Work Text:

Akutagawa finally finished his laundry, folding what went into drawers and slipping what needed to be hung up onto hangers. He gathered up the hangers and made his way over to the closet. Once he hung the last shirt up, his fingers brushed against the edge of something ruffled.

Pushing the other hung clothes aside, Akutagawa found a few of his more ornate blouses and even a couple dresses and petticoats hung in the back of the closet. It had been so long since he had had an appropriate occasion to don such clothing that they had gotten shoved to the back to gather dust. Shrugging, Akutagawa grabbed one of the dresses and a petticoat. It really had been quite some time, he thought. Why not indulge a little? Hopefully they still fit.

He slipped out of his turtleneck and slacks and tugged on a silky slip and a pair of ruffled bloomers hidden away in his underwear drawer, then worked his way into the petticoat and dress. Searching through his closet again, he found a corset belt and a length of black, silky ribbon. He barely struggled with the corset, the muscle memory still intact, and tied the ribbon loosely around his neck in a bow.

Stepping in front of the full-length mirror next to his closet door, Akutagawa's breath caught. The dress was white, with loose sleeves that gathered at the wrists and thick ruffles just above the hem. The corset perfectly accentuated his already slim waist, and the ribbon rested against the ruffled chest, offsetting the white beautifully. Akutagawa spun in a graceful circle, watching the ruffles swish around his ankles. He missed dressing up like this.

Suddenly, the bedroom door opened, and Akutagawa froze.

"Hey, Ryuu, what do you wanna do for din...ner," Atsushi popped his head into the room, trailing off when he took in the sight. Akutagawa's ears flushed in embarrassment, and he crossed his arms self-consciously. He opened his mouth to reply, remind Atsushi to knock, defend himself, anything, when Atsushi gave such a warm smile that Akutagawa was afraid he would melt on the spot.

"Oh wow, Ryuu!" he exclaimed, letting the door fall open and stepping closer. "That looks amazing on you! When'd you get all this?"

Akutagawa flushed further. Atsushi thought he looked... good?

"I've had it for a while," he mumbled. Atsushi came closer and stood behind him, resting his chin on Akutagawa's shoulder and smiling at him in the mirror.

"You should wear it more often," he suggested softly. "You look so pretty. Can I call you that? Pretty?"

Akutagawa swallowed, then nodded. "Yes. You may compliment me... femininely."

Atsushi grinned. "You look so pretty," he repeated, slipping his arms around Akutagawa's waist. "Like a medieval princess. Or a witch who lives in a cottage in the forest. You are so, so pretty."

Akutagawa's cheeks reddened even further, a pleased glow rather than embarrassment. "Sh-shut up," he mumbled, and Atsushi laughed.

"Why don't we go out for dinner?" he suggested, spinning Akutagawa around and taking his hands in his own. "It'd be a shame for you to get all dressed up and not do something fun. If you're okay with going out like this, of course!"

Akutagawa hesitated, then nodded. "Nowhere too crowded, please. I don't want too many stares." Atsushi smiled and pressed a kiss to his lips.

"Of course," he replied, kissing him again. And again. "My pretty, pretty boyfriend. The prettiest boyfriend in the world."

Akutagawa smiled, trying to fight it, but he couldn't help it, not when Atsushi's words made his stomach flutter in such a sweet way.

"Let's go, then."
