Work Text:

The ironic thing about all this was that Judy never imagined herself as an undercover cop. When she would daydream as a little girl about her dream job, she always saw herself in a police uniform. That’s why she was elated to make her own uniform for her elementary school’s drama club performance.
However, it turned out that saving the city did not always require a uniform. She and Nick took down Bellwether, as civilians, in their own clothing.
Nick and Judy realized that solving crimes while out of uniform was more productive. So far, they’d been goofy parents with a child, a young married couple looking to purchase a property, and a couple on the brink of divorce. Judy always took it one step further by making sure they had different outfits to play these parts. She and Nick put on all different types of clothing. These shenanigans left Bogo with no choice, but to make them official undercover cops.
This made Nick and Judy pretty damn happy. It combined Judy’s love for theatrics and being an officer, who was actually trying to make the world a better place. While Nick was just good at it. He was certainly more of a natural than her, though. Living a life hustling on the streets, from the age of 12, forces one to take on different identities. After all, you can't really be yourself if you're trying to successfully con someone.
It’s not to say that things went perfectly all the time during their own attempts at going undercover. There were quite a few bumps in the road. Literally.
Despite this, they were able to prove to Bogo that they could be a functioning partner duo who were worthy enough to be promoted to the official undercover subdivision of the ZPD, as rookies, which certainly was exciting.
Judy tapped her foot nervously in front of Bogo’s office.
“Carrots, I’m gonna have to start calling you Thumper, if you don’t stop tapping your foot.”
She stopped tapping and shot Nick a look. “I’m nervous.”
Nick shrugged. “Why? We’ve had meetings with Bogo a hundred times.”
“Yeah, but now this is our first day as official undercover cops.”
Nick put his paw on her shoulder. “We’re naturals at this, Fluff. Chief Beef wouldn’t have given us this position if he thought we’d fail. This isn’t like the missing mammal case.”
Judy couldn’t help but smile. Nick would never forget how Bogo set her up to fail when she was looking for Emmit Otterton.
The door suddenly opened and there was Bogo, looking annoyed and out of it. Judy guessed that he probably had his weekly MicroPaw Teams meeting with some of the other higher ups in the ZPD. Bogo hated those meetings.
“Hopps, Wilde.” He greeted them in a gruff voice and gestured for them to enter his office.
“Well, good morning, sunshine. It looks like you woke up on the right side of the bed,” Nick quipped with a smug look.
“Watch it, fox.”
Nick waggled his eyebrows at Judy and she shook her head in disapproval. He never failed to rile the chief up during a morning debrief.
The two took a seat. Judy was eager as ever to hear what exactly they’d be doing while Nick looked calm, cool, and collected. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever not be envious of his way to take things as they came. She needed to plan and prepare for anything that could possibly be thrown at her.
“So, as you both know, you’ve both been officially promoted to the Undercover Division of the ZPD and as such, you will be beginning the position today.”
Judy perked up, “Yes, sir, this is an honor and I’m very excited to–”
Bogo put his hoof up to stop her in her tracks. “I know the spiel, rabbit. Let me just get to your assignment.”
Nick held back a chuckle at their exchange.
“There’s a substance reappearing in Zootopia that’s becoming popular with young mammals, specifically club goers,” Bogo said with a look of disdain.
“Well, I see you weren’t the clubbing type in your youth, Chief Bogo.”
Bogo glared at Nick before continuing, “It’s called Taildrift. Perhaps, you’re aware of it, Wilde.”
“Oooh, Taildrift. It’s been a while since I’ve heard of that one. The youngins are bringing that back?”
“Apparently so,” Bogo replied displeased.
Judy never came across Taildrift, but she made it her business to know any illegal substances that the ZPD was responsible for monitoring. Based on her extensive research, she knew what it was. “Sir, the effects of Taildrift include hallucinations, distorted perception of time, lack of inhibitions, and elevated heart rate and pressure, right?”
“Well, someone did her homework.” Nick joked, but Judy could tell he was proud of her and it gave her butterflies.
