Chapter Text
"Hey hunny," Mom beamed, turning to me, wearing an apron with a frying pan in her hand. "Ready to get your Dom classification?"
"Ready as I'll ever be. Which one do you think I'll get?"
She put a finger on her chin, pretending to think, "You're too kind to be a Ruler or maybe a General Dom?" I was about to agree, before she added, "Hm but you're so adorable, so maybe a sub?"
Both of us laughed at that one and she ruffled my dark brown, straight hair. All males for four generations were Doms. We have all the categories in our family, very few being Caregivers, but the rest have been evenly spread out.
I'd have to agree with her though. As much as it would be great to be a Ruler, I think I'm suited better as a General Dom. I'm not a Pet person, so being an Owner wouldn't work at all. I didn't even consider being a Caregiver because I hate Littles with a passion.
Fidgeting with my backpack strap, I recalled the first time I met one. One ran into me one day when I was shopping for my mom. She was fully clad in a onesie, a clear bump on her bum to indicate that there was a diaper, drooling and screaming for candy. She looked like she was 27. Someone like that could only be a drain on society, and I know most of my family felt the same.
Opening my bag to take out the little information package, which was sent out to everyone my age yesterday evening, I admired the embroidery on the sides. They didn't email it to everyone, as they knew half of us would forget to check it if they did.
Inside had the general information on Classifications. They're split into two classes. Doms (Dominant) and Subs (Submissive). They are then split into types. In the Dom category, from most dominant to least, there is Ruler, Caregiver, Owner then General Dom. In the Sub category, from most dominant to least, there is General Sub, Pet, then Little. Pets are cared for by Owners and Littles are cared for by Caregivers.
Mom put my breakfast, eggs and bacon sandwich, on a plate, and I took it. Stuffing the food in my mouth, I hear my two elder brothers, Jackson and Harley, coming down the steps towards us.
"Good morning, Mom," Hayden greeted and so did Jackson. Hayden then looked at me. "You look extra excited today. Is today that day?"
"Hell yeah. We placing bets this year?"
"It would be stupid not to. I'm calling-"
"General Dom" - Jackson boredly cut in, not even looking our way.
"Hey! That was my guess."
Jackson sighed, but I could see a slight smile on his lips. "Too slow, Hayden."
"I'll show you who's too slow." Hayden threatened coming closer.
Mom sighed, knowing what was coming.
"If ANY of you want breakfast today, you better not step an inch closer." She said, glaring at both of them.
She and Dad were an odd pairing. Dad's a Ruler type, so he was supposed to be paired with a General Sub, but he didn't get either. Dad was already in love with Mom, so even though she got a General Dom classification, he kept trying daily to woo her until, she admitted she had loved him too. Due to both being Doms, Mom can sometimes fight back against what Dad says, but she's practiced calming herself quickly and submitting out of respect and love for Dad, for her kids and for the poor furniture that would be absolutely shredded in a Dom to Dom fight.
I shuddered thinking about what would happen to the house if Mom was a Ruler. This house wouldn't be standing.
Hayden conceded and sat on one of the stools, starting his breakfast, and immediately started a conversation with Mom. Jackson, however, sat alone in the dining room with his food. I wasn't shocked that he got the Owner classification. They're usually quiet people.
Jackson got classified 5 years ago, now in his 3rd year of university. Hayden got classified 2 years ago; he just started university. I'm still shocked how he got the Ruler classification like Dad. I'd say bribery, for both that and how he got into university, if that was actually possible. Maybe he just has a secret smart side that he shows to nobody.
After I finished breakfast and thanked my mom, I grabbed my bag and left the house.
I knew it was quite early to already be heading to school and I practically lived right next to the building, but the anticipation in me was too strong to just sit around at home.
"Hey, fellow Doms, there's a whole new life ahead," I said, leaning on the railing.
"I wonder what sub I'm going to get. They better know how to serve real well." Asher chipped in, right before Ben conked his head.
"You idiot. Subs are not just to take care of you, you also have to take care of them and make them happy and content even if they refuse your care." Yeah, he's definitely an Owner, another common trait among them being kindheartedness. I know Jackson has a little bit of it, but he doesn't show it often. If only he would just get a Sub already. Even Hayden has one.
I sighed contentedly at their antics and watched them argue with each other and then throw fists. This was why I hung out with these guys. They were an endless supply of entertainment. Sure, Owners can be kindhearted, but unlike Caregivers, who only fight unless there's a very good reason, Owners can still get into fights all the time.
