Hiccup was running around the village, it was raining a lot, way too much for the time of the year they were in, he thought. He managed to reach his house but the door was stuck and he couldn't open it, he called for his dad but nobody answered, that's when he remembered that almost all of the village had gone fishing as much as they could before the lake froze, hunting before the bears started hibernating, and overall just let their strength and stress out on anything that wasn't a dragon. Now that Hiccup had proved to them they could all be friends and get along.
Toothless grabbed him by his clothes and dragged him to a cave in the forest, where he was able to shelter himself from the rain, he was freezing, the cold autumn air before winter started, and being soakingwet didn't really help him. He got closer to his dragon and snuggled up, the reptile warmed the floor with his plasma and both got comfortable. Suddenly, they heard footsteps, and an unmistakable silhouette made its way to the very same cave, Astrid and Stormfly.
She jumped across the few logs Toothless put on the entrance, alongside Stormfly, who graciously avoided them as well, not touching either of them. Hiccup yelped at the sudden movements and made Astrid realize she wasn't alone inside the cave.
-Hiccup? What are you doing here? —She asked Stormfly to warm the floor and both sat next to the other two
-Could ask you the same thing —He looked at her, straight in the eyes— I was training Toothless' running, his stamina overall, you?
-I was training with Stormfly's spikes, avoiding them —She showed her axe— Some got stuck in the handle
-Wow, really? Did any of them get you? —He asked, surprised
-Of course not, I practiced with rocks before I tried it with her spikes —She smiled, looking at him— Got too caught up in the training I forgot about my surroundings, when I realized, it was already raining
-Same here, got too excited when he ran ten more minutes without looking tired —Toothless made a smug expression
They kept talking until the heavy rain stopped, it was much calmer a couple of hours after. So they went out while it was still raining and went back to the village, but the adults weren't back yet, so they stayed under a little makeshift emergency umbrella, their dragons' wings. Since it was pretty cold, and they weren't properly warmed by their clothes, they shyly sat back to back.
After a couple of minutes of waiting for it to stop, both were feeling much more sleepy than before, Hiccup was falling asleep and waking up second by second, while Astrid tried keeping her eyes open while failing miserably. They ended up falling asleep against each other.
Snotlout and Tuffnut were outside as well, one got kicked out for being annoying, surprisingly leaving his sister behind, and the other just said why the fuck not and went outside while raining to taunt and challenge Thor cuz he was an even bigger idiot. Until they both saw Hiccup and Astrid sleeping soundly on top of each other while their dragons' wings protected them from the rain, turned around, laughing out loud like maniacs, and went to their houses again.