“Yes, that’s correct, Hopps. And your job is to try to find one of the culprits who is selling it. The hotspot we’ve tracked down is Neon Howl.”
Nick shook his head and covered his face with one of his paws. “Oh God, not Neon Howl.”
“The place where early 20 somethings go to dance and listen to EDM?” Judy asked.
“Yes, apparently they like to enjoy the effects of Taildrift while dancing,” Bogo said with contempt.
“Well, who are we looking for at Neon Howl then?” She inquired.
Bogo opened up a manila folder with a picture of a suspect. It was a picture of a Caracal, with a pissed off expression. He had a pierced brow and a scar on his left cheek.
Nick pushed the folder closer to him. “He seems like a barrel of laughs.”
“Our sources tell us he goes by the name Eren; he has regular customers, but mostly tries to attract new ones who are dumb enough to pay exorbitant prices for it and want to try something new. Taildrift is dangerous. I’m sure Wilde can attest to that.” Bogo gave Nick a pointed look.
“Why are you looking at me as if I was doing Taildrift back in the day?”
“Never said you did it. I’m just sure you’ve seen the effects.” Bogo looked serious as ever. He did know more about his past than Nick liked.
Judy looked between them and tried to steer the conversation in a different direction, “So, for the undercover mission, we’ll have to pretend like we’re interested in trying Taildrift?”
“Yes, but you’re gonna have to play the part. You’ll look like you’re a couple who would be interested in trying it. He’s got to come to you,” Bogo emphasized.
Judy nodded. “Got it.”
“In the past, you two did a lot of improvising. This time the ZPD is giving you an actual budget to purchase some clothes for the job.” Bogo was referring to the silly outfits that Judy picked up for them at thrift shops without ZPD approval. Their boss started to just let them roll with it because they were producing results, but it wasn’t exactly ZPD sanctioned.
“This is so exciting!” Judy clasped her paws together.
“Don’t get too excited. It’s not that much,” Bogo warned.
“It’s better than having nothing! So, basically, Nick and I will have to look like club goers?”
Bogo nodded. He didn’t look excited.
“Give me literally any of the other disguises we used. I hate the club. So loud. Too much unnecessary movement,” Nick groaned.
“You’re not supposed to always enjoy work, fox.” Bogo said and moved the folder back to the center of the desk.
“I mean that checks out. You’re too old for the club,” Judy teased.
“Excuse you, but plenty of thirty something year old guys go to the club,” Nick retorted. He then grumbled, “Granted many of them are creeps just out there to get way younger girls.”
“Enough, Hopps and Wilde. Today you complete your regular patrol and tomorrow night you report to Neon Howl for the undercover job. You have to be a believable couple who enjoy clubs and would be interested in Taildrift,” Bogo ordered.
Nick and Judy looked at him and then at each other. They held back a laugh at the absurdity of the assignment.
They were told they could spend up to $100 on clothes for this specific job. After it was done, they’d turn in their receipts for reimbursement. It was more than one would expect, but also less than two people would need for good outfits. Nick and Judy were going to need to do this cheap.
At the end of their shift, the two met in front of the precinct. Judy was scrolling through Pawstagram on her phone for outfit ideas. “All right, Slick. We’re gonna have to hit the store.”
“I’m scared of what you have in mind for me.”
Judy bit her lip, embarrassed to admit what she was about to say. “Listen, I’ve actually never been to a club before.” She winced immediately after saying it.
“Well, well, well, the country rabbit girl, who grew up on a carrot farm, never went to the club! Color me shocked!” Nick put his paw over his chest in an over dramatic way.
“Har har. Some bunnies back home did actually go to the club.”
“Does Bunnyburrow even have a club?”
“No, but in a nearby town there’s a pseudo club that some bunnies go to.”
“I’m sure goody two shoes Judith Hopps did not, though. Am I right?” Nick teased.
“You know, you’re not helping your case. I may just have to get you an over the top club outfit,” Judy warned.
Nick opened and then closed his mouth. Judy knew that’d get him to shut up.
