Chapter 1: Something Goes Wrong, Because Something Always Goes Wrong

Chapter Text

Scott had been on edge for days; the humans were up to something he just didn't know what, and honestly, that worried him a little. He shrugged it off and decided to head back to the castle with the food that he had gathered on his outing so that he could feed the fledglings and himself. Turning into a bat, he watched the surrounding area from high up in the sky to see if he could spot anything, whether it was the humans or just more food.

Owen was the first to notice when Scott had returned and bumped Shelby's shoulder to get her attention, causing her to turn towards with a questioning hum. he pointed at Scott, still in bat form, as he flew over. Shelby immediately squealed in excitement, "Scott, you're back," she exclaimed as the bat landed in front of the two other vampires before returning to his normal state of being. "I got you guys some food, here," He said, smiling as he handed over some of the raw meat he had collected to the two vampires in front of him. "Where is everyone else at the moment? I would've thought there would be more of you here?" The eldest vampire asked the two youngest as he started to walk to the chests in the corner to drop off some of the things he had in his inventory.

"A few of them went to bother the townspeople," Shelby replies as she sits down on the edge of the table facing Scott. "I think it was Pyro, Avid, and Drift. Apo and Cleo are down in the crypt doing whatever it is they do." Scott immediately stopped what he was doing and turned to face her, "And why are they bothering the townspeople when we have all noticed that they are hiding something, probably something that could cause issues?" His voice was slightly strained as he tried to mask his irritation, but he failed slightly. The two younger vampires tense up at the realisation that something could be going wrong. "Maybe we should go and make sure they're alright," Owen proposed, and started to head towards the door, with the other two following behind.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Over at town, the three vampires there were talking to Abolish, Ren, and Martyn at the gates, a decent distance back but still close enough that something could easily go wrong. They had decided not to try and cause issues as soon as they saw the three humans and instead thought trying to have a nice conversation would be a better idea, as they didn’t want to cause problems when there was a slightly too even match if it ended in a fight. The three humans at the gate had been informed by Legs to distract the vampires but keep them near while he finished up something that he said would change everything for them all. Legundo had thought he had finally found the cure and followed the steps in the books from the various crypts around the town. All he had left to do was to bottle the potion that it had made and head over to where the vampires were at the gate and throw it on them and hope that it would work.

Legundo finished putting the cap on the bottle, smiling to himself, “This is the answer to all of our problems, I just know it is,” the doctor muttered before walking out of his laboratory and over to the gate where the others were still talking to the vampires. “Hello vampires, what brings you all the way over here?” He asked, interrupting what they had been talking about. All six people at the gate flinch slightly at the sudden voice, “Oh, uh, we were just talking, you know, catching up with old friends.” Drift replies in an awkward voice, still recovering from the initial fright. The doctor nodded and smiled tightly, the smile not reaching his eyes at all. He still had the bottle in his hands, but had his hands behind his back to hide the potion in hopes that surprising them with it would work out better. He looked behind the three and saw Scott and a couple others approaching quickly and knew he had to act sooner rather than later, his gaze returned to the three at the gate as he spoke “Well, I’m sure there will be plenty of time for everyone to talk shortly,” he said calmly as he pulled the bottle from behind his back and threw it at the three vampires with enough force that it would smash and hit as many of them as possible.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Owen, Scott, and Shelby were running towards the town in hopes of getting there before something bad could happen. Scott had pulled ahead due to his being both older and having eaten more recently than the other two. They saw the four humans that were there talking to the trio, and as they got closer, they started to hear what was being said, “-vampires, what brings you all the way over here?” The voice coming from Legundo seemed to have frightened the six, as they were clearly not paying great attention to their surroundings. Drift seemed to recover fastest as her voice was the next they heard. “Oh, uh, we were just talking, you know, catching up with old friends.”

It was at this point that Scott noticed the usually tense doctor had his hands behind his back, something he never did unless he had something planned. Scott muttered a swear and somehow sped up more to try and get to the trio near the humans before something happened. “Well, I’m sure there will be plenty of time for everyone to talk shortly.” Those were the words that confirmed that something was seriously wrong, and a few short milliseconds later, not even long enough for the realisation to truly sink in, the doctor threw a bottle at the vampires. Scott lunged at the three that the bottle was heading towards.
