“I'm what?!” Ratchet’s question was a harsh snap, loud enough that Hoist and Swoop both leaned toward the office door to peer in and make sure everything was all right.
Before he answered, First Aid stepped over to the door and closed it, preserving Ratchet's privacy and preventing the gossip from getting started early. Because there would very certainly be gossip. “You are carrying. And you're roughly five groons along, judging by the newspark's size.”
Ratchet stared at the other medic for several long kliks. “You're not joking, are you?”
“I am not.”
Primus.” Ratchet huffed and leaned back in his chair. “I didn't think I even still could, after…”
“After what you went through carrying Prowl to term, yes. Given the spark damage, I thought the same.”
“Is it healthy, Aid?”
“The newspark? Yes, as far as I can tell.” First Aid moved back to the other mech's desk and set his data pad down so that Ratchet could see the scans. “We'll need to do a more in-depth scan to be certain, though.”
Ratchet reached out and traced his fingers over the screen, where a still image showed the newspark flashing soft white against Ratchet's bright blue. The gesture was almost reverent, and First Aid had a feeling he knew what the elder mech's next request would be.
“All right, if I'm doing this, I'm doing it right.” Ratchet cycled a vent and slid the pad back to the younger mech. “Get the scanners set up. You'll need spark resonance for both of us, as well as mineral density and fuel composition. And then, since neither you nor Swoop have done this before, we'll have Hoist walk both of you through calculating supplement prescriptions and spark support if necessary.”
“Yes, Ratchet.” First Aid smiled. “And while I'm prepping the scanner, you should be making a comm call.”
“Yes, he'll want to be there for the scan. Primus below, I'm going to have four nannybots.” He rested a hand over his spark. “You better be worth it, kiddo.”
