Work Text:

No one said anything as they met at the Tower the night of Christmas Eve. As Kon grabbed their bat had brought him into his arms, and Cassie did the same with their resident speedster, the four of them taking to the skies with three destinations in mind.

"Are we really doing this?" Cassie asked more to herself than to anyone else, screaming over the wind as they flew to Saint Elias School for Girls.

"Why wouldn't we be?" Bart screamed back, knowing that they didn't just spend the past few weeks plotting and debating the appropriate timing and level of violence for them to chicken out the night of.

It was just a major waste of time if they didn't go along with it now.

"So many reasons," Kon answered, but all of them could see the smile on his face, the one from old times.

The crazed sort of one that was mirrored on Tim's own.

"All of them irrelevant," the bat says, and none of them can really argue with that.

Even if they ended up getting coal from the jolly bastard for the next eternity after this, it was better than the future that they had seen not too long before. The one that they were trying to change.

The one that they had to make sure that they did change, even if the means that they went about doing so seemed a bit counterproductive to most.

Even to them.

It was their best bet all the same.

The four of them landed silently outside of the window of one Cissie King - Jones at the dorm of the all girls boarding school that she went to ever since her mom fully lost custody and she left the team.

More than one of the four wished that they'd had a camera ready once they saw the way that the girl spun around with a pen pissed in her hand like a blade when Tim tapped on the glass of the window.

Even more so when Cassie pulled out a spare version of the suit that the other had once worn from her book bag, knowing that the other girl kept a spare bow and set of arrows under her bed.

"No," the archer said, even though only Kon and Cassie could hear her do so.

The other two didn't need to anyways.

Bart smiled as he let his body vibrate, slipping through the wall and the glass at a speed that the former hero couldn't see as he grabbed her and pulled her to the other three, zipping back to grab the weapons as well after a stern look from their super.

Always the mom, that one.

"You said that Santa was back," Cissie said, knowing that the four of them wouldn't be in there in costume with one of her own on Christmas Eve, soon Christmas, for anything else. "No more delivering presents for nearly three months."

"I bet we could do it faster now," Cassie said, glancing at the sky as if she was actually considering it.

Though, they never would find that out… hopefully.

If all goes to plan.

"No more presents. And he is back," Tim assures, knowing that this did nothing to truly reassure the other as she was far too used to waiting for the other shoe to drop. "For now."

"For now?" Cissie parroted back.

"Wonder Boy over here brokered a deal with a magician in a trench coat," Kon answered, jabbing his thumb towards the boy at his side.

"It's a damn good deal," the third Robin says in defense.

"Do I wanna know?" The Olympic archer asked, making the four before her smile like devils as Cassie held out the uniform once more.

"Get changed and we'll tell you on the way," Cassie said.

Cissie really did think that she might be the devil right then. Too many trips down to the underworld. To hell.

Still… as Cissie looked at the costume in her friends hands and thought of the strange adventures that they'd had together… she couldn't say that she didn't miss being at their sides like this.

"Just tonight," the archer decides, taking the clothes in her hands and holding the other out to their speedster so that she could change quickly in her room.

"Just tonight," Bart agreed.

—-

The five of them flew quickly north, as north as one could go on the globe without flipping and heading south.

Cissie wouldn't deny that she had missed the feeling of the wind on her skin like this as she did, though she was thankful for the coat all the same as they touched down to snowy earth below.

As they looked upon The Glacier.

"We're never going to be able to recover from this," Cassie said as they walked through the snow, more of it falling down upon them as they did.

"Pretty sure we passed being able to recover from this the first time around," Kon reminds the other, knowing that had been an experience.

"We'll be home in less than an hour," Tim said, knowing that none of them were actually backing out, but that they all felt just how wrong this is.

But, it could always be worse, like thirty out of fifty states under a dictatorship.

"Here he comes," Bart said, seeing the sleigh first before the rest of them, the world moving much slower of him than it did for them.

"Let's do this," Kon said, his feet leaving the earth as Cassie followed him, each holding their respective members from before as Cissie knocked an arrow from the ground.

It was the arrow that reached the mythical being first, not the beings with super sped , but then again it was meant to be.

They watched as the arrow lodged itself into the hand of the jolly old man - one that was flying much slower than he usually would as he slowed down at the sight of his home, making him yelp with pain as both hands let go of his reigns on the flying reindeer so that he could pull the arrow out.

The reindeer were quick to dive down towards the earth below. Towards home.

Quick enough that Santa Claus was coming out of his seat when both the bird and the speedster were dropped upon the sleigh.

There was a blade at the end of Robin's bow staff as he swung it with a deadly sort of precision

Bart had them off of the sleigh and barreling towards though before the blood could find the, from that fact.

Kon and Cassie had the ancient man up in the sky and free falling before they could second guess themselves about it.

No one said anything when Santa Claus hit the ground, they simply grabbed the body and headed for a place that they hadn't been to in far too long.

Merry Christmas to them.
