Work Text:
Faith’s cold. Faith’s really, really cold, because they live in Cleveland now for some reason and their heater’s barely staying alive. Because apparently one apocalypse wasn’t enough and Cleveland has to become the new annoying Hellmouth now that Sunnydale’s gone. Of course.
So it’s in the negative twenties and they’re in the fucking midwest, and their apartment isn’t going above sixty, and Faith is freezing. This is so not how she thought she’d be spending her weekend.
Buffy’s still bundled in bed, but Faith braves the cold, making coffee while wrapped in a blanket. She can practically see her breath fogging up the air in front of her at this point (Buffy would be telling her not to be so dramatic right about now).
Faith curls up on the couch with her coffee, and Luna pads into the living room too, burrowing under the blanket with Faith. The cat’s clearly cold too, even under the blanket, and Faith pulls off the Sunnydale High sweatshirt she stole from Buffy and wraps it around Luna. Faith shivers at the cold air and quickly goes back to the blanket, sipping her coffee and letting the warmth from the cup seep into her stiff fingers.
Buffy finally wanders in, wrapped up in her own blanket as she blinks blearily. She grabs a cup of coffee and makes her way to the couch, lying her head on Faith’s shoulder. And then she sees Luna, and she freezes, her brow furrowing.
“Is that my hoodie?” she asks, sitting up and smirking at Faith.
Faith’s eyes widen. “...no?”
Buffy narrows her eyes at Faith. “Right, I forgot, Luna gave the valedictorian speech at graduation. Willow was so mad that she didn’t win. Gave me this whole speech about calculating GPAs.”
Faith sighs. Of course this is going to be how Buffy finds out about the sweatshirt theft, because Faith’s been stealing her hoodies for years at this point. And it all falls apart because of a cat. Faith shoots a glare at Luna, and she just gets an innocent look in return. Her cat’s learning manipulative tactics from Miss Kitty Fantastico. They have to stop visiting Willow and Tara.
“She’s cold,” Faith says, shrugging defensively from her blanket cocoon.
Buffy laughs. “It’s cute.” She arches an eyebrow, adding, “So this is where all my hoodies have been going? My cat’s the culprit?” Buffy picks Luna up, narrowing her eyes at her and shaking her head. “Was it you?” The sweatshirt is comically large, billowing over Luna’s body and leaving just her head peeking out of the top. Buffy sets her back down, and she disappears inside the hoodie.
They’re still bundled up in separate blankets, but Buffy drops hers, squeezing next to Faith and wrapping Faith’s blanket around both of them. She rests her head on Faith’s shoulder again, laughing softly. “I think it’s cute that my girlfriend steals my hoodies,” she says lightly.
Faith rolls her eyes, and somehow, her cheeks heat. “You weren’t supposed to find out,” she grumbles. “Everything’s ruined now.”
Buffy reaches up, turning Faith’s head and kissing her, still laughing. And Faith can’t help but smile too.
“I love you,” Buffy says, and she pulls away from Faith as Luna drags her hoodie-covered self onto their laps.
“I love you too,” Faith says, still smiling and petting Luna under her hoodie nest. “We gotta fix the thermostat, though.”
Buffy laughs again, snuggling back into Faith’s side, and Faith feels a warmth spread through her chest despite the biting cold of the apartment. And even if the kitchen counters are covered in frost (Buffy’d definitely tell her to stop being dramatic now), it doesn’t matter, because Faith’s with her cat and her girl and she’s happy.
At least, as happy as she can be in fucking Cleveland.
