Work Text:
Agents O and K of the Ghost Investigation Ward were sitting in their on-duty car and talking.
"I know it had been two years already, but I am still... I don't know-" "Surprised?" "Surprised! I'm still surprised Agent F joined." Agent O spoke.
K nod. "Yes, yes. I, too, never thought that the Fenton boy would join us. Then again his father."
"More like he joined in spite of his father. Don't teens consider their parents interests to be embarrassing normally?" O wondered. "And Jack Fenton was and still is very enthusiastic about us."
"Thinking about it, do the doctors Fenton know their son works for us?"
O shook his head. "No. Dr. Mrs. Fenton is still bothered her son is considered the better ghost hunter. I doubt the kid is telling them anytime soon."
"The 'kid' is 24, O." countered K. "But yes, the doctors were quite jealous."
The Agents recall it. The third invasion, the second by the ghost king. Pariah Dark, as Red Huntress called him, was actively seeking out Phantom, which left Amity Park defenseless. Including but not limited to the mercy of the Fright Knight.
The Fenton's, the doctors, tried to capture it, but the Knight overwhelmed them, having them end up in their own trap. Then their son appeared and attacked the ghost. Not only did he get three perfect shots back to back onto the ghost, one shot ridding the ghost of their sword, but they also managed to catch them in a Thermos.
Turns out, while it was a Fenton Thermos, it was heavily modified by Daniel Fenton. After capturing the Fright Knight, Daniel and the Red Huntress vanished. Soon after Phantom appeared and fought Pariah Dark.
A few weeks after that, they approached Daniel and offered him a job as an Agent.
"Maybe after college." the, back then, High School Senior said. Four years later, he approached them. "Is the offer still standing?"
And now Agent F regularly shows up the aging doctors.
"Should we be worried they don't recognize F?" K wondered. "He isn't build like any of us. Sure he is tall." Considering his father, no surprise there. "But he isn't as build as us." he said, flexing his muscles.
O rolled his eyes. "I am more worried that their inventions continue to go off at him... okay, it is weird they don't recognize him. Sun glasses and a white suit isn't that big of a change. And his hair is still..."
"A bird's nest?"
"A bird's nest."
Then their radio came to life.
"Agent O, Agent K, please stop gossiping about the newbie." spoke Agent H's voice. "There has been data theft, someone stole 8 terabytes worth of sensitive data. Please return to the HQ now. And inform Agent F if you can, we can't reach him. His signals seem to be jammed."
"Ecto jam?" inquired K.
"Yes. We only had that level of jamming when the city was in the Ghost Zone." H informed them. "He was chasing after a level 10 ghost the last time we had contact." With that, the message ended.
"How does she think we'll find him if they lost his signal when he was after a Level 10?!" O seethed in utter frustration. "If he were any other Agent, I'll doubt he'll return alive." K just nod. "Well then, back to the HQ, K."
With that, they drove off.
Sam and Tucker were in Tucker's apartment, in the city center. A portal opened and Phantom flew out.
"What did Pariah want now?" Sam asked him.
"The same as always. Claiming me as his heir, and trying to convince me to help take over the Zone." Phantom replied. He then turned into his other half. Daniel Fenton, also known as Agent F.
"Please get out of this damned suit." his girlfriend demanded.
He rolled his eyes and took of the shades. "Do I need to remind you that it was your idea that I spy on the Guys in White like that?"
She waved him off. "You got the intel?"
"8 terabytes of it." he replied, before handing Tucker multiple hard drives.
Valerie came into the room. "Ah, world's best spy is there. Any news from the GIW?"
He put the shades back on. "This info is classified! But it is not a data leak of 8 terabytes..."
"It is scary how well you got that act down." Tucker commented. "Oh, so much data."
"I tried to get 12 TB, but Agent H tried to contact me, so I just lied about tracking Pariah and noped out to the Zone. Where Pariah found me..."
"Get changed, Danny. I don't like to see you in these clothes." Sam demanded.
"Can't. There is a meeting. Probably about the leak."
Dashiel Baxter, newest coach of Casper High, sighed. That annoyance Sydney Pointdexter spooked the Football team again. This hadn't had happened since his year graduated. Ishiyama had called the GIW for a more... final solution, so now it was his job to wait for Mister. Man-In-Black-Knock-Off. Ishiyama hates to interact with the Guys in White, which, fair. These guys hunt after Phantom.
