Work Text:

Sam tucked his hair behind his ear as looked at the list, Jack was pushing the cart, "Okay, so the soda aisle exploding around us wasn't the most fun experience, but maybe we should just get a juice." Sam suggested, and his angels agreed with a nod. "Oh, Dad, I wanted to try the strawberry drink we forgot to get last time."

"Oh, good call." Sam said, and Jack smiled. Castiel had stopped and grabbed a bag of chips and frowned at it. "Cinnamon bun flavor?" Sam stopped by Castiel looking over his shoulder, "I mean I guess it's a sweet and savory combination."

Castiel shrugged, "I suppose, but is crab really necessary?" He asked looking at the next bag. Sam frowned along with him, "I got nothing to defend that one." Jack turned the cart around and met up with them, but took his turn too far and knocked over a display. Or almost did. Castiel looked up in time and caught it midair and subtly set it back into place. "Sorry, um, what flavor should we get?"

Sam looked over at the options and shrugged, "Maybe you should pick." Jack looked over the options and landed on salt and vinegar, "I love these." He said picking them up, and they went to put it in the cart when someone walked by and snatched it out of Jack's hands.

Castiel and Sam grabbed onto each other's shoulders, fighting back the instinct to pummel the guy. Jack tilted his head, "Why would you do that?" The guy stopped in his tracks, "What?" He asked, and Jack gestured to the bag of chips, "Why did you feel comfortable pulling that out of a stranger's hands?"

The guy looked down at the bag of chips and frowned, "I don't know, I didn't want to reach down." Jack shook his head, "Then you could've asked. I would've grabbed you a bag, I have to say this is a disappointing experience."

Jack watched the guy look to his Fathers' for help but he knew they wouldn't help him one bit. "It was rude." Castiel agreed with Jack, Sam nodded, "I wanted to deck you for it. Can't say I still won't." The man slowly handed Jack back the chips and backed away. "I'm sorry, won't do it again." Jack nodded, and couldn't see his Fathers' non-discreet-discreet threat of revealing their weapons to the guy. All while holding a smile.

He disappeared with a quickness, Jack turned around and put the bag in the cart with a beaming smile, "I think he learned a lesson today." Sam nodded, "I think you're right."

Jack had his lips pursed to the side, eyebrows pulled together as they looked for the drink, "I don't think they have it in stock." He said, and Sam sighed, "Okay, um. Are there any other ones you wanted?" Jack scanned the shelves and found the answer to be no. He settled on a drink he didn't care much for but knew didn't taste terrible.

"Next time we'll order online." Sam said, and Jack shrugged. "What's next?" Castiel asked while Sam crossed off drinks. "Dinner. We agreed on pizza and mozzarella sticks right?" Jack nodded, "And wings." Sam nodded, "Okay, and wings." Jack smiled, "And fries." Sam paused but nodded nonetheless, "And fries."

Jack drummed his hands against the car and tilted his head, "And chicken tenders." Sam glanced up, "Anything more?" Jack paused, "A Caprese salad? With fried mushrooms?" Sam chuckled and added it to the list, "Alright I guess."

Castiel leaned over Sam's shoulder, "We're getting most of these frozen, right?" Sam nodded, "Absolutely, I remember the last time we tried to make homemade pizza." Castiel gave Sam a thumbs up, "Good."

"I can go get all our dinner ingredients, why don't you and Jack get the cookies and popcorn?" Sam suggested, and Jack nodded, he picked up his Father's hand already dragging him across the store. Sam chuckled, taking over the cart. Wishing Castiel some good luck at getting Jack to be decisive about which cookies to bake.

Finally with everything in their cart, they were about to join a small line of two when a 'Closed Lane' sign was set on the conveyor belt. Sam pushed the cart over to the next free register, and another 'Close Lane' sign was placed down. They all paused to look for any available cashier.

"Sorry, everyone's pretty much going on their breaks." An employee told them, and they nodded, "Can we just go to a self check out then?" Sam asked. The employee looked at the cart, "Not with that many items. We'll be back in fifteen though."

"What if we split it amongst us three?" Sam asked, and the employee nodded, "That works." Sam looked at Castiel who set off to grab another cart, Jack right behind him. Sam started to count the items to divide between the three. Once the two were back he set them in their carts.

They pushed their carts over to self check out and started to scan everything. Sam sighed, typing in all the vegetables individually. While Jack and Castiel scanned their items fairly quick. But when it came to payment, they realized the machines weren't taking cards. Sam's shoulders fell down and his head went up with a sigh.

"I'll be back." Jack said, disappearing, literally. Castiel and Sam looked to each other for an answer and Jack came back with money in hand. "I went to an ATM." He said, and the two raised an eyebrow knowing Jack did not have a card on him. But they paid with the cash anyhow.

