Summary
Every sound through Wraith’s mask rattles, like a growl and a hiss compounded into each high-pitched whirr. Those eyes seem to flare brighter, cutting through the shadows and burning all the oxygen from the air; the breath catches in Batman’s throat and he fights to pull a ragged gasp back in through his nose, hidden fists clenching beneath windblown swaths of his dark cape to keep from jolting up to clutch at his chest.

Summary
The new life Hong Woojin and Kim Gunwoo have built together is a peaceful one, full of hope and laughter and love—though not the love that Woojin wants, the kind he could never bring himself to ask of Gunwoo for fear of losing him forever.
They share a cramped one-bed, one-bath studio apartment; eat meals at the same table, knees knocking underneath; swap clothes without thinking twice, despite how tight Woojin’s muscle tanks stretch over Gunwoo’s shoulders. Every space he claims as his, filled with his things the way he likes, is scattered with hints of the best friend he’s ever had in all his 28 years of life. There is no single part of Woojin—mind, body, or soul—that hasn’t been touched in some inexplicable way by Kim Gunwoo, and he wouldn’t change a thing.

Summary
Someone turns the corner and she pulls out of the freezer to back out of the way, punching him in the shoulder repeatedly as his laughter calms to quiet snickers. Laura’s muttering crude words under her breath and cursing out both him and Cora—who’s not even in the country right now, let alone on the same continent—until it stops suddenly as she glances over Derek’s shoulder and catches the stranger’s eyes.
“Stiles?” Laura says incredulously, like she isn’t quite sure what she’s seeing was real. “Holy shit, dude.”

Summary
Fireworks could have been going off, bombs exploding, the world burning down around them… but Eddie wouldn’t have noticed a thing with how every molecule in his body starts vibrating, screaming bloody murder like some kind of wailing widow in a soapy telenovela. He distantly hears his parents recounting some of the more kid-friendly details of Evan’s accident—a three-car collision Evan got trapped in the middle of during last week’s freak thunderstorm—and Abuela’s gasp as she covers her mouth in shock.
No. No, it can’t be him. It’s not him.

Summary
Jean’s neutral expression sours, scowl deepening as they hold eyes until the woman’s head blocks Nate’s view in the doorway.
“Hello,” she says softly. Nate can hear the smile in her voice without even seeing it. Disgusting. “My name’s Abby, I’m the team nurse for the Palmetto State Foxes. We thought–”
His head shoots up, spontaneously hit with a surge of energy. The coach’s orange jacket, the strange blob-things on the sleeves—those familiar, eerily-deep eyes on a face far too old to be his brother. “Foxes?”
“Yes, we–”
“Kevin’s Foxes? He’s okay?”
Her gaze softens as she scans his face but the worried crease between her brows only deepens. “He’s okay. Doing great, actually. When we told him you were coming, he–”
Nate collapses back into the seat, suddenly spent with the anger coursing through him—from Jean sending him away, ignoring him, protecting him; Kevin leaving him, leaving them behind after promising they were staying together forever. “Kevin’s okay.”

Summary
Kon wants to scream, to throw something, but he knows with his anger where it is right now, it isn’t safe to do anything surrounded by powerless people like he is—bat-affiliated, leather-clad heroes or not.
...
He can’t help but attempt to listen in for Tim’s heartbeat again and again, but there’s nothing; no steady thumps, no flighty jumps in fear, nothing. It’s like the volume dial has been turned all the way down.
“Superboy? You should see this.”

Dick nods solemnly as if thoughtfully considering his options, while only managing to panic slightly at the blatant adoption bait Jason dragged home, with dark hair and those tell-tale blue eyes too old for that small of a body. From Dick’s peripheral vision, Jason watches the interaction knowingly, as if to say; you see it—you see it too.

Summary
“This is Rico’s, what do you want?” Danny drawls into the receiver of the ancient landline tucked beside the cash register, scratching idly at a chip on the edge of the vinyl counter-top where the film is peeling off.
“Gotham City Police Department, Corrections division, you have a collect call that may be subject to fees,” says a robotic voice, and Danny rolls his eyes so hard his vision blacks out for a few seconds as he turns the phone into his shoulder to muffle any sound it might pick up. “Do you accept?”
“Mikey! Who didn’t show up today?” The man in question responds with something unintelligible from the back office; Danny does a quick head-count, scanning the faces he can see. “Anybody see Jay?”
Danny huffs tiredly at the variety of non-answers, pulling the receiver back to his mouth. “I accept.”

Summary
“The what?” Jason says incredulously, halting in his tracks on the rooftops of an abandoned warehouse district, before catching sight of his target still on the move and picking the pace up to stay on the shipment.
“The Godling Equation,” Tim grouses, voice uncharacteristically gruff. “It’s this new series of theoretical problems, essentially proving the existence of another host dimension of extremely powerful, incorporeal beings we had no clue existed until now. This kid at GothamU proposed it in a homework assignment, and then tried to cover it up when the professor asked for more detail—like he already knew what it meant!”

