In 1805, Captain James T. Kirk commands HMS Enterprise, a seventy-four-gun ship of the line, hunting a French raider preying on British supply ships along the Portuguese coast. After a fierce engagement, Enterprise limps for home through rising seas, where the struggle to save both ship and captain forces an unlikely alliance — and reveals an unexpected legacy.