Two of the bags Sam tried to use broke. He sighed and grabbed another one. This was beginning to be a long trip.

Everything had finally been paid for, bagged, and packed into the car. Castiel was driving them, when Sam heard one of the tires pop. He pinched together his face as Castiel pulled off to the side. "We don't have a spare, do we?" Sam asked, and Castiel shook his head.

"Course not." Sam reached into his pocket to call Dean, when Jack patted Sam's shoulder, "I got this." Before Sam could ask what that meant, the kid teleported the car and them back into the bunker's garage. "Good thinking." Sam said, and Jack beamed. They got out of the car and popped open the trunk, grabbing their bags. One of handles broke under Sam's hand, Castiel picked the bag up for Sam who laid his head against the car for a moment.

Jack had asked if they could start with the cookies and Sam didn't see why not. They'd need time to set anyways. Turns out, it was not a great idea. Sam pulled out the burnt cookies, holding back a loud sigh. Jack picked one up and hit it against the counter a few times, and it made a loud noise. "I don't think we made them correctly."

"Yeah, I gotta agree with you." Sam said, Castiel had a sheepish look holding burnt popcorn behind his back, "Perhaps we should've grabbed duplicates for testing purposes."

Sam nodded, "Um, I'll start on the dinner. At least I should be okay doing that." Castiel and Jack nodded, sighing at their attempts in the kitchen. It was mostly frozen foods, Sam was careful about each item that went into the oven or that he warmed on the stove. It took about an hour to finish all the dishes Jack had requested but they smelt good and were not burnt.

Dean walked in, smelling a mix of pizza, wings, and burnt popcorn. He glanced at the three and exhaled, "This is why I supervise y'all in my kitchen." Sam shrugged, "Have a slice of pizza for your trouble." Dean picked it up, nodding, "I can accept this as the start of an apology."

"Well, that's the start and end of it." Sam said, and Dean frowned. Sam ignored him and wondered if he could order some cookies to the bunker or at least nearby. Gabriel wandered in smelling burnt cookies. "Are you four disgracing sweets in here?"

Dean frowned, mouth full of pizza, "Hey, don't group me in with these three. I know my way around a kitchen." Gabriel shook his head and snapped the disappointing cookies away and snapped in two tables full of desserts. "You're just as bad as them sometimes." Gabriel told Dean, and picked up a cookie and sighed happily, "This is what a cookie should look like."

"Thanks." Sam and Castiel said dryly, and Gabriel gave them a thumbs up. Dean picked up the popcorn and threw it away. "I can't let anyone eat this disgrace." He said, dusting his hands and heading into the pantry for another bag. He shooed them out of his way, sending them off, "I'll join you with the goods. Just get."

Gabriel chuckled, "Whatever you say, boss." He said with a wink, and Dean ignored the fluttering in his stomach. Jack, Sam, and Castiel picked up their dishes and walked out of the kitchen, far away from whatever that was.

Sam's tongue stuck out as he focused on setting the movie up using his laptop. But it wasn't working much to his dismay. He groaned seeing he didn't have a wifi connection. Whenever it randomly goes down, there's no fixing it. It'll start up on its own again, Sam just didn't know when.

"I'll be back." Sam announced, and went to his room for a DVD player and walked to Dean's room for the DVDs. He tucked them under his arms, and used muscle memory to connect it all together. He stepped back with a smile and handed Castiel and Jack the movie options.

They tried a Transformer movie, and well. It was too scratched up to even try playing. Next was Insidious, but again, it refused to play. Sam wasn't exactly upset about that one considering Jack, but he didn't voice it. The third movie was Beetlejuice and Sam noticed it was worst than the other two. But so did Castiel who picked it up and restored it back to its original state. He handed it off to Sam was incredibly careful with it as he put it in the player.

As the three sat down next to each other. Sam and Castiel leaning on one another, and Jack's legs laying over his parents legs, Dean and Gabriel had finally joined them. Dean noticed his movies out, and rolled his eyes. At least the movies weren't something he'd absolutely hate.

They served out their plates, quite generously and the plates ended up being set back on their table with a bit of food leftover. Well, everyone's apart from Dean's and Gabriel's. Dean had immediately picked up Sam's plate and began eating from it. Which Sam didn't care.

Gabriel did the same thing to Castiel's plate. The two were so distracted with their food, they didn't notice how quiet the three had gotten, and looked over. All three of them fast asleep. Dean and Gabriel got up and took pictures of them, laughing to themselves before they covered them up properly. In which they then picked up the food and freely dug in. Not that the three were going to eat any more regardless.

The two left them be, knowing they can entertain themselves. It perhaps wasn't the best movie night, as in anything that could've gone wrong, did go wrong. But as they slept, it was clear… the night hadn't been spoiled. In fact, it was quite enjoyable for all of them. Even though it hadn't gone to plan.
