“‘List something your partner is passionate about,’” Danny recites off the worksheet, brows furrowed. “Uh…”
“Uh? No ‘uh,’ just list something I’m passionate about.” Steve buses himself with ripping a sheet of loose-leaf apart piece by piece in small increments.
“Uh,” Danny emphasizes with a roll of his eyes. “Why would I know what you’re passionate about, I’ve only known you for like, an hour!”
“Then why the hell’d you pick me for your partner, huh? Why’d you even bother?”
“One, I didn’t pick you, I was forcibly assigned you. Two, why would I have an answer for someone I’ve never met before today? That’s crazy, that makes no sense!”
“Protein.”
“Protein? What the hell’s that ‘sposed to mean?”
“That’s my answer, that’s what I’m passionate about. Is that good enough for you, Danny?”
“The thing you’re passionate about… is protein.”
“That’s what I just said, isn’t it?”
“Okay, so—and humour me here, please and thank you—you’re passionate about, I don’t know, steak? So… why?”
“Eggs.”
“Eggs?”
“Eggs.”
“You just repeating ‘eggs’ does not help me.”
“I’m already helping you, I gave you my answer. I’m passionate about protein, specifically in the form of eggs. Next question.”
“Oh my god, you’re such an ass,” Danny gripes, letting a harsh breath out of his nose and dropping his pencil back to their paper before pushing it towards Steve. “You know what? This is your job now, ‘cause I sure as hell didn’t agree to be your scribe.”
Steve side-eyes him, unimpressed. “My scribe? Wow.”
“Wow? Oh, enlighten me, what’s your problem now?”
“My problem? I’m not the one with a problem here, buddy.”
“Heh, you keep tellin’ yourself that.”
“You’re insufferable, you know that?”
“So you say.”
