Chapter 1: The Begining

Chapter Text

Something wasn’t exactly right within the bounds of the Skyblock Kingdoms, two people had mysteriously disappeared without message or warning. Every kingdom felt the lack of their presense but didn’t comment on it thinking it was just the void messing with their heads. Yet, Avid and Legundo were missing and no one knew where they were.

Staring off at the endless void below each kingdom, stood Marmalade leaning on the railing of the Doakorway. Unable to bring herself to build or properly interact with others; she spent most of her days since Avid went missing somewhere within the Doak Kingdom staring off wandering aimlessly. Marm wanted to find him so badly but didn’t know where or how to start her search. She had noticed Legundo and Avid were missing around a similar time, of course noticing that Avid was missing way before anyone else with how much time she spent with him and how well she knew him. But once it had been a little she noticed Legundo was also missing and no one else had mentioned it.

She had brought up to everyone that Avid was missing, most of the kingdoms noticed his missing presense due to the fact that there weren't huge pushes for Doak Tech and whatever business adventures he was pushing for Doak. But when she noticed Legundo missing she brought it up to M1g before anyone else; knowing Legundo was part of Jungle Kingdom she figured M1g might know something about Legundo being missing.

“Hey M1g..” Marm softly greeted the other, not wanting to startle him.

“Oh hello Marm, something bring you here today?” There was a subtle startle from M1g not having expected to see her since Avid went missing. Everyone in all the kingdoms knew that Avid being missing for a week was already starting to toll on Marm, her not being exactly the same as her usual self. Knowing that the two were really close and had a history that no one pried into unless the duo gave them information willingly, no one was pushing Marmalade to push herself into talking to others.

“Have you recently seen Legundo? I figured I would check in with you since he is your kingdom partner.” She rubbed her arm while looking at him.

“I actually haven’t seen him in a little while… You don’t think that he is also missing with Avid do you?”

“He might be wherever Avid is, and I worry what that could mean..” Marmalade worried about the only person she was close with more than anything else happening in the world around her; knowing one of their other friends was missing with him made the worry worse for her. When both the two kingdoms didn’t know where their other members were when the issues started to arise.

After talking with each other for a few hours about what they could do in order to find their kingdom partners, the two bid each other farewell. Marmalade waved goodbye to M1g as she left to return back home to the currently empty feeling Doak Kingdom; feeling empty without Avid there sparking up chaos and bothering her in the best ways. Traveling along the Doakorway that was still always in progress, with progress on hold until they found Avid, Marm found herself lost in thought thinking of all the situations Avid could be in and how much danger he could be in currently.

The two had agreed on a plan to work together to find a way through a portal or other means that they would test and work through together to find their missing partners, Marmalade wanting to do it more than M1g but both agreeing they needed to find the two. Doak Kingdom hosted the area for their testing and trials as they worked through the issues, Marm having decided this for when Avid and her eventually using it to try to return back to their true home; that was a thought for later.

Avid awoke inside the small house hidden in the woods like he was used to; why does it feel wrong like this shouldn’t be what he is used to, getting up to get dressed to check on Elle and see what she might need his help with. Sighing softly as he got up and falling into his usual routine, hiding the metal left leg he doesn’t remember how he received it but knows he lost the limb in the same incident that left him with a gaping wound on the side of his neck that still even after years has never closed or healed fully. Cleaning the wound and replacing the bandages after checking how bad it looked in the mirror he headed out of the room to check on Elle.

She had recently returned from a trip out to try to find some being that could provide a cure for his mysterious wound, since it clearly wasn’t a regular infection and they were working tirelessly to find a cure for whatever it was. They had known each other for years, almost every memory of his he could remember she was there with him; his only friend. Coming into his alchemy lab that he had been using to help Elle in her vampire hunting gear and potions, he noticed she wasn’t around quite yet. Avid didn’t mind knowing she was probably out getting something quickly before they went about their day; just like she usually did, but who was she?

When Elle finally entered the alchemy lab Avid immediately knew that something was wrong. The way she was holding her body was different and she seemed like she was barely hanging onto herself mentally. “Elle?” He softly called her name, a soft question with one word if she was okay. She never answered, her eyes having a look of being somewhere else; something darker had taken a slight hue to them just like when the Void was calling to her and she was answering the call. It was then he took full account of Elle’s body, noticing the double puncture wound in her hand, oddly shaped like a vampire bite; it was dripping a little bit of blood, how did he not notice that sooner?

