Work Text:
Yagi often ponders on how much simpler it is to be a thin old man, not much worth looking at when you pass others in the street. He thanks the gods for scent patches and the privilege of All Might’s anonymity. Plenty of omegas could be heroes, but All Might would inevitably face more controversy if it were ever assumed he wasn’t the alpha he appeared to be.
Truly, the secret was right there in his eyes. Alphas craved the fight, sure. Yagi had seen many alphas with a bloodthirsty gaze, muscles straining as they itched to rain blows on an opponent. But omegas fought fiercely to protect those they loved, Yagi among them.
He stumbles as a young woman knocks into him. She's in a rush and gives a hurried apology. Yagi stares after her as he coughs blood into his elbow. She moves on without much thought, and Yagi does his best to put it behind him as he continues on his walk to UA
Yagi makes his way to the teachers lounge to do some last minute grading and check that his lesson plan was ready, noticing he’s starting to feel a bit warm. Aizawa walks in for his morning coffee and strangely, Yagi can feel a growl building in his throat. He hurried to quiet it, shaking his head, confused.
Aizawa carefully eyes him as he pours coffee into his bright yellow mug. “You alright there?”
The smell of coffee is piercing Yagi’s nostrils. His fingers are gripping the edge of the desk and he knows that if he were in his hero form he would already have chunks of the desk crumbling in his hands. Dizziness starts to set in and something feels wrong. The older man frowns, one hand releasing the edge of the desk and coming to scratch at his neck. His fingernails catch on his scent patches, and a growl rumbles in his chest as he quickly tugs the patches free and lets them fall to wherever they end up.
He hasn’t answered Aizawa. The other omega steps closer and another growl breaks free from Yagi's chest this time, unable to even try to stop it. Aizawa halts. “Yagi? Is something wrong?”
Yes, he thinks. Something is very wrong. He feels on edge, like he’s missing something.
Is pup safe? his omega finally whispers. Where is pup?
That’s right, Yagi thinks, releasing a little whine. It hits him like a truck. He's missing his little green eyed pup, his sweet strawberry scent, his freckles like stars on his still-round cheeks.
Izuku, he thinks as he stands up suddenly, too suddenly. He coughs and red splatters on his sleeve and the smell of iron makes his omega more frantic. Where is pup Izuku? Yagi rushes around Aizawa, thoroughly ignoring the other omega in his rush to find his missing pup.
Aizawa blocks the door. “Yagi, what’s going on?” The dark haired omega studies the man before him. Yagi is sweating, and his eyes are nearly pitch black, big and round and dazed. There’s a furrow between the man’s brows and blood leaking between his clenched teeth. His shoulders are tense and the man is antsy as hell, jumpy in a way Aizawa had never seen him.
What gives it away are the noises spilling from the man’s throat. Low keens, searching chirrups. Omega sounds that Aizawa knows all too well.
Pup! Yagi trills at the other.
Aizawa squints. “You don’t have a pup, Yagi.” then he tilts his head, considering the fact that he didn’t even know All Might was an omega until this very moment. “Unless you do. Apparently, I don’t know anything.”
Yagi growls at the other omega. Pup! he huffs more insistently, trying to push Aizawa out of the way. He manages, barely, but annoyingly, the other omega still follows him as he starts looking for his pup. “Yagi!! Yagi you can’t just- what is even going on?!” he manages to get one hand closed around a thin wrist--
Toshinori, fed up, turns and puffs up into his hero form, looming menacingly over the man trying to keep him from his pup, the thin blue rings of his eyes glowing in a way that says, “stay out of my way or I'll kill you.” The growl that rang through the air only seems to emphasize how screwed Aizawa is.
So he lets go. Clearly, he’s no match for All Might, and maybe if he stops pushing his luck he can at least still follow the clearly feral omega to do some damage control. He whines, presenting his neck to the other still very pissed off omega.
Yagi seems to look him over before letting out a huff, ultimately uninterested in the man as long as he stays out of the way. He shrinks back to his smaller form and continues to sniff out his elusive pup.
All the hallways seem to bleed together to Yagi. They are blessedly, fairly empty, most students (if they value their attendance) already in their classrooms and waiting. It makes it easier for him to stalk down the halls, nose in the air, following his pup's sweet strawberry scent as quickly as he can.
His pup's scent doesn’t seem distressed, so slowly, his omega seems to come to terms that Izuku is unharmed. But still, Toshinori won’t be content until he sees him with his own eyes, scents him, and brings him back to his nest.
