A memory from Mike’s past bubbles up from the confines of the back of his mind, where he had shoved it away in an attempt to hide his secret from any prying eyes. It is a memory draped in shame, guilt, and self-hatred. It used to cling to him like weighted chains wrapped around his chest and limbs, leeching every ounce of his strength from his body and mind to keep it repressed. He had been chained to a moment he tried to erase from existence, tried with every fiber of his being to rewrite into something he could understand and allow to exist. But this memory hung around him like a towering shadow, casting him into a darkness he had to claw his way out of. A darkness that still sticks to him like wet clothes after a rainstorm, not quite chains anymore but instead a soft chill that has settled deep in his bones. A memory with a secret that sits heavy on his tongue. A secret never before spoken that is now sitting loosely against his lips, threatening to take flight at any moment.