“So, according to Pawstagram, I think the best place for us to get the clothes for a cheap price would be Furever 21?” She suggested while pulling up her phone to look up the location.
“I’m actually gonna have to leave this one to you, Carrots. I only went to clubs for hustles and I hated every second that I was there. I typically wore just a button down shirt.”
Judy raised a brow. “They let you in the club with your Pawaiian shirts?”
“I wore plain ones, but I’m sure they would have!” Nick insisted.
“Oh yeah, sure, they would have.”
Nick narrowed his eyes. “Let’s just go to Furever 21 then.”
Furever 21 wasn’t a shop Judy regularly went to. Their clothing was fast fashion. The inventory changed as quickly as the trends did. However, they carried clothing for smaller mammals. Although foxes were larger than bunnies, they were still on a smaller scale size-wise.
“I can’t believe I’m here right now.” Nick looked around at the clothes with a bewildered expression.
“Maybe you’ll start a trend for foxes in a mid-life crisis who want to dress hip.”
“I’m not middle aged, Carrots.”
“You’ve got the spirit of a middle aged mammal.” Judy looked him up and down with a coy smile. The truth is she enjoyed teasing him just as much as he teased her. It helped taper the uncertainty that flowed between them. They were friends, yes, but Judy always felt they were one step away from crossing that line.
“Says the 25 year old who enjoys crocheting, reading about plants, and who never went clubbing.” Nick gave her a defiant smile in return.
“Well, at least, I’m the one who knows what’s in style right now for us to wear.”
Nick shrugged with a sly look. “At least, I’ve been to the club.”
Judy shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Let’s just start looking for some clothes.”
She wandered off with Nick trailing not too far behind her into the women’s section. Nick was not paying attention to any of the clothes around him. She saw him playing a game on his phone from the corner of her eye.
Judy looked through the racks of clothes. Many of them were too risqué for her taste, even though they were supposed to be going to a club. The mini sequin skirts, bralettes, see through mesh tops, were all stunning, but she needed to appear comfortable and confident. She wasn’t sure if she could do that in any of those. Her rather conservative upbringing stunted her comfortability level with certain outfits. Judy hoped that would change in the future.
“Ugh. I can’t find anything I like,” she whined.
Nick looked up from his phone. “We’re not supposed to like these outfits. They’re for the job. We’re playing parts. I thought you said you were in the drama club at school.”
“I was, but this is different.”
“How is this different from any of our other jobs that we literally decided to do undercover?”
Judy looked down at her feet, a little shy and embarrassed. “I don’t know…I guess I just want to wear something that I’d like for my first time at a club.”
“Ah, so the little country rabbit is interested in the big city club.” Nick said in a playful tone. He slipped his phone into his pocket.
“Maybe,” she admitted.
Nick gestured to all the clothing surrounding them. They were at Furever 21’s flagship location in Zootopia, so it wasn’t like they were lacking any merchandise. “There has to be something here that you want to actually wear and fits the role you’re supposed to be playing.”
“I guess.” Judy continued to browse through the racks before something caught her eye. She pulled out a black semi-sheer tube top with sequins. It was only slightly see through in the midriff area, but still looked like something a typical club goer would wear, and it was conveniently her size.
Nick caught her looking at it. “That looks nice.” His voice was genuine this time, so she knew he must have actually liked it.
Judy turned to the nearby bottoms section and looked around to find matching shorts or a skirt.
“So, Ms. Hopps, are we looking for the matching piece for this outfit?” Nick asked.
“Why yes, we are Mr. Wilde. I’m thinking I should get something that also sparkles.”
“Perfect to catch the eye of the mammal we’re seeking out, who seems to have such a lovely disposition.” Nick jested.
Judy snorted. “Remember not to comment on his mean mug when we meet him.”
“It’ll be kind of hard not to if he looks the way he does in the picture.”
“I wouldn’t anger him given the scar on his cheek,” Judy whispered while she continued to browse.
“Eh, I can take him.”