Then a GIW van appeared and a man in a white suit came out. Aside from the typical suit, he was rather lean for a Ghost Investigation Ward Agent.
"Couch Baxter?" He asked. "This is Agent F."
"That is me." Dash answered. Walking closer to the guy, he recognized them. "Wait, Fenton?"
"Oh, you recognize me." he replied. Danny took his glasses off.
Dash blinked. "You work for the GIW?"
"Yeah... now, Sydney is the issue, yes? Still Locker 718?" Dash nod. "Oh, good. That shouldn't take long." He walked into the school building.
As soon as 'Agent F' left him alone, Dash fished out his phone and called his girlfriend, Paulina.
She soon picked up. "Dash! You know not to call when the baby is sleeping!"
"Sorry, Paulina, but something wild is happening!"
He could hear her sighing. "In regards of the GIW? Did they pick a fight with Ishiyama?"
"No. Turns out Fenton works for the GIW! Agent F was assigned our case."
Paulina was silent for a bit. "You're telling me Danny Fenton is a GIW Agent? His group hated them in High School!"
"I know!"
"I need to tell Star!"
"And I call Kwan!"
Soon, Agent F returned. He told Dash, "You know, Sydney would keep you alone if you would get your bullying under control. You, a student from 2009, should know that, Baxter."
Dash eeped. "Yes, A-Agent F."
Danny nod and left.
"Man, since when is he so scary? Must be the GIW training..."
And with that, the news spread.
Danny and Jazz were in front of their childhood home. It wasn't rare that their parents called for them to come, they have monthly family dinners, but they just had one last week.
"Maybe they try to motivate us to marry. They have been vocal about wanting grand babies." Jazz proposed.
"Yeah, I should tell them I'm barren now, should I?" Danny countered. "So unless they're fine with adoption-Sam's parents sure aren't-they can wait for a long time." Pamela and Jeremy still try to break them off. (Jeremy hired a Private Investigator, who found out about his infertility. They literally said they won't accept any adopted kids.)
"Don't you think about breaking up with Sam, Danny."
"I won't." Sam said they'll die soon, with their self imposed misery. Sometimes, he is worried about his girlfriend. "Sam doesn't care if she gets disowned."
The door then opened and Jack pulled Danny into a bone breaking hug. "Why didn't you tell us you're working for the Ghost Investigation Ward!"
"The identities of Agents are supposed to be classified." Danny said, struggling for air. "Dad! Need air!"
"Oh, right!" Jack let him go. "I'm just so excited."
"How do you know about this?" Jazz inquired. What Danny said wasn't a lie after all.
"Caryn Baxter told us." Maddie revealed.
"Mm, Dash did recognize me, I suppose he told a few people." Danny said. "Shit."
"Language!" Maddie scolded him.
"First of all, mom, in 24! Cussing is normal for my age group! And secondly, I am sorry, but now I am worried to get fired from my job! Like I said, our identities are supposed to stay classified!" he snapped at her.
"Oh..." Maddie said, taking a few steps back. "That is... shit."
Jazz hugged their dad, seeing he was teary eyed. "Shush, dad."
Jack tried to calm down. "Well, if you loose your job, y-you can always work for the family business!"
'I prefer not to.' he thought. "I actually thought about utilizing my college degree. Or getting another one, returning to college."
"Oh, yeah, right. Your degree in Astro Physics."
"And Minor in Astronomy."
Tucker high fived Danny. "I can't believe your plan worked."
Danny shrugged, "Quitting would be sus, but being fired for a slip up? Hey, Agent HR said Agents aren't send to familiar areas for a reason."
Valerie laughed at the agent's moniker. "Agent HR, huh?"
"Well, actually Agent R, but they work in HR, so..." he said.
"But seriously, any progress to search for a new job?" Sam asked. "We may not care if my parents disown me, but we still need money." Due to a few incidents in her family, namely failed marriages of female relatives, Sam does not want to give him free access to the money Grandma Ida left her.
"I'm not sure of the rejections come from the Fenton Reputation or from working with the GIW." He shrugged, "Vlad, of course, is bugging me to work for him."
"Be his heir?" Tucker probed.
"Yeah. He... did offer to pay for another college degree... any degree if I go to the University of Madison." Danny informed them. "And he would pay my student loans."
"Go for it." Valerie said. "You would be an idiot for rejecting this."