(Yagi fails to realize that in suppressing his omega for so long, he doesn’t yet have a nest. but it doesn’t matter. He has a pup, his pup needs a nest, so he will have one. Pup will help him build it.)
Dread sinks into Aizawa's chest like a heavy stone when he realizes there isn’t any way that they AREN’T going to his classroom. All at once, it becomes clear.
Ugh. Problem child.
At least he can somewhat relax now. The big buffoon would rather die than hurt Midoriya, and if he wanted his pup then he likely wasn’t going into heat anytime soon. Of course, if Midoriya were in any perceived danger, they were totally fucked. Yagi may not be able to transform for very long, but he hadn't been the number one hero for nothing. Hopefully anyone who would be dumb enough to hurt the kid would deserve what came next.
Yagi’s steps quickened as 1A’s looming doorway came into view, excited chirps escaping his blooming smile as his happy omega scent flared. He entered the room with no hesitation, leaving Aizawa scrambling to follow.
The kids chatting immediately quieted down, staring at All Might’s sudden appearance as he squeezed through the aisles in a straight shot to Izuku. the taller omega crouched, nuzzling into Midoriya’s hair, nose buried deeply in the soft green curls and taking in his scent.
“A-a-all Might?!?” Izuku was startled, his face turning beat red as Toshinori practically drenched him in his vanilla and cardamom scent.
Pup! Yagi chirped. He purred, hand coming to rest against the back of Izuku’s curls, pressing the teen in close. The omega soaked it in, relishing in his pup being safe in his arms. Safe now, Yagi crooned. Pup safe.
Izuku, who’s only parent had been a beta, had no idea what was going on. The moment didn’t even feel real, he wasn’t sure he believed any of whatever was happening. He must have slept in and missed his alarm. It's all just some odd dream.
His wide eyes travel from where they’d seemingly been stuck as he struggled to process just exactly what was going on, slowly shifting to his homeroom teacher still sitting in the front of the room.
Said teacher released an exhausted sigh. “Why is it always you, Midoriya?”
Izuku’s mouth dropped. “I didn't do this!” he screeched indignantly, a bit too loudly, Yagi’s happy purrs pausing as he eyes Aizawa at the front, a small growl building as a warning in his throat.
Aizawa pulse jumped, eyes wide as he cleared his throat, hushing his tone. “Calm down Midoriya, please,” he adds as Izuku seems to want to say something again. When Yagi’s eyes leave him and he goes back to scenting Izuku, Aizawa seems to release the breath he’d been holding and exhausted, he collapses into his seat.
“I don't know why or what happened, but All Might seems to be feral right now. He sees you as his pup, Midoriya. “
Izuku blinks even as he seems to unconsciously sink into the fussing omega holding him.
“Awwww,” Uraraka's voice breaks through the fog of confusion. “That's really sweet, Deku! I knew you guys were close but I didn't think you were that close.”
“Well, they do hang out all the time,” he hears Kaminari say to someone else. “They’ll never beat the favoritism accusations now,” he says jokingly.
“It totally makes sense,” Jirou says, like her earth was somehow shattered by this revelation. “I almost feel like we should have seen it coming.”
“I knew it,” Izuku hears Todoroki whisper quietly, and he knows he’ll never convince Shoto that he somehow isn't All Might’s love child ever again.
In front of him, Kacchan stares at him with some unnamed, knowing expression. His palms aren’t sizzling, but Izuku still looks for it anyway just in case. The blonde’s mouth is agape for a moment, but then snaps shut as All Might releases another growl, this time toward Bakugou as he makes eye contact with the boy and stares him down.
Unbeknownst to Izuku, his pup scent had slightly soured while waiting for Kacchan's reaction, and it was the final straw for Yagi.
With a determined grunt, Yagi lifted Izuku from his seat and carried the boy through the aisles and to the front of the room, and Izuku could only sputter as Aizawa called out, “Good luck, Midoriya. You're excused from classes until we figure out whatever the hell is going on.” The sounds of his friends bursting into commotion over what just happened followed him out of the room and his ears turned red as he swayed gently in Yagi’s grip.
Somehow, Izuku managed to convince Yagi to put him down about halfway to the dorms. Still, the omega was making a flurry of excited noises as he rushed Izuku down the hallway, coming to a stop at a door at the end. All Might struggled with the knob for a moment, scratching at the door when it wouldn’t give.
Izuku tilted his head at him. “Do you… need some help, All Might?” He turned to the door, trying the knob himself. Nothing. His eyes locked onto a nearby sensor. It seemed like a fingerprint scanner, which makes sense… Nezu was pretty enthusiastic about security.
