeated, they're good as dead
Straight ahead, that is who we're fighting
[Ensemble]
Po-ly-phe-mus
[Odysseus]
No backup, no chance for support
So draw out your swords
Our foe must be thwarted right here and now
Show me, how great is your will to survive?!
Six hundred lives at stake! It’s just one life to take!
And when we kill him, then our journey's over!
No dying on me now! Defeat is not allowed!
We must live through this day, so
Fight! Fight! FIGHT!
(Odysseus and the men charged towards the Cyclops).
[Odysseus, (Soldiers)]
Surround him! (Surround him!)
Attack from behind, keep distance in mind
And stay in his blindspot and strike his heels! (Strike the heels!)
Show him that we're deadly! (Ha! Ha!)
Exhaust him! (Exhaust him!)
Don't let him get close! He's strong but he's slow!
He can't land a blow if we're out of reach!
Find a breach!
Stand up and fight for your lives!!!
[Soldiers]
Six hundred lives at stake!
It's just one life to take!
And when we kill him then our journey's over!
[Odysseus]
Push forward!
[Soldiers]
No dying on us now!
Defeat is not allowed!
We must live through this day so!
Fight! Fight! FIGHT!
(The soldiers kept attacking the cyclops, gaining the advantage. Facing the assault, the cyclops was forced to back away).
(There was a sound, like something — someone — being hit. A soldier was sent flying into the air — too quickly to discern his face. He crashed into the ground with a sickening thud, a puddle of blood spreading around him).
[Polites, spoken]
Captain…
(Polites lay motionless on the ground, barely breathing).
[Polyphemus, spoken]
Enough
[Soldier, spoken]
He's got a club…
HE'S GOT A CLU-!
(Another swing of the club. Another dead soldier).
[Soldier, spoken]
What are our orders?
Captain? CAPTAI-!
(Another. Odysseus did not react, frozen in place, breathing heavily as blood splattered on his face).
(Another. Another).
[Polyphemus]
You’ve hurt me enough
(Another).
Six hundred lives I'll take
(Another).
Six hundred lives I'll break
(Another).
And when I kill you then my pain is over
(Another. Another. Another).
You're dying here and now
(Another).
Escape is not allowed
(Another).
You won’t live through this day now die
(Another. Another).
Die...
(The cyclops passed out, his body crashing onto the floor and blocking the entrance of the cave).
Chapter 9: Remember Them
Chapter Text
(Odysseus stood, still frozen, blood staining his face).
[Eurylochus]
Captain!
(Eurylochus’ voice sounded far away, as if Odysseus was not quite hearing him).
Captain!
(It became more apparent).
Captain!
(Odysseus snapped out of his shock as Eurylochus put his hand on Odysseus’ shoulder).
[Odysseus]
We must move quickly, we don't have much time
He didn't notice I mixed lotus in his wine
Mark my words now, this is not the end
[Eurylochus]
But captain, what'll we do with our fallen friends?
(Odysseus lowered his head. A single tear escaped him, quickly followed by another. He started to answer, his voice not much more than a whisper).
[Odysseus, *Odysseus & Soldiers*]
Remember them
When the fire begins to fade
For the fallen and afraid
We are not to let them die in vain
(Odysseus raised his head. Though still stained with tears, his face had hardened. When he spoke again, his voice was strong).
*Remember them*
We're the ones who carry on
The flames of those who've gone
And our comrades will not *die in vain*!
[Odysseus]
I need all our hands on his club
This is how we're getting out of here
Use your swords to sharpen the stub
And turn it to a giant spear!
(The soldiers did as ordered, sharpening the stub).
[Soldiers, spoken]
Let's kill him!
[Odysseus]
His body is blocking the path
If we kill him we'll be stuck inside
[Eurylochus]
Captain, where do we attack him?
[Odysseus]
We gotta stab him in the eye!
[Soldiers, spoken]
Yes, sir!
[Soldiers]
Remember them
When the fire begins to fade
For the fallen and afraid
We are not to let them die in vain!
(The soldiers started to carry the spear towards the cyclops’ unconscious body).
[Odysseus & Soldiers]
Remember them!
We're the ones who carry on!
(Odysseus knelt next to Polites’ corpse. He took the headband that Polites always wore, wrapping it around his own forearm).
[Odysseus & Soldiers]
The flames of those who've gone!
And our comrades will not die in vain!
[Odysseus, spoken]
Now!
(The men stabbed the cyclops’ eye, causing blood to spurt out everywhere. The cyclops screamed. He knelt in pain, clearing the entrance).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Scatter!
(Outside of the cave, another cyclops appeared).
[Cyclopes]
Who hurts you?
[Eurylochus, spoken]
There are more of them?!
(Three more cyclops followed).
[Cyclopes]
Who hurts you?
[Odysseus, whispered]
Hide!
(They hid behind a giant rock).
(One more).
[Cyclopes]
Who hurts you?
[Eurylochus]
Captain, we should run!
[Odysseus, spoken]
Wait...
[Cyclopes]
Who hurts you?
(Five more).
[Eurylochus]
Captain, please!
[Odysseus, spoken]
Wait!
[Polyphemus]
It was Nobody, Nobody
[Cyclopes]
If nobody hurts you, be silent
(The other cyclops left).
[Polyphemus, spoken]
Don't go!
[Odysseus]
Let's grab the sheep and away we go
(Odysseus and the soldiers grabbed some sheep and ran).
(Quick thought was activated. Athena appeared and grabbed Odysseus’s wrist).
[Athena]
Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you?
He's still a threat until he's dead
[Athena, spoken]
Finish it!
[Odysseus, spoken]
No...
[Athena, spoken]
No?
[Odysseus]
What good would killing do
When mercy is a skill more of this world could learn to use?
My friend is dead! Our foe is blind!
The blood we shed, it never dries!
Is this what it means to be a warrior of the mind?!
[Athena, spoken]
Don't!
(Having reached the ship, Odysseus, ignoring Athena’s warning, turned around, glaring at the cyclops).
[Odysseus]
Hey, Cyclops!
When we met, I led with peace!
While you fed your inner beast!
But my comrades will not die in vain!
Remember them!
The next time that you dare choose not to spare!
Remember them!
Remember us!
Remember me!!!
I’m the reigning king of Ithaca!
I am neither man nor mythical!
I am your darkest moment!
I am the infamous...
ODYSSEUS!!!
(The ships left. The cyclops, on the island, smiled. It was not a nice smile. It was something dark, sinister).
Chapter 10: My Goodbye
Chapter Text
(Quick-thought was activated).
[Athena]
You are reckless, sentimental at best
That's not a teaching of mine
You’ve grown soft, your dead friends can attest
[Odysseus, spoken]
Hey!
[Athena]
Put your emotions aside
You're a warrior meant to lead the rest!
I don't know where I went wrong
But I warned you, and you failed the test!
So now I’m gone
This way, you'll know what your place is
This way, you can't cross the line
This way, when all is over you'll keep yours and I'll keep mine!
This way, you won't disappoint me
This way, you won't waste my time
This way, I'll close the door
Consider this as my goodbye!
[Odysseus]
That’s just likе you, why should I be surprised?
Selfish and pridеful and vain
Unlike you, every time someone dies
I’m left to deal with the strain
(Odysseus clutched his chiton, right over his heart).
What's a title that a goddess could lend if I’ll never sleep at night?
I'll remind you I saw you as a friend
But now we're done
This way, you're out of my head now!
This way, you won’t plague my life!
This way, when all is done, you're out of sight and out of mind!
This way, you get what you wanted!
This way, you can save your time!
This way, you close the door and have your damn goodbye!!!
[Athena]
You're not looking for a mentor
I'm not looking for a friend
I mistook you for a general
What a waste of effort spent
[Odysseus]
At least I know what I'm fighting for
While you're fighting to be known!
Since you claim you're so much wiser
Why's your life spent all alone?!
You're alone!!!
(Athena was shocked, before looking down. After a moment, she responded).
[Athena]
One day, you'll hear what I'm saying
One day, you might understand
One day, but not today, for after all you're
[Ensemble]
Just a man
[Athena, *Ensemble*]
This day, you sever your own head
This day, you cut the line!
This day, you lost it all
Consider this as my goodbye!
*Oh-oh-oh*
Consider this as my goodbye!
*Oh-oh-oh*
This is my goodbye!
*Oh-oh-oh*
Consider this as my goodbye!
*Oh-oh-oh*
This is my goodbye!
(Athena started to leave. Odysseus looked at her go, his expression something in between sorrow and anger. For a moment, it looked like he might try stop her, but he did not. Quick-thought was deactivated).
Chapter 11: Comfort Zone
Summary:
Yup, here’s the other added song for Act 1. I included this song because I like giving Perimedes and Elpenor some characterization, and it’s just funny for me to visualize Elpenor reacting to Perimedes’ words. I wish the song was longer, but perhaps that’s something I could do another time. Anyways, I present the new opening of ‘The Ocean Saga’!
Notes:
I know that Odysseus apparently only lost 7 men at Polyphemus’ island, but I find that hard to believe, and it doesn’t really matter exactly how many he lost, just that he lost a good number of them
Chapter Text
[Crew]
528 men under his command!
528 men under his command!
528 men under his command!
528—Perimedes!
(Perimedes, along with Elpenor, Odysseus’ third and fourth in command respectively, stood on the deck of the ship. Perimedes looked over at Elpenor).
[Perimedes]
Yo!
Captain's gone soft!
72 of our men are now lost!
[Elpenor]
He hasn’t been the same since Troy,
I heard he had to kill an evil baby boy!
[Perimedes]
Oh, please!
Gimme that baby and I’d throw it off a tower!
(Elpenor widened his eyes).
[Elpenor, spoken]
What?
[Perimedes]
I don't love anybody, that's my power
Cause if I've got nothing to lose,
Then I've got nothing to fear!
And there's no way I'll get bruised
If I don't let anyone near!
Cause it's me myself and I!
Can't fall if I don't fly!
Can't fail if I don't try!
I'm in my comfort zone!
I'm in my comfort zone!
Chapter 12: Storm
Chapter Text
(The sky was covered in dark clouds. It was raining heavily. The ships were surrounded by massive waves).
[Odysseus]
These waves and tides have grown in strength and size
Is it nature or divine or a blessing in disguise?
Our home's in sight, this storm's our final fight
There's no time to die
[Odysseus, spoken]
Comrades!
[Crew, spoken]
Sir!
[Odysseus, (Crew)]
Brace for a storm (Storm)
The likes of which we've never seen before
Brace for a storm (Storm)
With home so close, we must keep pushing forward!
(A wave hit Odysseus, leaving him even more drenched than he already was).
[Soldiers]
Full speed ahead!
[Odysseus]
Head towards the island but avoid the crashing waves!
Tread where the tide is flat and then you will be safе!
[Eurylochus]
Captain, we will capsize with these waves, our fleet will fail!
[Odysseus, (Crew)]
Have them follow my ship, I'll ensure that we prevail!
