Chapter 1: Snowy Silence

Chapter Text

Velvette had woken up for the first time in what felt like a century without an alarm blaring from the phone on her bedside table. Rolling over in the bed showed the other side empty with the covers bunched up towards the middle of the mattress, an oddity for sure as normally it was Velvette awake at the crack of dawn to start her makeup routine.  Blinking tiredly, the doll sinner stretched with a sigh as her joints cracked and crawled out of bed. One touch of the hardwood floor had her magicking a pair of fur  lined slippers onto her feet before she slid on her robe, a dark fluffy maroon chosen for warmth not fashion.

The vanity that had taken residence in the corner of the large room months ago was ignored; she had no plans for the day that required her to be camera ready, instead leaving the room to find her missing girlfriend. One of her favorite things about staying over at the Carmine home was the quiet, she mused as she made her way downstairs. She loved her tower, don’t get her wrong, but even when it was after hours there was always noise; the servers droning, Valentino’s night filming, the employees that lived in the lower levels meant constant background noise that was near inescapable.

Downstairs she could hear quiet music coming from the kitchen, a quick peek through the doorway showing Carmilla standing at the counter, long hair still down and slightly mussed in her own gray robe. Velvette’s first instinct was to walk in and wrap her arms around the taller woman’s waist; at least until her eye caught the view through the window. She turned quickly, rushing to the living room to one of her favorite spots, a large window seat that overlooked the walled in back property where she loved to sit and sketch.

Instead of the normal red sky of Pride, it was a muted gray, thick snow coming down to blanket the ground. It rarely snowed in Hell, and almost never enough to actually stick around for more than a few minutes but based on the frost curling up the edges of the window today’s storm would last. She took a moment to grab Carmilla’s throw off the couch to wrap around her before curling up on the window seat, head propped against the wall to stare outside.

She’d zoned out within minutes, startling when a hand holding a familiar heart covered mug appeared in front of her, steam rising from the top. She took a deep breath to steady her racing heart as she took the drink, grinning when the scent of spicy hot chocolate reached her nose. Without a thought she shifted over to give Carmilla enough room to slide behind her, moving back once the older woman was settled with her back against the wall to sit between her legs, leaning against her chest while sipping her drink.

“I heard you come downstairs.” Carmilla murmured, one hand coming up to run fingers through the short curls Velvette was currently sporting. “We could go out if you’d like?”

At her words, Velvette shook her head, burrowing deeper into the blanket cocoon she’d made herself. “I just like watching. Reminds me of home.” She admitted quietly, quickly bringing her cup to her lips to cover the vulnerability.

The hand that had been scratching at her scalp in the way she liked moved, wrapping around her before she had a chance to complain. She craned her head back to look up at Carmilla, getting a kiss to the forehead and pulled closer against her chest. Velvette relaxed in the hold, head turned against her lover to watch the snow fall, the only noise the pair breathing.  The cell phone she left upstairs was probably blowing up with fires she’d need to put out even though she wasn’t planning on going back to the tower until the following day, but for once she wasn’t worried about the constant stream of information, content to stay where she was for as long as possible.