Right as Judy was about to answer him, she came across a pair of sparkly black shorts. “Aha! I think these are the ones.” She held them up, so she could inspect them, but as soon as she saw the tag, disappointment washed over her face.
“What’s wrong?”
Judy’s ears drooped. “They’re not my size.”
“I’ll handle this.” Nick motioned for her to follow him.
“If you’re gonna ask if they have it in another size. I’m perfectly capable of doing that myself, you know.”
“Yeah, but you’re just gonna ask in a boring way that won’t inspire an underpaid retail worker to go through the effort to find it,” Nick explained.
Judy rolled her eyes. “It’s not boring. I’d just be asking how any other mammal would.”
“Asking like any other mammal won’t get you any results. Let me work my magic. Watch and learn.” Nick smirked. His eyes were set on an antelope girl who was folding stacks of bootcut jeans. He called out “Excuse me, miss?”
The sales associate turned to face Nick and Judy with the most disinterested expression. “Yes? How may I help you?” She asked in a monotone tone as if she just read it from a manual.
“Hi. I know you’re busy folding all those jeans which I’m sure none of the customers ever put back nicely.” Nick gestured to the large stack.
She raised an eyebrow waiting for him to continue.
Judy looked between them waiting to see Nick’s so-called magic.
“Well, you see, tomorrow is my girlfriend’s birthday and I’m taking her to this popular club. I want her to have the exact outfit she was thinking of.” Nick gestured to Judy next to him who was holding the sequin top and the shorts that weren’t her size.
The word girlfriend made her stomach do a nervous flip. They’d pretended to be a couple countless times, but the more they pretended, the more she wished it was real. Judy took a hesitant step forward. She gave a nervous laugh, “Yeah, I want my Pawstagram pictures to look really good.”
Nick put his arm around her shoulders. “Anything for my girl on her birthday.” He shot her a wink.
His arm around her and his side pressed against hers made her cheeks flush.
Whatever he said did seem to begin to endear the antelope girl. “Birthday Pawstagram photos are so important. I wish I had a boyfriend who understood that.”
“A lot of guys really need to prioritize what their girlfriend wants.”
The sales girl shook her head.
“I guess I’m lucky then,” Judy said with a smile.
“Ugh, so lucky. So, what is it that you need help with?”
“These shorts I found that match perfectly with the top aren’t in my size,” Judy lamented.
“I can look in the system to see if we have them downstairs.” She took out a device from her pocket that had a scanning mechanism. She then leaned over to whisper to Nick and Judy, “We have lots of extras of the merchandise in the basement. It can be annoying to get it, but I’ll do it for you.”
“Oh, really? That’s so kind of you!” Judy exclaimed.
She shrugged. “It’s okay. I love seeing supportive couples. All boyfriends should help their girlfriends get the perfect outfits.”
“I try to be the best one I can.” Nick took Judy’s paw and squeezed it.
Judy blushed when he took her paw.
“Awwww.” The sales girl was smitten with Nick and Judy’s supposed relationship. She gladly took the shorts from Judy and scanned their tag. She held the screen up to Judy and asked, “Do you see your size here?”
Judy looked at the screen and saw her size. “Yes I do!”
“All right, just let me know which one is your exact size and I’ll go get it for you!”
“Told ya.” Nick whispered in her ear.
As her outfit perfectly fell into place, her excitement grew.
The sales associate, who they later found out was named Jaclyn, willingly went downstairs to look through merchandise to get Judy the shorts in her size. She also helped Judy get matching sheer black tights to complete the look.
Nick already had some vintage jeans that they had thrifted for another “undercover” job, but Judy explained that he needed to wear something on trend. It couldn’t be a basic button down shirt, he’d look out of place, nor could it be a boring t-shirt. They ultimately decided on a sleeveless t-shirt that said “Protect the dolls.” It was stylish and supported a good cause.