Storm! (Storm)
[Eurylochus]
We're taking too much damage to survive!
[Odysseus, (Crew)]
We'll beat this storm! (Storm)
[Eurylochus]
At this rate, we won't make it out alive!
[Perimedes & Elpenor, spoken]
Captain, look!
(In the sky was an island).
(Eurylochus’s expression was weary, but Odysseus’s was excited).
[Odysseus & Eurylochus]
An island in the sky...
[Odysseus]
Eurylochus, grab the harpoons.
As many as you can find.
[Eurylochus]
What do you have in mind?
(Odysseus put his arm straight up, extending his pointer finger).
[Odysseus]
We're gonna shoot for the sky.
[Eurylochus]
What?
[Crew]
Storm! Storm!
[Odysseus]
Everyone grab a harpoon and aim it high!
[Crew]
Storm! Storm!
[Odysseus]
We're shooting for the island in the sky!
In the sky!
(Hundreds of harpoons were thrown toward the island).
[Crew]
Storm! Storm!
(A few of the harpoons reached their target. It was more than enough).
Chapter 13: Luck Runs Out
Chapter Text
(Odysseus was getting ready to climb up to the floating island. Eurylochus approached him).
[Eurylochus]
Please don't tell me you're about to do
What I think you'll do.
[Odysseus]
You've heard the legends of the island in the sky
This proves they're true
We're in the home of the wind god.
[Eurylochus]
We don’t know for sure.
[Odysseus]
How many floating islands have you seen before?
This is the home of the wind god.
[Eurylochus]
And what’s your plan?
[Odysseus]
I’m gonna climb to the top and ask him for a hand.
[Eurylochus]
You could be caught off guard and lose your life
Or piss off this god and infuse us with strife
Don’t forget how dangerous the gods are.
[Odysseus]
Have faith, friend, we’ve come this far.
[Eurylochus *& Crew*]
Yes, but *how* much longer til your luck runs out?
*How* much longer til the show goes south?
*How* much longer til we all fall down?
You rely on wit, and people die on it, woah.
[Odysseus]
I still believe in goodness
I still believe that we could be kind
Lead from the heart, and see what starts.
[Eurylochus]
And what will we do when it tears us apart?
[Odysseus]
Where is this coming from, my friend?
[Eurylochus]
I just don’t wanna see another life end
You’re like the brother I could never do without.
[Odysseus]
And suddenly you doubt that I could figure this out?
[Eurylochus *& Crew*]
Captain, *how* much longer til your luck runs out?
*How* much longer til the show goes south?
*How* much longer til we all fall down?
*You rely on wit, and people die on it, woah*.
*How* much longer til the snake breaks free?
*How* much longer til your great days cease?
*How* much longer til your strength takes leave?
*You rely on wit, and people die on it, woah*.
[Odysseus]
Thank you for the concern but brother I can assure you
Our journey is almost done
I understand that we're tired
I understand that we're fazed
But don't forget how much we've already faced
I took 600 men to war and not one of them died there
In case you needed a reminder
If you'd like to speak more, let me pull you aside then
I need to talk to you in private.
(Eurylochus and Odysseus went to the lower deck of the ship).
[Odysseus]
I can't have you planting seeds of doubt
I can't have you disagreeing each route
I need you to always be devout and comply with this
Or we'll all die in this
Okay?
[Eurylochus, spoken]
Okay...
[Odysseus, spoken]
Thank you!
Chapter 14: Keep Your Friends Close
Chapter Text
(Odysseus was on the floating island, surrounded by a beautiful forest).
[Odysseus]
Great Wind God, Aeolus
I don't know if you know this
But our path to home is blocked by an impenetrable storm
I ask for your assistance
So we at last can go the distance
Can you cast the perfect winds for us and aid our journey home?
(Someone tapped on Odysseus’s shoulder. He turned around. It was Aeolus, accompanied by cute little creatures).
[Aeolus]
Ha ha ha!
I am the wind, twisting and turning,
I give the fire enough to keep burning,
Let's play a game.
[Odysseus]
A game?
[Aeolus]
That’s what I’m serving
And if you win, you will get what you’re yearning.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Deal!
(Aeolus held up a bag).
[Aeolus]
Take a look right here at this bag
It has the winds of the storm all trapped
All you gotta do is not open this bag.
[Odysseus]
Sounds too easy, what's the catch?
[Aeolus, *Winions*]
Ha ha ha!
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer,
*Never really know who you can trust*
If they want the bag open, you gotta say "no, sir"
*Sometimes killing is a must*
[Odysseus]
What?
[Aeolus]
Cause the end always justifies the means
Friends turn into foes in rivalries
So keep your friends close and your enemies closer
Never really know who you can trust.
(Odysseus was back on the ship, holding the bag).
[Perimedes]
Captain! What's happening?
[Perimedes and Elpenor]
What's trapped in that bag?
[Odysseus]
Something dangerous, friends!
We mustn't lag!
(The Winions appeared).
[Winions]
It's treasure!
[Odysseus]
What?
[Winions]
Buh-bye!
(The Winions disappeared).
[Perimedes]
Open the bag!
[Elpenor]
Let's see what you got!
[Odysseus]
No, do not!
Everybody listen closely
See how the bag is closed?
That's how it's supposed to be
This bag has the storm inside!
We cannot let the treasure rumor fly!
[Perimedes & Elpenor]
We'll try!
(They did not look, or sound, pleased).
[Aeolus, *Crew*, **Crew & Winions**]
Keep your friends and your enemies closer!
**Never really know who you can trust!**
Now they wanna get the bag open so they can have closure!
**Sometimes, sneaking is a must!**
Cause the end always justifies the means
*Everything's changed since Polites, so!*
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer!
**Never really know who you can trust!**
[Odysseus, *Crew*]
For nine days, I've stayed wide awake
Tryna make it home with no storm or tidal wave
I remain unopposed, the bag is still closed
(He leaned against the railing, body sagging with fatigue. He could see Ithaca).
And I'm getting closer to you...
*Penelope*
(Penelope appeared).
I can't wait to make some new memories...
*Telemachus*
(Telemachus appeared).
Time for me to be the father I never was.
[Odysseus, *Penelope & Telemachus*]
*Just keep your eyes open*
Why are my eyes and my heart and my soul so heavy?
*Just keep your eyes open*
I keep on trying to embrace you both, why won't you let me?!
(Odysseus buried his face into Penelope’s neck).
(Penelope cradled his face in her hand).
*Just keep your eyes open*
So much has changed, but I'm the same, yes I'm the same!
*Just keep your eyes open*
[Crew]
Keep your eyes open…
[Penelope]
Wake up!
Wake up, Odysseus, they're opening the bag
Wake up!
(Odysseus woke up. The wind bag was open, the storm coming out of it. The wave led the ships away from Ithaca).
[Odysseus]
NOOOOO!!!
[Aeolus, *Winions*, **Crew**]
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer
**Never really know who you can trust**
*Never really know who you can trust*
**Storm**
*Full speed ahead*
[Odysseus]
Where's the storm taking us?!
[Aeolus]
I said to keep the bag closed, but you weren't compliant
If I had to guess? You're heading to the
[Aeolus & Winions]
Land of the giants
[Crew]
Storm, storm
[Odysseus]
Help me close the bag!
[Eurylochus]
But sir, it's too late!
[Odysseus]
We can save whatever wind is left to use another day!
Come on!
(Odysseus and Eurylochus managed to close the bag. The fleet came to a halt near the land of the Giants, as Aeolus had said).
[Unknown, spoken]
ODYSSEUS OF ITHACA!!!
Do you know who I am?
Chapter 15: Ruthlessness
Chapter Text
(Odysseus turned around, facing the voice. Waves started crashing violently around the fleet. There in the water, emerged a man with a trident).
[Laestrygonians]
Poseidon! Poseidon!
Poseidon! Poseidon!
Poseidon! Poseidon!
Poseidon!
[Odysseus, spoken]
Poseidon…
[Poseidon]
In all my years of living
It isn't very often that I get pissed off
I try to chill with the waves
But damn, you've crossed the line.
I've been so gracious
And yet, you hurt the son of mine!
That's right, the cyclops you made blind... is mine.
[Odysseus, spoken]
No…
(Poseidon jumped on the ship, making it jostle with his weight).
[Poseidon, *Laestrygonians*]
I'm left without a choice!
And without a doubt!
Guess the pack of wolves is swimming with the shark now!
I've gotta make you bleed!
I need to see you drown!
But before you go, I need to make you learn how
Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!
(Poseidon caught Odysseus by the back of his chiton and threw him away, as if he weighed nothing. Odysseus collided with the railing of the ship).
[Poseidon, *Laestrygonians*]
*Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!*
Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!
Ourselves!
You are the worst kind of good
Cause you're not even great
A Greek who reeks of false righteousness
That's what I hate!
Cause you fight to save lives
But won't kill and don't get the job done
I mean you totally could have avoided all this
Had you just killed my son
But no…
(Poseidon attacked Odysseus with his trident. Odysseus avoided the hits as well as he could. It didn’t even look like Poseidon was trying).
[Poseidon, *Laestrygonians*]
You are far too nice!
Mercy has a price!
It's the final crack we're about to break the ice now!
You reveal your name!
Then you let him live!
Unlike you I've got no mercy left to give cause
Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!
*Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!*
Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!
Ourselves!
(Poseidon went back to the water. He had grown in size. He was now much bigger than the ship).
And now it is finally time
To say goodbye
Today, you die!
Unless, of course, you apologize
For my son's pain
And all his cries.
[Odysseus]
Poseidon, we meant no harm
We only hurt him to disarm him
We took no pleasure in his pain
We only wanted to escape.
[Poseidon]
The line between naïveté and
Hopefulness is almost invisible
So close your heart
The world is dark and—
[Poseidon & Laestrygonians]
Ruthlessness is mercy—
[Poseidon, spoken]
Die.
(The waves — if they could still be called so — grew stronger. They submerged the ships, destroying them, and drowned the men).
[Laestrygonians, (Crew)]
Ruthlessness is mercy upon our- (Captain!)
Ruthlessness is mercy upon our- (Captain!)
Ruthlessness is mercy upon our- (Captain!)
Ruthlessness is
(The waves calmed down).
[Odysseus]
What have you done?
[Ensemble]
When does a ripple become a tidal wave?
[Poseidon]
43 left under your command.
[Ensemble]
When does man become a monster?
[Poseidon]
I am your darkest moment
The monster that always draws near
Any last words?
(Odysseus’s eyes darted around, desperately searching for an escape. He spotted the wind bag, abandoned on the other side of the deck. His expression changed).
[Odysseus]
All I gotta do is open this bag!
[Poseidon]
What?!
(In a swift movement, he threw his sword towards it, slicing it open. The storm was freed. It took the remaining ship away from Poseidon).
(For a moment, Poseidon watched the ship go, remaining silent).
[Poseidon]
Remember me…
(Poseidon disappeared into the water).
(The remaining ship crashed near an island).
