The Wedding

Summary:

Stephen's been asking for this for three months... Tony is ready to give it to him.

Notes:

Prompt: More selkie Stephen 👀 - Anon

Work Text:

Tony’s heart pounded in his chest as Stephen walked down the aisle with sheer intent until he reached Tony where he waited at the front of the aisle where the Ancient One would be leading them through their vows.

She’d been pleased when Wong had asked her to officiate. This part of the wedding technically wasn’t legal, no, Tony would take him and Stephen to the marriage bureau later for that. This was about something entirely beyond that.

It was clearly worth it. The look on Stephen’s face took Tony’s breath away, a radiant happiness that outdid the sun. Tony hadn’t been doubting this decision, but if he had been, Stephen’s happiness would have melted those doubts away.

Tony reached out. Stephen met him half way, taking his hand. “This,” Stephen said. “Is so much better than a surprise proposal.”

Apparently Tony hadn’t been good at hiding the fact that he’d been up to something, but at least he’d been right about what Stephen would have wanted. “I’m glad,” Tony said. “Because it’d be pretty embarrassing for me to cancel the wedding right now. Your whole herd is here.”

Tony figured he’d invite his own friends to the marriage bureau… or at the very least to an after party. But Wong had planned most of this wedding as his show of support and there would be several selkie traditions. None of Tony’s friends knew Stephen was a selkie, and Tony had no intention of ever telling them. That was for Stephen to decide if he ever wanted to.

No, Tony would take Stephen’s secrets to his grave, the same way he would take this love that had burrowed its way beneath his skin and become as vital to him as his blood.

“Are you ready?” the Ancient One asked.

Both Tony and Stephen nodded. Tony couldn’t look away from Stephen’s smile. How had he possibly gotten this lucky? To think, all because Tony had picked up a stranger’s coat in an absentminded attempt to be helpful and somehow gained the love of this man in front of him.

The vows were a blur and then Stephen was dragging him in for a kiss.

“You’re mine, now,” Stephen said, voice warm. “No escaping.”

Tony laughed. “Good thing I want to be yours.”

Stephen smiled. “And I want to be yours.” He stole another kiss. “Tonight, Tony. Tonight you take my coat.”