Judy eyed herself in the mirror of her tiny apartment. Unfortunately, she lacked a full length mirror, but she assumed that she had to look fine on the bottom half of her body. She leaned forward to check her make up which was something she rarely did. She didn’t have time for it and didn’t feel it was necessary, but tonight she was playing a role, and a club going girl would wear make up. Zootube tutorials helped her attempt to do winged eyeliner and green glitter eye shadow with mascara. She opted for green because tonight the club was going to be flashing neon green. They rotated their colors depending on the day.
Judy looked different and she relished in this opportunity to be someone else for a short while. It was exciting to do something she never did before, all in the name of making her city a better place.
Her phone buzzed and she looked down to see a text from Nick.
5 mins away.
He had gone to the impound lot to pick up the car. Having an undercover car helped them remain incognito. Nick was tired of always being the passenger, so she told him he could drive this time.
Her older sister, Amy, gifted her a small sparkly black bag the last time she saw her. She said she thought it’d be stylish for her to wear for a night out in Zootopia. Judy explained that she didn’t really have any formal nights out, but she told her to keep it anyway. It was pretty and it finally came in handy.
Now with the bag the look was complete. She decided to wait outside of her building, so that when Nick arrived, they could just head right out to Neon Howl straight away.
The car pulled up, it was sleek and surprisingly white. An interesting choice on Bogo’s part. The door opened and out came Nick. He started, “I’m trying to play the role of the gentlemammal boyf–” He stopped in his tracks when he saw her.
Judy felt a blush creep on her cheeks.
Nick whistled. “I know cat calling is problematic, but wow, you look good. All eyes will be on you in the club.”
Judy noticed he was starting to get more direct lately with how he was feeling. Truthfully, she never liked anyone before Nick. Flirting didn’t come easily to her. She decided though that if she was going to play the role of the avid party girl, she was going to need to step up her game. She could start now. “Wow, a compliment. You don’t look so bad yourself, Nicholas.”
“I was dressed by the best,” he said with a wink. He then went to open the car door for her.
“How chivalrous.” Judy said with a flirty smile and stepped into the car.
Nick closed the door after she was seated and got into the driver’s seat. “Ready for Neon Howl?” He asked.
“Ready as I’ll ever be!”
He started the engine and began to drive.
Judy knew they would have to start talking about the suspect and how they would go about luring him in, but she couldn’t help but just look at Nick. It was the first time she ever saw him in a sleeveless shirt. She couldn’t help but notice his toned arms, which she had never even considered before. It was odd to see him presenting hot rather than goofy, but it flattered him. The shirt was white and really brightened the green in his eyes. He looked so different in this outfit than he did in his regular clothes or police uniform. Regardless, he was so handsome.
He hadn’t noticed that she was ogling him. “Crap, I forgot I've got the file in the back seat. Do you mind getting it? Bogo put some updated info in there about our guy.”
“Um, yeah, sure,” she replied, trying her best to act normally.
Nick took one of his paws off of the wheel and gestured behind Judy. “It’s in the back on your side.”
She briefly wondered what it would be like to feel his paw sliding up her leg, but she quickly tried to refocus and get the folder.
Judy opened the folder to see he had been spotted at the Neon Howl among other popular clubs for the past few months.
“According to Bogo, he doesn’t go for mammals alone. He tries to market Taildrift to groups of mammals or couples who look like they’re really in the mood to party. So, we’re really going to convince him we’re there for a good time.”
“Sober, of course,” Judy quickly added.
“We’ll have to get those cursed mocktails. Kill me now.” He groaned.
“At least it’ll appear like we’re drinking. I can have a good time sober. That’s what my whole family does.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s just I’d prefer not to be sober in a place like that. Drunk young mammals everywhere all up on each other. Music blasting and lights flashing in our faces.” Nick scrunched his face to show his displeasure with the situation.
Judy shrugged with a smile. “I think it could be fun. I’m excited.”
“Getting to live out her wild club girl dream while still working. You’re impressive, Fluff.” Nick teased.
“And you get one night of not being a passenger princess.” Judy fired back.
“One day I’ll lose that title. Mark my words.”