They eventually settled down, and we talked for a bit before we heard the first bell ring. We headed to the auditorium instead of our first classes as Classification ran through half the day. Afterwards, the Doms and Subs would be matched. Most went home after that, but those with certain classifications stayed for further instruction.
We got to the dimly lit auditorium, then noticed that all of the seats had a name on them. Sure, that was annoying, but it made sense, so I bid Asher and Ben farewell and looked for my name. I went straight to the L section and looked through the sheet of paper attached to each seat until I found my own, Alexander Lowry.
I looked at the next three seats to both my right and left. I knew nobody. Well, this was going to be really boring. Were we really supposed to sit here the entire time before we were called? Hayden never said anything about this when he recounted his classification! I'll get back at him for this. I bet he was chuckling wherever he was right then. He knew patience was not one of my strong suits.
There was light chatter from all around me from those who somehow had friends sitting right next to them. It seemed as though everyone was rather excited or nervous to get their results, which was fair as I felt the same. I dragged my index finger my wooden chair, thinking about how less it would hurt if it had some kind of padding. With the amount of people turning around to talk to someone behind them, I wondered how their backs didn't break.
I sat and waited for the auditorium to fill up so we could start already. I heard the mic being used and thought it was something important, but it was just the vice-principal doing a mic test.
Finally, she started speaking.
"Would all those in the first 2 rows please leave the auditorium in an orderly fashion from Exit B, thank you," the vice principal said.
Levi and Everett were probably in those rows, so at least I'd have something to look forward to. I pulled out my phone and opened our team group chat.
You better tell us what classification you get, especially if it's sub. Looking at you, you adorable pinecone. - Joshua
Everett had Sub tendencies in him, so I would be surprised if he gets Dom. I bet he's going to be miserable after this.
Joshua, shut it. I swear, if you get Sub, I'm going to laugh so hard it might send me to the ER - Octavian
What do you think Lev's going to get? - Noah
Ruler - Joshua
Ruler - Octavian
Ruler - Me
Ruler - Asher
Ruler - Liam
Well, clearly we're all in agreement. - Asher
That's right, Sub. - Joshua
I'M NOT A SUB - Asher
Sure you aren't, man. Don't worry, Alex will take great care of you. I'll make sure of it - Joshua
I'M NOT AN OWNER - Me
I'M NOT A PET YOU PIG - Asher
Now now, those aren't nice words, Ash. Alex, you wouldn't take that from your little pet, right? - Joshua
You know I don't want a pet, and Asher is not going to be one anyway. You're lucky you're not in my row or I would have decked you to the ground. - Me
I turned off notifications from most of the members at that point, especially Joshua, and only kept on Levi's and Everett's so that I could find out their classifications.
I searched through my bag, got my earphones out, and opened the YouTube app. I scrolled through my recommendations to find a documentary on a topic I was interested in. Settling on one, I immersed myself in the presenter's findings until I heard my phone vibrate multiple times. I looked at the notifications and sighed.
Got your classification yet? - Hayden
Got your classification yet? - Hayden
Got your classification yet? - Hayden
I'm not in the mood for this guy. I turned off notifications for him as well and then decided to do the same for the rest of my family. I can talk to them later.
I opened YouTube again and pressed play. I only got 30 seconds in before I got another notification. This is REALLY pissing me off.
Have you ever felt stuck in your boring 9-5 jo..... - Unknown
Oh come on, that's not even a person I know, but a scam caller. I went back to my video on the evolution of agriculture without interruption. Until there was an interuption. It was the vice-principal.
"Students in the third to fifth rows, please stand and leave the auditorium from Exit B. Do not leave to ask your classmates what their classification is or else there'll be consequences. We've implemented a guideline that everyone will receive their classification at lunch due to previous icidients to reduce delays. Waiting will not kill you, you've waited till this day anyway."
She was about to leave the podium before she came back to the mic.
"One more thing. No matter what you get, no classification is bad, sub-human or disgusting. Subs and Doms are both important in society and they both should be respected. I know certain Classifications are unfavoured by many and I know all of you know exactly which ones I'm talking about in the Sub and Dom categories. That should stop. If I get ANY reports that there's bullying due to a Classification that was received, you'll be suspended for however long as I and the principal see fit. I will not tolerate such childish, rude behaviour in this school. Thank you." She then walked off the stage.
She was most certainly a Ruler. Everyone in the auditorium was quiet for an entire minute after that. Tension thick in the air. It was only after it was clear that she was far away from the auditorium that it felt like oxygen had come back in the room.
