Please Stay

Summary:

You have no energy to do anything today, not even getting out of bed. Thankfully they understood and let you take a day off.

A certain jester wants to see you again.

Notes:

I have not played The Freak Circus (yet) and I still have fallen in love with Pierrot.
Trigger warning for mentions of suicidal thoughts.

Work Text:

It’s worse today.

You have no energy to do anything today, not even getting out of bed. You feel hungry for food, but that’s something you can ignore for now. But the headaches, you cannot.

You searched through your nightstand for pain killers while also reaching for your phone and texting your boss the reason you won’t be there today. You find the medicine and take some, drinking some water to swallow it.

Luckily, your boss said it’s a slow day today, they can handle the cafe themselves. They’ll give you the day off.

You thanked them and shut off your phone. Snuggling back into the comfort of your pillows and blanket and waiting for sleep to overtake you.

---------------

Curse being a light sleeper.

You checked your phone again. You managed to sleep again for a few more hours. You still lack the motivation to do anything.

Until you hear something breaking outside your room, and a certain voice cursing, presumably at the mess he made. You get confused for a few seconds in your tired state until it clicks.

You know exactly who it is. You’re used to his antics now and you’ll make him clean it up and pay for a new one later. You don’t move from your bed as you hear footsteps getting closer and you hear your door open slowly. You were sleeping while facing away from the door so the intruder must’ve assumed you’re currently sleeping.

Silence between you two for a minute. The intruder watches you “sleep” until you speak to break the silence.

“Pierrot, I know it’s you.”

“Oh…am I really that obvious?” Pierrot questions.

“This isn’t the first time you have broken in. I thought I gave you my spare keys, didn’t I? I’m tired of paying for new windows.” You sigh.

“You did, my dear. But…I lost them. I know Harlequin stole them! I will hunt him down and torture him until I get those keys back!”

“Whatever…just make sure he doesn’t break in too. And you pay for the new windows this time.”

“Of course, my dear!” Pierrot nods. He walks over to your side and kneels in front of you. He looks worried.

“They told me you called in. Are you sick? Should I get you something?”

You’ll be honest, it feels sort of nice to have someone worry about you. You do have to comfort him before he becomes a little too overbearing.

“Physically, I’m fine. Mentally, not really.”

“Mentally?” He questions.

“I just…don’t have the energy to do anything. I want to stay in bed and sleep all day. I’m too tired to deal with those thoughts again. I just want to hide from them.”

“Those thoughts?” He questions again.

“Thoughts of…suicide…death…cutting my wrists open and bleeding out. I haven’t done it in a few years, but I don’t want to go back to it. I just avoid the urges by sleeping.” You confessed. The cuts on your arms have since healed, but the marks will always remain.

Pierrot doesn’t say anything, though you can tell he looks sad. Sad for you.

“I appreciate you checking in. You can go back now, I’m sure they noticed you’re missing too.” You tell him to go back to the circus and change position, facing away from him, but you don’t hear him move. You do hear the bells jingling, you assume he’s taking off the jester hat.

Pierrot goes to the other side of your bed and lays on top of your blanket. He pulls you closer to him gently and wraps his arms around you and kisses your forehead.

“The circus is closed because of the slow day, I can be here with you all day. Don’t fall into those thoughts again, my dear. I will always be here with you.”

“Do you promise that?” You ask him.

“As long as I am alive, I will keep that promise.” Pierrot kisses you again on the lips. You feel warmth spreading throughout your body. Not the type from hot summers, the type from being loved and cared for.

“Please stay…” You mumble before drifting off back to sleep from the warmth.

“As long as you want me to, dear.” You hear him whisper.

---------------

You wake up again, the sunlight coming through your curtains proves that it’s still daylight. Checking your phone again, it’s afternoon now. Turning your head, Pierrot is sleeping peacefully next to you. He looks so adorable.

Then you hear your stomach growling. Seems like you can’t ignore it anymore.

You try to move to get up so you could go get something to eat, but Pierrot’s arms around you tighten up, you hear him waking up. Still sleepy, he speaks to you.

“My dear…why are you trying to leave?”

“I’m just hungry, Pierrot. I skipped breakfast, so I haven’t eaten anything yet.” You answer him. Then suddenly, he sits up. His tiredness is completely gone in seconds.

“Ah! No need to leave my dear! I can go get you food!” He offers happily, already getting up and finding his jester hat.

“I’d really prefer you rather not-” He interrupts you.

“Please! I insist, my dear! I can go and get you your favorites. Wouldn’t that make you happy?”

“It does…” It does make you a bit happy. You know he won’t listen to you telling him not to, so you let him.

Before he leaves, he tells you: “Oh! And if Harlequin happens to come here while I’m gone, do not hesitate to kill him!”

“I doubt he’ll come here during the day…but I’ll keep that in mind.”

---------------

“My dear! I got the keys back!”

You feel okay enough to return to work the next day. The moment you enter the circus, Pierrot immediately runs up to you, dangling the keys in front of you. You find the energy to smile and thank him for getting it back, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Pierrot is so happy! The love of his life is smiling and he got his keys back. He is determined to not lose it again and keep you happy at all times.

Out of curiosity, you look behind him. Harlequin is sitting not too far from you two, with blood on his face and holding a cloth to his nose covered in what you think it to be blood too. Glaring at you two and the doctor with him trying to treat his injuries.

Did Pierrot break his nose?

Ah…that man was really determined to get his keys back.
