Wings & Hearts

Summary:

Lilith arrives at the hotel at night and can't resist going into Lucifer's room.

Notes:

I don't know if this will be canon compliant but I needed Lucifer to be loved so I wrote this to make myself happy.

I like the idea of Lucifer's wings coming out when he's feeling relaxed or is weak/vulnerable and I had this image in my mind of Lilith lightly touching Lucifer's back as he slept and his wings slowly coming out.

Work Text:

Lilith arrived at the hotel later than expected and both Lucifer and Charlie had already retired to their rooms, as the sinner working at the bar informed her before offering to send someone to wake them up. She said it wasn’t necessary and made her way upstairs. She stopped in front of Lucifer’s door and decided to go inside. She just wanted to take a peek.

She found Lucifer asleep, looking smaller than ever in a bed clearly way too big for only one person, especially a Lucifer sized person. He was lying on his stomach, his golden hair was messy and the strands of his bangs, that he usually styled slicked back, were falling over his forehead. She approached his bed, sitting down at the edge, and watched his body moving just slightly with his breathing. He looked like the most beautiful man that Lilith had ever put her eyes on and she missed him. She didn’t think much as she moved to sit in the middle of the bed, right by his side, and reached a hand to touch him.

It was a delicate touch, something that couldn’t wake him up, but was enough to make his body start reacting. A tip of a finger running down his spine, from his nape to the small of his back, stopping right where he was covered by a thin white sheet, then restarting, from bottom to top this time. His body was relaxing under that light caress, recognizing her touch, and the closed slits on his back slowly started to open, the tips of his wings starting to peek out. She heard a sigh, but his breathing denounced that he was still asleep as his wings started to come out, little by little, the top ones first, the middle ones following right after, the bottom ones taking a little longer, but surely leaving their hideout as well.

Lilith’s smiled as she moved on the bed so his wings had space to spread. The top feathers being of pure white, the bottom ones of a crimson red, a mark of his sin. He was conscious of them at first, thousands of years ago, when they changed their color as if they had been stained with blood. But not anymore, he grew to be proud of them, as he was meant to be, and Lilith was the first one to tell him how gorgeous they were, more stunning than the wings of any angel still in heaven. She loved his wings, and her smile faltered a little when she realized the feathers were disarranged, messy, like they hadn’t been groomed in a long time.

She withdrew her hand from his back once his wings were completely out of his body, and raised it to touch the nearest one, the middle one springing free from his left side. The feathers felt silky on her fingers, warmth exhaling from them. A feather came loose, easily detaching from his body. That happened when they got too messy, his body demanding care and renewal. She imagined she was going to spend a long time grooming his wings the following day, and she was looking forward to it.

Slowly, Lucifer started moving. Lilith wasn’t sure what had woken him up, if it was her touch, the weight of his open wings or something else, but now he was stretching his body and groaning. It was when he turned on his side that he finally seemed to become aware of her presence, his half-lidded eyes soon opening wide, trying to confirm what he was seeing.

“Lilith?” He asked. His voice sounded hoarse with drowsiness, but he was already using his arms as a lever to get up. She hadn’t turned the lights on when she entered the room, but she knew he was able to see well in the dark with his shining red eyes.

Lucifer sat up on the bed, the sheet that was covering his lower body sliding off, leaving him fully exposed. He looked at her in bewilderment, as if trying to comprehend what was happening, how it was happening.

Soon, his lips turned upwards, but his eyes didn’t join it in a smile. They looked sad.

“I’m dreaming again,” he said. “This stupid mind of mine, always playing these cruel pranks on me.”

His words felt like a stab to her chest. Of course he had been dreaming. Lucifer had always been a dreamer, and his dreams were awfully realistic. Sometimes he would tell her about silly dreams he had, sometimes he would hold onto her seeking comfort after a nightmare. Lucifer always dreams, and his dreams tend to match his state of mind. It took him years to stop having recurrent nightmares about being banished from Heaven, of course it would take him a long time to stop dreaming about her. He loved her more than anything. She knew he did, she never doubted it.

“You’re not dreaming, love,” Lilith said. She sought his hands with hers and held them, showing him the solidity of her image, that she was really there in front of him. His dark, clawed fingers slowly closed around hers. “I’m here with you.”

