You Were Awesome

Summary:

It should have been a normal day in the classroom. It was emphatically not.

Notes:

This fic contains an attempted classroom shooting. If this will do you psychological harm, please click away. I am happy to fill in the blanks for you later, if future installments of the series should reference this incident.

Work Text:

“All right, everyone on the floor!”

Jazz’s optics slid toward the person who had just stepped through the door of his classroom–armed with a rifle and knives, tall, possibly organic but technorganic was more likely at their size, two arms, four legs, snout instead of a nose, teeth as long as his fingers–while his students screamed and flung themselves down. Some of the kids were crying, almost instantly, while one of them was reaching for something in their bag as carefully as possible. A moment later an alarm sounded and Prowl pinged his comm immediately.

Jazz pinged back an old ops code–immediate danger, send backup–and then turned slowly away from his lightboard.

“On the floor, old mech!” The assailant yelled again.

“Yeah, I don’t think so.” Jazz frowned as he activated the latch on the hidden panel of his right forearm so that he could get to his knife. “You’re gonna put that rifle down, put your hands in the air, and wait nicely for security. Or you’ll have about ten kilks to regret it.”

“Professor!” One of his students hissed, clearly trying to get him to comply.

“Should listen to your students, old mech.” The techno-organic aimed the rifle at his head.

Jazz flipped the dagger out of his forearm and threw it.

The rifle fired, going wide and hitting the ceiling instead of his helm. The dagger flew into their chest with a dull thud.

The assailant looked down in confusion as blood seeped around the blade. Jazz used the time to leap forward, grab their arms and pull them around behind them. They roared when they realized Jazz was wrestling them into a pair of stasis cuffs that he’d had stashed in his subspace.

And the student that he’d heard reaching into their bag darted forward and slammed a taser into the techno-organic’s chest and discharged it.

The techno-organic crashed to the ground unconscious a moment later and Jazz looked up at his student with a smile. “Good work, Diamond. Automatic pass for the week’s material.”

Diamond laughed weakly, almost hysterically, and Jazz joined a moment later. He was going to have to stop by First Aid’s clinic after this; he was getting too old for maneuvers like that.

When Prowl arrived with security a few minutes later, he let himself fall into his partner’s arms, though. He hadn’t been scared in the moment, but thinking about what could have happened to the students had him rattled.

“You were awesome, Professor!” Another of his students, a transfer from Vos who’s name he still couldn’t remember, flung themselves against his back and hugged him tightly. “Thank you so much!”

“They’re right,” Prowl agreed. “You were awesome.”
