“Who’s there?” he demanded of the being shuffling around in the alley near his apartment. He spread his wings and hovered to gain some extra height over them; he couldn’t take his chances looking like an easy target.
That hadn’t turned out to be necessary, as the human that emerged was small, and looking even more nervous than he was.
“You lost?” he asked them. It was clear they weren’t from around this part of Coruscant, and with that amount of nervousness, probably a runaway or in trouble with the law.
The child made a dismissive gesture. “I’m fine. Go on your way and forget about me.”
“You’re a terrible liar,” the toydarian said, not recognizing the attempt for what it was. He weighed his options. Ah, blast it, but he had a soft heart, and he couldn’t imagine that this child could’ve done anything horrible enough to bring trouble from the authorities.
“Come eat something,” he offered. “I won’t ask what you’re running from, and I won’t keep you from going on your way. But the war’s over now, so I think we can all start sparing some generosity again.”
“…yeah,” the child said distantly.
But hesitantly, they followed.