Summary
“How did you get this number?” Jason says gruffly into his phone, sticking it in the crux of his shoulder as he mashes away at the tiny controller-buttons.
“Jason,” Dick complains, his dramatic sigh sounding tinny over the shitty speakers. “I wouldn’t have to get new burners if you would stop blocking me.”
“If you’d stop being annoying I wouldn’t block you,” Jason replies, smirking as Danny snorts from his position on the ground, leaning against Jason’s legs. “What d’you want now?”
Dick hesitates—his ‘bad news’ kind of hesitate—and Jason sits up slightly, accidentally jostling Danny who immediately pauses their game and turns a bit to scan his face before arching an eyebrow and jerking a thumb out to the side away from the couch as if to ask, want me gone? Jason shakes his head easily, sitting back again; content to wait for Dick to get his words back, which surprisingly doesn’t take long at all.
“Little Wing…” he starts, voice low and slow. “They just found Danny dumped outside Crime Alley. He was shot walking home from work, they’re thinking mugging gone wrong. I’m sorry.”

Summary
The first time Jason sees Danny out in the real world, sans all the blood and dirt and crooked monitor electrodes, it knocks the air out of his lungs. That tiny reassuring smile he gave Ellie, laid up in a hospital bed and barely able to keep his eyes open, has nothing on the blindingly-bright grin currently on his face—and naturally it’s directed at a tiny tutu-clad, tiara-wearing, bundle of joy and sparkles who gives him an identical one in return. That head of dark curls, previously matted with grime, shifts and sways with every step and there’s a tiny pink clip on his head holding back a truly minuscule amount of hair—obviously the work of his daughter, and Jason wouldn’t be surprised if Danny didn’t even know it’s there—contrasting his all-black clothes.
Jason almost stops dead in the middle of the sidewalk when his brain freezes, refusing to compute until Tim grabs his arm and yanks him forward, snapping him out of whatever weird trance he got sucked into as they continue down the sidewalk.

Summary
Without giving himself time to hesitate anymore, he swings open the passenger-side door and steps out, moving to the front of the truck with their shared duffel in hand to wait for his partner—who only stares up at him through the windshield with wide, anxious eyes.
The fact that Bradley was willing to put on a brave face as Jake sulked and brooded during the drive down means a lot to him, in a way Jake’s not sure he knows how to verbally express. It’s his turn to be brave now.
He rounds the side of the truck and pulls open the drivers-side door, stretching out a hand for Bradley to take—as both a physical and emotional support.
“Come on, Roo,” he murmurs, voice as soft as the smile on his face. “We’ve got people to wow.”

Summary
Vince starts yelling again, and Mia frowns before gesturing at Brian to wait as she wordlessly turns on her heel and makes toward the kitchen like a woman on a mission. Within seconds, a loud smack sounds—the sudden uptick of cursing meaning she hit Vince’s arm or chest—and Brian can just barely catch Mia's furious whispers as she scolds him. Dom says something else and… yep, there’s the sound of her hitting Dom, scolding him too but louder this time. Loud enough that Brian can get most of the words.
“You of all people… of course, he’s not… are you kidding me? No!… putting him out on his ass… you absolute fucking moron.”
[...]
“Was only—” He stops to cough with a pained wince, then continues. “—only a beat cop for two weeks. Didn’t even make it off probation.”
Vince’s expression sours, face visibly twitching from where he’s standing in the doorway with arms crossed over his chest.

“Ma, there’s…” She clears her throat, struggling to draw a full breath in with how tight her chest feels. “There’s something I– we need to tell you. So just– read it.”
“Janie,” Ma starts, hands trembling as she grips the envelope.
“I didn’t-- I didn’t know how to do it so...”
“Jane?” Maura murmurs, doing that weird counter-pressure thing she insists will calm Jane down—not that she’d ever admit it actually does.
Or, Ma and Frankie (as well as the entire BPD Homicide Division) think that Jane and Maura are together. Like... together, together.

Summary
“You guys have allergies, or anything? Like, bees or nuts or… huh, I don’t actually know what else people can be allergic to. Shellfish? Yay, nay? May-bay? Er, wait, can werewolves even have allergies?”
Derek starts forward with fists clenched at his sides, but Laura throws out an arm to stop him with a glare of her own. “Why?”
He shrugs unceremoniously, jerking a thumb back inside the house over his shoulder. “I brought snacks. You like trailmix? It’s got M&M’s, mostly blue ones ‘cause those are the only ones I don’t like. They taste like pencil crayon.”
“What do you want from us?” Laura asks lowly, stepping in front of Derek as her eyes flare red—ignoring how Derek’s snarling steadily rises in volume.
“I don’t want anything,” he repeats, emphasizing the ‘I.’ The only reason he’s even hanging around at all is because Kyria found him, followed the trail of his magical energy signature thing, and asked him to keep her company—who knew living as an invisible spiritual force in a derelict, shell of a house could get so lonely?