Chapter 16: Puppeteer
Chapter Text
(Odysseus and what remained of his men were on the island. Odysseus was sitting on the beach. Eurylochus approached him from behind, a troubled expression on his face).
[Eurylochus]
Captain...
I have something that I must confess
Something that I must get off my chest
Until it is said, I cannot rest.
(Odysseus did not answer).
[Eurylochus]
Captain?
(Odysseus raised a hand, stopping Eurylochus from saying more).
[Odysseus]
Eurylochus
Go make sure this island is secure.
[Eurylochus]
But captain...
(Odysseus pinched the bridge of his nose before running his hand through his hair).
[Odysseus]
There's only so much left we can endure.
Whatever you need to say can wait some more.
Of that, I'm sure.
[Eurylochus]
Okay.
(Eurylochus and a few men disappeared into the forest).
(Some time passed. Eurylochus returned. He seemed disturbed. Afraid).
[Odysseus]
Eurylochus, back so soon?
Where's the rest of your crew?
By the gods, what happened to you?!
[Odysseus]
Eurylochus, back so soon?
Where's the rest of your crew?
By the gods, what happened to you?!
(Odysseus ran to Eurylochus, placing a hand on his shoulder).
[Eurylochus]
We came across a palace
Inside we heard a voice
It seemed to show no malice
To greet it was our choice, but nothing could prepare us for the power
that awaited inside...
[Odysseus]
What did this palace hide?
[Eurylochus]
Sir, since we left home we've faced a variety of foes from a wide range of places
Gods, monsters, you know the roster, hostile creatures that we could resist
But this was a hell of a twist, cause we are weak to a power like this!
[Odysseus, spoken]
What was it?
[Eurylochus, spoken]
A woman!
[Odysseus, spoken]
What?
(A flashback to Eurylochus and his men appeared).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
She had us in just two words.
(A beautiful woman appeared).
[Circe]
Come inside.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Damn!
[Circe]
Welcome to the best part of your lives
Go ahead and rest wherever you like
I got you, don't worry Circe's got you now.
[Eurylochus, spoken]
Only I stayеd outside, but the rest wеnt in.
(The men ran inside).
[Circe, *Soldiers*]
Take a seat *Aye!*
Let me bring you all something to eat *Aye!*
I bet you're tired from the years spent on your feet *Aye!*
I got you, don't worry Circe's got you now.
[Eurylochus, spoken]
By the time they ate, it was far too late.
[Eurylochus, *Circe*]
For inside the meal, *think of your past*
She had cast a spell, *and your mistakes*
They began to squeal, *they'll be the last*
And grow snouts and tails, *mistakes you'll make*
She changed them!
(The men squealed and contorted as if in pain. Circe watched them, her eyes shining yellow).
[Circe]
I got all the power, yeah, I got all the power
No, I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer
No, I don't play, I puppeteer, yeah!
[Eurylochus, *Circe*]
They transformed, *this is the price*
And it wasn't quick, *we pay to live*
She turned our men, *the world does not*
From men to pigs, *tend to forgive*
She changed them!
[Circe]
I got all the power, yeah, I got all the power
No, I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer
No, I don't play, I puppeteer, yeah!
[Odysseus, spoken]
We have to go save them.
(Odysseus tried to leave, but Eurylochus caught his wrist, stopping him).
[Eurylochus]
No we don't!
Look at all we've lost and all we've learned
Every single cost is so much more than what we've earned
Think about the men we have left before there are none
Let's just cut our losses, you are I, and let's run.
[Odysseus]
Of course I'd like to leave now, of course I'd like to run
But I can hardly sleep now knowing everything we've done
There’s no length I wouldn't go if it was you I had to save
I can only hope you’d do the same.
[Eurylochus, *Circe*]
I can hear her still *no one will find*
And her voice deceives *their way between*
What if she can't be killed? *my nymphs and I,*
Will you choose to leave? *their loving queen.*
[Odysseus, spoken]
I don't know.
[Circe]
I've got all the power, yeah, I've got all the power
No, I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer
No, I don't play, I puppeteer, yeah.
[Eurylochus, *Circe*]
She's a clever witch *this is the price*
And she's hard to slay *we pay to love*
It's a game of wits *we draw the line*
But you don't have to play *watch from above.*
[Odysseus, spoken]
I have to try.
[Circe]
I've got all the power, yeah, I've got all the power
No, I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer
No, I don't play, I puppeteer, yeah!
Chapter 17: Wouldn’t You Like?
Chapter Text
(Odysseus was walking through the forest, searching for Circe’s palace. Suddenly, there was a strange giggle. Odysseus looked around but saw no one).
[Unknown]
I must say what a brilliant speech you gave.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Who goes there?
[Unknown]
Just a friend who could help you save your men
A foe like Circe is not to be messed with
You want to beat her?
You'll need the blessing of a certain god
Divine intervention
Someone who's not afraid to send a message.
(The person — god — finally revealed himself).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Hermes?
(Hermes laughed. He flew toward Odysseus and brought him in the air with him).
[Hermes]
Wouldn't you like a taste of the power?
Wouldn't you like to use more than words?
Deep in the night the fight lasts for hours
You can be hurt or you can beat her!
Wouldn't you like to havе some of the magic?
Wouldn't you like your outcomе preferred?
Deep in the night the fight can be tragic
I'll help you conquer her!
She can turn you into an animal that'll end up on her plate!
She can all but make you fall in love like you're on your hundredth date!
She can conjure up a monster that'll grind you to the bones!
She has all the ways to haunt ya when you take her on alone!
[Hermes & Ensemble]
Wouldn't you like a taste of the power?
Wouldn't you like to use more than words?
Deep in the night the fight lasts for hours
You can be hurt or you can beat her!
Wouldn't you like to have some of the magic?
Wouldn't you like your outcome preferred?
Deep in the night the fight can be tragic
I'll help you conquer her!
[Hermes]
Oh, woah!
(Hermes held a flower to Odysseus).
Here in the root of this flower
There lies such a power to take her on
You must consume and digest it
Then you'll manifest a being of your creation
All you need's imagination.
(Hermes raised his hands and brought them down in a circle and created a rainbow as he said ‘imagination’).
Though it's only for a moment
Till you've beaten your opponent!
(Odysseus hesitantly bit the root).
[Hermes, spoken]
And I call this root: Holy Moly
[Odysseus, spoken]
Ah
[Hermes]
Hahahahahaha!
(Odysseus looked rather out of it).
[Hermes & Ensemble, (Odysseus)]
(Oh) Wouldn't you like a taste of the power?
Wouldn't you like to use more than words?
(Oh) Deep in the night the fight lasts for hours
(They were still high — very high — in the air. Hermes suddenly let go of Odysseus who started falling to the ground).
You can be hurt or you can beat her!
(Oh) Wouldn't you like to have some of the magic?
Wouldn't you like your outcome preferred?
(Oh) Deep in the night the fight can be tragic
I'll help you conquer her!
(Hermes caught him at the very last moment. Odysseus looked rather terrified. They were in front of Circe’s palace).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Hermes
Thank you
[Hermes]
Don't thank me friend
You very well may die
Haha, good luck
Chapter 18: Done For
Chapter Text
(Odysseus entered Circe's palace, plastering a polite smile on his face).
[Odysseus]
Lady of the palace,
Sorry that I ask this
But I hope that I’ve been misinformed.
I sent out some scouts to take a look around through here
And they wound up at your doors.
Through the years we seldom
Get a warm welcome,
So I must ask just to be sure:
[Odysseus, spoken]
Did you do something to them?
(Circe was not even looking at him. She had her back to him, facing a mirror).
[Circe]
Who, me? All I did was reveal their true forms.
[Odysseus, spoken]
You turned them into pigs.
[Circe, spoken]
Huh.
(Circe finally turned around).
[Circe]
I don't know who you are nor why you're here,
But let me make this one thing clear:
I‘ve got people to protect,
Nymphs I can't neglect. So I'm not taking chances, dear.
(Circe grew in size. She was now twice as tall as Odysseus. Her eyes had turned yellow).
If you make one wrong move then you're done for!
Anything I don't approve, then you're done for!
I could put a spell on you, and you're done for.
Boy, you better run or soon you will be done for.
(She pointed her wand at him, but he casually pushed it aside with two fingers).
[Odysseus]
I don't mean to tip your scale,
But you will fail at placing any spells on me.
I just ate a flower,
One that claims your power,
So you better cower now and flee.
[Circe]
You must be a liar!
Mortals can't acquire Moly without dire consequence.
(He gave her a cheeky smile).
[Odysseus]
Then I must be a god like you,
Cause I got this root
From the ground with my bare hands.
[Circe, spoken]
Hermes gave it to you, didn't he?
[Odysseus, spoken]
Okay, fine, yes. But regardless!
(Odysseus pointed his sword at her).
[Odysseus]
You and I are now evenly matched!
Our fates are intertwined, they're attached!
[Circe and Odysseus]
I’ve got people to protect!
Friends I can't neglect!
So now there is no turning back!
(Circe conjured a chimera while Odysseus conjured a cyclops).
[Circe and Odysseus]
You've made your one wrong move, now you're done for!
I will be the one to prove that you're done for!
Not even a spell saves you cause you're done for!
Oh you better run or soon you will be done for!
(Odysseus’ cyclops beat Circe’s chimera. Odysseus pressed the tip of his sword against Circe’s throat).
[Odysseus, spoken]
You've lost.
[Circe]
My nymphs are like my daughters, I protect them at all costs.
The last time we let strangers live, we faced a heavy loss.
(Circe let go of her wand, letting it fall to the ground. She looked down at Odysseus with a suggestive expression).
[Circe]
You've given me no reason to bestow you with my trust.
But everyone's true colors are revealed in acts of lust.
[Odysseus, spoken]
I'm not sure I follow.
Chapter 19: There Are Other Ways
Chapter Text
(Odysseus still had his sword pressed against Circe’s throat, but Circe seemed unbothered. She smiled).
[Circe]
There are other ways of persuasion
There are other modes of control
There are other means of deceit
(Odysseus pressed the sword harder, but Circe placed a hand on his arm. Circe snapped her fingers and, around them, curtains fell close).
[Circe]
There are other roads to the soul
There are other actions of passion
You have so much left to learn
Want to save your men from the fire?
Show me that you're willing to burn, woah
(Circe stood behind Odysseus, seductively running her hand over his throat. Odysseus pulled away. Circe walked around him, her eyes glowing yellow).
[Odysseus, (Circe)]
Who's to say, with the mistakes I've made (Don't be afraid)
That they will be the last (Think of your past)
Mistakes I ever make? (Don't break when).
(Circe placed a hand on Odysseus’s cheeks).
[Odysseus & Circe]
There is so much power, so much power
But there's no puppet here.
(Circe pushed Odysseus and he fell back on a kline. Circe crawled over him).
[Circe, (Odysseus)]
This is the price we pay to love (I'm just a man)
There is no line, never enough (I'm just a man!).