“In your dreams, Slick.” Judy retorted. She then looked out the window and drank in the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything was lit up and the sound of music and chatter permeated the air. Everyone was out and about ready to have fun. Legally and illegally.
Judy learned that waiting on line to get into the club was not fun.
“Ugh, is the line always this long?” Judy looked ahead to see a bunch of animals ahead of them.
“Sometimes longer.” Nick seemed unbothered with his paws in his pockets.
“Is it true that some mammals don’t get in?”
“Yeah, but with that outfit. We’re getting in.” Nick affirmed while checking her out.
“So, my outfit will help get you in?" Judy looked smugly at Nick.
“Well, I’m sure my good looks will play a part as well, but in the club world women get preference. And you’ve decided that this handsome fox will escort you.”
“Are you sure I decided that, or did our boss?”
“If we’re gonna do this, we’ve gotta make it believable, Carrots. Now as we get closer to the entrance we need to play this up. Start holding my paw now.”
“Okay,” was the only response she could muster as she grabbed his paw. Judy only held a guy’s paw once before on a very awkward prom date arranged by her parents. It wasn’t anything like this. Back then she was attempting to try to like someone and failed so hard. Now she had to try hard to make it seem like she was just pretending. She couldn’t ruin the friendship. Nick was hard to read. There were times when she really felt like he was interested in her and ready to act on it. Other times, it felt like he knew there was something between them, but didn’t want to ever cross that line.
“Try not to look like a deer in headlights, when we’re holding paws, it should be natural, Fluff.”
Oh, she certainly didn’t mean to offend him. “Wait, I’m sorry. I just got lost in my thoughts.”
Nick leaned towards her, so that they were at eye level. “Lean in close when we talk.”
It gave Judy goosebumps, but she was born for this. She could play this as a part even though it was something she desired deep down.
“Okay, I’m so excited for us to get in.” She put her paw on his chest.
“Now you’ve got it, Carrots,” Nick said with a sense of pride.
They laughed, invaded each other’s personal space, and looked at each other with enough wanting that no one could doubt that they were an item.
Once they were practically at the front of the line, they were faced with two bouncers. Both timber wolves which brought them right back to where they started during the missing mammal case.
“You know I could do a howl right now and screw everything up,” Nick kidded.
“But you won’t,” Judy hissed back as a warning.
“Let’s act quick.” Nick slung his arm around Judy’s waist possessively. Their bodies bumped into one another.
“Two?” The first gruff timber wolf asked while the second one looked them up and down.
“Yup me and my girl. It’s her birthday.” Nick replied in a voice that made Judy hold back a snort.
The timber wolf nodded and allowed them to pass.
In the most obnoxious voice Judy could muster she said, “Aw, honey, I’m so excited to celebrate my birthday.” The term honey coming out of her mouth sounded so foreign.
“Anything for you, babe.” Nick said in the most convincing voice. It reminded her of how he was so easily able to fool her when she first met him. Nick once used “babe” before when they pretended to be a married couple. However, they didn’t show any major PDA then because the situation didn’t call for it. Hearing him call her it now felt different. The energy between them was charged and it felt more real this time.
The club was located on a higher floor of the building they queued in front of. All the mammals that were admitted to the club were crowded into the lobby to catch the elevator.
For a second, Judy found herself ready to break character, but she stopped herself. She wanted to ask if this many animals actually enjoyed packing themselves into such a small space just to go to a club, but the answer was evidently yes.
Once they exited the elevator, neon lights flashed everywhere. Everything was green. The air was moist and warm from the movement of bodies, but everyone looked fearless. Unafraid to just be themselves.
Judy turned to Nick excitedly. She knew he didn’t like clubs. He would only enter them when he had to make a buck during his hustling days, but when she turned to him, he gave her a genuine close-mouthed smile. Her excitement made him happy. It warmed her heart.
They did have a job to do, though, and Judy was going to make sure it got done. It was hard to talk in a low voice over the electropop blasting, “So, apparently our guy hangs out near the bar area to scope out the mammals he thinks will buy from him.”
