Barely Hidden Secrets

Summary:

They're not keeping it a secret for any reason, just because it's fun. And well, everyone's oblivious

Notes:

This is my first A) High School Musical fic (it was a childhood obsession) and B) rather obviously my first Chad/Ryan fic. Be gentle with me lol
I first wrote this on paper, not something I normally do but strangely fun, so this did have a light round of editing. I am however midly dyslexic so there's probably errors ahead, you've been warned.
Also I'm posting it a tad late, I was originally gonna post this on Christmas, and then boxing day and then forgot
Enjoy!! :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

There was no real reason for them to keep their relationship secret. Well, reactions might not be the best, but the school and it's students had survived enough change. What was a theatre kid and basketball player together?

You know, excluding the fact they're both dudes.

There wasn't a reason no to tell anyone at all. Chad didn't care who knew he swung both ways, and Ryan wasn't exactly secretive about liking other dudes. It was just sort of fun to see how much they could get away with. It was almost like a game.

They both knew that if one of them was a girl, or if Chad wasn't so Chad plenty of people be assuming they were together. The rumour would be so large it'd be unstoppable. It just didn't seem to exist, regardless of what they did.

They just didn't give off 'we're a couple' apparently. Even when chad had Ryan caged in against his locker. No, even though they were being more than friendly Sharpay had assumed Chad was being an ass.

It was fun to see ho far they could push it. Funnier to see what people came up with to excuse away their clearly romantic actions, blindsided by their sure beliefs in them as people. Hadn't they learnt from stereotyping their peers?

Ryan had leant against Chad's shoulder, and let himself drift, right where anyone could see. Plenty had, and yet no one had started a rumour about it! They hadn't even gotten questioned. Absolutely no one had thought to ask, or start rumours! No one! Really, it was ridiculous.

They were starting to think someone could walk in on them making out, and they still wouldn't catch on. That was how oblivious people seemed to be.

"Someone's bound to catch us," Chad breathed out as Ryan cornered him in the changing rooms after their game of baseball.

"Let them," Ryan said, tugging Chad in. Ryan's lips met his roughly, and Chad hummed against him. He got tugged closer, and his hands finally moved to settle on Ryan's hips.

Eventually Ryan had to pull back to breathe, though he didn't leave much space between them.

"Even if we are caught, they've been blind to everything else," Ryan said, the words ghosting Chad's lips. He hummed, and just barely nodded.

"Think we're just being friendly," Chad whispered back, laughing slightly. Ryan huffed slightly

"You better not do this with all your friends," he said, pulling back further though his hands stayed on Chad's collar. Chad shook his head, laughing a little again.

"Just you, babe," he promised. Ryan wrinkled his nose at the pet-name but smiled.

"Good," Ryan said, finally pulling him back in. They stayed in the changing rooms for longer than was strictly necessary.

When they did finally emerge, they were breathless, with red, swollen lips, and mused hair under their hats. It was painfully obvious what they had been up too.

Not to mention, just in case no one thought to put two and two together, they'd swapped clothes. Entirely exchanged their outfits for the day.

And still,no one put it together.

Ryan and Chad were almost certain they could make out in front of everyone and still keep their relationship secret.

Notes:

I hope you liked it, if you did maybe consider leaving a comment or a kudos. All interactions are greatly appreciated. Also this was written like a month ago. If I get any other ideas I may revisit this ship, for little baby me who would have loved Chad and Ryan together