(Odysseus turned his head to the side, but Circe placed her hand under his chin encouraging him to face her. She leaned closer. Out of Odysseus’ sight, Circe picked up a dagger, pointing it at the back of Odysseus’ neck).
[Circe, (Odysseus)]
So much power, so much power (Forgive me)
But there's no puppet here
[Odysseus, spoken]
I can't!
(Odysseus pushed her away, standing up. Away from Circe. Away from the dagger).
[Odysseus]
Back at home, my wife awaits for me
She's my everything, my Penelope
And she's all my power, all my power!
But it’s been ten long years!
(Odysseus threw himself back into the Kline, clutching his head into his hands).
[Odysseus]
Oh, ten long years since I have seen my wife!
And now the god of tides is out to end my life
[Odysseus]
(Odysseus knelt down in front of Circe).
[Odysseus]
So I beg you, Circe, grant us mercy
And let us puppets leave
(Circe blinked. For a moment, she stared at him as if he was something she had never seen before, then with a sigh she dematerialized the dagger that she had hidden behind her back).
[Circe, spoken]
(Sigh) Poseidon, eh?
(Circe stood, leading him to another room).
[Circe]
There might be a way to evade him
There might be a way to get home
Though this other way's very dangerous
It might be your one final hope
(She started putting things in a cauldron).
[Circe]
I know of a brilliant prophet
Problem is, this prophet is dead
I can't get you home
But I'll get you to the Underworld instead
I'll release your men
And I'll get you to the Underworld instead
[Odysseus, spoken]
Wait, you're helping us?
[Circe]
There are many ways of persuasion
There are many modes of control
Maybe showing one act of kindness
Leads to kinder souls down the road
I remember actions of passion
I have been in love once before
Maybe one day, the world will need a puppeteer no more!
Oh, maybe one day, the world will need a puppeteer
More!
(Circe turned the men back, using a potion).
[Crew]
So much power, so much power
But there's no puppet here
No, she's not a player, she's a puppeteer
No, she's not a player, she's a puppeteer, yeah!
Chapter 20: The Underworld
Notes:
This is the last change made to act 1. But trust me, there’ll be a lot more in act 2
Chapter Text
(The crew was on their ship. At Odysseus' feet lay a dead sheep. In his hand, Odysseus held a cup filled with its blood).
[Odysseus]
Friends, Circe’s instructions were clear
No matter what we hear.
[Crew]
Full speed ahead.
[Odysseus]
Until we find the prophet
My comrades, this land confuses your mind
So no matter who we find.
[Crew]
Full speed ahead, until we find the prophet.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Good…
(Odysseus poured the blood into the water. Immediately the atmosphere changed. They were in the underworld, surrounded by souls of the dead. Odysseus covered his ears with his hands).
[Odysseus, (Crew)]
All I hear are screams, every time I dare to close my eyes
I no longer dream, only nightmares of those who’ve died
Nothing’s what it seems (Nothing’s what it seems)
And here in the Underworld, the past seems close behind
(This land confuses your mind).
(Under their ship, something changed. Countless human shapes emerged from the water. They looked up at Odysseus).
[Fallen Soldiers]
When does a man become a monster?
558 men who died under your command
(Odysseus froze. In his mind, memories of the cyclops and Poseidon flashed).
[Fallen Soldiers]
Captain! Captain! Captain! Captain!
Why would you let the cyclops live
When ruthlessness is mercy?
[Odysseus, *Crew*, **All**]
All I hear are screams, every time I **dare to close my eyes**
I no longer dream, only **nightmares of those who've died**
*Nothing's what it seems* (Nothing's what it seems)
*But in the Underworld, the past seems close behind*
I keep thinking of the infant from that night
I keep thinking of the infant from that night.
(The ship reached land. A figure appeared in front of Odysseus).
[Fallen Soldiers]
Elpenor!
[Elpenor]
I died, and nobody noticed
I died, and nobody cared.
[Odysseus]
Elpenor, how did this happen?
When did you meet your despair?
[Elpenor]
I drank wine from a chalice
On top of Circe’s palace
And fell and broke my neck in shame.
But what do you care?
So many deaths happen under your reign.
(Elpenor disappeared. Another soul appeared on the land. Polites. Odysseus left the ship, running to him).
[Polites]
This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Polites...
[Polites]
Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart
No matter the place, we can light up the world
Here's how to start
Greet the world with open arms
Greet the world with open arms…
(Odysseus tried to hug him, but went right through him).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Polites….
(Polites disappeared. Odysseus looked heartbroken).
[Anticlea]
Waiting.
[Odysseus, spoken]
That voice, it can't be...
[Anticlea]
Waiting.
(Another soul appeared, also on the land. His mother).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Mom?
[Anticlea]
Waiting
Odysseus, when you come home, I'll be waiting
Even if you're the last thing I see, I'll be waiting.
(She walked through him. She did not see him).
[Anticlea, *Odysseus*, **Both**]
*I'm right here, mom* (Waiting)
*Can't you see? I'm* **waiting**.
(He hugged her. Or well, pretended to. None of them could feel it).
[Anticlea, *Odysseus*, **Both**]
*I took too long* (I'll always love you)
*And ventured too far* (I'll stay in your heart)
*While you were* **waiting, waiting, waiting**.
(Memories flashed again. Odysseus at various ages hugging his mother. As a toddler. As a teenager. As a man, before leaving for war. Anticlea disappeared).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Bye, mom...
[Odysseus, *Crew*, **All**]
All I hear are screams! *All I hear are screams*
Every time I **dare to close my eyes!**
I no longer dream! *I no longer dream*
Only **nightmares of those who've died!**
*Nothing's what it seems* (Nothing's what it seems!)
**But here in the Underworld, your past is always close behind!**
**Your past is always close behind!**
**Down in the Underworld!**
(They walked towards a cave, following an orb).
Chapter 21: No Longer You
Chapter Text
(The prophet was here. Odysseus approached him).
[Tiresias]
I am the prophet with the answers you seek
Time, I've unlocked it
I see past and future running free
There is a world where I help you get home
But that's not a world I know.
[Odysseus, spoken]
What?
(The prophet used the staff he was holding to conjure green smoke. The smoke took the shape of a younger Odysseus and Penelope sharing a kiss).
[Tiresias]
I see a song of past romance
I see the sacrifice of man.
(The smoke took the shape of faceless men, surrounding Odysseus).
[Tiresias]
I see portrayals of betrayal.
(The smoke formed a man, faceless. He held a sword and seemed ready to attack).
[Tiresias]
And a brother’s final stand
I see you on the brink of death
I see you draw your final breath
I see a man who gets to make it home alive
But it’s no longer you.
(Odysseus stared at Tiresias).
[Odysseus]
This can’t be
We’ve suffered and sailed through the toughest of hells
Now you tell us our effort’s for nothing?!
(Men with no distinctive features appeared. They all had a sinister grin on their faces).
[Tiresias]
I see your palace covered in red
Faces of men who had long believed you're dead.
(Penelope with a faceless man).
[Tiresias]
I see your wife with a man who is haunting
A man with a trail of bodies.
(Odysseus grabs Tiresias angrily).
[Odysseus]
WHO?!?!
[Tiresias]
I see a song of past romance
I see the sacrifice of man
I see portrayals of betrayal
And a brother’s final stand
I see you on the brink of death
I see you draw your final breath
I see a man who makes it home alive
But it’s no longer… you.
[Ensemble]
O-dy-sse-us
O-dy-sse-us.
Chapter 22: Monster
Chapter Text
(Odysseus stood alone, looking completely devastated).
[Odysseus]
How has everything been turned against us?
How did suffering become so endless?
How am I to reunite with my estranged?
Do I need to change?
I’m surrounded by the souls of those I’ve lost
I’m the only one whose line I haven’t crossed
What if the greatest threat we’ll find across the sea…
(Odysseus stepped in a puddle and saw his reflection).
Is me?
(Odysseus knelt down at the puddle, and the world faded away, now becoming a black void except for Odysseus and his reflection).
What if I'm the monster?
What if I'm in the wrong?
What if I'm the problem that's
been hiding all along?
(Odysseus slammed the ground in frustration).
What if I'm the one who killed you
Every time I caved to guilt?
(Odysseus fell down on his back).
What if I've been far too kind to foes
But a monster to ourselves?
What if I'm the monster?
(Behind him, a pure black figure had formed, its only noticeable feature being a helmet. Its eyes were white).
Is the cyclops struck with guilt when he kills?
Is he up in the middle of the night?
Or does he end my men to avenge his friend
And then sleep knowing he has done him right?
When the witch turns men to pigs, to protect her nymphs
Is she going insane?
Or did she learn to be colder when she
got older and now she saves them the pain?
When a god comes down and makes a fleet drown
Is he scared that he's doing something wrong?
Or does he keep us in check so we must respect him
And now no one dares to piss him off?
Does a soldier use a wooden horse to kill sleeping Trojans cause he is vile?
Or does he throw away his remorse and
save more lives with guile?!
(Odysseus was now standing up, still in the black void).
If I became the monster, and threw
that guilt away
Would that make us stronger?
Would it keep our foes at bay?
(The pure black figure reappeared, now standing, facing Odysseus).
If I became the monster to everyone but us
And made sure we got home again
Who would care if we're unjust
If I became the—
[Ensemble]
Monster.
[Odysseus]
Oh, ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.
[Ensemble]
Monster.
[Odysseus]
And deep down I know this well
I lost my best friend, I lost my mentor, my mom
500 men gone, this can't go on!
I must get to see Penelope and Telemachus
So if we must sail through dangerous oceans and beaches
I'll go where Poseidon won't reach us
And if I have to drop another infant from a wall
In an instant so we all don't die?!
(The figure extended its hand to Odysseus. Odysseus took it, and half of his body became black).
[Odysseus *& Ensemble*]
Then I'll become the *monster!*
I will deal the blow!
And I'll become *the monster* like none they've ever known!
So what if I'm *the monster* lurking deep below?!
I must become the *monster* and then we'll make it home!
[Odysseus, (Ensemble)]
(Monster) Penelope
(Monster) Telemachus
(Monster) Oh, ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves
(Monster) I'll become the monster.
Chapter 23: Suffering
Chapter Text
(The was nothing, except a sort of fog).
[Sirens]
Penelope (Ah; ooh)
(The fog dispersed, revealing… Penelope, in the middle of the ocean on a rock).
[Sirens]
Penelope (Ah; ooh)
(On the ship, Odysseus approached the railing).
["Penelope"]
Don't you miss me?
(He leaned against the railing, a tender look in his eyes).
[Odysseus]
More than you know.
[“Penelope”]
Then jump in the water and kiss me.
[Odysseus]
Penelope, I’ve told you this before
You know I’m afraid of the water.
["Penelope"]
I'll make sure that you are safe and sound
Come play with me and our daughter
And let's watch our love leave the ground.
[Odysseus, *“Penelope”*]
Oh, I would
But I’d be suffering trying to float the whole time
*I would take the suffering from you*
Ooh, as good as that sounds, right here I’m just fine
*I can take the suffering from you*
You know that I prefer my feet on the ground
*I will take the suffering from you*
Fine, but only if you answer a question or two.