Walking across the room, Elle silently picked up one of the potion bottles in the lab that they had been working with, letting the blood from the bite flow into the bottle to be used as an ingredient to hopefully cure Avid. Corking the bottle once she finished, she turned to face Avid and gave him her usual smile. Nothing seemed wrong at the moment, not yet at least. Avid smiled back, turning to start working on brewing up a potential cure, his back to his partner, his sister. She was so similar to someone else his brain could not conjure up for him, why is it so hard to remember why I have this sense of Deja Vu?

That one moment was an oversight. His first mistake of many.

In the moment his back was turned, Elle lounged for him. He barely had enough time to react and grab the wooden stake Elle forced him to keep nearby. Within a second his entire world changed and fell apart.

There in front of him, smiling softly but melancholically was Elle with a stake in her heart. Colour drained from her eyes with each passing second as static filled Avid’s ears. He had just killed his best friend, his partner, his sister… She was gone now. He was hopelessly alone searching for a cure.

In a panic Avid grabbed her crossbow, the stake from her chest with a few extras, a few of the experimental cure potions and other supplies before running from the house. Running into the woods with no plan or thought process, just fear and guilt. Through the woods not turning back he ran and ran, scared that she was chasing him or her ghost was haunting him.

He ran until his breath gave out and his wound was starting to heavily ache making his breathing harder. Continuing on his journey he walked on for what felt like hours until he found the ruins of what more than likely was a town. Stopping just outside the ruined walls to pick some garlic from nearby; pocketing the useful vegetable for later use, it was good for warding off vampires.

He sighed making his way into the town, hoping for a new life… Could he find a home here when he was even further from his true home and without her?

Legundo claimed to be an ordinary man, with a basic past before becoming the doctor he is now.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality he was a soldier turned on field medic before leaving to be a travelling doctor. Legundo regards his time in the military as a time to not bring up and is trying to make up for the atrocities he caused while under his inscription as a soldier.

Travelling to Oakhurst was in his intentions to do good before his time as a living man was over. This was also brought after watching some of his friends and the younger soldiers die in his own arms after being sent back to the frontlines in inadequate conditions for fighting; basically having been sent to their deathbeds. Specifically the young soldier David, who Legundo had the bad fortune of watching him die in his own arms.

Many a days Legundo wandered from town to town, haunting memories of the past following him as he travelled without companion. Just himself and nature, nothing to stop the memories and the past from creeping in on him.

Legundo had heard tales of Oakhurst and her history, a very tragic one said to be shrouded with disease and famine. These exact tales are what caused him to decide to take upon the trip to the rundown ruins of a town. The hope of helping anyone who was left or anyone who might be in dire need of a doctor. Hoping to do one last good deed before his time was out, Legundo gathered up his things from the hotel he was staying at and took the first train that would get him the closest to Oakhurst as rail travel would allow him to get.

The train ride, although quiet, was spent in constant repetition of his memories and the mantra Legundo was following Do No Harm. One particular memory seemed to stick out to him, a soldier who had been in his care at one point during the war. The soldier in particular if he could remember names was Mig, he had vibrant rosewood coloured hair and for some reason seemed more familiar to Legundo than any of the other soldiers in the war. Why this was Legundo could never tell anyone, but something about a soldier he met once, once in order to repair him up to send him out to die stuck with him more than others. Besides of course the poor young soldier, David, whom he watched die in his own arms.

Once he had reached the station, Legundo gathered his things and started the trek towards the ruins of Oakhurst. The walk towards the ruins a far distance from the train station, seeming to always have been a heavily secluded town in the dense forested area. Keeping an ear out for the sound of the natural wildlife in the area, given it was the time of the year in which the wolves were migrating eastward. The time spent in the military on war fronts having helped him in his survival skills out in the wild, making it so the journey was manageable and he was well fit to arrive at Oakhurst in one piece. Although traveling in the wilderness meant that anytime that night fell Legundo was forced to sleep with his glass eye in and was unable to clean the eye properly for the duration of his journey towards where Oakhurst resides.

Eventually after roughly three and a half days of hiking, Legundo wandered upon worn dirt paths that could be considered roads towards a wooden palisade, in which he assumed resided Oakhurst’s remains. With newfound strength Legundo straightened up and trekked towards the palisade, mentally repeating his mantra. Do no Harm.
