Work Text:
"I'm suspicious of the Laura Popham account" Jon said halfheartedly over coffee after finishing up his recording of that particular statement. Martin gave him a sympathetic smile.
"You're suspicious of a lot of the accounts"
"I don't mean in the skeptical sense" Jon clarified. "I don't particularly believe the whole thing due to the various holes in her story, but I mean I'm suspicious of Laura herself"
"This is the caving statement you're talking about, right?" Martin asked as he took a hearty sip of his own coffee. He'd kept some distance from that case due to his own claustrophobia, so he wanted to make sure they were on the same page.
"Yes" Jon confirmed. "Laura and her sister allegedly went caving, only the sister didn't return"
"Right, right, right"
"I believe Laura may have been withholding some information from her statement" Jon explained. "And I don't just mean her neglecting to mention her somewhat incriminating camera recording"
"That thing gave me the creeps" Martin shivered. Jon rolled his eyes.
"Earlier on in her statement, she's very insistent on the fact that she never forced her sister to come along with, and she said a few things that imply she did not like her sister as much as she claimed"
"Are you suggesting foul play?"
"Not necessarily" Jon shook his head. "But there's more to the case that she neglected to mention. I'm nearly positive"
"Interesting..." Martin nodded. "Well, Sasha was pretty interested in that one. Maybe there's more she can uncover"
"Perhaps..."
"More coffee?" Martin offered. He swore that he saw Jon crack a smile.
"That would be nice"