["Penelope", spoken]
Of course!
[Odysseus, spoken]
Okay! So, let's say I was on the run. Or hiding!
From, I don't know, Poseidon?
And let's say he blocked the way home
With giant waves and giant storms!
["Penelope", spoken]
Oh no...
[Odysseus]
How am I to evade him?
How am I to get home?
Which route should I take?
Where am I supposed to go?
["Penelope"]
He will chase you high and low
So find a place he'd never go
The one way you'll get home
Is sailing where he's scared to roam, oh
It's through the lair of Scylla.
(Odysseus’ face turned horrified).
[Odysseus, spoken]
No...
["Penelope"]
This is your only way home
The lair of Scylla.
[Odysseus, spoken]
But Scylla has a cost…
["Penelope"]
Well, you asked and now you know.
["Penelope", spoken]
Now jump in the water!
[Odysseus, *“Penelope”*]
Penelope, why?
You know I’m too shy and terrified
*I would take the suffering from you*
Ooh, for you I would die
But can’t you let me stay dry?
*I can take the suffering from you*
You should come onto the ship
We’ll jump at the same time
*I will take the suffering from you*
(Sigh) The things I do for you…
(Odysseus crouched, as if searching for something. He was now holding a bow).
Chapter 24: Different Beast
Chapter Text
(Odysseus’ arrow lodged itself into the siren’s chest. The siren screamed, returning to her true form).
[Odysseus]
Let's cut the charade, you are no wife of mine!
You've been tryin' to take my life this whole time!
I know underwater, there are packs of you hiding
Yeah, I know exactly what you are, a siren.
(The siren hissed at Odysseus).
[Odysseus]
My real wife knows I'm not scared of the water!
And my real wife knows I don't have a daughter!
(Odysseus caught the siren with a rope and dragged her onto the ship).
[Odysseus]
But while you were so focused on turning my men into snacks
You didn't notice that your friends got snatched.
(The other sirens were caught in a net).
[Siren, spoken]
What?!
(The siren tried to attack Odysseus, but Eurylochus held her back).
[Odysseus]
We are a different beast, now,
We are the ones who feast, now.
No more of us deceased,
‘Cause we won’t take more suffering from you.
[Odysseus & Crew]
We are the man-made monsters,
We are the ones who conquer,
You are a threat no longer—
We won't take more suffering from you.
(Odysseus crouched in front of the siren).
[Odysseus]
We've been away from home for
About twelve years or so
First, we slayed in our own war
And now, we're here with more foes
While on the run from Poseidon
We found a ship with no crew
I realized nearby, there were sirens
Singing sailors to their dooms
We filled our ears with beeswax
That's how we resist your song.
(He caught the siren’s jaw).
[Odysseus]
You pretended to be my wife
So I just played along
I read your lips and phrases
Scanning for information.
(Standing up, he let go of the siren).
[Odysseus]
Sirens know about every route and horizon
Now I know how to get back to my island!
(The men surrounded the sirens who looked up at them in fear).
[Crew]
We are a different beast now
We are the ones who feast now
No more of us deceased
'Cause we won't take more suffering from you
We are the man-made monsters
We are the ones who conquer
You are a threat no longer
We won't take more suffering from you.
[Sirens]
Spare us
Oh, spare us, please.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Why?!
[Odysseus]
So you can kill the next group of sailors in this part of the sea?
Nah, you wouldn't have spared me.
I made a mistake like this—it almost cost my life.
I can't take more risks of not seeing my wife!
Cut off their tails! We're ending this now!
Throw their bodies back in the water
Let them drown.
[Sirens, spoken]
NO!
[Crew]
He is a different beast now
He is the one who feasts now
No more of us deceased
'Cause he won't take more suffering from you
He is the man-made monster
He is the one who conquers
You are a threat no longer
He won't take more suffering from you.
[Odysseus, (Crew)]
Kill them all! (Oh, woah-oh, woah-oh, woah)
Kill them all! (Oh, woah-oh, woah-oh, woah)
Kill them all! (Oh, woah-oh, woah-oh, woah)
Kill 'em all!
[Crew]
Oh, woah-oh, woah-oh, woah
Odysseus.
Chapter 25: Scylla
Chapter Text
(The ship entered what looked like a cave. It was dark inside).
[Odysseus]
The lair of Scylla
This is our only way home.
[Scylla]
Deep down.
[Eurylochus, spoken]
You're quiet today.
[Scylla]
Deep down.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Not much to say...
[Scylla *& Crew*]
*Deep down*, you hide a reason for shame.
[Eurylochus]
I've got a secret I can no longer keep.
[Scylla *& Crew*]
*Deep down*, you know that we are the same.
(Odysseus’ eyes narrowed at Eurylochus).
[Eurylochus]
I opened the wind bag while you were asleep
(Odysseus’ face went blank. Emotionless. He did not look surprised but resigned. As if he had known but had hoped to be wrong).
[Scylla, (Eurylochus)]
Leaving them feeling betrayed
Breaking the bonds that you've made (I'm so sorry)
There is no price we won't pay (Forgive me)
We both know what it takes to survive
[Crew]
Full speed ahead
(Full speed ahead)
Full speed ahead
Full speed ahead
[Scylla *& Crew*]
*Deep down*, we only care for ourselves
[Odysseus]
Eurylochus, light up six torches
[Scylla]
Deep down, we're lonely demons from hell
(Eurylochus still held a torch).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
Captain! Something approaches...
[Scylla, spoken]
Hello...
(There was a woman in the water with a skin too pale to be natural, long dark hair, and too wide eyes. The rest of her body emerged from the water. Revealing six long necks).
[Odysseus]
Row for your lives!
(Scylla was attacking the men, swallowing them).
[Scylla]
Drown in your sorrow and fears!
Choke on your blood and your tears!
Bleed 'til you've run out of years!
We must do what it takes to survive!
(Scylla aimed for Eurylochus. Eurylochus let go of the torch. It fell to the deck and another soldier picked it up. He was swallowed).
[Scylla]
Give up your honor and faith!
Live up your life as a wraith!
Die in the blood where you bathe!
We must do what it takes to survive!
(The ship exited the lair).
[Scylla *& Odysseus*]
We are the same, you and I, *I*
Chapter 26: Mutiny
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
(The ship was covered in blood. Eurylochus was looking around in horror, his eyes wide. Emotions shone in his eyes. Fear and betrayal. He looked at Odysseus who had his back to him).
[Eurylochus]
Tell me, you did not know that would happen,
Say, you didn't know how that would end,
Look me in the eyes and tell me, Captain,
That you did not just SACRIFICE SIX MEN!
Use your wits to try and say I'm crazy and mad!
That this is all some trick the gods have sent!
Tell me you did not miss home so painfully bad
That you gave up the lives of six of our friends!
When we fought the cyclops
You were quick to hatch a plan!
And when we fought with Circe
It was you who left behind no man!
But when we saw this monster, we didn't take a stand!
We just ran!
(Odysseus did not answer. He stared ahead at the sea).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
SAY SOMETHING!!!
[Odysseus, spoken]
I CAN’T!!!
(Odysseus finally turned around, glaring at Eurylochus. There was a moment of silence. The crew seemed dumfounded).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
Then you have forced my hand...
(Eurylochus unsheathed his sword).
[Crew]
Eurylochus.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Lower your weapon!
[Eurylochus, spoken]
No can do.
[Eurylochus]
You miss your wife so bad
You trade the lives of your own crew!
[Odysseus]
Don't make me fight you, brother
You know you'd have done the same!
[Eurylochus]
If you want all the power
You must carry all the BLAME!
(Eurylochus swung his sword. Odysseus dodged the blow and riposted. Both men kept exchanging blows).
[Crew]
Eurylochus, Eurylochus, Eurylochus
Odysseus, Odysseus, Odysseus
There is no price he won't pay
(Odysseus kicked Eurylochus in the stomach. Eurylochus fell to the ground. Odysseus raised his sword over his head, about to bring it down on Eurylochus).
[Odysseus]
I AM NOT LETTING YOU GET IN MY WAY!
(Before he could bring his sword down, Odysseus was stabbed by Perimedes. Odysseus gasped for air).
[Odysseus, spoken]
My brothers, why?
(Perimedes kicked Odysseus off his sword).
[Perimedes]
How are we supposed to trust you now?
(The men surrounded Odysseus).
[Crew]
Now your time has come, your luck's run out
Now, the time has come to shut you down
You relied on wit, and then we died on it, woah.
(Eurylochus stood and knocked Odysseus out. Odysseus woke up. His wound was bandaged, and his hands were tied to a statue behind him. He no longer seemed to be on the ship).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Argh, my head
Where are we?
(There was a sound. A moo).
[Eurylochus]
Some island
The first one we found, it's bursting with cows
Just roaming around, begging us to eat
So much meat, and hunger is so heavy
This statue, the god of the sun
Don't know where it's from
But here's where we found all these cows to hunt
Right in front, and hunger is so heavy.
[Crew]
Hunger is so heavy.
[Odysseus]
Please don't tell me you're about to do
What I think you'll do.
[Eurylochus, *Odysseus*]
Ody, we're never gonna make it home
You know it's true
*You don't know that's true*
*This is the home of the sun god*
I'm starving, my friend
*But if you kill his cattle, who knows what he'll send?*
*This is the home of the sun god*
I'm tired, my friend!
*But we're so close to home, this can't be where it ends*.
[Eurylochus, spoken]
Ends? (Chuckles). You just don’t get it.
[Eurylochus]
I just wanted to
Get us all back home, but
You wouldn’t let us
No, you just betrayed us
And I once saw you
As my own brother
But now I see that
You’re just a monster.
[(Odysseus), Crew]
When does a ripple become a tidal wave?
When does the reason become the blame? (Eurylochus)
When does a man become a monster? (Forgive me)
When does a man become a monster? (Please…).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
No….
[Eurylochus]
You are no man….
[Eurylochus, *Odysseus*]
How much longer must I suffer now?
*Please don't do this*
How much longer must I push through doubt?
*I need to get home*
How much longer must I go about
*Eurylochus*
My life like this, when people die like this? Woah.
[Eurylochus & Crew, *Odysseus*]
How much longer must we suffer now?
*Reconsider*
How much longer must we push through doubt?
*We can get home*
How much longer must we go about
*Eurylochus*
Our lives like this, when people die like this? Woah.
[Eurylochus]
I'm just a man!
[Odysseus, spoken]
Eurylochus, NO!!!
(Eurylochus slit one of the cattle’s throat).
[Odysseus, spoken]
You've doomed us
YOU'VE DOOMED US ALL, Eurylochus!!!
(Eurylochus looked at Odysseus, fear in his eyes).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
Captain?
(Odysseus finally managed to untie himself).
[Odysseus]
We need to get away from this island now!
Grab an oar with all the strength your arms allow!
These cows were immortal, they were the sun god's friends
And now that we've pissed him off
WHO DO YOU THINK HE'LL SEND?!