Izuku turned back to All Might, eyes crinkled and kind as he reached for the elder’s hand. “Sorry, All Might, I need your hand for a minute.” Izuku led the hero’s hand to the sensor, pressing the pad of his finger on the surface until they heard a click, the omega clumsily using the knob to push the door the rest of the way open.
Izuku barely got the door closed as All Might’s large hand closed around his wrist and pulled him through the apartment. “-whOa!”
The omega had pulled him into what looked like his bedroom, only letting go once he had ushered Izuku into sitting on the end of the bed. All Might rushed to the closet, growls spilling from his lips as he dug furiously through the mound of blankets resting in the bottom of the shelves.
Izuku, now given some space, took his time looking at his favorite hero’s room. It was more bare than he had imagined it, certainly more bare than his own. There was a simple wooden frame on the nightstand with a worn picture inside. It was the only picture in the room.
Izuku frowned. There weren’t many pillows in the room, only one blanket, the bed neatly made. No lingering scents of pack-mates, no scent-objects. Not a single soft thing in sight. If anything, the room seemed more fit for a beta. His eyes trail back to All Might, who was still kneeled by the closet, sniffing two different blankets and seeming torn. Small, nearly imperceptible whines spilling from the older omega’s mouth as he looked back to Izuku.
“You don’t… know how to make a nest, do you?” Izuku whispered.
All Might whined again, one hand coming up to tug at his bangs as the other held the blanket even closer. The vanilla notes in his scent began to sour, making Izuku jump up and rush to the omega’s side.
“It’s okay, All Might! I promise, it’s okay. We can figure this out. A nest! How hard could it be?”
All Might’s scent evened out as he beamed at Izuku, a smile that Izuku thought felt familiar but still like something he had never quite seen before. Izuku wheezed as the omega pulled him into his arms, enthusiastically nuzzling and scenting him, trilling and squeezing him as hard as he could. The next second, All Might dumped him on the bed again, rushing back to the closet to gather all of the blankets in his arms and dump them on top of Izuku too.
Izuku laughed, entirely unused to seeing All Might so… normal. Silly, even.
Together, they moved the blankets around and arranged and adjusted them around the sides of the bed, forming the walls that would surround them. The omega had even gotten pillows from his living area to help support the sides and add extra cushion.
Finally, it came to a point where no matter what Izuku did, All Might stubbornly kept pushing him into the cushy center and softly growling whenever Izuku moved to get out of it. He played with the omega for a few minutes, teasing him by moving his leg in and out of the imaginary boundary and giggling when his growls abruptly transformed into a content chirrup, back and forth and back and forth until he finally cozied himself into the blankets and let the omega have what he wanted.
All Might beamed at him, nuzzling Izuku again to demonstrate how pleased he was that the pup had finally settled. Good pup! he chirped. The older man smoothed the blankets that were settled on Izuku’s legs, fussing with the edges as his brows furrowed.
The omega carefully climbed out of the nest, carelessly opening drawers in his dresser and rifling through them, searching for something. Izuku popped up and watched him with a raised brow.
Finally, All Might seemed to find what it was he wanted. Izuku only saw a glimpse of red and white before he found himself pushed back into the nest, the omega frowning in concentration as he worked the new fabric into the pillows behind Izuku’s head.
Izuku twisted his head around, eyes narrowing on the fabric until his jaw dropped as he finally recognized it. Red expanse of fabric with beaming white lines leading towards a white circle in the center. All Might started wrapping a swath of blue fabric around Izuku’s chest, pulling it close and ensuring his pup’s warmth.
Izuku’s eyes sparkled as he turned from the fabric to face the omega. “This… This is your golden age costume! Tri-Weave Alpha fabric! And the pattern on the chest! Did you know they designed it to redirect civilian attention during high-anxiety rescue situations—” Izuku runs his scarred fingers over the design, still talking a million miles an hour, “And—wait—this can’t be the second suit, that one had a stitching flaw in the right gauntlet— oh my gosh this is a REAL ONE—!”
Yagi purred as he listened to his pup ramble, content. Pup likes nest-gift! He leaned down, nuzzling his pup again. Pup happy, omega pleased. Warm, soft, good scent…
The omega gathered the pup into his arms, pleased with the way his vanilla lingered with Izuku’s strawberries and turned into something together.
Izuku had long stopped rambling, frozen in the face of All Might’s odd but comforting behavior. He buried his face in the omega’s chest, eyes stinging as he rubbed his cheeks into the older man’s scent.
