Only One Bed

Summary:

Kim didn’t plan this. If you were to ask Jesse, he’d say she’s lying, but she’s not. Did it work out in her favor that there was a mistake made when rooms were being booked? Yes. Did she only sign up for this stupid fucking conference because Dennis would be there? Perhaps. Was she happy when Abbot asked if anyone would be willing to share a room and her and Dennis were the only two to raise their hands? Who’s to know! (Jesse does, he could see the glee in her eye even if she managed to keep the squeak out of her voice.) But that does not mean she planned any of this. Hoped for, wished for, and prayed for maybe, but not planned.

Notes:

Hello, everyone! This is the first time I've written fic in a LONG time, so please be gentle with me.
I think Brief Mentions Of Sex pretty accurately describes it, but if anyone would like anything else tagged, please let me know!
I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

“It’s not like you weren’t hoping for this, too.” Kim snipes at Jesse under her breath as they walk towards the hospital-paid for shit hole hotel.

“That’s different. I was hoping that I’d have time and energy to sneak into the room of my partners because I’m allowed to call them my partners because we’ve actually had conversations about our feelings. Not whatever weird thing you have going on with Denny.”

“Stop calling him that, you know he hates it.”

“That’s why I call him it. But it’s not quite the same when he isn’t right here to yell at me for it.”

“Can you keep your weird kinks to your own bedroom and stop pissing off people so you can get off on them yelling at you?”

“Never.” Jesse smirks, walking over to Mel and Frank and leaving her all alone to walk up to Dennis by herself. Sure, Jesse could gloat and brag now. He barely did any of the talking during the beginning of his, Mel, and Frank’s relationship. The three of them had hooked up after a drunken night and kept hooking up, either all three or only two at a time, never saying what they really were, not to other people or each other. One day, Mel had sat the two men down and said they were either going to do this for real and actually date or she was out. Kim told Jesse to shut up once he got to how they celebrated being official. There are some things you just don’t need to know about your best friend.

Unfortunately, Jesse didn’t share the sentiment and was constantly hounding her for information about what her and Dennis were up to. He got sorely disappointed when she said that they had only had sex once and never talked about it again. They were both a little drunk and Dennis wasn’t sure where he’d be placed for his Intern Year, it wasn’t meant to be anything serious. But then he got placed at The Pitt and they awkwardly went back to being friends, neither of them having the guts to actually have a conversation about what happened. Jesse had offered to ask Mel to mediate and Kim only thought about it a few seconds too long before telling him to shut up.

“Hi.” Dennis says, awkwardly running his right hand through the hair on the back of his head, not quite meeting her eyes.

“Hey.” She says, fiddling with the strap on her bag.

“I guess we’re stuck together tonight.”

“I guess so.”

“It kinda reminds me of…..” He trails off and she knows he’s thinking of that night just as much as she is. Backing through the door to her apartment, not taking their lips off of each other as she clumsily unlocks the door behind her. The way he took her shirt off, running his hands up her sides as he did so. The way he kissed down her neck. The way she rolled the condom onto him. The way he thrust into her, never breaking eye contact.

“Yeah. Me, too.” She says. “It was a fun night.”

“It was.” He agrees. He opens his mouth like he’s about to say something but quickly clamps his mouth shut. He opens the door and rushes in, but stops short just a few steps in, causing Kim to almost run into his back.

“Oh.” He says as she looks over his shoulder.

One bed.

“Now it really does remind me of that night.” Kim says before she can stop herself and she slams her hand over her mouth as soon as the words leave her.

“I’ve always been a fan of reminiscing.” He almost whispers as he turns around to look at her, like he’s not sure if he should say it, not sure if he even did say it.

She tries to think of something clever or flirty to say, but when he’s that close to her she can’t really think straight so all that comes out is “I’ve always been a fan of having sex with people I have a crush on.” Before she can mentally and physically kick herself, Dennis leans down and kisses her and she feels the same electricity running through her body as last time. Who needs conversations when she’s running her hands all over his stomach and back and he’s slowly easing her onto the bed, following her body with his own.

She didn’t plan this, but she’s pretty damn glad it happened.
