Work Text:

Tuvok enters Captain Janeway’s darkened quarters with caution, eyes scanning for signs of danger. His shoulders relax a fraction when he finds her at her desk, head resting on a stack of PADDs like a pillow. “Captain?”

“Tuvok?” She lifts her head slowly and blinks in confusion. “What are you doing here?”

“My apologies, captain. You were not answering your door, so I used my security override to enter.”

Janeway nods groggily and rubs her eyes. “I suppose I didn’t hear the chime.” She checks the chronometer on her desk. “Is it Alpha shift already?”

Tuvok takes in her flushed cheeks and the way she grimaces just slightly each time she swallows. “Captain, are you ill?”

“No, I just had a late night. Once I have some coffee, I’ll be fine.” She tries to stand but sways dangerously on her feet. “Whoa.”

“Captain!” Tuvok rushes towards her and manages to catch her as she starts to pitch forward.

“I’m fine,” she murmurs. “There’s something wrong with the gravity plating there.”

“I suspect the malfunction is not with the ship but with your vestibular system, Captain.” Tuvok helps her back into her chair. “I believe you have a fever.”

Janeway nods tiredly. “That would explain why I feel so cold.” She sighs and leans into Tuvok’s touch as he checks the temperature on her forehead. “You’re warm, though.”

“Indeed,” Tuvok agrees. “You should go to Sickbay to have the Doctor assess your condition.”

“That’s a good idea.” She tries to stand again only for Tuvok to stop her, then frowns as he slips a hand under her knees. “What are you…?”

“I will carry you to Sickbay,” he explained. I believe that in your current condition, walking could be considered a hazard to your security.”

The captain chuckled weakly. “Very logical.”