[Crew, (Odysseus)]
Full speed ahead
Full speed ahead (Faster!)
Full speed ahead (Faster!)
Full speed ahead
(There was a clap of thunder).
[Odysseus, spoken]
...We're too late.

Chapter 27: Thunder Bringer
Chapter Text
(Thunder clapped, loud and deafening, collecting by a flash of lightning. HE appeared in the sky, surrounded by thick clouds. The men looked up at him, frozen in fear. Zeus began walking down through the air towards the men. As he did, a woman was formed from the clouds. Zeus held her like one would a lover).
[Zeus]
Pride is a damsel in distress
Hiding away where only I can undress her
Try all she can not to confess
In the end, it's all the same once I apply all the pressure.
(Zeus increased the air pressure, causing Odysseus and all of his crew to cover their ears. Zeus had made his way to the ship, and began walking on it).
[Zeus]
Thunder, bring her through the wringer
Show her I'm the judgment call
The one who makes her kingdom fall
Lightning, wield her, use and yield her
Show her what she can't conceal
For true nature will be revealed.
(Zeus held a lightning bolt in his hand).
[Zeus]
Tell me, Odysseus,
If I were to make you choose,
The lives of your men and crew or your own,
(Zeus pointed at Odysseus’ crew with his lightning bolt, and then at Odysseus).
[Zeus]
Why do I think they'd lose?
(Odysseus looked nervous, and a little guilty).
[Zeus]
Enlighten me, King of Ithaca,
Since hunger was far too great.
I wonder who'd take the weight of the damned
And suffer a gruesome fate to the...
(Zeus had conjured a whip of lightning and began whirling it, hitting several of Odysseus’ crew).
[Zeus]
Thunder bringer, here to ring your
Ears until you’re deaf with fear!
And spear you while your death is near!
Lightning wielder, here to yield your
Time, for you have passed your prime!
Sublime you for your act of crime!
(Zeus now pointed another bolt directly at Odysseus).
[Zeus, spoken]
Choose.
(Odysseus looked scared and nervous).
[Odysseus, spoken]
…Choose?
[Zeus]
Someone’s gotta die today
And you have got the final say.
[Zeus, spoken]
You? Or your crew?
(Odysseus’s expression was helpless and desperate. He brought his hands to his face).
[Odysseus]
Please don't make me do this…
Don't make me do this…
[Crew]
When does a comet become a meteor?
When does a candle become a blaze?
(Penelope appeared).
[Crew, *Penelope*]
*I can take the suffering from you*
When does a man become a monster?
When does a ripple become a tidal wave?
When does the reason become the blame?
When does a man become a monster?
*Let me take the suffering from—*
(Penelope disappeared).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
...Captain?
(He looked resigned as if he knew, but there was a tiny bit of hope).
[Odysseus, spoken]
I have to see her.
[Eurylochus, spoken]
But we'll die.…
[Odysseus, spoken]
…I know.
(The men — except Eurylochus — ran towards Odysseus, about to attack him. Zeus fled higher in the sky).
[Zeus]
Thunder, bring her through the wringer
Show her I'm the judgment call
The one who makes her kingdom fall
Lightning, wield her, use and yield her
Show her what she can't conceal
For true nature will be revealed.
(A ball of lightning formed in Zeus’ huge hand. He sent it down. It hit the men. Nothing was left of them. The ship was destroyed. Odysseus ended up in the water, looking unconscious, seemingly sinking).
Chapter 28: Legendary
Chapter Text
(7 years later. A city was shown, then a palace. Finally, the vision focused on a young man).
[Telemachus]
It's just me, myself, and I
Stuck in my bedroom, living in this world you left behind
Dreaming of all these monsters that I'll never get to fight
But boy, I wish I could, so I could bring the world some light.
Cause I'm stuck with your stories
But no clue who you are
And no idea if you're dead or just too far
Somebody tell me, come and give me a sign
If I fight those monsters, is it you I'll find?
If so, then…
Give me sirens and a cyclops
Give me giants and a hydra
I know life and fate are scary
But I wanna be legendary!
I’ll fight the harpies and chimeras
The Minotaur, even Cerberus
I know life and fate are scary
But I wanna be l-l-l-l-legendary!
(Telemachus left his bedroom, walking through the palace).
There are strangers in our halls
Trying to win the heart of my mom
But she is standing tall
108 old faces of men who call me small
They keep taking space and it's not much longer we can stall.
Cause they're getting impatient, dangerous too
And I would fight them if I was half as strong as you
Somebody help me, come and give me the strength.
(Outside, an owl looked through a window).
[Telemachus]
Can I do whatever it takes to keep my mom safe?
If so, then…
Give me sirens and a cyclops
Give me giants and a hydra
I know life and fate are scary
But I wanna be legendary!
I’ll fight the harpies and chimeras
The Minotaur, even Cerberus
I know life and fate are scary
But I wanna be legendary!
(Telemachus entered a room filled with suitors).
[Suitors]
Where is he?
Where is the man who'll have you to wife? Oh, woah!
Where is he? Where is the man with whom you'll spend your life?
Cause it’s been 20 years.
[Telemachus]
20 years.
[Suitors]
And we're still have no king.
[Telemachus]
Give me a chance, a single opportunity,
And I'll overcome these obstacles and scrutiny and—
(Suddenly, Telemachus’s wrist was caught in a harsh grip. He looked to see Antinous, the leader of the suitors).
[Antinous]
Boy!
When’s your tramp of a mother gonna choose a new husband?
[Suitors]
Oh, woah!
[Antinous]
Why don't you open her room so we can have fun with her?
[Telemachus]
Don't you dare call my mother a tramp!
[Suitors]
Oh, woah!
[Antinous, spoken]
I just did!
Whatchu gonna do about it, champ?
[Telemachus]
Somebody tell me
Come and give me a sign
If I fight this monster
Is it you I'll find?
(Telemachus raised his fists into a fighting stance).
Chapter 29: Little Wolf
Chapter Text
(Telemachus stood in a fighting stance, while Antinous just stood casually).
[Antinous, *The Suitors*]
*Fight, little wolf, fight*
Wanna entertain me?
*Bite, little wolf, bite*
Let's see how you take this.
(Telemachus threw the first punch, but Antinous easily dodged. Telemachus kept trying but his hits never reached his intended target).
[Antinous, *The Suitors*]
*Strike, little wolf, strike*
Wanna be a man? Then
*Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf, fight*.
(Antinous grabbed Telemachus by the back of his collar, throwing him to the ground. Antinous stood over Telemachus. Confident, cocky).
[Antinous]
You've made your worst mistake here,
Might be your last one too
You'll have run out of bones to break
When you and I are through
I'll teach you all the lessons
Your daddy never could.
(Antinous wrapped a hand around Telemachus’s neck, strangling him).
[Antinous]
This cruel world doesn't give out presents
just for being good, So.
(Telemachus managed to dislodge Antinous’s hand. Bringing it to his mouth, he bit. Antinous did not look disturbed in the slightest. Telemachus attacked again, but once again Antinous easily dodged).
[Antinous, *The Suitors*]
*Fight, little wolf, fight*
Wanna entertain mе?
*Bite, little wolf, bite*
Lеt's see how you take this
*Strike, little wolf, strike*
Wanna be a man? Then
(He threw Telemachus back. Telemachus landed in the crowd of suitors, who threw him back towards Antinous).
[Antinous, *The Suitors*]
*Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf, fight*.
(Antinous punched Telemachus hard in the jaw. Hard. Then he did it again, and again, and again. Telemachus attempted but failed to defend himself).
[Antinous, *The Suitors*]
Or die, little wolf, die!
Don't you know it's fight or
*Fly, little wolf, fly!*
All because you had to
*Try, little wolf try!*
Run away before you
*Die, little wolf, die, little wolf, die!*
(Antinous was about to land another punch when the world seemingly came to a stop. Athena appeared).
[Athena, spoken]
Need some help?
[Telemachus]
What's going on here?
[Athena]
Is your plan to stand around?
Cause I suggest you fight back.
[Telemachus]
I don't know how.
[Athena, spoken]
Uppercut him, now.
(Telemachus did).
[Telemachus]
Woah, how did I do that?
Is time now moving slow?
[Athena]
No, I just made your thoughts quick.
[Telemachus, spoken]
Woah, that is so sick!
[Athena, spoken]
Alright now, let's try this again.
(Athena snapped her fingers and Telemachus’s injuries disappeared).
[Athena]
I’ve no respect for bullies,
Those who impose their will
I’ve seen plenty enough to truly understand this kind of filth!
Let’s teach this dog a lesson
In front of all his kind!
One young wolf has a larger heart than all these men combined!
(Time unfroze, though Athena wasn’t able to be seen by the suitors. Antinous threw another punch, but this time Telemachus dodged).
[Athena]
Fight, little wolf, fight!
Show them that you've got some
Bite, little wolf, bite!
Take advantage now and
Strike, little wolf, strike!
(A punch landed, but Telemachus hit Antinous back).
[Athena]
Don't go down without a
Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf!
Get up and fight!!!
(Telemachus head-butted Antinous. The two men continued to exchange blows after blows).
[Suitors, (Athena)]
Fight, little wolf, fight!
Wanna entertain us? (Oh)
Bite, little wolf, bite!
Let's see how you take this (Strike!)
Strike, little wolf, strike!
Wanna be a man? Then (Oh)
Fight, little wolf, fight!
Fight, little wolf!
Fight!
(Antinous caught Telemachus by the front of his clothes, he used his grip to lift Telemachus and throw him to the ground).
[Athena, spoken]
Oh! Maybe I pushed you a bit too hard…
(Telemachus groaned, grimacing in pain. He raised a hand to the back of his head and brought it back in front of his face. It was covered in blood).
[Telemachus, spoken]
Ow...
[Antinous]
Go back and cry in your corner
Make sure your mother hears
If she won't choose a man to adorn her
We'll bring blood and tears.
(Telemachus now stood on the balcony of his bedroom).
[Telemachus]
Tell me, Athena, why you came to my aid.
Chapter 30: We’ll Be Fine
Chapter Text
(Telemachus and Athena stood on the balcony).
[Athena]
I had a friend before, and
He was a lot like you.
I helped him fight through war, but
He had his demons too.
And then we grew apart
Then his light went dark…
And so, I thought
Maybe, if I’d made a different call
Maybe, if I hadn’t missed it all
Maybe he’d be fine
Maybe we’d unwind
Maybe, if I help another soul
Maybe, if I helped you reach your goal
Life could be that bright
I could sleep at night.
[Telemachus]
Athena, I don't know who your friend is,
I don’t know what’s he’s like, but
My time with you has been splendid!
The best day of my life!
Cause I got in a fight, and I didn't die!
I’ve never felt strong before!
You’re my friend, I couldn’t ask for more!
(Telemachus climbed on the railing of the balcony).
And so, I think
Maybe, if life wasn't spent as planned
Maybe, it's time that you lend a hand
I don't think he'll mind
If not his friend, then mine!
