Work Text:

Castiel had been running for miles, and threw the door open. He locked the door with a quickness and activated the sigils surrounding the building with his blood. He'd already cut his hand open and pressed his hand against the walls. He could hear demons kicking at the walls and doors, screeching beyond the doors. Castiel shook his head, and grabbed his radio and turned the volume up and pushed play. His speakers boomed playing his own voice, Latin bleed out the speakers. It trapped the demons in place before it sent them to Hell.

The man allowed himself to slide down onto the ground hearing the final screams. He dug his phone out of his pocket to call Dean, but halfway through dialing, Castiel's head began to spin as it fell backwards. His phone fell out of his hands onto the ground into the dirt. The adrenaline wore off and his injuries revealed how bad they truly were. Most of the damage coming from Hellhounds that they sicked on him.

Unbeknownst to Castiel, an angel touched down to Earth. Standing in front of the man, and shook his head at the state of the man. The angel picked Castiel up and set him on his hammock, and used their grace to mend the man's injuries. Trailing his hand across the hunter's face, Sam sighed.

"Why do you do this to yourself, Castiel?" Sam asked. A question Castiel didn't know the answer to himself.

Castiel's eyes flew open as he sat up with a quickness, he surveyed his surroundings. His eyes landed on the angel in the corner of his room, he picked up his angel blade not registering which angel it was. "Perhaps you need some more rest." Sam said, walking forward, "No other angel besides I can get in here." And Castiel knew that. Of course he did, he's the one who tweaked the damn sigils to allow Sam in. But he hasn't exactly been sleeping as of late.

"I apologize." Castiel said, setting his blade down, he lied back down and stared up at the ceiling. "Don't, you've survived this far constantly being on guard." Sam said, and Castiel rolled his eyes. Was this surviving? It felt like he was always on the verge of Death. He rolled up his shirt looking for the claw marks in his skin and found not so much as spec of dirt on him.

Sam licked his lips, "I didn't want you to die from bleeding out." The hunter nodded, "Thanks." He began to pat for his phone, and panic rose in his chest. Sam handed the man his phone, "I called Dean, I think that's who you were trying to contact. Bobby and him got away fine, they were worried about you. Apparently, you kept taking hits meant for them." Sam said.

The hunter studied Sam's face, "Would you rather of me let them die?" He asked, and Sam shook his head, "Simply pointing out what I was told." Castiel looked at his phone and he had ten missed calls from Dean until Sam made the call for him.

"Thanks for letting them know I wasn't dead." Castiel said, Sam nodded. "Of course. Are you hungry?" Sam asked and Castiel shook his head. "No, and if I was, I have cans." Sam looked around at the empty cans of beans, and frowned, "I was offering real food that did not come out of a can. And you need to restock. All of the cans here are opened."

Sam was right Castiel realized, "I'll restock when I get in contact with some nearby hunters. I'll be fine, Sam." Sam tilted his head and walked over to the man, "Why do you insist on rejecting my help?"

Castiel stared at Sam with a sad smile, "It's nothing personal. I just… You have other people you can be helping. Why am I so important to you?" Sam rested a hand on Castiel's shoulder. "You're not just important to me specifically, Castiel. Why do you think hunters who never partner up are willing to fight alongside you? You have demon blood inside you and that doesn't deter them. You are a natural leader who is willing to sacrifice your life before others. Why wouldn't I want to help you?"

"Because I go directly against Heaven's orders." Castiel said, and Sam smiled, "That is another perk, not a negative." Sam said. The man shook his head with a smile, "Careful, you can fall." Sam shrugged, "Then I fall, I won't be the first or last angel to do so."

Castiel sighed, and wanted to say more but was interrupted by his stomach growling. Sam gave the hunter a look who at least had the decency to appear sheepish. The angel disappeared for a moment and returned back with a burger and fries. "You said a real meal."

"I can drop it off to Dean." Sam teased, Castiel already had it in hand, opening the wrapper. "No, that's not necessary. I'm just surprised you consider it a real meal." Castiel said, and Sam smiled. "I don't, but I know you. You'd rather a burger over anything else."

Castiel shrugged, "Who wouldn't? They're the whole point of life." The hunter said, and started to search around for a bottled drink. Sam handed him a fountain drink. "Thank you." Castiel said, and Sam nodded.