He seemed doubtful, scared of being fooled by his own imagination again, she guessed. His wings now hovered over his body, spreading his loose feathers all over his bed, covering the mattress in red and white. They moved, slowly folding in her direction, as if trying to create a cage to stop her from leaving.

“You’re really back,” he said, still incredulous.

Lilith let go of one of his hands to touch his face, but she couldn’t do it for long, as almost immediately Lucifer threw himself in her arms, closing his own around her shoulders, pretty much jumping on her lap. She was ready for that, and promptly held him back, moving to sit more comfortably so he could straddle her and hold her with his legs too. His wings closed around her like a makeshift cocoon as he hid his face in the crook of her neck, where she could feel his tears falling on her skin and hear him sobbing next to her ear.

She was virtually stuck but she felt anything but as she tightened her arms around his thin waist, trying to give him more security, more proof that she was there with him, and that she wanted to be there with him.

“I missed you—I missed you so much,” he said in-between sobs.

“I know, darling. I’m sorry,”

They had issues to solve, she knew, and he did as well, but right now they felt unimportant. She would allow him to cling to her and would allow herself to embrace him. She missed him just as much as he did her. She didn’t know how much time passed with him refusing to budge, holding onto her so tightly it was like he wanted to become part of her. Maybe he did. She didn’t mind, though, she felt blessed by his love, his loyalty, his possessiveness.

Finally, Lucifer hesitantly loosened his hold so he could raise his head to look at her, but his legs and wings remained enveloping her. His face was wet with tears, his eyes were slightly swollen and she could see he had dark shadows under them, evidence that he hadn’t got a good night's sleep in a long time. But right now his eyes were glowing with excitement, the initial bewilderment passed and was replaced by sheer mirth. She placed a hand on his face again, and he leaned into it like a dog to his owner’s petting, then covered her hand with his.

How could she resist kissing him? He seemed caught off guard, but didn’t let it show for long and soon kissed her back, moaning into her mouth. Still mid-kiss, Lilith let herself fall onto Lucifer’s bed, careful not to hurt his wings, with him falling with her. They were lying on their sides, facing each other. Lucifer unwrapped his legs from her and just moved them so they were entangled with hers now, his tail joining them, getting curled around her thigh. It was like he needed to be touching her in every possible way, he wanted every inch of his body all over her, and hers all over his.

Lilith pulled away, ending the kiss with a soft brushing of her lips on his. She smiled, and he smiled back. She grabbed his hand again, bringing it close to her mouth to kiss his knuckles.

“It’s late and I didn’t mean to wake you up. You should go back to sleep now. I know you haven’t been sleeping well.”

“How can I sleep now? What if I wake up and… You’re not here anymore…” His smile faded.

“I’m not going anywhere,” she tried to reassure him.

“But,” he paused. “If I wake up and find out it’s a dream… I…”

She kissed him again, licking through his lips, but didn’t keep going for too long.

“You’ll wake up and I’ll be right here with you. And we’ll go downstairs and meet Charlie. Later I’ll groom your wings to make them look worthy of the most beautiful angel in existence again, and then we can…” she held his chin. “Do some other things.”

She thought it was cute how easily she was still able to make him blush.

“Can’t we do some other things now?” He asked. So much of his golden blood went to his face that it was almost glowing.

Lilith chuckled, amused.

“Oh my, you’re supposed to be the sin of pride, not of lust.”

Lucifer couldn’t help but smile again.

“I missed you so much,” he said again, and this time he was the one to touch her face. “Every day, all the time.”

“Me too, my love,” she said before turning her face to kiss his palm. “But you need to sleep and I’m tired too.”

“Mmkay,” Lucifer said. He didn’t sound disappointed as he moved his hand away from his face. “But can you, hm, take this off?” he asked, touching her dress.

“Yeah, not a very comfortable dress to sleep in,” she answered.

Lilith sat up to take her dress off, letting her panties slide down her legs together with it, carelessly discarding both on the floor. Once naked, she lied down again, welcoming Lucifer’s body into her arms as his wings enveloped her again.

Lucifer buried his face on Lilith’s neck and breathed in her scent, as she did with her face on his hair.

“I love you, Lilith,” he said in a whisper.

“I love you too, Lucifer.”

He quickly fell asleep in her arms, probably feeling completely at peace. Lilith took a bit longer to follow him, enjoying the warmth of his body against her and the sound of his soft snoring. At least for a little while she could pretend everything was okay.
