Work Text:
Katsuki should have suspected he was getting sick when his throat began to feel super dry during lunch. But he had just assumed it was the weather’s fault and continued with his day.
He should have expected he was getting sick when he noticed he was sweating much more than usual during training. When he noticed he was out of breath, which wasn’t usual at all.
It wasn’t until after school, while walking home, that he realized he may have caught whatever Denki had. Even just walking that little distance from the school to the apartment made him feel exhausted, and he was much too hot for it to be the weather.
Despite his realization, he still decided to sit at his desk and do his homework. It was hard to focus, due to a forming headache, but he pushed through it.
But as time went on, it got harder and harder to focus. Chills were racking his body, despite how hot he felt. His throat was killing him, each cough causing more pain. He sniffled every time he tried to breathe through his nose. Everywhere hurt, and he felt weak.
Overall, he felt like ****.
He ended up lying on his desk, taking in the cool surface. A few minutes of that wouldn’t hurt, right?
But of course, he ended up falling asleep. He didn’t wake up until he heard his dad calling him for dinner. He checked his alarm clock and realized he’d been asleep for about three hours.
Katsuki yawned and headed out to the kitchen. He sat in his usual seat at the table. Instead of engaging in any conversation, like he usually did, he stared off into space, not really focused on anything.
Normally, Katsuki would have eaten every bit of his dinner. But today, he could barely get himself to eat half of what he’d gotten. He mostly just picked at it, occasionally taking minuscule bites.
“Katsuki, are you feeling okay?” His dad asked after giving him many concerned glances.
Katsuki hummed in reply before speaking. “Just not very hungry.” Technically true, but it left out all the body aches, probable fever, coughing, and the overall fatigue he felt.
Aizawa knew his son wasn’t telling the full truth. If the kid felt even half as bad as he looked, he could guess Katsuki was feeling miserable. But he let the answer slide for now; he wasn’t going to force Katsuki to tell him anything. He guessed the boy would only last so long before he was too sick to do anything.
It didn’t go unnoticed that Katsuki decided to go to bed earlier than normal. And Shota could feel the heat rolling off his son when he gave him the usual good-night hug. He let Katsuki go to bed, knowing sleep was what was best for him.
Sleep, apparently, couldn’t last for the whole night. Shota had woken up to the sound of rushed footsteps and some light seeping through the crack under the door. He got up, and when he opened the door, he could hear retching from the bathroom.
Shota wasn’t surprised to find Katsuki in front of the toilet. He calmly sat next to his son and gently rubbed his back until he was finished vomiting. Once Katsuki was done, he leaned against his dad’s shoulder, too drained to keep himself even sitting up.
Shota gently stroked through his son’s hair, momentarily stopping on his forehead. The kid was definitely running a fever, a high one, Shota guessed.
“Come on. How about we set you up on the couch?” Aizawa spoke quietly.
“Okay…” Katsuki’s voice was rough, and it sounded like it hurt to even use it.
Shota helped Katsuki stand and brush his teeth before guiding him out to the couch. He would have just brought him back to bed, but it would be much easier to keep an eye on him if they were both in the living room.
Once Katsuki was lying on the couch, Shota covered him with a soft blanket he often used when Eri was sick. It was a large, fluffy gray blanket that felt as soft as clouds. His son visibly relaxed under the fluff and was soon asleep.
Aizawa got to work, grabbing things that were needed for taking care of a sick person. He first put a small trash can by the couch, just in case Katsuki needed to be sick again. Then he grabbed a thermometer and medicine from the bathroom. Then, a rag and an ice pack from the kitchen, as he could already tell Katsuki’s fever was pretty high.
The thermometer only confirmed this, showing a temperature of 40°C. Aizawa immediately put the rag and icepack against his son’s head, knowing it’d be best to bring his temperature down.
(A/N: I totally have to keep searching up temperatures in Celsius, because well, I live in the U.S., and we use Fahrenheit… Google has been very helpful, though.
Eventually, Aizawa got to a point where he could sleep himself. He settled on the armchair, reclining it back before he closed his eyes.
The next time he woke up, it was about 6 a.m. This wasn’t an abnormal time for him to get up, so he began getting ready for the day. He got dressed, but in sweatpants and a gray shirt instead of his hero costume. He wasn’t going to go to school and leave Katsuki without care; what kind of parent would that make him?
He called Nezu, letting him know he wouldn’t be teaching and giving him ample time to find a substitute. Then he checked Katsuki’s temperature again and sighed in relief. He was still feverish, but it had gone down to 38.2°C. Aizawa put the ice pack back in the freezer.
7:00 is when Eri would get up to get ready for school. He helped her get ready and assured her Katsuki would be fine; he just had the flu. He promised her there would be no hospital trips this time.
Shota ended up having Nemuri take Eri to school because he didn’t want to leave Katsuki alone and knew Hizashi was still taking care of his own sick kid.
Aizawa wasn’t surprised when Eri came down with the flu a couple of days later. She had seemed okay in the morning, but had to be checked out of school after her teacher realized she was running a fever.
So now Aizawa had two sick kids to take care of. He made sure both of them had anything they needed in order to get better.
So the week was spent with a lot of miserable sickness, Disney movies, and sleep.
Katsuki was doing a lot better, his fever having finally broken. Eri’s temperature had gone down to a low-grade fever. Both of them were regaining their appetites, and Katsuki was able to walk around a little bit more.
So, of course, it was perfect timing for Aizawa to catch this flu himself. He recognized it the second his throat went insanely dry. By the end of that day, his throat hurt, he had a cough, he couldn’t breathe through his nose, and everything hurt.
Katsuki caught on pretty quickly to his dad’s misery and practically forced him into resting. So here Aizawa was, lying on the armchair and watching a Disney movie with Eri.
Katsuki made all of them some soup for dinner, which they ate in the living room. Then they all watched a movie together, snuggled in the fluffy gray blanket on the couch.
