The Warden and the Sheriff

Summary:

Tango wasn’t looking where he was going while taunting Echo during a chase on the rooftops, and now the blaze was falling, most likely to his death, as he’d forgotten his glider that morning. He closed his eyes and braced for impact.

He landed with a soft thud, but not on the pavement, the blaze soon realized.

OR:
Five times Jimmy saves Tango, and one time Tango saves Jimmy.

A superhero AU Ranchers 5+1!
(Might expand this to explore other relationships once I’m finished.)

Chapter 1: One

Chapter Text

Tango, or Warden, had been dubbed a supervillain due to his rather destructive methods of getting things done, but he learned to live with the idea of that.

He also lived with two other “villains”, Ren the Red King, and Vex, otherwise known as Scar Goodtimes. The trio weren’t the only group of villains in the city, but they were the most well known. Their Coven often went head to head with the trio of heroes ironically known as the Bad Boys. The Bad Boys were made up of the avians Sheriff and Echo, along with the human Apollo.

The blaze hangs up his coat and walks into the living room he shared with his teammates.

“Guys,” he mutters dejectedly, collapsing on the couch, “I’m so screwed.”

Ren looks up from the book he was reading. “How so, my dude?”

“I’m crushing on the canary.”

“Oh my,” Scar says, "That does indeed throw a wrench into our operations. When did you realize this?”

*flashback to earlier the same day*

Tango wasn’t looking where he was going while taunting Echo during a chase on the rooftops, and now the blaze was falling, most likely to his death, as he’d forgotten his glider that morning. He closed his eyes and braced for impact.

He landed with a soft thud, but not on the pavement, the blaze soon realized. He opened his eyes to see he was in the Sheriff’s arms.

He hadn’t realized how cute the canary was until just now. Blushing an intense red, Tango was suddenly very grateful for the gas mask that contained his voice modulator.

“Why did you catch me?” he asked softly.

“Because you were in danger,” the hero smoothly replied, matching Tango’s tone, “and it’s my job to help people in danger.”

*end of flashback*

“Earlier today.”
