They’d been at it for hours now, picking apart the lies piece by piece. Every secret Merlin had ever kept. Every time Arthur had misplaced his trust.
“Is that everything?” Arthur asked. Merlin’s teeth were gritted, eyes blue as bruises, but he shook his head.
“Don’t make me say it.”
“Tell me,” Arthur insisted. “What are you hiding?”
Merlin’s jaw worked. The truth forced its way out, regardless.
“I love you,” he said, bitter as nightshade. “And I’ll never forgive you for any of this.”
