Summary:

Sky still wasn't really sure what she was agreeing to. She certainly liked Alex a whole lot. Would she have said she loved him?

Meghan asks Sky if she "loves" anybody. Sky's...pretty sure she knows what that means. Maybe.

Notes:

Heavily relying on the "Warbler (and Quill) don't have romance because they're a distraction and a waste of time and rely too much on the feelings that the rulers are literally trying to repress" headcanons here because they're real and true to me.

Work Text:

"Sooo… Do you like like anyone?"

Sky simply stared. Sure, she liked plenty of people. She didn't really have the luxury of hate. (Not that she would admit to, anyways.)

"Or do you guys not have that on Warbler…?" Meghan asked, when she was answered only with silence. "We didn't have it in Quill, either."

"Have what?"

"Crushes. Feelings. Love." Meghan tossed the terms out onto the table in front of them. Sky only wished they were physical so she could sort through them better. "Romance. Attraction. Fancies."

Sky had heard love before. She loved her mother. She loved her brother. She nodded.

That seemed to be the answer that Meghan was looking for. Her eyes lit up, and she slammed her hands down on the lounge table, leaning in. "Who? You can tell me, I swear I'm good at keeping secrets like this!"

Secrets? It was no secret that she loved the little family she had. Sky very suddenly felt like she was, once again, misunderstanding the situation. Maybe she'd been wrong and that wasn't really what the word love meant? She needed to find a handheld dictionary to carry around with her. Would that be awkward, to pull out during conversations?

"Ummm…"

When it was clear Sky was avoiding answering the question, Meghan gasped. "Ohhh, I see. You don't wanna tell me. I get it…" She nodded, sitting back in her seat to consider this. She tapped a finger on her chin, mumbling, "Who could it be…?"

Now, Sky didn't want to say that she didn't understand. That would be admitting defeat, and she was not a quitter. Besides, if Quill didn't have it, either, then she had no excuse not to know. She'd been in Artimé for almost a month now! (Well, the restored thing, anyway.) She'd play along, even though she didn't have an answer to give.

"Well, I doubt it's Samheed or Lani, 'cause you don't really know them yet," Meghan was muttering. "And I don't think it's me." Her eyes went wide. "Oh my goodness, it's not Alex, is it?"

Sky still wasn't really sure what she was agreeing to. She certainly liked Alex a whole lot. Would she have said she loved him? He was the person she trusted perhaps the most in the world, right now, especially since he'd vowed to help save her mother. She would've done anything for him. She'd even been willing to let him look after Crow for her, so… "Yes?"

Meghan slapped a hand over her mouth in shock, then laughed. "Ohhh, it all makes so much sense now!" She shook her head. "Oh, have fun with that. I don't know that I agree with your judgment there, but the heart wants what the heart wants, I suppose."

"What?"

Meghan sighed. "I've known Alex for a long time now, and I'm not gonna drag his name through the mud, just…" She clicked her tongue. "Good luck."

"Why? What's wrong with Alex?" Sky asked.

Meghan just grimaced. "Nothing!"