Sam nod. "But I am not moving to Wisconsin, even if it is just for another 4 years. Unless..."
"We adopt when I have a secure job." Danny stated.
"Okay."
"On the note of family, did you tell your parents?" Valerie said. "They would stop annoy you about grand babies."
"And put all their focus on me." Jazz sighed.
"I'll tell them, when I tell them about any college plans... I... I consider to become an Investigator." Danny revealed.
"Huh?" Tucker voiced. "Why?"
"My protection obsession. When I was on investigative missions, my obsession felt soothed." Danny explained. "To become one in Illinois, I would need a degree in criminology or law related fields, work as a cop for a few years..."
"Danny..." Sam said, her voice in a scolding tone, "This career path is suspiciously long to get a 'secured job'."
Danny and Jazz sighed. Jazz told her, "Not every decision he makes is about your parents!" She turned to Danny. "I think you should do it."
"And take Vlad up on his offer. Suck his money dry." Valerie added.
Two weeks later, Jazz and Danny, with Sam in tow, returned to FentonWorks for this month's family dinner. This month, Alicia even joined them. Now if she brought her new boyfriend is a different question.
Jazz opened the door with her keys. "We arrived! And Danny brought Sam!"
"Did you finally propose?" Jack asked.
"Stop pressuring the kids, Jack." Alicia said. She then told Danny, "Don't think about marriages before you got a solid income, kid."
"On it, Alicia." he said.
Maddie hugged Sam, "It is nice to see you again, Sam. How's the work at the morgue?"
"The newbie managed to loose twelve brains." she quipped.
"Wait, what?" Jazz voiced.
"I said what I said, Star is incompetent."
"Sam..." Jazz scolded.
"What are you working as?" Alicia asked, looking weirdly at Sam.
"Mortician Tech. But I consider to return to college to become a coroner." Sam told her.
Alicia nod. "Mm, quite the job choice."
Maddie called, "get seated, dinner is ready!"
Everyone got seated at the table. His parents, after they both left the nest, updated some of the furniture. While his mom still kept her futuristic 70s styling for the living room, albeit it started to resemble the 80s more, some furniture pieces like their dining table were straight up replaced. The new table can be extended.
From a circle to an elongated pill shape, enough space for the parents, their kids, Alicia and their partners. If Jazz would have one.
"Now, Jasmine. Your brother has a girlfriend, what about you?"
"I prefer to get established in my career first. However, there is a new psychiatrist whose kind of cute." Jazz admitted. "But I think he is taken. He wears a black ring on his right hand."
"So, he may be a swinger?" Alicia quips. She placed some of her sister's casserole onto her plate.
"He could be asexual. The aces wear black rings. Commonly on the right middle finger to avoid being confused for a swinger, but most people either think swinger or that the ring has no meaning at all." Sam chimed in.
"Mm, I don't recall on which finger he wore it." Jazz muttered. "I'll pay attention next time I see him."
"Or just ask him, Jazz." Sam offered. Jazz nod.
"Now, Danny, how is the job hunt going?"
"I... have an announcement. I will return to college for a degree in criminology." he stated. "I decided I want to become a detective, an investigator."
"Oh! That is quite the choice, Danny. Any specific plans?" Maddie commented.
"Yes. Like I said, a degree in criminology. Illinois police officers require a degree in a related field. From there, I wanna work my way up the rank of a detective." Danny explained. "I... I'll go to Wisconsin for the degree. Not the University of Madison, mind you." After talking to Vlad, he still agreed to pay, as long as it is some school near him.
"How do you plan to afford that degree? Especially with your ongoing loans?" Alicia inquired.
"Vlad offered to pay for me."
"He did?" Maddie asked surprised.
"He paid for me." Jazz added.
"Ah, V-Man! We need to thank him for that." Jack said happily. "So, you'll move away again?"
"Yes, but I'll try to return afterwards." Danny said. "I... already got accepted."
"Apropos after college... when are you and Sam planning on having kids?" Maddie asked. Alicia rolled her eyes.
"About that..." He rubbed the back of his neck. "Mom, dad, we, um, we discovered that I'm barren."
"What."
"I'm infertile." he said. "Probably a side effect from the ecto..." Not a full lie. It is a side effect from the accident. Which fused ecto into his DNA.
"But we're considering adoption." Sam added.
Maddie nod. "Adoption? Well, if that is the plan, we will support you all the way."
