Chapter Text
There is sharp pain in Nie Mingjue's chest. He can't move because of the level of pain.
"A-Jue? A-Jue! I'll get your medicine."
Lan Xichen, the light in Nie Mingjue's life, has a panicked voice.
"I'm back! I'll be gentle this time. I'm sorry!"
Lan Xichen gently pulls Nie Mingjue up enough so he's able to swallow the medicine.
"I'm sorry…Xichen."
"Don't be sorry! I knew about your heart problems going into our marriage. I will always love and care for you."
Nie Mingjue smiles.
"Yeah. And you need to take some deep breaths before you hyperventilate and pass out."
Lan Xichen takes some deep breaths before burying his face into Nie Mingjue's neck. Nie Mingjue is finally able to hug Lan Xichen back.
"You must love the smell of sweat or something. You always do that after I work out too."
"Unlike what Huaisang says, you have the miracle of sweet smelling sweat."
"Thank…you? Is that a compliment?"
Instead of answering, Lan Xichen gently nips Nie Mingjue's neck.
"Ow! Hey!"
"And my precious A-Jue tastes absolutely delicious."
"Slow down there… did you leave something on the stove?"
"My God! The eggs!!"
Lan Xichen books it out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. Nie Mingjue laughs a bit. He slowly gets out of bed and heads to the kitchen where Lan Xichen has the sink running water over a burnt mess of ash.
"The pan is unsalvageable."
Lan Xichen turns around with tears pulling at the corners of his eyes.
"I ruined another one of your pans. I'm sorry."
"It's alright. Pans are easy to find and replace."
Lan Xichen takes a sigh of relief.
"Still, let me replace it."
"No need. You shouldn't have to be burdened with such things."
"But-"
"You already do so much. Besides, if you want we can go together."
"Alright."
Nie Mingjue takes Lan Xichen's hand."We'll go in the afternoon. How about we watch some tv show you like while I make breakfast?"
"I'll make sure to something we both like."
A gentle kiss later and Lan Xichen is turning on a historical show. One they can enjoy without watching. They have a hard time looking away from each other anyway.