(He fell. Before he could meet the ground, Athena caught him).
[Telemachus *& Athena*]
*Maybe*, to fall is to learn one way
*Maybe*, it's all gonna turn out great
I know we'll be fine
I know it's light you'll find!
(Telemachus raised his hand for a high-five, like Odysseus had decades ago. Athena hesitated but then she smiled. She gave him a high-five).
[Athena]
You're a good kid.
[Telemachus, spoken]
Thanks!
Chapter 31: Love In Paradise
Chapter Text
(Athena was in a big room. Around her, various images of Odysseus floated).
[Athena]
Old friend, it's been ten years since I last saw you.
(Odysseus was shown, standing on his ship after the confrontation with the cyclops).
[Odysseus]
Remember me! I am the infamous...
ODYSSEUS!!!
[Crew]
Oh, woah, woah, woah.
[Athena]
Let's see where you've been.
(The wind god talking to Odysseus).
[Aeolus]
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
(Poseidon, furious).
[Poseidon]
Ruthlessness is mercy upon oursel—
(Circe, angry).
[Circe]
One wrong move and you're done for!
Anything I—
(The prophet).
[Tiresias]
—song of past romance
I see the—
(The crew surrounding the sirens).
[Crew]
We won't take more suffering from you.
(Scylla, looming over Odysseus’s ship).
[Scylla]
Drown in your sorrow and fears!
(Eurylochus looking at Odysseus, resignation in his eyes).
[Eurylochus, spoken]
...Captain?
[Odysseus, spoken]
I have to see her.
[Eurylochus, spoken]
But we'll die...
[Odysseus, spoken]
...I know.
[Athena, spoken]
Odysseus, where did you go?
(An island was shown. Odysseus was sleeping — or perhaps unconscious — on a beach. Odysseus opened his eyes and came face to face with a woman).
[Calypso]
Morning, sleepyhead, you've been resting for a while
I swore that you were dead when you washed up on my isle.
(She started to bandage a wound on his arm).
Did you know you talk in your sleep?
Tell me, though, who's Penelope?
[Odysseus]
She’s my wife.
(An uncomfortable silence stretched. The woman’s eyes twitched. Odysseus looked confused).
[Calypso]
Anyways, I've got all you could want here
All you could need here.
(A few days seemed to pass with Calypso showing Odysseus various places around the island).
Just you and me, my dear, my love for life.
(She pulled aside a curtain, revealing a bed).
Soon, into bed we'll climb and spend our time.
(Odysseus turned away, leaving).
[Odysseus]
I'm not your man.
(Calypso followed him. Once again, many days seemed to pass with Odysseus trying to avoid Calypso but Calypso always somehow finding him).
[Calypso]
I'm what you want here, I'm what you need here
Just you and me, my love in paradise
Now 'til the end of time
From here on out, you're mine, all mine.
(She leaned close to him, attempting to grab the front of his clothes. Odysseus shoved her away and pointed his sword at her).
[Odysseus]
Hell no, I could kill you where you stand!
I'm no pet, I'm a married man!
(The woman casually pushed the sword aside with two fingers).
[Calypso]
Oh handsome, you may try
But last I checked, goddesses can't die.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Goddess?
[Calypso]
You're adorable
Bow down now to the immortal Calypso, here to entertain
But fear not, I bring no pain
'Cause we got.
(Days went by again).
All we could want here, all we could need here
Under my spell, we're stuck in paradise
No one can come or go, my island stays unknown.
(She placed a hand on his cheek, but Odysseus pushed it away. Odysseus tried to leave, walking toward the sea).
[Odysseus]
No, no, I don't belong here
There's something wrong here
I won't be drawn to love in paradise
Not 'til the end of time, there is no way.
(Calypso wrapped her arms around him from behind).
[Calypso]
You're mine, all mine.
[Athena]
Seven years she's kept you trapped, outta your control
Time can take a heavy toll.
(Odysseus stood on a ledge in the middle of a rain storm. Calypso walked up behind him).
[Calypso, spoken]
Odysseus?
[Odysseus]
All I hear are screams….
[Calypso, spoken]
Ody, get away from the ledge!
(Odysseus spun around, his sword drawn, and pointed it straight at Calypso. His expression was one of fury).
[Odysseus]
You don’t know what I’ve gone through!
You don’t know what I’ve sacrificed!
Every comrade I long knew!
Every friend, I saw them die!
And all I hear are screams...
[Calypso]
It will be fine, dear, come back inside, dear
Love of my life, come back to paradise.
[Odysseus]
Let me close my eyes—
[Calypso]
I know your life's been hard, I'll stay inside your heart.
[Odysseus]
All I hear are screams!
[Calypso]
I love you, my dear, I love our time here
Life would be so much worse if you had died.
(Odysseus fell to his knees, clutching his head).
[Odysseus]
Just let me close my eyes!
[Calypso]
Please stay away from harm, stay in my open arms
[Odysseus]
All I hear are—
(Odysseus finally looked at her. In his eyes, Calypso morphed into Polites. Behind Polites stood Eurylochus and Anticlea. All fibers of Odysseus’s imagination).
[Polites, *Eurylochus*, **Anticlea**, (Odysseus)]
This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms
*How much longer 'til your luck runs out?*
**Waiting, waiting, waiting**
Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart
*How much longer 'til the show goes south?*
(Oh)
No matter the place, we can light up the world
Here's how to start
*How much longer 'til we all fall down? You rely on wit—*
(Oh)
**Waiting, waiting**
Greet the world with open arms
Greet the world with open—
[Odysseus]
Athena!!!
[Athena]
...He needs my help.
Chapter 32: God Games
Summary:
I’ll preface this by saying that this is a LOT longer than the original, as I have added parts for other gods. I was inspired by the video ‘God Games with more gods!’ by GestoordVarken. The individual credits for the added parts are in the description of that video
Chapter Text
(Athena was… somewhere. She opened a huge — very huge — door).
[Athena]
Father, God King, rarely do I ask for favors
Now, I'm knocking on your door
With hopes to save a friendship
With one who's a prisoner far from home…
Odysseus.
[Zeus]
Divine intervention, is that what you seek?
To untie apprehensions that were placed on that Greek?
You are playing with thunder for a man full of shame
But if he's worth the risk of going under…
[Zeus, spoken]
Why not make it a game?
Convince each of them that he ought to be released,
And I'll release him.
[Athena, spoken]
Who's them?
[Zeus, spoken]
Apollo! Hephaestus!
Aphrodite! Ares!
Hera! Hades!
Artemis! Persephone!
Dionysus! Hestia!
Or me
What do you say?
[Apollo, spoken]
Great!
[Hephaestus, spoken]
Very well.
[Aphrodite, spoken]
Eh...
[Ares, spoken]
Alright!
[Hera, spoken]
Groovy!
[Athena, spoken]
Bring it!
[Ensemble]
Apollo.
(Apollo played his lyre).
[Apollo]
You all know I’m a fan of catchy songs
So with so many sirens gone
I think Ody’s in the wrong.
[Athena]
They were trying to do him worse
All he did was reimburse them
Now they’ll tread with caution first
To live another day and sing another verse.
[Apollo, spoken]
If that’s true, release him.
[Ensemble]
Hephaestus.
(Hephaestus was forging something. He did not even look at Athena).
[Hephaestus]
Trust is not given, it's forged
Why should I give him my support?
He sacrificed his own cohort.
[Athena]
Did you forget they failed to listen?
He was betrayed and then imprisoned
But if you make the right decision
He can still build a future with those who miss him.
[Hephaestus, spoken]
Fine, release him.
[Ensemble]
Aphrodite.
[Aphrodite]
Your little high and mighty Odysseus,
Claims to love his mother, but let her die of a broken heart.
[Athena]
He was busy fighting!
[Aphrodite]
More like busy spiting the cyclops
Let him feel the pain that his mother felt and rot.
[Athena, spoken]
Wait!
[Athena]
Please reconsider this.
[Ares]
Really, Athena? These old tricks?
(Athena’s face turned to frustration).
[Athena, spoken]
Ares!
[Ensemble]
Ares
Ares.
[Ares]
What kind of sick coward holds back his power
While his friends get devoured?
He didn't even fight Scylla, didn't even try to kill her!
Hides inside a wooden horse to get the job done!
Never handles things upfront!
Pathetic and weak like his son!
[Athena]
Hold your tongue now! His son's my friend!
And tell your lover that a broken heart can mend!
You want more bloodshed? Then set him free!
To get back to his homestead, he'll make everybody bleed!
[Aphrodite & Ares, spoken]
Ugh, release him...
[Hera, spoken]
Hey, baby!
[Ensemble]
Hera
[Hera]
So many heroes, so many tales!
Give me one good reason why yours should prevail!
[Athena]
He's got the mind of a genius.
[Hera]
Try harder.
[Athena]
He's pretty skilled with words.
[Hera]
You can do better than that.
[Athena]
He's kind of funny.
[Hera, spoken]
Eh...
[Athena]
Never once has he cheated on his wife.
[Hera, spoken]
...Release him.
[Ensemble]
Hades.
(Hades rose from underground).
[Hades, spoken]
Man, is it good to be back on the mountain
(laugh).
What's up brothers and sisters
Hades was invited to the games after all!
Right Ody, okay well…
[Hades]
Oh!
Little talk, little god, little wolf
Don't you remember how he was incredible?
Goddess of Wisdom, why do you cry?
Took you two little minutes to say your goodbye
Abandoned him left him to mortals
Now Olympus you're asking for portals!
Calypso has got him and now you're up here still doubting your initial morals?
If you want to stand by him I vote let him go
His demise from Poseidon inevitable
But with Goddess of Wisdom alone by his side
There's no limits or bottoms from what he could hide
So release him I say, we let go of his chains
In the end it's my brother that says who's detained.
(Hades lowered back underground. Athena seemed bewildered, not having to do any convincing).
[Ensemble]
Artemis.
[Artemis]
Why should I trust him?
And why should I care?
After all
He’s just a man
Can he erase what
He did to his friends?
They followed him blindly
And it was dead end.
[Athena]
It was his only way home.
[Artemis]
I know
But what about his friends?
[Athena]
Sometimes hard decisions
Have to be made in the war
Surely you have
Seen that before?
[Artemis, spoken]
(Sighs). Release him.
[Ensemble]
Persephone.
[Persephone]
I know what it is like to be torn from the ones that you love,
There’s no length you won’t go whether they are below or above
But Odysseus clearly does not understand
What it is to hold both life and death in your hand
In his pride, he forgets that he is just a man.
[Athena]
Love makes monsters of us all,
Winter, summer, spring, and fall
Gods and men both risk it all
If you recall.
Both your husband and your mother
With no heed for who would suffer
Broke the world to recover you
Their greatest love.
[Persephone, spoken]
(Sighs). Release him.
[Ensemble]
Dionysus.
[Dionysus]
Have a drink!
One sip and you’ll understand
The “power” that’s in that man!
