Back Against The Wall (You've Forced Me Into This, Again)

Summary:

"I could be doing worse," Elphaba says, smirking slightly at the blonde squirming beneath her. "We could be levitating."

"You could be looking at the intricate carvings on the pillars with me," Galinda retorts sharply, squealing slightly as Elphaba encroaches into what's left of her personal space, "and yet, you're busy doing" -- she gestures around aimlessly -- "this instead."

This, of course, is Elphaba's terrible, horrific behavior of pinning her loving girlfriend up against various surfaces at the most impromptu of times.

OR:

Elphaba invades Galinda's personal space as Galinda geeks out about architecture.

Work Text:

"I could be doing worse," Elphaba says, smirking slightly at the blonde squirming beneath her. "We could be levitating."

"You could be looking at the intricate carvings on the pillars with me," Galinda retorts sharply, squealing slightly as Elphaba encroaches into what's left of her personal space, "and yet, you're busy doing" -- she gestures around aimlessly -- "this instead."

This, of course, is Elphaba's terrible, horrific behavior of pinning her loving girlfriend up against various surfaces at the most impromptu of times.

Galinda's currently pressed against an ornately detailed column facing towards the Quad. They're far away enough to not attract attention to themselves -- Shiz is littered with gazebos that serve little to no purpose.

There's history behind it, Galinda was telling her; a hundred or so years ago, a rich Gilkinese alumnus had donated unspeakable amounts of money to be used to build a new atrium connecting the Quad to the dining hall.

"Unfortunately," Galinda had said, "the person who had generously donated the money was a controversial political figure -- something about a sordid affair between him and the current Lord-Mayor of Shiz, a position that no longer exists thanks to said affair, mind you -- so Shiz didn't want to risk putting his name on any of their major buildings.

"Yet," Galinda tugged Elphaba's arm, pointing towards the intricate carvings in the marble, "they couldn't outright refuse the donation, as they couldn't risk losing favor with the Lord-Mayor as he was in charge of providing government funding."

She paused for a moment.

"Disregarding the fact that Shiz had already been classified as a private institution and really shouldn't have been getting any money -- they went ahead and used the money to build gazebos around the campus."

She stared at the column a moment longer before turning to face her girlfriend.

"If it seems like they're spread out higgelty-piggelty, that's because they are," she adds, gesturing to another gazebo about 500 paces away from them.

Elphaba said nothing, but turned back to her girlfriend, smiling softly.

"What?" Galinda asked, taking Elphaba's hand in hers. "I didn't say something that offended you, did I?" She joked.

"No -- it's just nice. To hear you talking like this." Elphaba swallowed, and gestured towards the columns. "I like hearing about your interests. And seeing you ramble," she added, flashing Galinda a toothy grin.

"Elphaba Thropp," Galinda laughed, swatting her girlfriend away. "You scared me for a second! I thought I did something horrifociously wrong."

"Never," Elphaba replied. "You could never."

Galinda shrugged. "I'm not infallible," she said quietly, a thoughtful, morose look gracing her features. "I put you through so much."

Before Elphaba could respond, Galinda had already perked back up, and was pointing excitedly over Elphaba's shoulder.

"Look! There's Nessa and Biq!" Galinda exclaimed, waving vigorously at them.

Laughing, Elphaba turned around just in time to see Boq and her sister turning a corner.

"They're so cute," Galinda gushed. "And look at what a gentleman Biq is being -- pushing Nessa's chair for her!"

"I didn't think he was strong enough to push her," Elphaba admitted, snickering slightly.

Galinda rolled her eyes at Elphaba. "High expectations for someone who can't even pick up their girlfriend."

"Is that a challenge?" Elphaba asked, lips quirking into a small smile.

"It's a fact, not a challenge," Galinda said, solemnly.

"Oh really?" Elphaba said, eyes darkening. "Because I might not be able to pick you up, but I can do this."

Which brings us back to their current situation: Galinda is whining at her girlfriend while trying to escape.

"You're a fiend, a monster," Galinda rebukes, squirming violently beneath her girlfriend. "Absolutely wicked. Absolutely terrible. Absolutely--"

"You done yet?" Elphaba laughs, pressing a kiss to Galinda's cheek.

"Not quite," Galinda pouts, pausing for breath. "But you make it so extremely difficult to stay mad at you.”

"How terrible," Elphaba replied sarcastically. "Truly awful.”

"It is," Galinda agreed, pausing for a moment before adding: "can I please get up now? Pretty please, with cherries on top?"

Faking a dramatic sigh, Elphaba stepped away from her girlfriend, a smile gracing her lips. "Only because you asked so nicely."

Galinda harrumphs in reply, smoothing her dress.

"Now look at what you've done," she scolds lightly, a smile playing on her lips. "My dress is all wrinkled!"

"You could take it off," Elphaba suggests. "When we get back to the dorm."

Galinda gave her a look.

"Not -- what I meant by that," Elphaba stutters, blushing profusely, wringing her hands together. "Though, I'm not against that idea, either --"

Galinda laughs. "You're cute when you're flustered." Holding out her arm, she quirks an eyebrow and asks, "so -- back to the dorm?"

"Back to the dorm," Elphaba agrees, entwining her arm with Galinda's. "Home sweet home."

"And Elphaba?"

"H'm?" Elphaba responds, as they begin to make their way towards their dorm.

"Please don't push me up against our door again.”
