Dan can't seem to fall back asleep. He's been tossing and turning in his bunk for god knows how long. He heaves out a deep sigh and feels around for his phone. He's nearly blinded by how bright his phone screen is. Once his eyes adjusted to the brightness, he notices that it's a little after 2am. It looks like he won't be going back to sleep anytime soon. He checks his notifications. He has a couple from Phil from a few hours ago. He clicks on the messages. It's a couple of funny memes. Dan can't help but smile at his phone. Suddenly, Dan feels the urge to call Phil. He's probably still sleeping, Dan thinks to himself. He could just leave him a voicemail. He presses the call button. He holds the phone up to his ear. The phone rings two times. Much to Dan's surprise, Phil actually picks up.
"Hello?" Phil answers.
"Hey! Sorry, did I wake you?" Dan asks quietly.
"No, actually. I've been up for about an hour. What are you doing up? Isn't it 2am in America right now?" Phil asks.
"Mhm. I couldn't fall back asleep, so I decided to call you," Dan says.
"Aw, does somebody miss me?" Phil asks.
"Pshhh, not even in the slightest," Dan jokes, which makes Phil giggle. He feels that heaviness in his chest. God, he misses him so much. "Okay, maybe I do," Dan admits quietly.
"I miss you too. Even when you sleep talk and scare the shit out of me at 4am," Phil says, which makes Dan laugh.
The two of them chat for a bit since they haven't been able to for the last couple of days. Phil tells him about the upcoming videos that he's planning on filming. He was getting ready to go visit his parents for a couple of days. Dan's halfway through the North American leg of his tour. He only has a couple of more weeks left until he goes home. He's been having so much fun getting to perform onstage again. He didn't realize how much he missed it until he finished the first show of the tour. It's been a very cathartic experience. As Phil is telling a funny story from a couple days ago, Dan lets out a yawn.
"What? Is my story boring you," Phil asks, pretending to sound offended.
"No! I'm just yawning, you spoon," Dan says.
"Twat," Phil says.
"Bitch," Dan immediately responds. The two of them start giggling. Dan needs time to move faster.
"How many more days do we have left until I'm home?" Dan asks.
"Wait, I still have the countdown on my phone. We have...40 days left," Phil says.
"This is going to be the longest 40 days ever," Dan whines.
"I know, but we'll survive. We did when I went to Florida for two weeks," Phil said.
"That was the worst two weeks of my life," Dan says before letting out another yawn.
"I know, sleepy bear. Do you want me to let you go? You keep yawning," Phil says.
"No. Stay on the phone with me until I fall asleep?" Dan asks.
"Of course," Phil says.
"I love you," Dan whispers.
"I love you too," Phil responds. Dan sets his phone down next to him and gets into a comfortable position in his bunk. He can feel his eyelids start to grow heavy. He lets them shut, slowly drifting off to sleep.