The hunter took down the meal quite quickly to no one's surprise. Sam sat across from him, and didn't hide the fact that his eyes were lingering on Castiel's body. "Looks like you're the one who is hungry." Castiel teased.

Sam met Castiel's eyes, "Starving." He said, and Castiel licked his lips. He set his trash to the side, and smiled, "I'd hate to starve my savior." That was all the permission Sam needed to teleport on top of Castiel, and leaned down to capture the hunter's lips.

Castiel kissed back, and pulled the angel closer. Sam wasn't the only one starving. He couldn't recall the last time he had the angel like this. He just knew it was too damn long. Sam trailed down to Castiel's neck, and bit down. Castiel exposed his neck further, "Are you sure you're an angel and not a vampire?" The hunter asked, and Sam smiled, "I'm sure. But would that stop you from enjoying this?"

"No." Castiel admitted, and Sam went back to marking the hunter's neck. "I think you only heal me so only your marks remain on me." Castiel said, and Sam shrugged, "Mine are better."

And well, he wasn't wrong. The angel went back to kissing Castiel. Slow and passionate. Castiel liked the feeling of Sam draping over him, kissing him senseless. But could sense it was coming to an end and sighed, "Angel radio?"

"Afraid so." Sam confirmed, and Castiel sighed. "I need to get in contact with hunters anyway. Let them know I'm not dead. And apparently I need food." Sam smiled, "I'm only a prayer away though." Castiel nodded, "Next time we meet, you're turning that angel radio off and getting rid of any unnecessary clothing."

Sam chuckled, "What do you consider as unnecessary?" Castiel tugged at Sam's shirt, "All of your clothing." Sam leaned down for a final kiss, "I'll keep that in mind for next time."

The angel disappeared into thin air, and Castiel sighed. He picked up his phone and dialed Dean, who picked up immediately, "Oh, so we do know how to call?" The other hunter asked and Castiel rolled his eyes. "I was trying to call you. It's not my fault I passed out before I could."

"Your boyfriend filled us in since you didn't." Dean said, and Castiel pressed his fingers against his lips, feeling the sensation of Sam's lips lingering. "He told me, the hoard followed me and I managed to send them all back to Hell."

Dean frowned, "You say that is if it's just a run of the mill average day." Castiel shrugged, "All I did was turn on my radio. I didn't do much." Castiel said, and there was background noise behind Dean. "Jo says hi."

"Tell her I said hello." Castiel said, and heard a familiar voice, "Dean didn't say my message correctly, I asked when you're getting your ass back here." Castiel chuckled, "When I can. I have a few runs to make here first." Jo sighed on the other end, and he could heard Dean trying to get his phone back and failing, "Alright, don't get yourself killed before then. You owe me $20."

Castiel tilted his head, "It was $5." Jo hummed, "Yes, but now it's $20 because of interest. Since you keep scaring the crap out of me." She said, and Castiel smiled, "I will stay alive to give you your $20."

"Good, I'm not asking for much." Jo said, "Here's whiny back." She said handing the phone back to Dean, "So much for a private conversation." Dean muttered. Castiel raised an eyebrow, "Those don't exist in Ellen's bar." Dean scoffed, "You're telling me. Just get your ass back here as soon as possible, k?"

Castiel nodded, "Will do." Castiel hung up and sighed. He knew he should start making his runs but he sat up and started to clean up his place. He didn't quite have it in him to start bothering people for another run. They'd start asking for his head on a platter along with the other demonic beings. The others would just have to wait.

As he cleaned he stopped in front of the mirror and saw Sam's handy work, "He truly was starving." Castiel muttered tracing over it. There was a knock on the door and the hunter sighed, he looked outside seeing Rufus with his arms crossed who spotted Castiel looking at him. "Are you waiting for the cold to kill me?"

Castiel rolled his eyes and opened the door. The other hunter looked at Castiel's neck, "Something enjoyed taking a chunk out of you." Castiel ignored his comment and started relaying Bobby's plan to Rufus. Which he tried to argue about, Castiel and Rufus knew he'd do it anyway. He just wanted to argue first. It didn't make it any easier hearing the man whine.

The hunter sent Sam a prayer, one of patience. It was in jest. Yet, he felt a hand on his back, he knew it was just the angel's grace but it did help. As much as it could. But Rufus was Rufus. Overly stubborn.

Notes:

Poor Castiel, being important at work. At least he has his angel in his corner. Sometimes literally. It makes it all worth it.