Somehow, it was everything he had ever wanted. Everything he never knew he needed. Everything he never knew he could have.
Izuku sniffled, soft sobs falling from his mouth as he hugged the older omega tighter, desperate to keep this. Them.
He didn’t mean to cry.
Izuku was trying, really trying, to breathe normally, to hold himself together, to not melt the second the hero’s arms wrapped around him. But the moment he was tucked against that broad chest, swallowed in warmth and scent and soft, rumbling purrs meant just for him… it all overflowed.
It was the wanting.
The pure, instinctive wanting of him.
No one had ever held him like this. Not like he mattered. Not like he was precious. Not like he was someone you searched for, hunted for, kept safe against your heart.
Izuku’s fingers curled into All Might’s shirt, tiny compared to the omega’s big, trembling hands that kept petting and gathering him closer, like he might slip away if All Might didn’t keep touching, keep holding.
“I’m okay,” Izuku whispered, but it came out shaky, barely a breath.
All Might answered with a soft, desperate chirp that vibrated straight through Izuku’s ribs. The sound wasn’t angry or frightening, it was the kind of noise an omega made when they finally had what they’d been aching for. Like relief. Like joy.
Izuku squeezed his eyes shut, tears spilling warm into the fabric beneath his cheek.
He wants me.
He really wants me.
I don’t want this to stop… please don’t let this stop.
His chest hurt with how good it felt. How safe. How seen.
He buried his face deeper, gripping All Might like he was afraid the world would take him back.
“Please…” Izuku breathed, not sure what he was begging for.
Please stay.
Please keep holding me.
Please let me be wanted like this.
And All Might just tightened his hold and chirped again; softer, sweeter, utterly tender. Then a low, resonant sound rolled out of his chest.
Not a warning, not a demand. A decision.
All Might shifted forward on his knees, closing the tiny distance between them with slow, deliberate care. His eyes had gone soft and dark and certain, like his instincts had locked onto a single conclusion.
Izuku froze, breath catching. “All… Might?”
The omega answered with a gentle, chuffing chirp as he leaned in and pressed his forehead to Izuku’s—then slid one big, warm hand to the back of Izuku’s neck.
It was a claim.
His fingers curled into the soft hair at Izuku’s nape, palm spreading over the vulnerable junction of skull and spine. The touch was firm, but not forceful, just enough weight to say what Toshinori intended it to.
Mine.
Here.
Pup.
Belonging.
All Might’s hand stayed cupped around the back of Izuku’s neck, warm and steady, instinctually protective in a way that made every muscle in Izuku’s body loosen at once. The weight of the touch, firm but gentle, guiding but not restraining—sent a slow ripple of safety through him that he didn’t know how to hold.
His breath stuttered, and before he could stop it, a small, high sound slipped out of him. It wasn’t a whimper. It wasn’t a sob.
It was a pup-call. Thin, instinctual, pitched without conscious thought. A sound meant for comfort. A sound meant for a caregiver.
A sound meant for mom.
Izuku’s eyes went wide. His mouth snapped shut in horror. He didn’t even know he could make a noise like that.
All Might froze for a single, stunned heartbeat. Then something inside the omega broke open all at once, his shoulders sinking, his scent thickening, his breath catching in a soft, trembling exhale that was almost a sob of affection. He leaned in, forehead brushing Izuku’s temple, answering with a low, shivering croon that rumbled straight through Izuku’s chest.
Izuku felt his stomach twist, mortified and overwhelmed. “I—sorry, I don’t— I didn’t mean—”
But before he could finish, another helpless little chirp bubbled up from his throat, even smaller this time, an unconscious plea for comfort he’d never had the luxury of voicing before. His face went hot. He wanted to bury himself in the floor.
All Might didn’t let him.
The omega gathered him in instantly, both arms wrapping around him, one hand still warm and protective at his nape. He cooed softly, nuzzling into the space just behind Izuku’s ear, scenting him with a tenderness so genuine it made Izuku’s eyes burn all over again. There was no judgment in his touch. No confusion. No hesitation.
He responded like Izuku had done something precious.
Like Izuku had asked for him.
Like he’d been waiting to be needed like this.
Izuku’s throat worked around another tiny, instinctive chirp, less a sound and more a plea, and All Might tightened his hold, soothing him with a slow, steady rumble of comfort. It felt like a promise, like warm arms and steady breath and safety he’d never realized his body had been aching for.
Later, Izuku would think about what that sound meant, and maybe he’d be embarrassed.
But right now?
Right now All Might came when he called.
And that was enough to undo him all over again.
