I'll Only Hurt Them If You Let Me

Summary:

The muffled, disjointed words roamed around Avid's brain, too dull to make any real impact but loud enough to be heard.

"Blood moon"

"Feed"

Suddenly the words weren't so quiet and the voices weren't so fuzzy. Slowly Avid began to come to his senses and he risked cracking one eye open.

In front of him were two men. But Avid recognized them.

Owen...

Pyro...

Chapter 1: The Crypt

Notes:

hey just wanted to explain a bit about this au.

this au diverges from canon in episode five. in this fic avid never gets turned by shelby instead he goes looking for scott.

also one more important thing: in this fic instead of the vamps just getting more powerful during blood moons they become blood thirsty monsters :)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"HELP" The scream came out hoarse and painful, reverberating off the walls of the cold crypt.

No response.

Avid felt himself sink to the floor as he cried out in despair, sobs shaking his whole figure. How could he have been so stupid? He knew it was a bad idea to go out into the woods alone, especially with vampires running around, and yet he had done it anyway. And for what. To beg Scott to sink his teeth into his neck, to drink his blood turning him into a vampire in hopes that it would heal his wound. Pathetic.

"Why won’t you shut up already!" Pyro barked. "You've been screaming your head off for the last hour".

Avid was still trying to make sense of what had happened. The last thing he remembered was wandering through the woods, tripping on roots and fallen trees calling out Scott's name over and over hoping to run into the begrudgingly handsome vampire. Then nothing... his memory was blank.

"Why am I here?" Avid screamed, fighting against the ropes binding his wrists and feet to a pillar of stone.

"Well I thought it would be obvious Mr. Vampire Hunter. Tonight's a blood moon and us vampires need someone to feed on".

Avd felt a lurch in his stomach as he realized that he was completely to blame for what was going to happen to him.

"Oh, so you just found me in the woods like a sitting duck and swooped me up".

"Well you weren't very subtle about it. Next time you're looking for the man almost everyone wants dead try not to scream his name so loudly. You could attack unwanted attention," Pyro advised with a cool smile, "Although I'm not sure there will be a next time for you after tonight," He grinned, flashing two long, savage fangs in Avid's direction.

“You're sick,” Avid shuddered, trying to look fierce as he glared at Pyro. Stupid, meddling Pyro who had snuck up on him in the forest with no consequences and hid him away in some massive crypt.

"I will not be your food source," Avid gritted out, rage pulsating through the dank air.

"We'll see about that," Pyro leered towards him pulling something out from the depths of his pocket.

"What are you doing with that?" Avid whispered, but it was too late because Pyro was already creeping closer, handkerchief clasped in his hand.

“Turns out the Doc isn't as safe with his medical tools as he thinks he is," Pyro responded, spitting every word into Avid’s face.

"Scott’s going to be furious when he finds out, he'll kill you," Avid tried to sound strong but inside he was petrified with fear.

"And that's why Scott's not going to find out," Pyro whispered venomously as he slowly brought the cloth doused in a sweet smelling liquid to Avid’s nose.

"Wait...." Avid choked out, desperately hoping for even a fraction of pity from Pyro. But Avid was out of time and he was already drifting in and out of consciousness, lulled to sleep by the drugs he was unwillingly breathing in, "Please...."

The last thing that Avid heard as he fell into darkness was Pyro cold, cruel laugh and then nothing.

。・:*˚:✧。

Avid was floating through a shadowy mist. Reaching, grabbing for anything but there was nothing there. There was nothing anywhere.

Suddenly cold hit him, a deep, chilling cold that soaked all the way through his thin clothes down to his bones. He screamed when his bones began to turn brittle and break beneath him and he collapsed to the hard ground.

His body cried out in pain as his limbs hit the stone bending in all kinds of unnatural ways. He felt broken and lost. He began to wonder if this was how he was going to die. His body destroyed, his mind insane, and his heart shattered.

He knew what was coming as he felt an odd weightlessness fill his body, death.

He opened his eyes wishing to for the last time see something other than blackness when he realized he was floating. Avid felt his body lift towards the sky, soaring higher and higher and beginning to spin.

But it was spinning far too fast. So fast that he had to close his eyes to keep from puking as clouds and lights sound around him shouting at him to listen.

Then he dropped to the ground.

But it wasn't hard like before, it was strangely fluid and moving like water.  Like long ribbony shadows.

And the shadows were grabbing at him holding him down. He was trapped in this lake of darkness.

He screamed until his throat ached, he writhed against the blackened hands holding him in place until there was no skin or flesh left on his arms and legs, only bone. Avid finally let out one more bloodcurdling scream and the ground collapsed beneath him, swallowing him whole.

。・:*˚:✧。

He was drowning. Avid slowly sinking beneath the darkness that had once held him. He tried to breathe but there was no air wherever he was. He was going to die in whatever twisted reality he was in, sink to the bottom of a sea of shadows and let it consume him.