“I guess we should head over to the bar then, but it still might be too early for him,” Nick responded in a semi-loud voice. They were both trying to be discreet in an entirely too loud environment.
Judy gave him a thumbs up to avoid semi-screaming. They made their way through hoards of mammals to the bar. Nick quite literally pushed apart two early 20s martens with their tongues down each other’s throats, so they could get to the counter. Judy laughed right after he did it, but quickly walked through the new space available for them.
They scoped out the bar which right now was filled with a group of opossums and badgers celebrating a bachelor party. Nick desperately wanted a drink, but it wasn’t possible, not while they were on the clock.
“Doesn’t seem like our guy is here yet, but we do have mocktails,” Judy offered, holding up two glasses.
Nick eyed the glasses with disdain. “I hope it’s at least something tolerable?”
Judy rolled her eyes, “Yours is rootbeer and bitters.” Her drink was a virgin pina koala, her favorite.
Nick nodded and took the glass that she was offering. “I can handle that.”
“Fair enough. Cheers?”
Nick raised his glass.
“To our first official undercover case.” They said in unison and clinked their drinks.
As they were finishing their drinks, Eren arrived. He was making his way to the bar area.
“What should we do now?” Judy tried to say inconspicuously.
Nick held out his paw, “We show him that we’re a couple who likes to have a good time, which means we have to dance.” Nick waggled his eyebrows.
Judy smiled and put her paw in his. “I’ve never seen you so willing to dance,” she teased.
“Well, I usually used to stand in the corner at these places, but when duty calls….” He trailed off as he led the way.
The part of the dance floor directly in Eren’s purview was hot and crowded.
Judy had seen plenty of movies and club dancing wasn’t that different from concert dancing, just way less personal space.
The neon lights were blinding, but provided a vibe that was necessary to let loose. Judy threw her arms up in the air and let herself feel the music. The electronic beat helped her know when to move.
Nick himself moved around, not as much as Judy, but she inched closer and closer to him as the song continued.
“We need more PDA.” Nick put his hands on her waist and pulled her directly in front of him, so that the fronts of their bodies were touching. They couldn’t be closer to one another.
Judy allowed him to manhandle her. It felt good more so than she would have normally liked to admit. She looked into his eyes. Neon green flashed on his muzzle almost matching the color of his eyes.
“I think we should kiss, you know, to make it more believable” Nick whispered and moved his head down towards her. His breath ghosted her own muzzle.
Even with all of the noise and chaos surrounding them, she knew what he was saying. It was what she wanted more than anything.
“Okay,” she breathed against him.
Nick nodded and closed the distance between them and kissed her.
It was different than she had imagined. She would be lying if she said she hadn’t imagined this moment at least a dozen times. His mouth against hers was soft and warm. She needed to look experienced, so she opened her mouth to slip her tongue into his mouth. It was bold and daring.
Nick allowed her to enter his mouth and although he was good at pretending, it did seem like he enjoyed himself, by the small sound he made at the back of his throat when the kiss became open mouthed.
Judy wrapped her arms around his neck to deepen the kiss even further. His hands were planted firmly on her waist. It felt good, well, better than good.
They kissed to the beat of the music and Judy wished every job entailed this. Nick slightly sucked on her bottom lip and Judy suppressed a slight moan. She had to be somewhat professional.
They pulled a part for a brief moment, looking at each other, breathing raggedly, eyes wide. It was clear they were both no longer playing a part. This was real. Without saying another word, they leaned back into one another. They found each other’s lips instantly. It felt as if they were made for this.
The dancing mammals around them didn’t exist. They continued to kiss for another few minutes before realizing themselves.
“Uh, wow, that was…” Judy started.
“Really something.” Nick finished for her.
“The best,” Judy added.
They both turned to see that Eren was eyeing them. Their plan worked.
“Sweetheart, I think it’s time we head to the bar near our suspect,” Nick purred.
“Sounds like an excellent plan, babe.”
They grinned at one another and headed to the bar.