He put lotus to my wine!
Betrayed the cyclops to make him blind!
Oh!
Since he left home
Said he faced a variety of foes
But he’s now all alone
From six hundred men to nothing
Left a trail of red on every island
And he didn’t even know
He lost somebody at the palace of the witch!
[Athena]
Don’t underestimate him!
He used his mind to keep on surviving!
Knew that he’d have to save all his friends
Or get back to his son and wife!
If you choose to release him
He’ll have a feast when he’s succeeded
This is a trade I’ll have as an offer
Oh, that’s a gift from you and a gift from me.
[Dionysus, spoken]
I’ll drink to that.
[Ensemble]
Hestia.
[Hestia]
It’s good to see you after all these years
Tell me, why should I help you release this man?
I heard he is good in the island with Calypso
So why not give them a chance?
With her you’ll know he’ll never be alone
I even brought them fire so he feels at home.
[Athena]
It’s not that way…
He needs to get free from Calypso
So he can get back home
Without Penelope, he’ll always feel alone
And she’s been waiting, waiting
For him.
[Hestia]
He’s only home with Penelope.
[Athena]
Just let him go.
[Hestia, spoken]
Of course, release him.
[Athena, spoken]
I’ve played your game and won, release him.
[Zeus]
You dare to defy me?!
To make me feel shame?!
[Zeus, spoken]
No one beats me.
NO ONE WINS MY GAME!!!
(Zeus raised his hand, gathering lightning in his hand).
[Zeus & Ensemble]
THUNDER, BRING HER THROUGH THE WRINGER!!!
SHOW HER I'M THE JUDGMENT CALL,
THE ONE WHO MAKES HER KINGDOM FALL!!!
(He threw the gathered lightning at Athena. Athena was struck and seemed to lose consciousness).
[Ares, spoken]
Is she dead?
(Memories flashed through Athena’s mind. She thought back to Odysseus as a child, smiling at her. Of him as an adolescent, then as a young man. She thought of training him. She remembered his proud face as he presented her baby Telemachus. She remembered how tiny and fragile baby Telemachus had been. Then she thought of meeting Telemachus again, now twenty years old).
(She reopened her eyes and started to stand, memories still flashing through her mind. Training Odysseus. Odysseus laughing at something. Telemachus’s happy face. She walked towards Zeus, though she could barely do so).
(She reached Zeus, hugging him).
[Athena]
Let him go, please...
Let him go...
(Zeus looked shocked).
(Athena lost consciousness once more).
Chapter 33: God Games (Continued)
Summary:
This chapter isn’t canon, but I still wanted to add it just because it’s really cool
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
(Athena had lost consciousness).
[Hermes, spoken]
Oh, and it appears we have a special guest!
[Zeus, spoken]
What?
(Zeus looks and sees none other than Odysseus looking at him).
[Ensemble]
Ody-sseus.
[Odysseus]
Twenty years, I’ve been trying to get home,
But you gods won’t leave me alone!
Left a trail of red on every island,
And now my entire crew is gone!
Must I become a monster?
Then would my suffering end?
Why’s a cyclops’ sight the price of six hundred friends?!
I’ve had enough!
You gods are one and the same!
Kill mortals like it’s some game!
You laugh and taunt, while the ones I lost
Still haunt me in my ‘dreams’!
Release me, and then you’ll see
The monster that I can be!
Every foe will bleed, and I’ll get to see
Penelope…

Here’s the new opening to ‘The Vengeance Saga’! I added this because it shows how Antinous is trying to replace Odysseus, but fails. The credit for the song goes to Antinous’ voice actor, Ayron Alexander. Also, I had trouble with descriptions, so I’m sorry.
Chapter Text
(Antinous stood against a wall inside the palace and watched Penelope pass by).
[Antinous]
I look into your eyes and I
Think the world could be all mine
Radiant as you were when he left for war.
(Antinous saw Penelope in her room, silently crying at a tapestry of her, Odysseus, and Telemachus).
Even after all these years, you can still shed tears
For a ghost, when I'm standing here!
Close your eyes, and just picture the view...
How I'd adore you.
I’m just a man, who’s fighting for a home.
Even after all the years of hardships that I’ve known.
I’m just a man, who’s selfish, cruel, and vain
Deep down, I know, only you could ease the pain.
I’m just a man...
(Antinous got angry, and began yelling at Penelope in his mind. Simultaneously, a vision of Odysseus sung as well).
[Past Odysseus, (Antinous), {Both}]
{But} when does a comet (You could have had me) become a meteor?
(All these years) When does a candle become a blaze? (I've stayed, YOU could have had me!).
When does a man become a monster? (YOU STILL COULD EARN ME!)
(But) {when} does a ripple (Will I be) become a tidal wave? (Good enough for you?!)
When does the reason become the blame (Must I become) When does a man become {A monster?}
[Ensemble, {Past Odysseus}, (Antinous)]
When does a (Penelope!) comet become a meteor?
When does a {Forgive me...} candle become a blaze?
When does (Penelope!!!) a man become a monster?
{Forgive me...}
When does a (Penelope!!!!!) man become a monster?
{Forgive me…}
[Past Odysseus and Antinous]
I’m just a man...
Chapter 35: Not Sorry For Loving You
Chapter Text
(An island appeared. Odysseus was sitting on the beach, looking at the horizon. Calypso arrived. She stood next to him).
[Calypso]
Someone arrived today
They said they're taking you away.
(Odysseus’ eyes changed, something akin to hope shining in them).
[Calypso]
That you're not mine to save
And soon I won't get to see your face.
(Odysseus stood. He did not look at her).
[Calypso]
So I came by to say
You're unlike anyone I have ever known
Cause you're all I've ever known.
(She placed a hand on his shoulder, but he moved out of reach).
[Calypso]
And if I pushed you
Or if I came on too strong
Or if I ambushed you
For that, I'll say I was wrong
And if you hate me
Then I am sorry my love's too much for you.
(Odysseus glanced at her from the corner of his eyes. The look he gave her was unreadable. He started to walk away).
[Calypso, *Ensemble*]
But I'm not sorry for loving you
*I'm not sorry for loving you*
I'm not sorry for loving you
*I'm not sorry for loving you*.
(Flowers grew in front of Odysseus. He stopped in his tracks).
[Odysseus]
Calypso...
[Calypso]
Let me speak
I spent my whole life here
Was cast away when I was young
Alone for a hundred years
I had no friends but the sky and sun
So when you washed ashore
I thought for sure that you were my dream come true
I thought I knew.
(Odysseus was shown building a raft, Calypso following him around).
[Calypso *& Ensemble*]
So if I pushed *you*
Or if I came on *too strong*
Or if I ambushed *you*
For that, I'll say I *was wrong*
And if you hate *me*
Then I am sorry my love's too much for you.
(Odysseus gave her another unreadable look, before looking away as if afraid to be caught).
[Ensemble]
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh.
[Calypso, *Ensemble*]
But I'm not sorry for loving you
*I'm not sorry for loving you*
I'm not sorry for loving you
*I'm not sorry for loving you*.
(Calypso shoved a basket of food into Odysseus’ arms).
[Calypso]
I'm not sorry
I'm angry and tired and restless and sad
I'm stuck in the moments I swore that we had
I wish you would chase me
Or try to embrace me
For once, I wish you would lie and say—
[Odysseus]
I love you.
(Hope grew in Calypso’s eyes).
[Calypso, spoken]
You do?
[Odysseus]
But not in the way that you want me to.
(He seemed almost regretful. Odysseus started to walk away, towards the waters, towards the raft).
[Calypso, *Ensemble*]
I hate that I fell in love with you!
*Hate that I fell in love with you*
Why did I fall in love with you?
*Why did I fall in love with you?*
(Odysseus got on the raft but, for a moment, he looked back).
What do I do with this love for you?
*What do I do with this love for you?*
How am I supposed to get over you?
*How am I supposed to get over you?*
Why in the world won't you love me too?
Chapter 36: Dangerous
Chapter Text
(Odysseus was on his raft in the middle of the ocean).
[Odysseus]
Six hundred men
Six hundred deaths under my command
'Cause I had one goal in mind.
(There was a silence).
No fleet, no band
Only this raft that I made by hand
How will I reach my homeland?
[Hermes]
All you have to do is not open this bag.
(A bag was placed in a confused Odysseus’ hands).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Hermes?
[Hermes]
Ahahahahaha! Hello, old friend!
[Odysseus]
So you're the one who talked to Calypso.
(Odysseus placed the bag on the raft).
[Odysseus, spoken]
Why are you here?
(Hermes summoned his caduceus and began moving around Odysseus).
[Hermes]
You’re being given a final option,
Consider this your one last chance,
To make it back home and abandon caution,
Wash it away like the blood your hands have known
I know, if you dance with fate
Then I know, I know, you’ll enhance your state.
[Odysseus]
If your plan’s so great, then why’d you wait to say it?
[Hermes]
Well, it’s a little bit dangerous, my friend
You need a mindset change for this
You cannot get away with playing safe for this
You wanna get home? Put it all on the line
And put your whole brain in it
Remember every trick in your domain for this.
(Hermes picked up Odysseus and brought him in the air with him).
You gotta treat it like it is the main event.
(Hermes suddenly let go of Odysseus who started falling to the ground).
You wanna get home? Put it all on the line.
(Hermes caught him at the very last moment).
Be dangerous.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Alright, I'm in, what do I do?
[Hermes, (Ensemble)]
First stop, uncharted waters
When lost, look towards the sky
Follow the north star, no matter how far
You think you're goin', you keep on rowin'
When strangers lurk around the isle (Ah-ah)
When danger greets you with a smile (Ah-ah)
Fight your way through, do what you must do
But no matter what, keep moving.
It’s gonna be dangerous, my friend,
You need a mindset change for this.
You cannot get away with playing safe for this.
You wanna get home? Put it all on the line.
And put your whole brain in it.
Remember every trick in your domain for this.
You gotta treat it like it is the main event.
You wanna get home? Put it all on the line.
Be dangerous.
[Hermes, *Winions*, **All**]
And lastly, the wind bag
We went through so much to get this
Keep this bag closed if you wanna get home, sir.
(The winions, the wind god Aeolus’ creatures, appeared).
*You won't get another time to try*
The ragin' storm inside won't let you get closer
*It was meant to stop you by design*
'Cause no mortal can pass Poseidon's storm
**Open this bag and you'll never make it home**
**You'll never make it home**.
[Odysseus]
Don’t you know that danger is my friend?
My whole life I’ve trained for this
I cannot tell you how much I have paid for this
I have to get home, put it all on the line
I’m gonna use ruthlessness
Every trick, every skill put to use for this
I plan to put an end to all the foolishness
I have to get home, put it all on the line
I’ll be dangerous.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Hermes!
Thank you.
[Hermes]
Don't thank me, friend
I'm not the one who fought for you.
[Odysseus, spoken]
Then who?
[Hermes, spoken]
Haha! Good luck!
(Hermes tussled Odysseus’s hair and left).