Avid slowly began to close his eyes, at least in death he didn't have to worry about the gruesome scratch on his neck or Scott.

Oh Scott…

Avid felt his heart shatter with the thought. He was never going to see Scott again. Hear his voice, his laugh, see his smile. It would all be gone. But then again so was Avid.

"Stupid"

"Forest"

"Alone"

"Asleep"

"Scott"

The muffled, disjointed words roamed around Avid's brain, too dull to make any real impact but loud enough to be heard.

"Blood moon"

"Feed"

Suddenly the words weren't so quiet and the voices weren't so fuzzy. Slowly Avid began to come to his senses and he risked cracking one eye open.

In front of him were two men. But Avid recognized them.

Owen

Pyro

"The fool is still knocked out. He'll be easy prey," Pyro reasoned.

"Yes but what do you think Scott will do when he finds out?" Owen asked sceptically.

"Don't worry about Scott. He doesn't even have to know, and he won't if sleeping beauty over here can keep his mouth shut," Pyro hissed gesturing at Avid who immediately shut his eyes tightly.

Wham!

"Hey guys I am home," A new voice called out.

"Anyone home?" Shelby asked.

"Oh God," Pyro murmured. "You stay here," He instructed "And make sure the human doesn't do anything foolish".

And then he was gone, dashing up the stairs of the crypt away from Owen and Avid.

"Shelby!" Pyro's cry echoed down to the crypt, "What are you doing home so fast, I thought you were out hunting".

"Oh I was, but there were so many animals Pyro. More than I've seen in days, so I thought that I would only kill a few and leave the rest for later," Shelby reasoned.

"So long as you brought home some blood it's fine with me," Pyro grinned licking his lips.

"Of course," Shelby smiled, handing over a few crimson filled bottles.

And then Avid screamed.

"Help!" He yelled out, praying that by some slim chance Shelby would hear him, hear anything.

"You idiot," Owen hissed leaping forward and slapping his hand over Avid’s mouth " Do you realize what you have just done"

Avdi slowly began to find himself regretting his reckless actions, and fear began to set in as he looked into Owen's blood red eyes, overflowing with rage.

And then he heard it.

"Pyro, did you hear that?" Shelby asked, almost too quietly for Avid to pick up on down in the crypt.

"Hear what, Shelby?" Pyro scoffed, but Avid thought he could hear a little bit of fear creeping into his voice.

"That sound... it almost sounded like someone calling for help" Shelby said unsteadily.

"I'm sure you're just imagining things, Shelby. You're tired, why don't you go upstairs and take a rest?" Pyro reassured her, already leading her towards the stairs and away from where Avid was tied up.

"Alright…" she said slowly, beginning to climb up the stairs.

"No!" Avid cried into Owen's calloused hand.

And then he did something that surely would cost him his life later.

He sank his teeth into the flesh of Owens' hand.

The effect was instant. Owen immediately recoiled furiously, looking at Avid with pure disgust.

But it was too late because Avid was already Ed screaming for help.

"HELP! HELP! SHELBY, PLEASE! HELP!" he shouted into the echoing crypt.

And this time his pleas were impossible to ignore. The moment she heard them Shelby immediately whipped around glaring directly at Pyro.

"Pyro. Why is someone begging for help?" she seethed, anger dripping from each word.

"Shelby...." Pyro whispered slowly, hands raised in front of him.

"And why does that someone sound… like Avid?" Shelby murmured, cold gaze piercing through Pyro's confident facade.

"Just think about what you're doing," Pyro hissed, trying to calm her.

"No." She said coldly, pushing past him, heading directly for the crypt.

"Shelby, wait," Pyro huffed, running after her as she dashed away.

But it was too late , Shelby had already reached the bottom of the crumbling stone stairs leading down to Avid's prison.

"AVID!" Her horrified scream penetrated the gloom as her gaze flicked across Avid's bruised and bleeding complexion and down to his firmly tied rope binds.

"What have you done?" she growled at Owen.

"Shelby… It's not what it looks like," Owen defended, taking a step back.

"Really, it's not what it looks like" Shelby laughed, but it sounded cold and twisted, unnatural. "What was it supposed to look like, then? Avid hasn't done anything wrong, so why is he tied up in a crypt, Owen?" she said, slowly stalking closer.

"Shelby..."

"Answer my question," she hissed, showing her fangs.

Avid screamed.

"SHELBY! LOOK OUT!

But there was nothing he could do. Pyro had already pounced, taking Shelby down with him.

She cried out in pain, but it didn't matter. Pyro lifted a jagged, pointed stone and collided it with Shelby's skull.

Avid heard a sickening crack the moment the rock found its target.

Blood splattered across Pyro's face as he went in for the next hit, bashing the boulder into Shelby's temple.

Avid cried out, begging Pyro to stop his brutal attack as Shelby's blood splattered across the cobbles.

"You'll kill her," he yelled, shaking with sobs.

Crack. The stone hit her again.

There was a thud...

Then, nothing.
