Day 14: Not Actually Unrequited Love.

Summary:

After the war, Naruto and Sasuke find a quiet moment away from the village. By a small campfire, old wounds and unspoken feelings finally surface—ending in a confession that proves they were never chasing each other for nothing.

Work Text:

Naruto was running away from Iruka yet again, he did not want to study after a huge war and after having just lost one of his arms. He was jumping around the village while his teacher followed him, screaming his name, all he could do was laugh, it brought some pleasant and happy memories back to his mind. He managed to lose Iruka half an hour after running and jumping, hiding in the old Uchiha's side of the village.

To his surprise, Sasuke was there, that side of the village had been completely closed after he left, since there were no more Uchiha's in the village. He left a big bouquet of flowers in the front of the entrance, while praying.

Naruto walked next to him and prayed as well, catching Sasuke off guard. Then, the two of them started walking around the village, talking, the blond was informing the other of all the things that had happened since he left, basically gossiping.

They went outside of the village for a while, going around the trees while still talking, they didn't even notice it was starting to get pretty dark, so they ended up in a little lake where Naruto used to fish when he was a kid. Since the blond did not want to go back to study, and the black-haired was bored and didn't have anything to do, they stayed there, they deserved a break after all they had done.

Naruto gathered a bunch of sticks and leaves around and placed them together inside a circle of rocks, then grabbed two logs and placed them facing each other. Sasuke did a fire jutsu and lit the little campfire, and sat down on one of the logs.

The blond seemed a little off, not really looking the black-haired in the eyes while talking, and also distancing himself, not only physically, but also emotionally, tho the blue-eyed boy himself didn't realize it.

The Uchiha got up and sat next to the blond, leaning on top of his shoulder and tightly grabbing his hand, looking up to his face.

He was prepared for rejection right there, Naruto had been in love with Sakura for years, ever since they were in the academy. He knew he had no chance, especially after what he had done. He left the village. He hurt Sakura. He almost killed him. He almost poisoned Sakura. He wanted to destroy the leaf. They fought to death for fuck's sake.

Yet, inside. Inside of him, he still wanted to believe he had a chance. Why else would Naruto chase him around for two whole years? That was his excuse, and so. He said those words.

-I like you, a lot

It shocked Naruto, he wasn't expecting that, he was waiting for a question. "Why are you so nervous, usuratonkachi?". That's what he was waiting for, he couldn't control his blush and nervousness anymore. Sasuke closed his eyes, expecting it. He got closer to him thinking it would be the last time he would let him be near him, and then. His reply surprised him, he did not prepare for this.

-Sasuke, I love you

Suddenly, his vision became blurry, and the black-haired boy hid his face in the blond's chest while tearing up and mumbling. So it was mutual, huh? They stayed close to each other while pathetically crying for a while.
